Gentlemen, intellectuall objectivity is a priceless intellectual virtue. Bright minds would not be so simpleton in analysis, arrogance is when the truth is hard to accept. You do not have to be muslims but when you are confroted by a fact it is nice to accept and move on not making inflammatory remarks which has no objective and no aim.

uplawal:
@lagosboy,longtime, why wont you like your wife and daughters to veil,is it not better to obey ALLAH(SWT)?
@uplawal yeah its been a while as i mostly stay in the background.  sad

You are perfectly right every muslim has to obey Allah (SWT) in all ramifications and Allah has not made the nikaab (veil) compulsory on all the muslims but on the wives of the prophet. The history to the commandment was our noble Caliph Umar ibn Khattab that suggested to the prophet he felt the prophets wife should wear the veil and preserve their dignity to distinguish them and dignify their status, Allah then sent down rveletaion to that effect. This incident is one of the four times Umar made a suggestion and Allah approved it as that was the same thing Allah wanted. Three of these instances the prophet PBUH was wrong and Umar was right and Allah revealed reveleation to concur Umar's RA opinion.

As regards the generality of women the prophet was asked in a saheeh hadith about the part of a woman should be exposed and he said the face and the hand (wrist to fingers and not elbow to wrist).

99% of scholars all agreed upon the fact the nikaab isnt compulsory on all muslim women apart from our beloved Sheikh and in fact shaikhul islam Abdul Hameed ibn Taymiyyah who said it was compulsory but he was wrong on this issue. The saudi scholars make it comulsory as they followed a fatwa from Ibn Baz rahimullah who referenced ibn taymiyyah, it will be interesting to note that not al the scholars of the salafi/wahabiyyah school agree to this fatwa as Sheikh Al albani Rahimuhullah refuted Ibn Baz's fatwa regarding this.

Me saying i will not like whoever my wife is or daughters inshallah to wear it , i havent violated any principle or islamic injuction.

I hope you are clear about this.

Note: the veil isnt the hijab, the hijab is compulsory on every woman.

Honeslty it is comment like this that has made me take the back seat especially when it is not deleted.
IslamRe: Egypt Cleric 'to Ban Full Veils' by Lagosboy: 4:07pm On Oct 06, 2009
I have followed Tanatawis comments in recent years and i will say he his always an embarrassment to the the prestigous Al azhar university. He his no more than a stooge appointed by Mubarak.

No doubt the veil is a personal choice of a woman and it is not compulsory in the least. It is one extreme to make it compulsory like some saudi scholars and it is another extreme to ban it and limit the freedom of a woman to express her faith. Personally i will not want my wife to use the veil or my daughters but to say it is not of islam is a fallacy. Extremism has no limits, we seek refuge from our Lord from extremism on all fronts.

Tanatawi was the same man the suported the French govts banning of the hijab, was the same man his fellow Azhar scholars taunted fro shaiking hands with i think condolezza rice at the UN, he his full of controversies.

The problem of this ummah is with the scholars. May God make us recognise the truth as truth and falshood as falshood, this was the prophet's PBUH dua "Allahuma arina al haq li haq . . . . . . wa arina al batil li batil wa . . . . . . "

This old man should shut the f*ck up.

What benefit is all this nonsense going to do to Nigeria aside from fueling the already inflamed fire of tribalism and deep rooted supsicion between the north, east and west. After 49 years he his repeating the jargon even school kids know about.

The shallow minded ones among us will quickly buy into this and start blaming the north for our predicament rather than us acknowledging that our problem is Corruption. Corruption has no tribe and no race, neither does it have a state or a region where it is dominant. Our leaders have been thieves, rougues and fraudsters. From Ibori in the delta to Saminu Turaki in Jagawa to Akala in oyo to Tinubu in lagos. From IBB from Minna to Aikhomu from Edo, From Sam egwu of enugu to haruna of adamawa and we could go on and onl. If there is one thing our leaders are united upon it is corruption.

All these tribal jargon have no meaning to them as they party together, dine together , steal together and have joint business interests.

Nigerians should unite in fighting these thieves and exterminate the rougues to the abyss of extinction for our dear and beloved country to move foward., Lets stop whining about our the colonialist rigged election and so on , we had 49 years to develop our country but we didnt and malaysia did hence malaysia a multi ethnic anc multi religious country should be a first world country in the next 15 years.

Thought provoking. May Allah bless you Frizy.

You never translate a name , it has to retain its status and pronounciation. Anyone wonder why we always have the translated quran with the arabic by its side? It is to prevent fraudulent translations.

Bible was translate from hebrew to greek to English then to several other languages - 4 chains of translation. Jesus also spoke aramaich and not the hebrew as we know it today. Language experts tells us aramaik is the closest language to arabic and like a dialect of arabic and this laguage is still spoken in some parts of palestine. Merl Gibson also use this language in his movie passion of the christ,

namun,

Its obvious u dont live in lag or go out of your house. Is Fashola building a maga city that will be govern by AREA BOYS?. AREA BOYS/STREET URCHINS extorting money from bus drivers in broadlight day in fashola's maga city? why his government empowers AGBEROS, artisans and market women are displaced.

Teachers are on strike. Areaboys have become the teachers to the pupils/students in lagos in the name of maga city project.

Fashola's govt is only pro-infrastructure but anti-people. Its all about LASTMA extorting money from motorist aided by lagos state trained area boys and council officials. KAI seizing traders wares and re-selling to state officilas.
LASTMA officials are now after TOWING vehicles even without any offence committed.

Can u imagine planting flowers/operating a recreation gardens and having it bab-wired and fenced! thats what i call maga city indeed. Our problem is that we sing praises on people just cos some one else is singing without considering the achievements on ground. I

Its same mistake that Nigerians did during OBJ's reign when ARTHUR NZERIBE said lets impeach him every body said he was best president that we ever had until we veils in our eyes was removed.

Fashola the best governor in nigeria? YES. Has he done tremendiously well? NO. He is still an average governor but better than the rest. All this praising singing will so end when the veils in our eyes is removed or if we are to judge is govt against "governors in Other civilised countries in the world"

But come to think of it!! Why is he still keeping the AREA BOYS?.
Food for thought!!!

FACT!
Fashola is not a politician,he is just working for the people and thanks to Tinubu, [b]Fashola wouldn't have found it easy.Tinubu is really doing the politics for him.
Spot on.

Many people dont realise the big difference between governance and politics.  Most political admistrators get entagled in the murky politics which distracts and saps the enrgy meant for administration. Tinubu handling the polotcis of lagos gives Fashola the energy to focus on governance and coupled with his own attitude.

On the other hand although i am no fan of Tinubu, this eko atlantic thing people are praising fashola for is not his initiative rather it was Tinubus project before he left power.
PoliticsRe: Is Fashola The Only Perfroming Governor? by Lagosboy: 3:51pm On Sep 29, 2009
Now this is a very sincere question as a lagosian and one who wants and hopes Lagos will be transformed to Dubai or Tokyo.

Can anyone list the impact Fashola has made on the welfare of people of Lagos?
Can his infrastrucutural achievements be listed as well?
Can his progress on job creation be analysed as well.
The issue of healthcare could also be analysed.

This will help in shutting up skeptics and using these parameters to compare with other state governors will answer the topic question.

His environmental achievments i know of myself and can list, transportation BRT i know was the achivement of Tinubu and Banire as commisioner.

Unfortunately, the issue IS abt Sharia,I'll follow up on Islam section on killing of apostates, however, your view of Ataturk is really off the mark I wonder if you sure of what you are saying.

The country IS NAMED after him,he died over 70 years ago !!! Erodogan's party can never win anything if they as much as fail to recognise him.

Have you been to Turkey before?? Well I have & u dare not mention Atarturk's name casually,so saying he's not loved 'by half of the population is very ,very wrong!!

The point I'm making is that Turkey is 98% Muslim, half of our population, but more than 3 times our GDP. A developed economy in its own right. They have succeded becos they recognised very early(thanks to Atarturk),that religion & politics shouldn't mix, added to the fact that they resisted the inflence of 'Arabic Culture'.

But in Nigeria (as rightly identified by Sanusi in one of his write-ups) we are the holiest people in the world,we take our religion seriously as well as our corruption grin.

I visited kano some years back & was shocked that street signs were written in ARABIC shocked shocked shocked NOT HAUSA,tell me what does that tell you about religion & nation building. . .this in a state with over 60% illiteracy cry cry cry

LagosBoy,
while I appreciate your love & defence of you religion,I must tell you this is a very serious issue which we must all sit down to analyse seriously. Now tell me: Sharia isn't been practised in Lagos stae, does that mean all the muslims in Lagos are somehow lesser muslimshuh

The moment we dissociate ourselves from these parochial thinking the better.

I suggest you read about the life of Mustapa Kemal Ataturk, the father of Turkey & how he emphasised Turkish SECULARITY over islam,he forsaw the problems associated with mixing religion with politics.

For example according to Sharia, anyone that converts from Islam is supposed to be put to death
!!! shocked shocked shocked Doesn't that contradict frredom of religion guaranteed under the Nigerian constitution??

Everybody should practise his religion in his house & place of worship, don't impose it on people ,or else. . . . .
That is not true, it is a general misconception and i repeat it is not ANYONE. I do not wan tto digress the issue at hand i suggest you go to the islamic section as there is a thread on there currently by Richyblack on this issue and read some insightful posts of muslims on the issue. If you dont understand it i take it on myself to explain in more detail to you if you require.

I am no fan of Ataturk and i have read his history and i know more than half the turkish population do not like him either for his views. Otherwise the AK party will not have been voted to power in the first instance and erdogan will not be prime minister.]

The issue i repeat should not be about sharia and lets refocus to the CBN governors role as a CBN governor.
PoliticsRe: The Mind Of Sanusi On Nigeria by Lagosboy: 6:52pm On Sep 09, 2009
I want to believe we are reading the same article.

Political life for a Muslim is guided by Sharia and in all those aspects of law where an explicit religious injunction exists, a Muslim expects this to be held as valid above any other law
Meaning if the quran tells you that when a Man dies his parents take 1/3 of his wealth  if he has no kids and another law tells you otherwise you are obliged to follow the laws of the quran.

My own feeling is that anyone living in a state should acquaint himself with the operative law in that State before committing a crime. We are all subject to that when we go to other countries. Indeed, the law we have in Nigeria is made for us and we are subject to it
The statement state here can mean state as in a country and state within a country i personally thinks he means country here as he further says "the law we have in Nigeria is made for us and we are subject to it. However even if he mean state within a country, in a presidential system or federalism which we claim to implement in Nigeria any state can have its on set of laws and only issues like defence, foreign policy and some other things will be united. The US have states with different laws and an example is death penality which is a criminal code. You commit murder in some state you go to jail while you commit murder in Texas they will snuff the life out of you.

In the light of this , Sanusi has made no error neither has his statment violated the constitution in regard to states having different laws. You forget that it was the same consitution that the nothern states justified for the implementation of the sharia and the supreme courn never said the violated the consitution so yur arguement in my humble  opinion doesnt stand.

The section 277 of the consitution you quoted has been in the consitution since 1960 and it implies the customary laws and personal laws of the sharia and its implementation.

I am rushing out now might explain better if you dont understand my point when i get back.

IslamRe: Whats The Essence Of Ramaddan? by Lagosboy: 5:51pm On Sep 09, 2009
Although i really dont reply to your posts bu ti think this is an important question.

Allah says in the quran 2 v 183 like Egbo olabs highlighted "Fasting has been prescribed unto you as it was prescribed to those before you in order for you to attain piety

The boldened is the objective of fasting. Why is it in the month of Ramdhan Allah goes furhter in following verses to say "Sharh ramadhan aledhi unzila fiy quran , . . . . " The month of ramdhan that we revealed the quran a guidance for mankind and a criterion "

We abstain from food and water in this month from dawn to dusk , increase our worship and try to improve our personal relationship with the most High and hope our piety and God conciousness will increase by the end of the month to last us for another 12 months when we have to recharge our batery.

^One simple fact is, if you guys have strenuously argued that the constitution is illegal; then the whole government is illegal, our passports are illegal. That argument is not funny and is wholly unsustainable.

If you need to go such lengths to defend Sanusi's mind, then it clearly is not worth defending and the argument is not worth having.
How many consitution has Nigeria created since 1960 , if i am right it will be about 4-6 aside from the many dcrees of th emilitary. The 1999 consitution created in a rush within 4-5 months with so many defects in it. It is the same consitution the Governors of the nothern states used in creating sharia for their states and the supreme court could not prove it to be illegal.

I also wonder why we having discussion on the consitution , Can someone show me where Sanusi violated the constitution of Nigeria??

What you make of the laws in the qur'an should guard your personal life and probably in your relationships within the mosque, not used to judge other residents on the streets of Kano.

It is illegal for me attack someone on the streets of Owerri because the person did something my bible does not agree with but yet allowed by the laws of Nigeria.

For me to suggest that its ok to take the laws into my hand and purnish the person according to the teachings of my bible is lawless and people can only exibit such timidity in a bannana republic like Nigeria.

we need to wake up.
Although i made a mistake by going to the issue of sharia here as i never wanted to stray arguements and i have even mdofied my post before i realised i had been quoted.

Eevry muslim i repeat believes in sharia in prinicple but its implementation in Nigeria is another issue entirely, Sanusi as muslim say he beleives in it so what is the big fuss. He has advocated for its implementation especially in other region of the country and he hast also said other faths should not advocate for whatever laws the deem fit to suit themsleves.

Why not lets focus on the Sanusi the CBN governor and not islam the faith of sanusi.

Wallah i felt really bad at the late burial as well. I do not think it was like the wish of Gani in the context of islam. Every devout muslim knows we do not delay burial in islam. the dead body could wait 2 or 3 days but not two weeks for no reason. I feel his family dont really have the understanding and that is where clerics close to the family should have explained and played a part in the burial plans.

May God forgive him his sins and grant him jannah.

Exzactly what i thought about beafs last post.

Ibime:
Check this extract from Sanusis writings on the state of the federation for example:

The Northern Bourgeoisie and the Yoruba Bourgeoisie have conspired to keep the Igbo out of the scheme of things. In the recent transition when the Igbo solidly supported the PDP in the hope of an Ekwueme presidency, the North and South-West treated this as a Biafra agenda. Every rule set for the primaries, every gentleman's agreement was set aside to ensure that Obasanjo, not Ekwueme emerged as the candidate. Things went as far as getting the Federal Government to hurriedly gazette a pardon. Now, with this government, the marginalistion of the Igbo is more complete than ever before. The Igbos have taken all these quietly because, they reason, they brought it upon themselves. But the nation is sitting on a time-bomb.

After the First World War, the victors treated Germany with the same contempt Nigeria is treating Igbos. Two decades later, there was a Second World War, far costlier than the first. Germany was again defeated, but this time, they won a more honourable peace.

Our present political leaders have no sense of History. There is a new Igbo man, who was not born in 1966 and neither knows nor cares about Nzeogwu and Ojukwu. There are Igbo men on the street who were never Biafrans. They were born Nigerians, are Nigerians, but suffer because of actions of earlier generations. They will soon decide that it is better to fight their own war, and may be find an honourable peace, than to remain in this contemptible state in perpetuity.

The Northern Bourgeoisie and the Yoruba Bourgeoisie have exacted their pound of flesh from the Igbos. For one Sardauna, one Tafawa Balewa, one Akintola and one Okotie-Eboh, hundreds of thousands have died and suffered.
Thanks for this extract Iime i wish you blessings and more guidance. I wonder what the anti Sanusi fellas have to say to his harsh truth and reality to the Hausa/fulani and yoruba establishment who have strong resentment to the igbos. Surley a narrow minded person fighting for only notherners dont analyse issue with such honesty.

Nigerians lets wake and rise above tribal/religous sentiments. Here is a muslim Banker with a degree and knowledge in islamic studies his faith , he writes and contributes to intellectual debates and expresses his opinion on national issues from the perspective of his faith when it comes to religious issues and also from his own perspective when it comes to non religious issues.

The most recent of these articles i guess dates back to 2005 even before he moved to first bank. I find very dusturbing some opinions expressed on this forum especially the ones higholighted by oyb below
Quote
I don't need a soothesayer to tell me that he is an hardcore traditionalist,a tribalist and an islamic extremist

Quote
Yes, as eloquent as a radical iman could be, as tribalistic as a hardcore Fulan-iman who has never travelled outside Katsina/Kano/Kaduna could be.

Quote
The ongoing "sanitisation" of the banking sector is just another front in the Jihad being waged by the Fuanis against the rest of us, including, believe it or not, the Hausas, who they view with the utmost disdain.

Quote
There’s got to be more to talk about than Sharia law, Islam and how magnificent the Hausa man is. There’s no progressive in his blood, and his cradling of Islam so – and not, for example, our blackness – confirms my inclination about Muslims. Many think there religion is the best thing since sliced bread and this is just not the case.

Quote
Sanusi, from his essays, is clearly an individual who, in my view, glorifies Islam, his people, his culture, etc, in a way that is unhealthy for the larger polity.

Quote
. . .Yeah? But some here want us to masturbate at every single one of his sharia emissions.

Quote
His values from his "intellectual" writeups are the values of shariah. If a man holds women to be of such low value that he can amass them like goods (even at his young age), he is of low value to the country.

The CBN is not a sharia establishment.

Quote
. . .Yes, all about sharia by the backdoor.
Somebody please remind me; how many wives does this young progressive man have? How many children (if he himself hasn't lost count)?
The above statements highlighted by oyb points to one direction of uncomfortability with a man that has a strong islamic background.

Ibime position on this issue is of good significance and nice objectivity. Why can people  not judge him based on his perfomance and not his background faith.

Someone talked about him eroding the confidence in the banking sector. How can confidence be based or built on falsehood? How can bank CEO's grant themselves ridiculous loans and award loans of 40 billion plus without collateral. How can bank CEO's forge accounts submitted to CBN? How come Akingbola is in the run if no offence has been committed?

Should Sanusi wait till the banks are distresssed before he acts? A time when innocent depositors would have lost billions and the fat cows ammassed the billions. People forget Savannah bank, Societe general, National bank, and the amonts of money lost in the process.

Sanusi named and shamed several notherners and muslims as well, Rahmaniyyah oil boss is from the sokoto claiphate, Tanzila petroleum is from the north , Aliko is from the north and several others. How is work a nothern agenda? i only wonder

Beaf:
Stop being ridiculous. Gani and Sanusi cannot be mentioned in the same breath, one was governed by the rule of law and giving voice to the plight of the common man; the other see's the World strictly through sharia.
Gani was never responsible for the wrecking of a nascent institution and for goodness sake, was almost 72.

Lets not belittle Gani by comparing him to a clown like Sanusi.
With your few contributiions on this forum - sanusi has more than one wife, sanusi likes sharia

I wonder through what you see the world.

For a man to rise to become the CEO of first bank in such a short time must have some intellect. For him to have wirtten papers at various international and national events he must have some good stuff in the head and surely sees the world through a more wider perspective.

Nigerians dont appreciate knowledge and intellect otherwise this guy should be celeberated as he his one of the few Nigerians of our/his generation we could still count on. He touches economics, political economy , stimulates thinking and thoughts in religious issues, analyses banking and debates politics. I can only pray and hope to have some of the intellectual prowess of the humble man.

Many NLers will be surprised to read so much of his articles and diverse as they are. Please go to Gamji.com and you will see about 20-30 articles spanning from 1999 - 2005.

manchester utd bought him to fill roy keanes shoes. and his greedy advisers advised him to shun that for 30K more a week. most chelsea fans really dont rate him cus for 20mil or watever he costs he's been shyte.
I quite agree with you , he his nothing but shyte

Is there any ex footballer on the board of NFF? cos the FA managemnet has forever been crap aside the days of Alex Akinyele of the then NSC who made sure NFA were serious.

I just feel ashamed of Nigerian football today, i am really angry and disgusted especially when the memories of the Westahof era comes to mind. Amodu should be sacked , the team disbanded Siasia takes over and fields anyone he deems fit.

Gosh i cannot even start to analyse the failure in tactics, the midfield was like basket , i could be wrong but it appeared like odemigwe and TT were the only ones playing football and it was all individual anyway.
