Jethrolite: Yes, people can be lazy and I know Canada very well, once you're in Canada you can rest easy and stay away from crime. There are things that can't be shared publicly because Nigerians are masters of abusing favourable systems. Let those who can research do their findings. Very interesting that you said that, we all know that is elephant in the room here is our dubious reputation. Some immigration polices come about so as to stop the abuse of the system and some Nigerians do that as a job |

zoomzu: Hello Good People in the house, Myself, wife and kids got our visas last month, the trip was planned to have my wife and kids birthdays celebrated in the state on vacation but wife got mouth watering wedding cake contract that made us shift the trip. My question is this, I am planning to go alone in few months time as I don't like staying in Nigeria during my leave, last year was in UK for a month but planning to spend 2 months in the state if I go. Hope there won't be any question at POE why I did not come with my family and why I am spending 2 months. Will definitely go with my family next year during school vacation. My POE is JFK. Awaiting your kind advice. God bless. Are you an employer or an employee? |

Jethrolite: I'm very calm right here, we are still turning round and coming to the same point. Op is passing a very critical message across to people especially those who getting a foreign degree is not the primary reason they find themselves in a foreign university but sharing his own experience and the way he is sharing it is like those who are already making a terrible mistake have hope in the future. We both know as we write there are people that are processing admission at various stages, have done visa application and there are some that have gotten visa and waiting to resume. Isn't it better those that have gained admission or applied for visa or even waiting to travel to the UK get a clear story that they are on the wrong path now, cut their losses and see if they can meet up with 2017 winter or spring session in Canada?
We should remember once again that the primary audience for this thread are not rich kids who simply want to study in the UK then return home but people whose intention is to kiss Nigeria and the hard life goodbye until further notice. There is nothing new here, this info has been here before the op started this and guess what? People still apply to come to the UK WITHOUT bothering to read and plan ahead. Last year somebody started this thread https://www.nairaland.com/2378290/5-things-should-considered-before to educate prospective students and the usual comments flooded but at the end nothing much changed. Blame people who are lazy and careless to through their millions away the moment they hear abroad. You talking about Canada? Have you done your research on Canada? Do you know the requirements? Do you know the possibility of getting a PR and then citizenship? |

Though my seat numbers are not there but its still there when I checked their website the way I've selected it when I cliked 'view e tickets'. So I think I will just leave it like that and print the e ticket from their website and take it to the airport. I hope that would be fine. That is absolutely fine, you can check in at the airport as well. |

Ask necessary questions that will be useful to you, dont ask me questions like, where are you now? , How much are you paying as school fees, how beautiful is Estonia, etc. These questions are usually asked by people that has not even applied at all. All answers are on this platform already. I might have upto 15 people wanting to talk to me at the same time on whatsapp. I cant chat with more than 4 people on whatsapp at a time please. And moreover if you have checked in you would have been given a boarding pass (printed)
But if you want to be sure and without doubt, you can always call Emirates CC to inquire more about it and verify everything
Full scholarship is sweet oh.
Which body is sponsoring you? Which school/course?? RF That it possible and you will be given an e-boarding pass which will be scanned at the airport. Few days to your traveling date you will be sent an email to check in online then print your boarding pass or have it on your smartphone. When you get to the airport the airline will scan that and give you another pass that you will go through the security with |

Where was it you saw 7 years ?
The new law is even more strict and the minimum duration could have gone up more by now. That route is effectively closed now, the 20yrs route is for those who have lived here illegally..God help you with that. |

awelekiti: Yea, but you can learn their language in 3 months. It's not difficult if you're serious with it. There are also a lot of universities there that run programmes taught in English. If I was given 2 options...to school either in the uk where I won't be guaranteed job after my programme, even if I stayed forever OR to school in Germany where I'd only spend 3 months of my time learning their language which isn't difficult at all... and allowed to stay forever with good job, even marry one of their beautiful tall girls, I think I'd prefer Germany. Amazingly, their tuition isn't as crazy as that of UK or elsewhere and they will allow you to work while schooling. I had my MBA in Frankfurt and if I had wanted to stay, I'd have done just that. Talk is cheap bro. |

Jethrolite: Please stop confusing interested people with worthless knowledge that seems to make sense at first glance. So you think going to the UK then returning to Nigeria before going to Canada is better than going straight to Canada? Canada does not discriminate in any way. People like you just come online and cause confusion when someone has some real sense to pass across to the public. When you have friends and family who are interested in leaving Nigeria for good, you should advice them to go to UK first to waste their hard earned money then return to Nigeria before applying to go to a country like Canada. It is this type of bad advise 2 of my friends received and went to the UK only to return to Nigeria. One even went as far as doing 2 masters in the UK, where are they today? They are both jobless in Nigeria trying to sort their lives out and just discovering they should have headed to Canada or Australia in the first place.
Again, keep this your advise for private use. Do not confuse people here. I am even surprised Justwise is supporting this your view that can ruin a person's destiny and destroy their family. Do you know some parents go as far as selling land and borrowing heavily just to send their kids abroad only for the kids to make the mistake of going to the UK and eventually being bounced back after their study. Please can you just calm down? You read the wrong meaning into his post and come out smoking. He did not say that one must travel to the UK first, he was just giving an example from his own experiences |

shinarambo1: But then again...a genuine student should research properly before leaving the shores of Nigeria. Its the number one skillset a student should have. No you see they don't do that because they think they can play the system, within 9months you have spent 4millions of your money and have just 6 months to leave the UK then desperate measures set in..sham marriage, credit card fraud, claiming to be gay etc. |
Travel › Re: Before Applying Or Coming To The Uk For Studies: Beware Of This by justwise(mod): 5:08pm On Aug 26, 2016 |
bikat: sham marriage? Who said anything about sham marriage? Cant you fall in love and marry someone genuinely? As for me, I don't encourage the marriage route cos I got to find out that I LOVE THE BODY OF BLACK WOMEN. However, marriage is still an option if you fall in love for a white woman. there is nothing wrong with it.
I will agree with you that there is no need moaning about their immigration policy, nevertheless we can inform our people so that they know what they are getting into. Its just for information sake. Yes sham marriage is what a lot of people encourage here and that is the sort of marriage you get in a 'quicky' for your money. You just find out that you love the body of a black woman? Dude its not only white women that does sham marriage. You don't spend at least 5 million just to come to the UK to look for a wife |

JW214: It is not misleading, I am giving you a first hand information because it happened to my cousin.
We tried all we could to get her a job even after a paid BA certification and training, Masters degree and about 4 years work experience from Naija. Some employers or agencies will not even call you back once they hear you hold a visa expiring in some months even if you tick all the boxes for their job description Why were you trying to apply for job in the UK with student visa after the policy was changed last year? |

JW214: I disagree with you. I have a cousin who studied in Aston University. The visa issued her was from January 2015 until June 30, 2016 and the course end date was May 2016.
As a student, getting a job or employer immediately after study that will sponsor your visa is like almost impossible, the reason is just because the salary required before your employer can sponsor your visa is higher than what most employer will pay a fresh graduate, especially one without a UK experience.
So the only strategy that a student coming here to stay may consider is getting married as soon as he or she lands in the UK. If you are thinking of getting a job that will sponsor your visa within the space of your end of program in the Uni and visa end date..... Well they say miracle happens but this is reality, it is almost 90% impossible. Like i said before..the UK immigration policy is a public knowledge and before you spend your millions to study in the UK think carefully what your opportunities are, don't come and start moaning about how bad the immigration policy is, you were not forced to choose the UK. Hoping to get married and stay back is actually a very shallow minded plan because that doesn't guarantee you a brighter future in the UK. Basically you are entry into life mortgage after the sham marriage
|
Travel › Re: Before Applying Or Coming To The Uk For Studies: Beware Of This by justwise(mod): 4:19pm On Aug 26, 2016 |
JW214: Unlike before, UKBA were generous to issue visa to cover your study period and at least about 3 months(some get up to 8 months depending on your program start time) to stay back to attend your graduation before proceeding to apply for the next available visa category, now the visa they issue will only cover your study period.
Many international students now return to their countries without attending their school elaborate graduation ceremony unlike before.
Aston University for example like many other universities had to organise an award giving ceremony in June so graduands with very short visa can wear the gown and take picture with their certificate and people before returning, some schools will advise you to return to your country to obtain a visit visa to attend your graduation because they can not afford to run multiple award giving ceremony within 1 year.
Little secret, some residents with definite leave to remain are looking for better countries to migrate to..... Go to any IELTS exam centre and see the number of Nigerians taking the exam with the hope of migrating to "may be" another greener pasture. That is misleading info |

bikat: Yes that's true, UK masters are well respected but you will be kicked out as soon as your done so why not go to places that will allow you to stay while also gaining a well respected degree from that country. You are not kicked out as soon as you are done. You have at least 5months to plan your next course of action IF you haven't done that before leaving Nigeria. Only a lazy student will travel to the UK without a plan and get stuck after graduation. Student visa is not work permit and you knew that before leaving Nigeria so its pointless complaining about the UK immigration policy when you had all the opportunities to make an informed decision before investing your millions |
Travel › Re: Before Applying Or Coming To The Uk For Studies: Beware Of This by justwise(mod): 3:12pm On Aug 26, 2016 |
bikat: I am 100% sure that Canadian Federal Express Entry immigration programme will give someone who has a masters from Nigeria, the same score they will give to another person with a UK masters. All they require is a degree that is equivalent to Canadian degree. If you use World Education Services or other company, you will discover that a Nigerian masters is equivalent with a UK masters. I am 100% sure of this. They are not valued the same..that is the point i'm trying to make |
