Politics › Re: Attack At Ogun APC Rally Disrespect To President’s Office – Tinubu by kayjay69(m): 8:53am On Feb 13, 2019 |
But You my dear sir (Tinubu) and the President and Politicians in general (across party lines, I won't spare no one) have continued to harm the general populace through your policies that have been an abysmal failure. It is quite comedic when members of the ruling elite come out with statements such as this. What the hell were you expecting for all your corruption and all your failures. A hug? A kiss? A pat on the back? The painful part is the stones thrown were by people the sitting governor organised. Imagine if all our leaders got stoned like this everywhere they went. They would get the message. It's just unfortunate they were stoned by a section of the crowd and not the whole crowd. It's pathetic that Nigerians don't truly understand the level of havoc these politicians have wrecked and keep wrecking on our collective wellbeing since 1999 till date. If people truly understood how much damage has been and is being done, they would stone all our useless politicians. Stone them into repentance, Stone the evil out of the hearts and maybe cause them to rethink and prioritise Infrastructure, Education and other things than themselves. chieyine: @Naija Politico
An All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu, says the recent attack on the APC rally in Ogun was disrespectful to the office of the Nigerian President.
Tinubu lamented in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media, Mr Tunde Rahman on Tuesday in Lagos, that the attack could have potentially harmed the person of the President. He was reacting to the APC rally in Ogun on Monday where some APC leaders were attacked.
”An incident did actually occur at the Ogun State APC rally, but it is not the one PDP has concocted.
”The true incident that should be reported and condemned is that people who oppose the party and the president tried to infiltrate and disrupt the rally.
”The attack by these operatives is disrespectful of the office of the president and could have potentially harmed the person of the president.
“Such antics have no place in our political discourse. The author of these misdeeds should desist before real harm is done.”
Tinubu said he had no plans of leaving the party as being insinuated by some reports based on a video clip from the Ogun rally.
In the video, Tinubu was alleged to be seen throwing the party’s flag at the presidential rally.
He, however, accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of framing the video clip to mean that he was throwing away the party’s flag.
According to him, he remains ‘Gidigba’ (solid) in the governing party.
” If the issue of the flag has become the hotspot of the PDP campaign, then they are in serious trouble.
“During that portion of the Ogun rally, the National Chairman and others were looking for a party flag.
”I spotted one within my reach. I picked it up and attempted to toss it to the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole so that the Chairman can present it to the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“If you want to fault me for anything in this matter, your critique can only be limited to the accuracy of my toss.
“Any attempt to enlarge the episode beyond this is fiction and mischief writ large, ” he said.
Tinubu said he was committed to the party and had been hard at work for the victory of the APC and all of its candidates in the upcoming elections.
“As the National Leader. It is unthinkable that I will leave the party. Moreover, there is no reason for me to do so.
“I understand the bigger picture. I know what is at stake in this election.
”Either the nation moves forward along the progressive path of the APC or it will be forced to retreat into the ills of the past created by the PDP.
”With the nation’s future hanging in the balance, I will not allow myself to be deterred by petty mischief.
”After the election, I will be there celebrating the APC and this nation’s victory over those who will prevent us our rightful future,” he said.

This man is a US Passport holder. So for all of his hooliganism and thuggery he has a US Passport. The real irony here is on Nigerians not on him. A political thug is wise enough to know that the current crop of leaders we have are hopeless so he's to seek safe haven abroad. He plants all of his children abroad in good schools. Yet he gains his popularity through brazen show of madness and idiots who don't know nothing glorify him and his way of life. This really is the sad part about Nigerians. I dont blame Oluomo or Tinubu, they are who they are they expecting them to change is next to impossible. It is Nigerians i'll constantly heap coals of blame upon. Is it hunger? Is it stupidity? Is it timidity? That we can't call out all our useless so-called leaders. Would he dare to try this in the US? The joke is on all of us NOT on Oluomo and NO the election will not do anything to remedy this. Both parties are same. Either we ALL abstain from voting thereby sending a message to the political class or we cast our ballot with some other candidate that is not mainstream. If not, take it from me, it will continue to be same of same and Nigeria will NOT get any better. No Pastor or God will come to save us, it is only we ourselves that can salvage ourselves. If the mass populace do not force the hands o the elite, you ain't seen nothing yet, it will even be worse. Oluomo is a symptom of the problem, he's not the real problem. Zenithsblog: Mc Oluomo has given an account of what went through his mind immediately he was stabbed at the first APC rally in Lagos. .
MC Oluomo was reportedly stabbed with a poisonous knife that almost took his life, while he was on the Babajide Sanwoolu’s campaign ground by unknown hoodlum, truncating the program and causing tension in the National Union of Road Transport Workers of Nigeria, NURTW, Lagos chapter. MC Oluomo, speaking at his survival thanksgiving at his Ejigbo residence on Thursday, January 31, 2019, expressed his shock by the event and what he did immediately he was stabbed. “I want to give thanks to God for saving my life, because only I, knew what hit me at that moment.
Immediately it happened, I felt light and I started feeling thirsty, just like someone who had been shot and loosing blood. I knew if I had taken any liquid at that time, I would have died.
But what came to my mind was the 7-7 water I got from Mecca. I have seen and experience how Alfas make use of the Holy water and how it works. While I was being rushed to the hospital, all I could do was to request that my people try as much as possible to get me the 7-7 water.
I took the water and became a bit alive after some days. Some other Islamic rites was also carried out immediately and the Imams, Pastors, and Traditionalists rose up to the occasion. It was the third day, that I regain consciousness and felt life within me.”, he narrated.
Oluomo took time to thank all his family members, religious leaders, music and movie artistes and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu particularly for all the supports, prayers and love. He called for calmness in the state and advised the people to look only unto God for all things.
The event was duly attended by A-list personalities from all walks of life. Some of the guests include Imam Muyideen Bello, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Nike Pella, Fausat Balogun, Saoti Arewa, Oyiboyi and many more..

Ambode I am not a fan of because he is one of the symptom of the many issues that we have. However, if he is what he is then Tinubu is clearly the main problem. So Tinubu is Boss because he is leading the people. What an interesting comment. Tinubu doesn't lead anyone, only his corrupt cronies whom he has enriched over the years through unscrupulous means and like it or not this is the main reason why the growth of Lagos and to some extent the growth of the South West has been stifled. I don't criticise Tinubu for his politics, I criticise him for his failed policies. He's been Lord of Lagos for the past 19 years and by and large he's had a hand in SW politics for close to 10 years now, you can clearly call him the political leader of the SW but I ask apart from increased debt on the state level with little real development, what has he got to show for his leadership? It's all talk talk talk with a lot of corner corner like rat dey do, little or no results except if we bow down and kiss the ring, except if he perpetuate his lies of him being the best thing since sliced bread. His brand of politics and leadership has caused irreparable damage to the SW and I'm not if this generation and the next will fully recover from this. What Tinubu and his cohorts have failed to do is see leadership as an opportunity to do something meaningful and advance the cause of his collective people. He has instead advanced his own causes at the detriment of his own people. Investments in Education that has always been a priority of the SW under previous leaders has fallen to the wayside under Tinubu influenced govts. Please tell me how we are ever going to be great when we fail to value and invest in our own? Who will make the region great? Now I can forgive you if you make these comments from the point of view of one who is ignorant however if you are a paid commenter clearly benefiting from the madness that is the current day democracy I can only say posterity will judge you and your kind. etrouble: The big fat black nonentity needs to be shown whom the boss is. He is thinking that because he is the governor, that makes him the boss. But he is wrong, power belongs to the people and can be taken back by the people at any time. The people are the boss and currently Tinubu is leading the people, so Tinubu is the boss. Tomorrow, the people may say they don't want Tinubu's leadership again and take the power from Tinubu and give it to another leader or another set of leaders. But until then, Tinubu the Jagaban is the boss of bosses and the big fat ugly Ambode with his uncultured and untrained wife from a faulty background should respect the boss. |

No sir. A thief is a thief and me personally I have zero sympathy for any Nigerian politician. Everyone you mentioned is a thief and that includes Dino. It's Dino's turn now and that's why we jeer while eating our popcorn. I bet that if it's Tinubu or Sanwo Olu's turn, we would do same. I would gladly do same. It is only people who don't know their left from their right that would feel any form of sympathy toward any Nigerian politician, these are evil men. It's not bad enough that they steal and kill as they wish, they even ensured that the normal channels via which the common man can utilise in becoming something in life is lopsided to their favour. I have no love for these politicians and that includes all of them. I don't want to hear stories about the lesser of two evils. They are all evil. franchasng: Its annoying how they mock Dino Malaye and call him thief, but hail rogues like Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu their next anointed thief in chief of Lagos, they hail Aregbesola, they hail their own thieves, and hail thieves from other tribes loyal to their own armed robbers, but condemn and make mockery of lesser thieves from other tribes and states, isn't it wonderful
When Melaye joined their evil party of terrorists, thieves, robbers, ritualists and killers in 2014, they hailed him as a brave man, but once Dino Malaye changed party, they started mocking him and calling him thief, are these people not wonderful and sophisticated in their covering of corruption and advancing corruption |

It is bro if the 4 geopolitical zones I mentioned can get their act together. But for that to happen will almost be a miracle really. SW and SE see themselves as enemies. NC traditionally has always aligned itself with the core North. Only recently do we have a couple states wanting to go the other way due to insecurity and mass killings. I am from the SW and I want restructuring because I know what it means for my people in the long term. But I am only one man, my voice is overshadowed by the many who are benefiting from the status quo and who choose to play politics on the subject. gidgiddy: Just the North East and North West control almost 40% of the National Assembly. So even if the South West, South East, South South and North Central all came together to seek the restructuring of Nigeria, they will never get the 2/3 majority needed to do so.
Restructuring is simply not possible in Nigeria because the core North does not want it and they have more than enough votes to stop it. |
Politics › Re: Yoruba Prefer Restructuring, Not 2023 Presidency – Afenifere by kayjay69(m): 1:19pm On Jan 04, 2019 |
And brother mind you, restructuring will involve a constitutional amendment. 2/3 of the upper and lower house have to ascent (correct me if I'm wrong constitutional lawyers). Please add up Yoruba, SS and SE members in the National HOA and tell me if that will be possible. Let's even pretend that we achieve this unity of Yoruba, SS and SE political forces you still will need atleast the NC some states (especially those ones that have been victims of Core Northern Oppression) to make this happen. So you see it's really an uphill task given the current political arrangements via parties. I personally would love all Southerners to unite and push for this. Funny thing if you explain to the random guy on the street in the SW what restructuring means, I'm certain he will want it. But we know we don't select our leaders in the real sense of the word. The parties do and the people who influence the parties are the ones that determine the overall outcome. Nigerians don't also like support good candidates in lesser known parties. So it seems we are running a 2 party system which is very bad for our democracy. It is sad bro but I honestly think we collectively being held back by the Northern and Southern Elites. So as it stands, true restructuring is but a dream. wink2015: THE YORUBA SHOULD STOP DILLY DALLYING.

Some Igbos are also. Some Hausas are also. Some Ijaws too. The list is endless. Ass kissing isn't specific to any tribe, please don't make it out to be such. I am Yoruba and I support absolute restructuring of this country, always have and always will as long as I breath. If you want to follow some paid online performers, who come here to post under Yoruba aliases, who are indeed Yoruba but either don't seem to know who their real enemies are or are actually benefiting from the current arrangement, be my guest. Everyone who has some awareness knows that restructuring Nigeria is the way forward for everyone concerned. I fully agree with all Yinka Odumakin raised but there's a slight issue which involves how his group the Afenifere has allowed itself to be used by political forces. I've always felt such groups should be apolitical. But this is Nigeria where everyone sees involvement in Politics as a means to put food in their bellies. But his message is very true, the messenger may just be the problem. wink2015: THE YORUBA SHOULD STOP DILLY DALLYING.

This is how u recognise someone who was born after the year 2000 (No pun intended to guys/gals born in this era with a good taste in music). Taste in music usually crap. Even Wizkid wouldn't be stupid enough to say something like this. Fela was an artiste's artist. He was a complete musician, an innovator, a pioneer, a freedom fighter, a rebel, a human being and to a large extent an African man. He stayed true to his cause and never sold out. Wizkid is good at what he does but he won't be a Fela. No one will ever be a Fela. goldcoinhub: A man who thinks Wizkid is better than Fela, has voiced out his opinion on the popular social media website, Twitter.
According to @mazedamouth he would prefer to listen to the contemporary tune of Wizkid's songs than Fela's whom he believed wasn't good enough and simply over hyped in his time.
And he also wrote that most modern music fans that revere Fela are only riding on the nostalgia his songs created while they were growing up listening to the songs.

My brother, even if Ironsi had executed the coup plotters it still would not have appeased the North at that time. You need to understand that the view of the Northern elite at that time was that the Igbos were power hungry and had succeeded in snatching power. Ironsi pretty much helped them confirm this by consolidating power for himself by forming the unity govt through Decree 34. I think this was his greatest mistake though he had his reasons. I even think this single act was what set us as a country on this path of failure that we are currently on cos through that decree we said bye to the regional system of govt. Not saying that system didn't have it's faults but we all can agree that if we had atleast continued regional form of govt, corruption would be less and accountability more. superlightning: immature people discussing what they know little or nothing about.

Exactly, case in point I registered 3 companies this year but it doesn't translate to employing anyone because I haven't gotten to that level yet, I'm still sourcing for funds. I think whoever posted this story is trying to have us believe there's a link between number of companies registered by CAC and successful companies employing people and making a profit. They are two very separate things. DonFreshmoney: You mean companies that are to be used to launder public funds abroad under the guise of contract awarded to these companies.
We all know the system in Nigeria, register a company that doesn't employ a single individual, but use it to siphon money abroad.
If these companies are really for the purpose, 69,000 companies, if they employ 10 people in NIGERIA, that's 690,000 off unemployment. But we all know their purpose. NONE will ever advertise employment. |

Fools everywhere and you have proven to be one with your commentary but please do not take it as an insult. I also am foolish in things I know not much about. Kudos. I am very Yoruba probably more Yoruba than you will ever be. I am infact half Ekiti, half Ijebu. But unlike you (who either is ignorant of what is really going on or being paid by the same forces that have led us here), I prefer a more holistic solution than who gets to rule who. I do not care if it's a Yoruba man that leads Nigeria, I care if it's a good leader that leads Nigeria on every level. And what determines this is clearly the party system. The parties we have had since the 2nd republic have betrayed all of us into leaning towards ethnicity and religion as the basis of choosing who our leader is. Any reasonable individual knows these two are wrong criteria and have nothing to do with true leadership. Agreed we as a country may not be mature for what I propose but then again Stupidity is the definition of doing the same over and over and expecting a different result. And if the above will not work then my submission is we revert to our regional system of governance where each region is highly autonomous and where the centre is weak with nothing to offer. Better this than to have men who clearly have zero to offer be so-called leaders of a country that is very obvious heading to nowhere fast. deomelo: You people lose all the time because you look at everything based on emotions, sentiments and tribalism instead of strategic alliance and cooperation.
1. The North have to relinquish power after PMB in 2023, this is pretty much set in stone and hopefully return 8 years later after Prof Osinbajo.
2. The North can not retain or refuse to relinquish power because elections decides and for them to retain power via elections, they have to align with other regions in Nigeria since they don't have enough votes in the North to win outright.
3.Based on the above, the question you should be asking is, who are they going to align with? Yoruba or Ibo? We both know the answer to that question because we both know the North won't align with you and the SW will not align with you because you ruin everything and every association with hatred, bitterness and gross tribalism.

They said Benson Idaho was a Gods general. But when he died God misteriousely called his wife so all the material possession stay within range.
That is how oyedepo winners might end up. Within range. So much money will currupt the mind and may take the focus from christ. It's all about him.

Daddy Freeze may be alot of things but he is far from being the antichrist. And his choice of Davido over Wizkid is not relevant to the conversation at hand. My view is the choice of tithing is a personal one. The one that tithes should not rub it in the face of the one that doesn't and vice versa. Different Pastors and Individuals have different ways they choose to interpret the bible, no one has a monopoly over the understanding of its contents. There is so much more we can be as Christians in the world today. There are burning issues that affect our churches and our societies that we can take the opportunity to debate about with fervour. For me, this tithing business is simply not one of it. kenzysmith: The truth be told daddy freeze is an antiChrist someone who will come out to say Davido sings better than Wizkid someone who spends time listening to circular songs u expect a real Christan to take his hypocritical preachings serious . someone who want to implement is god yenosha to us I refuse to be deceived I stand with Jesus |
Travel › Re: Lagos-Ibadan Railway: 2018 No Longer Feasible, Fixes New Date For Completion by kayjay69(m): 1:06pm On Dec 06, 2018 |
Sad really, this project is said to be worth $1.5bn. No need to talk about the overall quality cos that's another debate in itself . In reality, this project can't be worth more than $200-300m. Drawing from my generous prior stated figure, that same amount will build 5 similar projects and quicken the pace of development across the country. It will also sooner lessen the burden on our already jampacked highways. But then here we are, our collective intelligence has been beaten to the point where a section of Nigerians will tell me to shut up and be grateful they even did this one. Some will think I am supporting the opposition and paid to do so. Others don't simply care. The truth is the truth regardless of who is in power. We must strive to ask the right questions and hold our leaders accountable at the ballot. We must never settle for less, only a slave thinks this way. I really want and hopes Nigeria succeeds. But with the slow pace of development in the face of an exploding young population, ignorance on the part of the general populace coupled with high levels of corruption at all levels (within and without govt) sincerely I fear the worst. We are not where we should be, we are still very far away. AutoReportNG: Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, has directed the Chinese Civil Engineering Company (CCECC), the contractors handling the Lagos-Ibadan railway, to ensure that the train becomes operational before February 2019.
Amaechi said this on Tuesday during the monthly inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan rail project in Papalanto, Ogun state.
He said the contractors must ensure that the tracks and bridges were completed and the train must make transport sense.
“There must be train on the tracks before February. It doesn’t matter when, but there must be a train on the track that makes transport sense,” the minister said.
“What I mean by transport sense is that it must be able to carry passengers from Abeokuta if not up-to Ibadan, we have agreed that everybody must work towards it.
“The next inspection is on Dec. 18 and that is two weeks from now.
“Before we used to have it once in a month but now it will be twice in a month to ensure that, that is achieved.
“So, we will be back here to ensure that what we have agreed to today will be implemented. The work is progressing rapidly, the weather is no longer an issue, the elements were an issue before but now it is no longer an issue.
“You should know that on the 18th, we would have started campaign, the president has emphasised that we must build infrastructure.”
He said out of 10 bridges, only two was uncompleted, adding that before the next inspection on December 18, one must be completed.
Amaechi said his role as director-general of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign won’t affect his work.
He said the president was determined to build infrastructure, stating that the monthly inspection would take place every two weeks to ensure progress on the project.

I wish I could give you a million likes. Nigerians are the architects of their own misfortune. We (most of us) through our actions (implicit or explicit) clearly deserve the kind of leadership we are getting. theoldpretender: Yes, we know APC has failed...yet you guys want us to choose a guy who until recently was part of the same APC, helped them into power, and supported them until they would not let him take their presidential ticket.
You also want us to return to a party which is, let's not lie, partly responsible for the problems we are facing today...and which did nothing to sort out many of these problems in 16 years.
When we ask you guys to vote someone new...a Moghalu,a Sowore, even a Hashim, or a YY Sani...you guys will sit down and tell us that they have no support...and then go and support the same old same old looters.
Don't come complaining when PDP messes up after they take over. Same goes for them APC supporters. You guys are not interested in making Nigeria better. You just want to chop money.....and chop money. |

After doing a little research of my own I can confidently confirm that ISI is a private school and the parent who started this uproar has a Son NOT A DAUGHTER enrolled in that school. So you see why my initial reaction was warranted, this has little to do with Hijab and more to do with stampeding one view over another. Two wrongs never have made a right. kayjay69: I can't refute it, you are right ISI is a Public school. But i want to ask and I don't mean anything insultingly, do u know the essence of a uniform? I think it is to ensure that everyone wears the same thing regardless of ethnic and/or religious persuasion. If you guys win your fight to allow Hijab, I believe it won't stop there and you know exactly what I am talking about. Personally, I don't consider hijab wearing to be offensive but the ripple effect of what others choose to do may well bring that school grinding to a halt. What if others choose to don their various religious regalia in the name of equality, decency and moral whatever, won't we all laugh it off as a school turning into a circus? Like I said, there are bigger issues that I'd have loved these parents to address but it seems you are hellbent on Hijab wearing as a means to furthering your cause. More power to you guys. |

Bro God bless you for these insightful comments. If you look at how they have structured the scholarship so far, in my opinion it should be skewed towards persons with a professional background and interest than persons with academic interests. This is not to piss on the parade of all my academically inclined brothers but I think it's kind of confusing. Some of the schools they picked in Germany, those University of Applied Sciences they are not research based institutions. So why ask and allocate points for research work only for someone to end up in a Uni where it's not even needed. I think this category should be for people who wanna do research based Msc and for others who wanna do Professional Msc they can look at work experience and professional membership. bb12008: I wondered why the interviews for F/G/C scholarships did not take into consideration of membership of professional bodies which is one of their advertised selection criteria , rather they focused on publications and awards . Though, I don't know if their targets are research-oriented candidates or professional masters that would be useful in Industries. How many MSc candidates would have publications, even those in academics do not have . They ought to use aptitude test (to regularize academic proficiency),SOP, Award, Publication, Professional certificate, Interview to test candidates intelligence . Professional membership might not be necessary if the focus is research postgraduate studies, otherwise, it ought to be used to fulfill PTDF mandate of training professionals for oil & gas. This is an observation. |

I don't have a publication, can I use a training sponsorship I got in the past? (After a vigorous screening process, I was among 14 Nigerians selected to be sponsored for a training in Europe) |

But are we going to blame them forever. Is it not time we woke up as a people. I agree that Restructuring won't be all sweet in the short term but believe you me it is the best solution for this country in the long term. Nothing good comes easy. In the immediate aftermath of restructuring, the regions controlling the oil resources will have more money at hand and will have to grapple with things such as high corruption levels (corruption and the oil and gas industry go hand in hand, check every country worldwide), however it is the regions that invest in Human Capital; World class learning institutions, infrastructure, healthcare and so on, those are th regions that will reap the rewards in the not too distant future. If the oil controlling regions do this, great but if they let themselves be deceived by the myopia that comes with oil then it will be the same story. Overall restructuring is a good thing and should be encouraged by the common man on the streets from Maiduguri to Calabar. The only people afraid of restructuring are the ill informed few and people who are benefiting from the rotten status quo. servercodes001: No!!!!!
1) states like bayelsa that receive over 800% more grant than most populous kano have NOTHING to of development, why? The leaders are stealing the money 2)enormous corruption and looting 3)excessive tribalism and nepotism 4)uneven development across the country 5)poor leadership in each state 6)long period of time before states get their acts together 7)most states have NOTHING to depend on 8. )no federal grant means states like jigawa, nasarawa, kwara etc cannot afford to pay their civil servants 9)it takes decades to build an economy which means all the states must go back to the 19th century 10) there will be war and chaos 11) with the current living hardship no state can bear economic building 12) states controlling their resources means enormous theft, all the thieves in each state will have access to state treasury and they'll surely empty

It is also unfortunate that Kwara is classified as Northern/Middle belt. I believe with time these things will be corrected. If you ask me sir, I'd say that is what one Nigeria has gotten us and Yorubas should actually be at the forefront of demanding if not an exit them atleast some kind of renegotiation of terms. But the likes of Tinubu and co aren't concerned about this. They are more preoccupied with amassing wealth for their 10 generations to come. In some ways, that is why I am somewhat sympathetic to the biafran struggle even though I feel opportunists have grabbed it for their own selfish end. But if the SE/SS block were to ever realise this, it would force the SW out of its slumber. I don't mean the ruling class, I mean the common man on the streets. It is also sad that we don't have any real figure to rally around in the SW. NO ONE has the interest of the people at heart. We ought to be pulling ourselves out of poverty and making a case for the black race across the world instead we are simply diminishing ourselves, reducing our collective potential, over what? Bragging rights, money? Not one of our leaders seems to even be interested in being a true immortal, doing things that can never be forgotten, touching lives. It is really sad but this is another discussion entirely, forgive me for digressing. kayjay69: Sir, you have a case about the Pentecostal faith but it could be a coincidence. I think all of the uproar we see and feel about religion is mainly because of our politics. Our politics and it's principal actors have resorted to any means to ensure they win. They won't lose sleep over inciting one group against the other. For example, the outgoing Gov of Osun State Ogbeni Rauf during his campaign for 2nd term was on record to have said that in a certain muslim dominated town, they should not vote for Omisore cos he would Christianise them even though we know Omisore is only a paper based Christian Ofcourse it goes both ways, Christian candidates will say same about muslim opponents too. We abandon the real issue and go after sentiment. One can sort of link this ISI issue to Osun State when Ogbeni Aregbe came into power. When a Muslim Governor uses govt power to enforce certain rules seen to be all about Muslims, whether right or wrong, the perception (from the Christian viewpoint) is that he was trying to turn those schools into a Muslim leaning school. I disagreed with his approach and I also disagreed with some of the things CAN said. The problem with these kind of things is that they set a precedence for worse things to come. Govt shouldn't be seen as tacitly backing anyone religion over another, Govt should ensure there's fair play among all religions even in states where one religion has an overwhelming majority. Public schools and places of work should be as secular as possible. Prayers shouldn't be said at all (I could say Pray in Christian and Islamic faith but then again who knows if we will have a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Jew and a traditionalist among the students). Students can pray before coming to school, God answers all prayers we need not over petition him. What we should strive for is a society that projects fairness in all cos I really fear Nigeria as a whole has been built upon too much injustice. I honestly couldn't agree more about organised religion, it is sad to admit that it has done more to separate than to unite us. But we must aim to rise above all these. Again sir, these are my views. Hijab use is harmless I agree but I fear the precedence this may set. I don't fear it as a Christian, I fear it more as a concerned citizen who simply wishes we would focus our energies in uplifting ourselves as a people. My viewpoint based on my upbringing has always been that, I am first Yoruba first before i am christian. I continue to hold onto this. Thank you for your insights, I appreciate your time and even though it took a while I now understand your viewpoint better than initially. |

You wrote completely different from your fellow christian counterparts which gives me hope that one day Nigeria will be stripped of religion(oh yes, religion is a disaster).
I don't know your age but in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s Nigerians weren't divided alongside religious line. Heck even in 1992 election, Muslim Muslim ticket won the presidentail election before it was cancelled. God help you project a Muslim Muslim ticket now if bigoted people won't scream about Islamization agenda. Nigerians in schools care less about what song was sang or what not, they sang all the way. During Christmas and Easter, Muslims feasted with their Christians friends and Christians feasted with the Muslims friends during Sallah and Eid. All these happened when Pentecoatlism wasn't in existence or perhaps just very little presence.
All these have changed since every steet has several number of Pentecoatal churches each with his doctrine and most of their doctrines are selfish ones. They hate Catholic, Anglican, CCC, CAC, C&S, Islam and even their fellow Pentecoastal churches. Have you thought about this at all? Have you asked yourself what changed when you were young living among your Muslim friends partying and always expecting holidays like tomorrow to come forth so you can party hard but suddenly you pastor tells you they are bad peole and you believed him then you began preaching your own hate speeches.
Did you know Kwara is now classified as a North central/Middle beltan state? |

Sincerely I am not aware that Muslim students are made to sing Christian songs in some of these public schools and I condemn it. No one student should be made to do that. But that doesn't justify what is happening in ISI. The two are wrong and need to be addressed. I am a Christian but I have several relatives who are Muslims and I hail from the SW part of Nigeria. You are very correct to say that SWesterners despite our various religious persuasion, by and large live in harmony. But I tell you with facts that we have our hidden differences, hidden discrimination on the basis on religion. Are you aware that in certain Muslim dominated cities such as Ilorin (though not all but some parts) I cannot purchase land because I am a Christian? I'll assume it is similar for heavily Christian populated areas too. Both are not right yet both are happening and we pretend that we are ONE as Yorubas. Goto some cities such as Iwo and Ede and identify publicly as Christian, see how you will be treated. My point is despite what we choose to say we are divided in the SW along religious lines, the cracks are there. Maybe not divided enough to kill one another and God forbid that will ever happen cos I love my people but divided enough to screw ourselves over. This ISI thing just shows how divided we are. And I'll maintain that Hijab wearing is a non-issue. We can talk about forcing students to sing Christian songs, that is wrong. We can talk about harressment based on religious affinity, that is also wrong. But this is a non-issue. And yes I attend a Pentecostal church but I don't agree that they are the cause of the above stated. They may be aggressive in the way they push their agenda sometimes but please take note they have never forced any one to do anything. And I am astute enough to know that my loyalty lies with my people first then my religion but when we choose to push our individual agendas u can imagine what then happens. And believe me sir, I am a very moderate Christian. I believe in fairness but I also believe that we as a people ought to let go of minor things and focus on major ones. We should choose our battles wisely else we end up isolating our true friends. Imagine if these parents were to use this protest to champion better welfare for teachers, improved learning conditions for all and what have you. That would be a real issue. You know why? This if attained in the slightest, may well set us (the Yoruba tribe, Nigerians and the black race) on the course for some type of greatness. But Hijab wearing, while I understand maybe important to some, is not a real issue and that's my view. ollah2: Has any govenrment school been addressed on the bolded? Do you see the Muslims complaining about it? Infant most muslims learnt how to sing christian songs based on this and it's fine. Hijab has been worn in these schools before you and i came to this world but it's suddenly a problem.
Have you asked yourself, how Muslims have received going to work on Fridays when Sundays are free? Are you even concerned that Muslims are made to pray in Christian ways in Government schools? It's not an issue with you since it suits your narrative but when it doesn't then you begin screaming ontop of your lungs.
Speaking of tolerance, you should look in the mirror my friend. You can accept half of what the Muslims have accepted and still accept in a volatile nation like Nigeria. Lastly, for donkey years all these issues never came to birth because generally south-westerners have mixed religions and lived happily until the birth and rising nature of Pentecostal churches and i can swear with my balls, you attend one.
CCC, C&S, Catholic, Anglican et al in South West would hard preach hate speech and they have been with us for god knows how long but all these changed when Pentecostalism arrived South West.
Shalom!! |
