chiover: This people that beat up their leader in this manner are heartless. Why not stage a peaceful protest rather than to disgrace a tradtional ruler? No respect for African culture again in this era,I guess

The Disgrace of the "institution of Obas", as the traditional and spiritual leader and custodian of the people started under former President and maximum dictator Ibrahim Babangida.

Do we still remember when the same Ooni of Ife went to Aso Rock (during Babangida's maradona dribbles, while Nigerians were being killed daily, just for asking for a democratic govt!) to present the grievance of the populace to IBB?

This Oba Sijuade(and many other like him) ridiculed his "esteemed spiritual elevation" and despoiled his "Kabiyesi" (no one can question you) position by accepting filthy lucre from Babangida,

.... ONLY TO COME OUT AND TELL US THAT "THE MAN (Bababngida) is TALKING SENSE"! shocked shocked

Of-course, Babangida was the "author and finisher of the "settlement syndrome" that destroyed the moral fiber of this country!

People like OBJ, TINUBU, e.t.c also learned from Babangida and the institution of OBASHIP became a shadow of itself, a disgrace and every Tom, Dike and Hillary can strip an OBA NAKED and flog him publicly!

Respect they say, begets Respect! "Action and Reaction are EQUAL and OPPOSITE".

The Gods are truly angry with our Obas .....just like they will soon be, with our "men of gods" (MOG)

Just dey watch.

JW214: A sad part of this story is that this happened just in front of NNPC towers where there are stationary APC and heavy security details harmed to their nails and the attackers driving a VW Golf escaped.

Was there no response or intervention from the security attached to NNPC towers when the gun shots were heard or their duty is limited to providing security for the Tower alone?

Anyway, Congrats Dino
I feel you Bro!

Have you ever listened to Fela Anikulapo's "ZOMBIE" Song?

vicoson: My wife says she did me a favour by marrying me, so I should be happy she married me.

We've been married for 3 years with 2 kids. Prior to our marriage we dated for about a year. She even moved in with me when she had accomodation problem for 6 months. During this period I saw hell. She showed me no respect, was playing her games very openly. Her phone rings 24/7, multiple love sms.

When I talk about settling down together, she would say her parents won't agree because my place is far-I'm from Akwa Ibom and she is from Mbaise. Obviously she did not want to marry me but she wouldn't just leave.

She travelled twice to check out some suitors while she was still leaving with me and I got to know from another source. She didn't deny it but said her sister's gave her the connection. One of those guys is an illiterate drug pusher.

Finally things got to a head. I dicovered condoms hidden in her handbag, I had to throw her out of my house. Somehow somehow, we hooked again but this time I only wanted to use her. Not quite long she took in. Although both of us had earlier agreed we won't marry each other, she later claimed she has started loving me but I did not love her anymore.
I went ahead and married her. I even did elaborate wedding. From day one till today, it has always been trouble.

Complaint, complaint, complaint. Nagging, nagging, nagging. She is at the centre of the universe, everybody must worship her, she must be in charge.

Trust me, with this pride I made sure she wields zero power in my house.

Before I forget, I am a Mechanical Engineer, she doesn't have a good O-level.

Yes, my emotions are on vacation, is it my fault?
STEWPIDITY HAS NO BETTER DEFINITION THAN YOUR VERY SELF!

taryour: The answer to your question depends on the kind of man you are married to. You alone know his likes,if you know he doesn't like it and you go ahead and do it then you looked for trouble and deserve whatever comes out of it. And for those that their hubby don't mind, courtesy demands that you inform him before or after you have taken it to prevent issues. Some men like to keep changes in their pockets for reasons known to them so as we women so when you now get there and can't find it is annoying. I know a man who forgets his wallet a lot at home or in his car and always has extra money in his pocket.that's my hubby so I don't go to his pocket so I don't get into trouble rather I wouldn't even mind putting more in his pocket for him sef.

PHIPEX: I believe the question we should ask is how much are banks in other countries charging for using ATM? Nigeria can't be an exception. To Nairalanders in diaspora, are you guys charged for using ATM?

No Charges in ATM Card to Cash Withdrawals,
as in Nadda!

BUT: Some Banks charge (one of my accounts) you for CARD TRANSACTIONS when used at a POS (e.g a shop or supermarket) ....equivalent of about #15/transaction.
Again, some will say if you do a MINIMUM of thirty transactions/month, using your 'card', NO CHARGES for that Month.
(A sort of incentive to make you use your Card for purchases)

Thing is, that 'charge' is so small, relative to the "power of the currency" viz-a-viz "income and cost of living".

If we are to draw a direct parallel with Nigeria, it will be like charging you #2/Card transaction (Note: Not ATM withdrawals, using Card!)

Card Transaction: Use your Card to pay for Goods in a shop. => about #15/transaction.
ATM Card Withdrawal: Use your Card to take money out of an ATM => FREE

But that should not have been a BIG PROBLEM to DEAL WITH Iff and only Iff:

1.) Tinubu has not become another monumental thief and leech in the lives of Lagosians.

2.) If Tinubu and his ACN chieftains have not been imposing their Wives, Girl friends, in-laws, e.t.c on the Politics of the South West!

3.) If the merger of ACN and CPC (Merger of Thieves and Boko Haram! Gawd forbid shocked shocked ) was not doomed to fail because they are not doing so in the interest of Nigerians but in their own selfish interest to "Gain Power at all Cost".
That is Nigeria's Politics for you!

4.) If ACN was as it were, when it was "A.C", before Tinubu hijacked it, PDP will not have the mouth to even open up a challenge, at this point in time. Tinubu ruined AC (N) and by so doing, empowered that devilish PDP to have a say.

5.)Why is it NOW that OPC wants to use Awolowo's name to resuscitate UPN? Why should it be AFTER PDP/Jonathan gave them MONEY to "guide pipeline"? (The same Job Civil Defense Corps was established for! The same Job Police is Killing Civil Defense over. Habba!).

moneybag4411: Sincerely, thie amnesty proposal for Boko haram is annoying...I am based in Kano and words can not describe the amount of horror and pain this sect has unleashed on us...and to say the way out is to appease them with Money..huge some of money is disheartening...

With my own eyes,i saw a woman who lost three children at the scene of the latest bomb blast @ the luxurious bus park in kano..

The baby she had on her back was her only survivng child..THREE children burnt to ashes...now tell me,the killers will be given huge amount of money, how much does this woman get?
Likewise uncountable victims of this heinous act..would the government pay them too?

I want to ask,if the attack targeted @ the emir of kano which almost took his life had been successful, would the government stil have proposed amnesty? Furthermore....the niger delta militant is paid 80,000naira...Boko haram members wil get 100,000naira monthly....and our NYSC corpers get 19,800naira monthly...is that justifiable?

Nigeria needs to wake up
Thank you so much for this post.
Our people still dont understand that this "Amnesty thing" is just a RACKET!
A FRAUD, 419 FROM "OGA AT THE TOP"!

For the avoidance of doubt, "Amnesty" is only granted to:

1.) Bandits who have renounced violence COMPLETELY and surrendered ALL WEAPONS used for violence.
2.) Those who have COME CLEAN by way of CONFESSION to their evil deeds, VOLUNTARILY.... (Not through "Blackmail or threat of further Terror!)
3.) Those who dont have the blood of the innocent, on their hands.....(if you have killed the innocent, you will still serve the time, maybe instead of death penalty, it can be commuted to a long jail sentence.)

*You dont grant amnesty to "wanton murderers" who kill babies and the innocent passers-by!
*You dont grant amnesty because you are afraid of the Terrorist or even negotiate with them from a position of 'fear', which is what Jonathan is doing.

What stops the BH or MEND from picking up their weapons again ..and threatening worse violence if for example they think they want a SALARY Amnesty increase?

Did BH or MEND satisfy these conditions? Did mend not just murder 13 federal officers this week?
What manner of foolish people or Govt REWARDS KILLERS of the innocent?

WHY?
To gain "interim peace"? To pacify them?

Was "financial gains" (like Amnesty) their original intention for starting the massacre?
Have they realized their "original motives"? If 'NO', then what makes the Fed. Govt think those "motives" will simply disappear or the "conditions which lead to the development of such motives" will simply vanish as a result of payment?

Tell, me why OPC, MASSOB or any other group should not take-up Terrorism, knowing that Amnesty is just round the corner?
Is this GEJ Govt actually promoting Terrorism as a way for life for our people?
Who does not like "Awoof Amnesty" Money?

Before you know it, groups of "small boys & girls" will start springing up, learn how to detonate bombs and GBOOSAWA, they are entitled to Amnesty!
My take is that the malaria drug (amnesty) that was used to simulate Peace in the Niger Delta may not necessarily work for a typhoid fever (the Boko Haram imbroglio). Right now MEND is threatening to resume hostilities. It appears they implemented their threat because a while ago, Niger Delta militants reportedly killed about 13 Police Officers in Bayelsa State
Let us be clear on one thing: Police officers (and l detest those people so much because of their unpatriotic behavior to the poor citizenry) represent the "authority of the constitution" and any attack on any of our armed forces or Govt official in the discharge of their duty, is an attack on the country's sovereignty!
Killing officer "to make a point" is sheer terrorism and should not be mistaken with the original demand or agitation for better services and inclusion in wealth-sharing in the Niger delta.
Those who killed those officers need to be hunted down at all cost...ALL COST!
it has nothing to do with amnesty.

We must understand that if people take innocent life and then hide under amnesty, then we have laid the bed for further blackmail and more killings.
The Govt must draw a line between "wanton, senseless murder and moderate agitation for a just cause".

Amnesty is NOT the solution to a Criminal problem like that of Boko Haram because they do not seek peace, ab initio.

Amnesty is fast becoming a lucrative "business", like Kidnappings!

*BH is not fighting for ANY SOCIAL JUSTICE.

* They want an "Islamic enclave or Total Islamization of Nigeria, a Completely Secular Country"? huh

If they dont recognize the right of Christians to exist in Nigeria, why must Christians recognize their own right to exist as well? This is the crux of the matter.

*BH Kills indiscriminately while "freedom fighters" would first warn of an impending 'strike' so that ordinary civilians can be evacuated and such casualties limited.
BH is simply a terror organization that must be wiped out by all means necessary.

*BH has no clear objective except to wreak havoc and instil terror into the minds of Nigerians and its government.

*BH should have known that it cannot convert every Nigerian to Islam, even if you kill all Nigerians....thus their killings and bombings will never succeed and its a wanton waste of innocent lives.

*If BH wants political power, let them form an 'Islamic party' and contest elections. if they have the numbers and support, they would (and should) win and gain political power BUT they cant terrorize Nigerians into submission! BIG MISTAKE!!

*BH are not "Ghosts" but their "physical personalities" is being condoned, protected and nurtured by Islamic Elders in Northern Nigeria; does they appear as "ghosts" to the security forces!

Having said all these, the ineptness of the Nigerian Security forces is legendary.
It did not start today but to be candid, our security apparatus are not fit for purpose, when it comes to modern warfare or terrorism.
The training is mediocre, the morale is shameful, the equipments are obsolete and the political will is not only indecisive but extremely naive and weak!.

Issues like employment, good education, justice, abject poverty, intelligence gathering and management, zero tolerance for corruption especially amongst the political class, social cushion for the less privileged, clear and direct vision in terms of infrastructural developments (Power, Water, Roads, health), moral decadence and use of the "religious centers" to preach hatred and get rich quickly, are issued we need to tackle concurrently if we are to make the slightest semblance of progress in Nigeria.

With the way things are going currently, simply put, WE ARE FU.CKED!

We dont even have a Leader or 'group of leaders' (House of Assembly and Ministers) who understand the level of danger we are in or have the slightest idea of how to turn things around. Everyone is after Money! Money!! Money!!!

It is better to learn from other people's mistake that to go through the same "violent process".
Somalia and Rwanda 'combined", could be child's play, if we are not very careful.

If it were possible to "ERASE" the present crop of vipers and leeches masquerading as "Leaders" in Nigeria, maybe we would have started the "healing process" and sent a strong signal that "Nigeria is no longer business as usual"... to everyone.
Strange that when we needed an "Idiagbon", we got ourselves a Jonathan! Its a big, fat, shame on us.

NB: The "Pant-Bomber" Abdulmutahllab was well educated, from a rich background and did not suffer any "poverty" in his life, yet he chose to be a suicide bomber! food for thought.

Bottom line is: When a Nigerian-bred kid does wrong, that Child is afraid of the punishment that he/she might receive from the Parent. This might make the child correct his ways.

When an "Abroad-bred" kid does wrong, the PARENTS are afraid of correcting the child because over here, the Parents live in constant fear of their child and what havoc he/she can render on them, if they dare try to punish him/her! They could end up in jail or without any children of their own!

So, which will you prefer: To have the ability to correct your child (even cane him/her if necessary, to drive home the point after many verbal corrections have failed) without fear of your child sending you to Jail OR to be constantly afraid to correct your child in the same manner mentioned above, due to the concentration of and abuse of privilege given to "abroad-children" by the laws of the land.

Dont mistake "correction" with "brutality", both have nothing in common.

I think there should be a law against "Parent Abuse", by their Children! shocked shocked shocked grin

Okay Folks, ENOUGH of the RIP's, ABUSES and VENOMS.
Enough of that, lets get serious!

ISSUES:

1) HOW DO PEOPLE GET INFECTED WITH CANCER?
2) WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS FORMS OF CANCER?
3) WHAT ARE THE "EARLY SIGNS & SYMPTOMS" OF CANCER (which if known and treated early, recovery is guaranteed!)
4) WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS OPTIONS FOR TREATING CANCER
5) WHERE ARE THE CANCER HOSPITALS LOCATED IN NIGERIA .......HOW EQUIPPED ARE THEY?
6) HOW CAN WE AS FELLOW NIGERIANS, AND THE GOVERNMENT IN PARTICULAR, ASSIST VARIOUS CANCER PATIENTS

Observations: the rate of cancer infections and death, has increased geometrically among Nigerians, in the last ten years.

I was just wondering, since it is generally "an abnormality and mutation of the body cells" (in lay man's term), could the level of POLLUTION IN OUR ENVIRONMENT be the major cause of the rapid increase?

I know it has a gestation period and if we walk back, it seems to me that the prevalence of the disease COINCIDES with our over-dependence on ELECTRICITY GENERATORS, ON A VERY LARGE SCALE!

Almost every house has a generator, infact, let us say almost every family of four, has one!
I know people that have three Gen Sets (working 8-hour shifts each!)

These Generators spew out a mixture of VERY DANGEROUS FUMES....which we then INHALE as we breathe!
You may not know but the fumes are poisoning us, killing us all, little by little!

The 'i-better-pass' set of Generators are the worst!
In some face-me-i-face-you houses, they have like twenty of these "death machines" working overtime (and when they mix engine oil with the petrol, the fumes become even more toxic)

Now, we cant blame the people for providing electricity for themselves, when GOVERNMENT fails in its duty.

Despite the promise that "If electricity tariffs are jerked-up astronomically, we will then have stable power supply", Tariffs have been raised to the heavens but the power supply is still epileptic (at times you think 'NEPA' staff are kids who like to play with the ON/OFF Switch).

Another culprit is our wrecked vehicles
(especially the Dangotte-type trailers and Fuel tankers). We have so many vehicles spewing toxic smoke into our atmosphere and you wonder how we expect ourselves not to have a RAPID AND VERY HIGH INCIDENCE OF CANCER, if we continue to smoke this Toxic fumes, into our Lungs! (Nothing do Cigarette smokers, walahi! grin ) What are the Vehicle inspectors doing (apart from harassing motorists for money, on flimsy issues?)

I must also not fail to mention that some of us, with the advent of modern life, fail to "observe the basic rules of modern Technology", when we use them.

Examples:

1.) MICROWAVE: The use of PLASTIC CONTAINERS in our Microwaves is a SURE-BET to developing cancer.
I know we all know that but do we observe that rule of using ONLY PORCELAIN PLATES in our Microwaves? (Just for info sake, the high Temp achieved in a Microwave breaks-down, converts and release as 'Toxins', Molecules of the plastic, into our food!)

2.) Mobile Phones: Its true, they produce little amounts of Electro Magnetic Waves/Signals which if the phone is used sparingly or not clutched to your head even when it starts heating-up, may not be that dangerous but l know we are all guilty of clutching that "instrument of the devil" grin to our head for hours on end ...till the battery runs down! well, think twice, Brain Cancer seems to be on the increase amongst people with such habit. Use a WIRED Headphone Please.

What do you think? What are your own observations and contribution?

Let us share and help ourselves .....instead of just lamenting or resulting to all these unproductive abuses that seems to have become the norm around here.

dam4sam: Chei, your reasoning is as poor as your grammar!

*When Israel sprays the Palestinians with WHITE PHOSPHORUS AND NAPALM, just for PROTESTING, I bet no one died, huh?
*Did Israel not storm the blockage-bursting boat McManamara, killing at least 8 NGO activists who are unarmed? (They denied back then but as usual, when they are up to something sneaky read: Syria, they agreed, apologized and are willing to pay reparation!)
*When Israeli soldiers shoot to death, young Palestinian boys throwing STONES at them, you can still say what you just said, right?

Anyway, Ignorance is a disease. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed
You are free to use Israeli flag to sow Babanriga and Face-Cap, if you want but please, try and "Educate yourself" a wee-bit.

Costs you nothing and saves you a lot. wink wink

LeonessAug: Dear Nairalanders,

Kindly help me complete my research questionnaire on Women and Work-Family Balance in Nigeria.

http://www.esurveyspro.com/Survey.aspx?id=80973435-6dd2-4eb9-8340-e3f6258679e2

Brief from my statement of problem
The major problem is that many women try to balance work and children, only to be constantly interrupted at work by the needs of their children, or at home, by the needs of their work. Often, some women leave work in the middle of meetings in order to pick up their children and to stay in the office till the mother closes from work. The rest of the work week may also be lost because of the children's sickness which would require them to stay home. Mothers feel guilty for not being at home with their children. Working mothers are often asked to make a choice between work and motherhood which is often reasons women hardly attain leadership positions in their respective careers.

Thank you.

Your "assertions/statement of problem" in this research are 'stereotyped, baseless and a fallacy!"

Reading you, one would think "FATHERS" also dont have to help out with their kids?

A lot of fathers drop their kids in school every morning and pick them up in th evening on his way back home or the kids take a bus.trek home after the 'after-school lessons'.

Working mothers are not asked to make a choice between "work and kids" but like every adult with children, you need to strike a balance between your "work and family life" ..... and this is NOT restricted to the woman alone!

Peeps like you try to create a "Gender-Imbalance" where NONE exists!

Fathers and Mothers "work together" to make the Family Work!

STOP researching your "unbalanced mind".
STOP being Lazy and get something more "productive and edifying" to research about

Ngwakwe: Pastor,
There was never a referendum on whether Jewish masses/majority were in favour of the Crucifixion. So stop spewing this antisemitic trash or better put it as it should be: The Roman Government in association with some Jewish Elders crucified Jesus because of envy and bla, bla, bla.

Jonathan and Some Council of State members agreed to pardon Alams against the wishes of the majority of Nigerians.

How do you reconcile the previous day glorification of Jesus in Jerusalem when the JEWS where shouting! Hosanna, Hosanna to the Son of David?

I am NOT a Pastor but l think even you should read your Bible, at least once in a while!
wink wink
That quote was "directly lifted" from the Bible, if you care to know.

BTW: So anyone that does not share your 'worship of Israel' is "anti-semitic", right?

Abeegi, we are not afraid to call A Spade, A spade.....if you like shout Anti-Semiu sef, na you sabi. grin grin
