Christianity EtcRe: Faithful Followers Of Christ Should Stop Religious Debates by lafile(m): 9:44am On Jan 30, 2007
My view is based on this verse
Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Every statement posted on this forum is read by lots of people, many of them not regular posters. some of these people have little idea what the truth is. The information they recieve from this forum therefore goes a long way to forming the foundations of their belief systems. An example might be a church goer who doesnt read the bible. He will not be able to pick out the lies in a post by someone like Babs787 or that kinky reverend. more so there are so many muslims reading who have swallowed the koran and the interpretations of the imams, who will never know the truth unless someone points it out. They will never know that what their imams say about the bible are lies unless someone points it out.

When anybody replies a topic like '60 Questions for the christians' and '101 Contradictions in the bible', the person is not just answering the original poster, but is actually declaring the truth for all to see.

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher.

However i agre that as Christians, to be trully Christlike, we should not stoop so low as to trade insults with unbelievers.

Somebody told me once that if u arrange the suras of the koran chronologically, you will notice a difference between the person speaking at the beginning and the one at the end. And that all the violence, hatred and sexual perversion only came in at later parts. How true?

i really like you response to LuckyCo. God Bless You.

I have a question for you

Are familiar spirits just that (i.e evil spirits, demons that disguise as dead people) or actually the spirit of the dead people set loose on the earth? i believe they are just spirits.
Christianity EtcRe: Pre-Marital Sex Is Not Fornication by lafile(m): 4:56pm On Jan 17, 2007
@ Grouppoint
You said "I believe that if two people are living together and committed, then they are joined together. If they be Christians, then they should invite God into their union. That is marriage. You don’t need Parents or Court"
Really? Did you read the story in Gen 24? did you read verse 49?

I agree that  the consumation is when "2 flesh become 1" but i dont think that is the only thing required.

According to TV01

when does marriage start?Marriage commences upon consumation => the physical fulfilment of the "one flesh" union
when can i divorce? Kill him  (and then repent, leaving you free to re-marry!)
repent, leaving you free to re-marry!)

wow! when you meet a christian single who has had sex with his/her ex will you tell him/her that they cannot marry because they had already become one flesh with someone else?

Christianity EtcRe: Pre-Marital Sex Is Not Fornication by lafile(m): 9:31am On Jan 16, 2007

Are you actually suggesting that as long as we confess our commitment to each other then we can have sex? even when nobody recognises us as married?
then what did paul mean here?
1Cor 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband
1 Cor7:9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn

In other words, Mr.X can have sex with his girlfriend of 3 years and then when he emigrates to the UK and she cant get a visa for 2 years later, get a new girlfriend and be commited to her allover again.
rubbish.

its not the ceremony. its the public taking of vows before higher authorities (God, the courts, your parents).
Christianity EtcRe: Christians: Does God's Word Allow Divorce or Not? by lafile(m): 9:10am On Jan 16, 2007
@TV01
I agree that marriage and divorce issues can be very tricky and should be handled on a case to case.

Concerning the questions you asked,
TV01:
In a marriage between a couple outside Christ which ends in divorce. Both parties move on and re-marry. Then one or both of the seperated and remarried couple comes to Christ? Do they term their current relationships adulterous? due to the previous marriage?
In the light of 1 Cor 7, i dont think so. However, a married christian should remain married. whether their spouse is a christian or not, no christian should initiate a divorce. Paul specifically asked christians to remain married to their unbelieveing partners, as long as the unbelieving partner agrees to stay married.
Christianity EtcRe: 'let My Enemies Die By Fire' by lafile(op): 8:47am On Jan 16, 2007
i still wonder why any christian would want anything bad to happen to their percieved enemies. if you are really christlike, you will do as christ did. at the point of death, pray for your enemies. ask stephen; he was a real christian (christlike). he did not pray against saul (paul) and co while at the point of death.
Christianity EtcRe: Is Elijah John The Baptist? by lafile(m): 4:11pm On Jan 15, 2007
The questions from TV01 and your reply have raised some questions in my mind.
shahan:
3. The fact that people have been raised from the dead does not conflict with the verse above. It rather points out the following: (a) it is the common lot of (appointed unto) men to experience death at least once; (b) judgement does not take place immediately upon death: rather, "after this" - after the common lot of men has run its course - at the end of it all, then the judgement takes place.

Let me expatiate:

(a) the common lot of men to experience death at least once:
This does not stretch the idea that all men must die at least once; for in I Cor. 15:51-52 we are given the mystery that some will be alive and not have experienced death when the Lord Jesus Christ returns. The construct of Heb. 9:27 is a general sense of what is common to all men; and that at the last, when all things would have run their course, then the judgement takes place.
When u say men must die at least once (i.e. possibly twice) it gives credence to those who believe in Ghosts. More so when you use the phrase when all things would have run their course. Can you give a reply to the question by TV01 that cuts out the possibility of Ghosts ( or like one thread a few months ago said, dead people paying bus fares)
Christianity EtcRe: Christians: Does God's Word Allow Divorce or Not? by lafile(m): 3:27pm On Jan 15, 2007
yes, i believe he/she can.

1 Cor 7:15 But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.[KJV]
I believe when Paul says a brother or sister is not under bondage when his/her unbelieveing partner leaves it indicates that if a believing partner decides to leave, then the other party IS under bondage in the sense that he/she CANNOT remarry.
I believe this passage was directed specifically to people who got married outside Christ. Why?
In verses 10 and 11 of 1corinthians, Paul gives the command concerning divorce.

7:10 And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:

7:11 But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

why then did he give another set of rules from verse 12? and who where "the rest" he was refering to at the beginning of verse 12?

7:12 But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away

@shahan
You just made the point i was getting at. In my understanding of 1Cor 7, i believe that if the christian party decides to remarry, he/she is n ot into adultery.
Christianity EtcRe: Christians: Does God's Word Allow Divorce or Not? by lafile(m): 12:42pm On Jan 15, 2007
Lets take a look at this scenario:
(Unbelieving i.e. not born again)Man and woman get married. Man (or woman) gets saved few years into their marriage. Unbelieving partner decides to get a divorce (for whatever reason) and remarries. where does this development leave the believeing christian? can he/she remarry?

shahan oya now. i heard a very popular preacher here in lagos say jesus did not exist as a person before his birth. that he only existed as the word. (i hope i got it right sha). and i really think this will clear some doubts about the Trinity.

By the way, can we all ignore the kinky rev on this thread? i mean totally ignore.
Christianity EtcRe: Should Women Preach? by lafile(m): 12:20pm On Jan 11, 2007
From your interpretation of 1 Cor. 14:34 "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law." it follows that women should not speak at all in the churches ( which means the body of Christ and not a church building). so please specify exactly in what setting women can teach, as you said Besides, I clearly delineated that women can teach in particular settings .

Christianity EtcRe: 'let My Enemies Die By Fire' by lafile(op): 10:22am On Jan 11, 2007
people who pray against their (human) enemies are actually disguising their desire for vengeance with righteous robes. a friend of mine and his fiance went to see this pastor and told him people in the girls family were violently against their wedding. guess what pastor said. anybody against this wedding will die. not knowing the person against the wedding was the girls father. even some christians who pray for their enemies do so with the intention of putting "burning coal on their heads".

Please, are u actually preaching to me?
Christianity EtcRe: 'let My Enemies Die By Fire' by lafile(op): 2:09pm On Jan 10, 2007
i argued this issue with someone a while ago and the person quoted a lot of 'contend with those who contend with me' psalms and exodus 22:18 'Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live'. i asked him what would have happened if the early christians had prayed for God to kill paul during his persecution and God obliged?

there are quite a few churches who teach such doctrine in Nigeria (wont mention). i actually know of a friends brother (a muslim) who says he will never become a christian becos the church behind his house is always praying for their enemies to die
