Hubbysluv: @justwise and other gurus here please help me clarify this.
My husband will be my dependant, and he is the one sponsoring me. Will they ask me questions about the money in my account or how i was able to make such money?
Also do i need to include my husband business document or bank statement apart from the total money in my account when submitting his application because i am confuse or just our marriage certificate, chats, pictures etc. You don't need to worry about your husband's bank statement, if asked tell them that your husband is the sponsor |

Luckymama: Yes just wise, you are right and I learnt that on this thread. But we added the sponsor’s personal account as well. We just added the company account to show his source of income, because I was wondering if he just supports me with his personal account won’t they wonder where his money is coming from? As per he does not have paid employment as a business man. Is the money in personal account enough to sponsor you? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by justwise(mod): 6:08am On Jun 04, 2020 |
Luckymama: So I got my GCMS notes today and I have to say I agree with all those who say the GCMS notes help you see the main concern of the VO. The reason for the rejection was a lack of funds which did not make sense to me because I had more then enough funds for my entire program plus upkeep.
Turns out the VO was concerned that we did not supply evidence that my sponsor had control of his company account. Note, we submitted three accounts:
1. Mine in which the sponsor had already paid in my tuition and upkeep.
2. His personal account which was also okay
3. Company account to show his source of income as a self employed person because otherwise we had no evidence of how he earned his living. We also submitted incorporation documents of his company.
How does a self employed person show his source of income without showing his business account? It Is not really about you showing that you have all the money (mistake many are making) it's about where that money is coming from, that money should not come from company's account, it should come from his savings/ personal account. |

piazon: @justwise
Please, I need explicit explanation of the 28 days rule in regards to account statement for UK student visa putting currency instability into consideration.
let say I funded my account yesterday with #5.36M and at yesterday's exchange rate (oanda) at £1 equal to #476 and it was sufficient for my maintance. if tomorrow naira looses value to £1 to #490 and on the day I want to print my statement it went to (£1= #465) . did I meet the requirement as requested by UK embassy? Yes, but to have peace of mind deposit more so as to take care of exchange rate fluctuation. e.g rather than 476 you round it up 490-500. Few people have been refused a visa because of exchange rate fluctuation though i have also read from people who was given a visa despite the fact that their money dropped a bit on the day the bank statement was printedout. |

Capitalbase: Good morning all. @Justwise, please are U suggesting to some of us whose course starts September Or October to defer the admission to January so we can have time to work and raise "Sufficient" funds to cater for our needs? If so, can U please sir, explain this further. Because the way this world is headed and this our "Beautiful" depressing country, I no won go pay money now, dem come beging tell me online matter or do half here go complete am there. Matter just tire me. Make Una help me settle am o!! Thanks Yes. That is if you are coming with little money hoping to work and pay remaining fees and support yourself but if you are financially ok then no problem. If you want to enjoy studying the UK, great experiences and memories that comes with it, don't come financially unprepared Personally i wouldn't take admission from any school offering online lecture, i rather stay in Nigeria and do long distance learning. |

STENON: Yes, I won't get any refund from the previous place of work. According to HMRC the tax paid by the previous employer was removed from the total income tax I am owning for 2019-2020. Assuming my new employer has paid the income tax for me, I should have been eligible for a refund from previous employer but without any debt. Interesting..let me ask you this though..in your payslip are they removing any tax? I mean your current employer |

STENON: Update *** I called HMRC today and told them about the tax letter and it was confirmed to be true. I gave my new employer P45 from my old employer and I think they didn't act well on it. HMRC said I don't need to worry much about it as the mistake was from my new employer so the payment will be spread for 12 months. The annual personal allowance of £12,500 is not taxable, but any amount above that amount is taxable for income tax irrespective of your visa status.
Thanks to everyone for your assistance Thanks for the update, so you will not be getting refund from the previous place of work? |

Ikjosh04: Msc in an engineering course. Tution fee:£20k plus. Discount of £3k plus is very likely to be given. Now looking to raise £6000 to complete the tution fee and also the living expenses for the 1yr program will be taken care of by the money earn while working in uk. You can't make it because you wouldn't have the time, if you are starting Sept you have only about 2 and half months to work 20hrs a wk( if you are able to get a job before Oct) then you have 2-3 weeks Xmas holiday, you will be coming back to start second semester then another 2-3weeks Easter holiday which will be likely occupied by your final project. Another issue here is the coronavirus impact on the economy, job maybe hard to come by. If you can take a loan and come Jan 2021, you will have more time to work to pay back the loan at the end of your studies |

STENON: The best is to pick sense in what Justwise has said. UKVI didn't send him a letter for breach of student visa or anything, he studied, sticked to the rule and finished well. He has been advising people to stick to UKVI rules which is an advantage if we do that. He is living his good life in UK.
If you like work 100 hours per week, remember everything has a record and your future applications shall tell the story.
Peace !!! Please don’t bother, it’s completely waste of time and energy repeating something I have explained many times in this section in the past. |

BouharryArtikou: False. Students pay income tax. Once you earn more than allowable personal income. Any extra shishi is taxed.
You got the refund either because you did not earn above the personal income allowance, or they made a mistake. I strongly believe it’s the former.
Again, students pay income tax. There is NO WAY a student who earns or earned £21,000 per annum not pay tax. NO WAY. You are making unfounded assumptions. You have no idea how much I was earning then to be able to sponsor myself, so stick to facts you know. |

STENON: Thanks. My uni international office is yet to reply to my mail. My employer replied this evening and said "You have been paying income tax accordingly, and that’s a matter that you will have to take up with HMRC with your payslips supporting your position"
I have asked 6 of my friends here too, all said no but just one mentioned that she is paying the income tax. I am waiting for the response back to my mail from my uni before calling the taxman. And the only thing I am considering is that I have actually earned more than the personal allowance limit so I don't know if truly I am to pay or not. A call to taxman will sort things out soon. Thanks alot for your concern. Yes only HMRC will sort it out, even your university will not be able to help. This is not your fault though, someone somewhere made a mistake, when you call them ask them how you can avoid this in future. |

STENON: Thanks alot for the clarification. I don't really know much about this tax of a thing. From the document, I have been taxed before reaching that Personal allowance with the last employer and no refund was made.
Now that I am above the threshold of 1250L taxcode still working 20 hours as it was written on my new employment contract too. The P60 shows zero pound was paid as income tax, and some amount were paid for NI. HMRC letter threw we off balanced as they said they will start the deduction from my salary as from April. I plan to phone the taxman to hear his view and I have also contacted my school international office to know what to do . How did this go? Were you able to get through to them? |

I honestly can't be bothered anymore Pay them no attention and focus on the onces with valuable information. Like I said before $30K is a lot of money if you plan well. Visit first to explore the environment, don’t change your money to Naira at once else the value will diminish, rent a house first and plan your business ideas from there. If it doesn’t work out you can always go back to US if you have a means to do that. |

umarwy: Ogas and Madams I hail oh
I wanted some information and tips regarding buying a home in the UK,
What are the mistakes I should avoid?
Is rent to buy and shared ownership as good as it looks??
Housing association, chain properties etc. Please any information is appreciated
Location: What happens if a job comes and one has to move
My main reason for considering a mortgage is I am tired of paying rent.
Thank you in advance.
@justwise @lagosismyhome @stenon @lexusgs430 @dustydee @et al Do you mean Buy to rent? Share ownership is not bad IF you see a good one..i mean one with a higher ownership share..50% up is good as it helps you staircase easily. Check how many years left on the leasehold, 99yrs up is good else it has little or no resable value . Check the service charge and google council tax band of that post code else you will be in for a shock. Unless expressly permitted by the housing association..you are not allowed to rent out share ownership property until you have 100% ownership but you can resale Register with Help To Buy first if approved then open lifetime isa as Help To Buy is closed now. |

My current employer doesn't pay because of my student visa status when I started work with them and HMRC brought a letter for me that I am owning. i am just confused as I don't know the right approach to solve this. STENON: I am more confused with this. My tax code is 1250L, it was generated when I was working at carehome. But now earning more than that from my teaching job. But its 20 hours and I am on student visa from Nigeria. I checked and Nigeria is also on that list you sent here. Contact HM Revenue & Customs if the rule has changed they will tell you, i understand that as personal allowances goes up it comes with some hidden changes |

LagosismyHome: Ok... thanks for the info . Students or you mean students from Nigeria or countries with double taxation treaty
Did you get your tax back because calculation turned out you were taxed over personal allowance or you got your tax back even on amount over the personal allowance 1. I know nothing about the treaty but i got my money back a Nigerian student. Both..for me to earn enough to pay my fees, rent, bills and feeding i must have earned above personal allowance. |
