Christianity Etc'let My Enemies Die By Fire' by lafile(op): 11:49am On Jan 10, 2007
There is something i have noticed in Christianity these days. Everywhere, in churches, at home, you find christians praying against their enemies. Asking God to kill their enemies (or for their enemies to die by fire, as the saying goes). They will always find a bible scripture (usually a psalm) to back up this prayer point. So whats your take on this? is it scriptural?

Christianity EtcRe: Nigerian Churches And Noise Pollution by lafile(m): 4:40pm On Dec 20, 2006
Let me paint a picture. At 401 road Festac Town, Lagos, a street dotted with Blocks of flats about 35 of them. Each block has 16 flats of 2 and 3 bedrooms. on this street, there are 4 churches. An anglican church holds its services [sunday and midweek] in one of these Blocks , using the balcony of two flats on the ground floor and canopies for services. These services are complete with PA systems, drums, keyboard and bass. There are also two churches using canopies behind two blocks on the same street, off course with PA systems and the works. There is also an interdenominational prayer meeting held in one flat on the same street. Not counting the mosque on the same street.

Noise pollution? Not defined in thye Nigerian psyche
PoliticsRe: Voter Registration Towards 2007 Election In Nigeria by lafile(m): 2:17pm On Dec 19, 2006
It is becoming almost impossible for me to register. I have only seen the officials twice. Each time i was working. The next free time i had, i checked out the place. lo and behold they were not there. i was told they had moved. to where? no one knows. about 2 months after the start of this exercise i am still unregistered and i'm starting to loose interest. more so since the parties have refused to bring up a candidate i can vote for with a clear conscience.

Christianity EtcRe: Grail Message Or Grail Centre by lafile(m): 9:52am On Dec 19, 2006
@enitan2002
Please educate me. According to the grail message, "human beings are actually only guests on this earth. They came from a spiritual realm, which is far above the world of earthly matter, in order to begin a course of development leading down to this earth. This path continues for each person through repeated earth lives (reincarnation). Through experiencing man's inner, spiritual consciousness develops, grows, and matures." [Wikipedia]. My question is if we come from a spiritual realm so high above, how come we need to come down so low so we can find a way [or in my understanding qualify] to go up to the spiritual realm?

Reverend:
As for the best selling book, times are changing. This is the latest list for 2005

The 50 Top-Selling Books of 2005
Silly. You are quoting the best selling books of 2005 while we are talking about THE BEST SELLING BOOK OF ALL TIME. These books you listed may have been the rave in 2005, but who'ld buy them next year? People have been buying the bible for hundreds of years and they still haven't stopped. How many copies of Thomas Harris' Silence of the Lambs were sold last year? it was on the best sellers list a few years ago, remember? People risk their lives to smuggle the bible into some countries. I'm sure you would risk your life to smuggle the latest Harry Potter book into some country. Bible, book of fairy tales? you bet.

FamilyRe: Terminating A Six Month Pregnancy by lafile(m): 2:24pm On Nov 15, 2006
the truth is your friend knows the right thing to do. its just that she's too weak to face reality. she should have the baby - there's no other option. what happens after that is open for discussion. adoption. she takes care of the baby herself [she could work u know]. worse case scenario she puts another burden on her siblings or mother. abortion has never been a solution - enven your friend knows that. and as someone else said, the bottom line is she needs God in her life.

I agree with you that in many instance mere men have been placed in a intermediary position between God and the congregaion. so many people refuse to make any effort to know God on their own relying totally on the pastor. and in many instance this is encouraged by the pastors. however  I'ld like to know if u are totally against a structured church [i.e. church structure].

The Holy Book is the Book of guidance and verses were revealed in their relevant contexts. You can't say when you ve got headache you just go for amoxycillin because its a Beecham's product. Quran 47 : 4 was referring to the war period and has no direct relevance to our current situation. But if indeed there is a religious war i believe The Holy Book comes handy in ethical rules of engagement.
In other words according to you, the statement in Quran 47 : 4 is only applicable at war times or times of conflict. Question is who determines when its a time of war? you? on just anybody with a copy of the Quran? these terrorist have decided that they are at war. therefore the verse is applicable. you even said But if indeed there is a religious war i believe The Holy Book comes handy in ethical rules of engagement. including Quran 47:4. as has been pointed out time and time again, there are enuff verses in the Quran for any terrorist to use with justification for blowing up anything they want to.

@belloti

can you please explain these quotes from the koran fro all on this topic to understand?

When you meet the unbelievers, smite their necks, then when you have made wide slaughter among them, tie fast the bonds, then set them free, either by grace or ransom, until the war lays down its burdens. - 47:4
(different translation: ) When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads, and when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly.

Those who are slain in the way of Allah - he will never let their deeds be lost. Soon will he guide them and improve their condition, and admit them to the Garden, which he has announced for them. - 47:5

Muslims are harsh against the unbelievers, merciful to one another. - 48:25

Muhammad is Allah's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another. Through them, Allah seeks to enrage the unbelievers. - 48:29
