Christianity EtcRe: Must A Good Christian Attend Church? by kimba(m): 11:22pm On May 15, 2006
@lunafish
I'm a theist because I believe in God.
I'm also a humanist. (Google it people-we all are)
Call me a Humanist believer.
I pray but do not do any other form of worship such as churchgoing.

I find that my God gives me strength, comfort and the motivation to go on- I feel these things without being in church.
I try to live my life being who I am trying to do right-I'm no angel but I have good intentions.
I am not judgemental and try to understand others.
These happen to be quite Christian values-therefore
If one is living a positive lifestyle with a relationship wth God, is church really necessary?
What is your definition of "good Christian". "Good Christian in Gods sight or by mans perspective?
All the Above is what the God calls W+O+R+K+S
You havent started with the F+A+I+T+H part!!
NOTE: Church-going is not FAITH, but it will help you build-up-your-FAITH!!

@debsy
at a point in my life i hated church because all the bad niggers and sistas were in church and i ask myself why. can any body tell me y?
Are the bad-nigga brothers and the sistas on the street less than those in Church? Its not everyone in University that really wants to study. Many are there for fun, play, or total confusion. But should they distract you from getting your own certificate. If they do, then you become like them. If you dont allow them to distract you, you become what they are not.

@dominobaby
However, being a churchgoer begins to become just a religious activity when there is no real personal relationship with God.
Before, this wasnt true. Now its the order of the day. Its all part of the Moral Decadence of this age. May God Help us!! Amen.

@lunafish
What if the pastors engage in corrupt activity?
What if the congregation is full of hypocrites?
How can one tell God's people from the demonic wolves in sheeps clothing?
The Bible will tell you how to spot them out in a crowd.

@Jagunlabi
That makes two of us,lunafish.I am also a theist because i have rejected churchgoing.Jesus never went to any church,afterall.
Which Jesus are you talking about?
You said on NL that you dont believe in Him.
Christianity EtcRe: If One Kill Himself To Avoid Sin by kimba(m): 11:04pm On May 15, 2006
@ogbonnaya
if in a case where one is trying to avoid sin killed himself. for instance you are avoiding a rape and stab yourself will god consider the person.
You mean for example: a man can be in the actual/physical process of raping a woman, and he wont be able to stop himself from committing the crime, if he really wants to?

If truly, he cant control himself anymore, and he cant desist from a bastardly act, then I dont see him having the guts to stab himself.

Murder is Murder 360 degrees!!
Christianity EtcRe: Deeper Life Bible Church: Why Avoid Us? by kimba(m): 10:50pm On May 15, 2006
* Before this thread results to: I Bash your Church and you bash Mine,
* before this thread results to: the war between the different facets of "Christianity", in a world where everybody is "born-again" and some are "born-against",
* before we Christians allow those who don't believe in God(who would cook up stories here and there about what never happened, just to discredit Jesus) begin to point a finger at us, a similar topic about the Deeper Life Bible Church, dealing with Youths was discussed here FYI: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-9651.0.html

@Mamaput: as you said
But you want to know why  people open their eyes wide.
I Too will not  want to have anything to do with any faith that controls their people.
It seems that people of  these "Funny faiths fear their fellow members more than they fear God.
I don't loke Faiths were the talk is only of God will punish you if you  Bla bla, bla.
What happened to God loves you.
I do not suppose you are a Christian, madam, and if you say you are, yet
I Too will not  want to have anything to do with any faith that controls their people.
I would ask you what you understand by Christianity if Christ is not in control of your life?

True madam, what happened to God Loves you? The DLBC doesnt preach "God will punish you blah, blah blah", at least ive heard a lot of Pastor Kumuyi's messages. The Church doesnt condemn, its only that a lot of people in Nigeria and around the world where the Church has branches arent so comfortable with the "Whole truth of the Bible".  Its Natural as a human to reject the hard way. To put it right, the Church dishes out the cold truth of the word of God, leaving no stone unturned, until one is forced to personally make a decision for Jesus or not.
Note: Salvation from sin is a Personal decision. The truth is always a bitter pill to swallow, but the difficulty in swallowing the bitter truth pill doesnt change the fact that its the truth.

Nothing happened to God Loves you, but truth is that the Bible is not all about God Loves you. God Loves you is the Truth, and He made Salvation to be Free for man, but Salvation is not Cheap. Salvation is Free, but its not Cheap. God had to close His eyes, turn his back on His only Son Jesus who carried the weight of Humanity's sins, He had to give His own life for Salvation just to make Free for us.

Example: My dad BOUGHT me a car on my 18th b-day. It was Free for me, but my dad paid for it. Now, if I begin to use the car to deal drugs, run from cops and killing people, I deserve to be punished, because I've made mockery of his gree-gift, and my dad definitely would get angry. He would be most pleased, seeing me daily using that car responsibly.

That is why:
God judgeth the righteous, and GOD is angry with the wicked every day." (Psalm 7:11, KJV)
One thing that bothers me, especially when people talk of the Deeper Life, for example is for example someone saying: "I know they preach the truth, but I can't just accept it". Now what could be worse than "I know Jesus is the way, but I can't follow",  "I know the Bible is true, but I can't obey", Mind you, its not the church not the pastor, but the word of God.

As I was saying earlier on, heres what ive come to believe:

its not the Church,
its not the Pastor,
Its You, your Bible and God,
its Me, my Bible and God.

Basic facts: regardless of whether this life labels one as rich/poor, literate/illiterate, religious/not, believes in Jesus/not, whatever position one might place himself/herself, whatever decision you might decide to take, or wherever the world, fate or circumstance places you in life, there are two basic things:
1) Every one will die someday,
2) What Next

A lot of people don't have issues with (1). Even scientists don't have issues with the fact that every man will one day die.
But with (2), a lot of people have mean issues, especially when they know they don't know where they are ending up.

God is Real, Satan is Real, Heaven is Real, Hell is Real. Your acceptance into Heaven or rejection and damnation into Hell will not be on the basis of a Church or Pastor, or someone here or there, it will be basically: What you did with Christs death on Calvary, what you did with the Bible.

There will be no more room for excuses:
"I was not told",
"I didnt like that Pastor",
"I didnt like his Church",
"I didnt accept that passage in the Bible, because the Pastor didnt teach it",

even all these Pastors will stand before God themselves, and they wont be defending anyone. The responsibility lies on everyman, regardless of what any Pastor/Church/denomination, preaches or doesnt preach:

JOHN. 5.39. "Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of me.

At the end of time, Twill be basically you and the Word of God: did you obey the Word of God?

To search the scriptures and to get its full understanding, you will need to free your mind from everything you have heard, seen or even come across. The Truth: God Speaks, but many don't have listening ears.

and this Women bending down to Pee stuff, ive seen women standing up to Pee o, when in was in Nija, saw fully clad women, just hike up their gowns/skirts(just enough to still cover their asses), just by the side of the road and start peeing.

The funny thing is that the pee doesnt shoot out straight horizontally like men can make theirs to, the womens own is like 240 degrees(counting from zero degree horizontal) or like 30degrees downward.

and people will be passing behind them as if nothing is happening.

PoliticsRe: Write A Letter To President Obasanjo On The Following Issues by kimba(m): 9:52am On May 14, 2006
@phoneman
Guys I appreciate your input!!!
I combed the Internet all day and cannot find an address for the President. I need your help guys. I will be calling the Nigerian Embassy in Atlanta  first thing monday morning, maybye they can help.
You are looking for Obasanjos email address? he doesnt know how to check his email. If you were to write a personal letter to George Bush, no matter how stupid with his name/President of the U.S.A spelt out in the "To" section, I know he will get to read it. You know why, because whoever tries to hide such a letter from him, if caught will go to jail and do quality time. Everybody working in the WhiteHouse is "detailed" on someone else, so its like a chain where everyone is sniffing on another's "maybe excesses".

In Nigeria, its not the same. The letter will not even get to Asokoro in the first place, once they see where/from whom its coming from. Even if it gets there, it will still be filtered out one way or the other.

If you try going through an embassy, the Ambassador of the country you are coming from can only pass the letter down to the Ministry of F.A in Nigeria, and when a letter gets to any "Ministry" in Nigeria, except you are some top-shot in Planet Earth, your letter will continue to "Minister" from table to table, from office to office, until it gets to the shredding machine.

Seun you are right it is talking I didnt mean to sound so judgemental.
All my life I have complained about Nigeria and done nothing this is a chance to do something. My goal is not to criticize anyone especially not the cabinet members,  but to draw the presidents attentions to the number of concerned citizens, that are passionate about Nigeria and desperately want change. My letter will be polite and concise. I will let  him know my concerns about the fear Nigerians have for law enforcement and  how oppresive they have become.

This is the year I will stop talking and start doing.

"when you are ready to die for what you believe, no one can stop you!"
Yes, please im right behind you. If you want to get close to Obasanjo, forget about letter writing, get close to those people that are close to him: family members, inner circle peeps, his friends, advisers. Thats the only way.
You can also put up a website and write all you want there, hoping that someone day, someone might see it, tell somebody else, and so on and so forth, until someone decides to print out what you have written and tell OBJ about it. But by then, things would have moved forward that what you had written might be labelled "Past tense".

Another thing you can do is if you know people in top-shot Newspaper companies, who are interested in you, and who would be ready to take the political-heat(for publishing your articles), when it starts coming out. You know in Nija, usually everybody takes care of his own house first. get myt drift?

@Chinani

I have dealt with the Nigerian Embassy in Atlanta. Since I have nothing good to say about them I will say nothing
What happened at our embassy at Atlanta. I guess they pissed you off. you needed something from them and they told you to present some hard-to-get docus? too bad!!!

see, if you need anything from Nigerian Embassy's abroad, you better know how/have someone to pull the strings from the inside(home right in Nigeria), then and then only those peeps in the Nigeria embassies will listen to you. They have 1,2,3 instructions too.

Abeg, make u na leave momsie Rhema alone o.

Shes the one and only true wife of Obasanjo, thank you@orikinla, and all she has said is the truth.

Yes, OBJ has other wifes and many children. He has them wives: Yoruba, Ibo, Hausa, Fulani, Carribean, Ghanian, American, Liberian and Malaysian. Forget the details. Years from now, when his kids/grandkids will be jettissoning into Nigerian politics, you will see them.

Details of my info above are only available to those of us in the inner circle(sorry, I cant enumerate). We know that he doesnt want the third term, but "too many advisers" are making him to believe that he can do it, which will only bring his ruin.

I pray God will give him the wisdom to say NO!!!

FamilyRe: Should Every Property Owned By A Couple Be In The Husband's Name? by kimba(m): 10:33am On May 13, 2006
@chinani
Methinks, ladies need y'all to do a background check to make sure the family members of your hubbies don't have business tendencies.

Seriously, but all the same, i think it depends on the amount of love between the couple. In the past, "I do" was "I do". Now, "I do" has become "I do,, if", and thats where the problem is.

In fact, in case of property ownership, usually, there is 1-owner's name penned down, and then first/2nd-of-kins statement details. I believe its wrong for a married-man to put down the name of his own brother/sister(elder/junior) as a next-of-kin if he has a wife. Its absolutely wrong.

If he states that someone else is his next-of-kin, then I rule out there is a problem in that marriage. Let them work on that marriage first before property.

My mother is the #1 next of kin to my dad, and not even his brothers/sisters can argue about that. In fact, my dad cant even think about such an idea in the first place. Thats how much i know he loves my mom.

Period.

RomanceRe: Ladies No Man Will Respect You by kimba(m): 7:27pm On May 12, 2006
@me,myself
by the way i wont pretend to be some goody-2-shoes because i aint.
but basically, i think what really determines how you are treated is really your opinion of yourself, if u respect yourself, u'll definitely act it but if u don't, well u obvously wont act it and u'll wont be respected!
Yes, i agree, life is not about becoming someone else. In fact, anyone caught in such a web has another problem altogether. Ok, Agreed.

On the other hand, what kind of "opinion" would anyone have to make him/her dress up, exposing himself/herself in public glare as far as dressing is concerned, i mean what name would you give such an "opinion". I also believe education "should" play a major role in influencing ones physical appearance.

I should dress up in such a way that people will know i came out from a good family; that i have something upstairs; that im responsible, personally and society-wise; that im not a social butterfly, as in i must create good impressions about myself, thats it, if i remember the saying right, "a fool that keeps silent will be thought of as wise, on the other hand, a loud-mouthed genuis will be thought of as a fool".

Now it doesnt matter if one is really a genius, if the society gives me a label as a fool, it will take double trouble to redeem myself.

Right, if a lady covers herself with a blanket in public to the point she can't even see where shes going, that doesnt mean she has an excellent opinion of herself. What im stressing is a balance, and each of us can tell where the balance is,  Even if you can't say where the balance should be, the society(glares of people, reactions, comments, suggestions, gossips etc) will tell a lady that she has gone overboard. On the other hand, because no one might comment might not necessarily mean one has been accepted, it might mean peeps have disrespected such but they can't say it out, as in one has lost his/her regard in front of people and he/she doesnt even know it, now thats worse.

anyway, and whichever way, I believe in decency. Whatever one might wear, it must be decent and that includes covering what is supposed to be covered.
