TV/Movies › Re: Sesame Street Makes Its Debut On Nta by lastpage: 10:44pm On May 11, 2011
@AdamuW
This is very interesting. First of all I’d like to say I’m a Sesame Street fan through and through before anyone comments on what I’m about to say. This is an issue close to my heart especially as I’m an animator and cartoonist. I commend Sesame Street for doing this. I’ve been following this story for ages.

But for me the most important question was raised by @last page. ‘What about our own content?’ and he got shot down for asking it. Children’s media is a very important and powerful medium and is a subtle way of maintaining culture and also spreading propaganda. We don’t have any global African children’s programs that can match Sesame Street, Ben 10 , Dora the Explorer, etc. That’s very dangerous on many levels. Many families complain that they can’t find any African content for their children.

I and some other Nigerian/African animators and studios have stopped complaining and are facing the problem head on. My company has developed a cartoon which is now on sale called Bino and Fino. There’s also the O twins coming out soon. But we don’t have the firepower to market and distribute that Sesame Street has. I know that the Nigerian Sesame Street project got about $2 million funding from USAID which effectively means it’s subsidised and it doesn’t have to make a profit. We used less than a 10th of that to develop produce our cartoon.

So if you want to know more about Nigerian cartoons for kids check out the Bino and Fino Cartoon project website here http://www.binoandfino.com/and our blog here http://binoandfino./.

We have a vision to make it as big as Dora the Explorer. Other companies share the same vision for their titles. Sesame Street had to start from
Thanks very much for, not just your incisive thinking (something very rare nowadays!) but for taking it to "the Next Level"!
I dont bother anymore about "infantile shot-downs",  Nairaland is where l come to "relax" and take it easy! grin

I do understand that we are not all equal, in all ramifications and being "anonymous on the internet", even if l get tackled by my "grandson", ITS GAME! wink The few people that are matured enough "in understanding" have already concurred on my suggestion, what else do l want?

I watched the clip of your programme and l must say l was very impressed!
This is the type of thing we are talking about: Something Nigerian an completely original!
(Imagine some saying we cant do anything original, just because others have one something similar? )
Peeps like you are TRAIL_BLAZERS and you have my respects.

How can we "get there", if we dont even have the confidence to "start"?
I particularly like the way the voice-over was done, the "tone" sounded very African (words like "Maama" thrilled me a lot!).
And again, you are not just doing kiddies, it was very educative (I never knew all the many countries that were fifty along with Nigeria!; we all learn everyday! wink )

I urge everyone to just visit the site and watch the preview, its just six minutes! Come back and tell how you felt.

http://www.binoandfino.com/black-african-kids-cartoon-tv/

My Suggestion: If you take the DVD to Schools all over the country and "offer" it to them in person for the price (Self-marketing like some start-up Musicians do!), l feel it will not only drive volume-sales, the Schools might even encourage parents to buy same for their children.

I would rather my kids watch something as educative and informative like this, than watch Ben10 Alien Force, all day!

Please keep it up and improve on this.
Rome was not built in a day and likewise, "Sesame Street" did not spring up from thin air, it was started by "humans" like you, in small-small drops like this.

THREE "GBOOSA" FOR YOU GUYS.

However I really dont think any adult has the right to raise his/her hand on the other. First, ANYTHING is worth a commendation, on that, l commend them.

Having said that, the question l am struggling with is: WHY A "NIGERIAN ADAPTATION" OF SOMETHING FOREIGN?
Why not have our own ORIGINAL that others can copy?

I remember some decades ago, there used to be this "NIGERIAN TV Programme on NTA where one notable Nigerian musician (cant remember his name now), gathered children and they do this "story-line programme", used to be very interesting and even as an adult, l still sat glued to it, the way l watched Sesame street as a kid!

Lets try a much as possible, to be original, 50yrs after independence is enough time to do "copy-copy" and move-on!

How would you feel if a 50yr old man does nothing but copy what other peeps youngsters did? Are you going to be proud of such father?

BTW: I hope they copy the SNOW that falls during the programme! grin

After TEN PAGES this thread still cant come up with a sound logic!

If a woman gets annoyed => She SLAPS a man (She's GOT "self Control!)

If the same man feels aggrieved => SLAPS her back (he LACKS self control!)

Even "LOWER ANIMALS" dont reason like this!

Excellent submission; and the examples you cited are also very pertinent. The truth is that women are very very manipulative (or if you prefer, 'clever'). It started with Eve and it wouldn't end till the world ends. When it suits them, they insist that men and women are equal and should enjoy equal rights and privileges. On the other hand, when it suits them they play the 'weaker sex' card and cry (Crocodile tears) out that they should be treated with care and caution on account of their 'natural' tenderness and fragility. This double-standard is something that I consider extremely repugnant.

A man would bear all the expenses associated with dating/marrying a woman, and yet if the man mentions 'submissiveness', the woman that contributes nothing to the union would rail that she is 'equal' to the man and so cannot submit to him in this age of 'gender equality'. Yet if the man insists that they should both spend equally and contribute equal financal resources towards maintaining the relationship/marriage, the silly woman would question his 'masculinity' - that he should be the man by taking care of his 'responsibilities' which essentially involves providing and caring for her. You notice the deceit and double-standard?
GBAM!.,.,GABM!!,.,.,GBAM!!!

I've read somewhere that "MEN" and "WOMEN" reason with different sides/parts of their brain!
I guess that explains why this thread pans-out like a 2-2 "goalless" draw! grin grin

But it does make comic relief, especially when l need a "silly laugh"! grin grin huh

One can see from the "comments" so far, that selfish interest has been the overriding principle!

Some would say the "Airport" is priority because they have land/house in Lekki!
Some would say Ikorodu because they have land/vested interest there!
Some would say "Up fashola" because they are on the "third-rung" of contractors to Fashola/Tinubu caucus!

We don hear Una but please, can we HONESTLY rank the following "required Projects" in Lagos State, according to the order of priority NOW.

a) Airport in Lekki. (b) 4th Mainland Bridge (c) Repair of Lagos Roads (d) Stable Power Supply in Lagos (e) Refurbishment and building of New Clasy Hospitals (f) Ensuring that Every House in Lagos has access to portable drinking water (g) Light Rail System (commenced?) (h) Education

Now, if we rank these project in "Order of Immediate Importance and impact in the Life of Lagosians" maybe we can help guide our leaders as to "What we really NEED, not what they WANT to give us!

To me, that makes more sense.

PLEASE LETS RANK THEM AND LETS THE THE RESULT.

Tanx.

BTW: I know a few Sin-nators who have landed property in Ikorodu, Abike Dabiri being one of them. There are also all manner of "top-shots" with property there. To say its a "poor people's area" is a mis-yarn! Lekki right now, is like what Ikeja and Central Lagos was, in the 80's! A Business district. It will come and go, eventually. Even Ikoyi is not what it used to be in the 80's, right?
Opening up "an area" should not be left to political considerations, its the duty of the government.

Am laughing in Chineese, right now! (Dont ask me how that sound, l bet you've never seen any Chineese man laughing! They hardly laugh angry )

Let me ask: Did we not have Apollo infections in our Villages, before any European Doctor set foot in Africa? How then did we cure the problem when MOST of you "Westernized peeps" are saying "dont put anything, except its prescribed by a Doctor"? Who is a Doctor sef?

My Grandpa was the "Doctor" for about five Villages and l still remember being called "Omo Dokita" as a kid, anytime we go to our village!
He did not attend "school of medicine" in any University BUT he had "knowledge" of common traditional remedies that worked!
And his treatments were FREE! No He-goats and No Palm-Oil nor tubers of Yam! grin

Okay, l agree, too many quack magicians are around, fleecing people for nothing.

But l swear on my Ma's Grave that when l was small, though we lived in Lagos, we cured Apollo by using a local leaf (Efirin) that grew in our yard, make it tender by squeezing it thoroughly between our fingers and then dip it into small local gin (Ogogoro grin ) and then put one or two drops in the eye and God help you if you wake up next morning and you can feel anything in your eye except see like an Owl in total darkness!
I guess the "gin" was just solvent and it also served as a "disinfectant" to sterilize the leaf and our fingers!
Who says traditional medicine is unscientific?

Am not joking. Am sure someone who's matured a wee-bit will remember this treatment.
I am even willing to volunteer myself to be infected by anyone and then treat it likewise.
You know, Apollo was very prevalent, some decades ago and all those high-sounding Anti-Biotic were either not discovered nor readily available in Naija (Dont mention "cost" naah!)

The point l am making is that "there are certainly efficacious traditional treatment' that have been in use since God knows when, before we got exposed to Western medicine.

The Chineese kept the Acupuncture till the Europeans accepted its efficacy and even that it was far superior in treating certain ailments!

But we Africans (especially we Nigerians that have got some western education!) are very quick to condemn ANYTHING TRADITIONAL!
Whats wrong with us? Inferiority complex, abi na wetin?

BTW: I thought Chloraphenicol as a drug, has been proscribed worldwide?

Kade, April 21, GNA - Kofi Boakye, a farmer, who caught his wife and another man having sex in their kitchen and inflicted cutlass wounds on his "rival", was on Thursday put before the Kade District Magistrate Court.

Boakye pleaded guilty with explanation but following his explanation, the Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, entered a plea of not guilty for him.

He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢1,000 with one surety to re-appear on May 05.

About two months ago, the accused had information that the complainant was having affair with his wife.

The prosecutor said when Boakye confronted the wife, she denied it. On April 11, Boakye went to town and on his return to the house; he heard an unusual noise in the kitchen of the house.

The prosecutor said Boakye went there only to meet the complainant having sexual intercourse with his wife.

Boakye dashed to his room brought a cutlass and inflicted wounds on Badu. A report was made to the police and Boakye was arrested. In his explanation, he said, he actually met the complainant having sex with his wife in the kitchen.

Boakye said the complainant was on top of his wife on a mat and he therefore collected the dress and footwear of the complainant and the panties of the wife as well as a condom.

The complainant then dared Boakye to approach him and as he did so he (complainant) swung the cutlass at Boakye but he (Boakye) managed to collect the cutlass and used it on him instead in anger.

2.) She could have divorced her husband and marry the other lover
3.) She could have stopped acting like a public dog, when her husband raised his "worries"

Annoying in the sense that the "guy' keeps asking ONE QUESTION and NO ONE was able to give him an answer even though some tried to lynch him: HOW CAN SHE SLAP?

This is exactly what we are saying, about the "duplicity and hypocrisy" of gender-related VIOLENCE!

One thing is obvious, some deceived, deranged and "attention-seeking" men think it makes them "more of  a man" or adds to their manliness, if they jump at the opportunity to defend such violence against a man like themselves!

Like the 'avenger-guy in black monkey-jacket and the other one in a Pink Top, that were violently punching the other guy (questionnaire grin) without even following the sequence of events!
MEN ARE REALLY BECOMING "WHIMPS", in the name of being "Politically Correct"!

The way he was crying and asking that question (how can she slap?), was a reflection of the "hurt" he feels, at the "injustice" that allows one gender to be "violent" but the other one must be "composed" at all times! His voice/tone really struck a chord in me angry

Did you notice that his hands were even behind his back, when he got whacked?

Romance › Re: Is It Possible For A Man To Stay Faithful To One Woman Forever? by lastpage: 12:05am On May 09, 2011
There is this lady that came visiting Nigeria, a few weeks ago. She narrated her story to us.

She said she had "trouble" in her marriage while living with her husband, in Ireland.
Eventually, her Pastor prayed for her and the "revelation" came that her husband was a "clog in her wheel to making Heaven".
The man is not a "church goer", does not pay his Tithe and does not even volunteer in church activities! angry

To cut long story short, since she was keen on making heaven, she quickly dumped her husband (and you cant fault the revelation of her Pastor, can you?). She says she now works at the Red**m Headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. (fill the gap urself grin )

The funny thing (if l can call it that?) is that as an ordained Deaconess now, she laments that almost All the Pastors and Ministers working with her at the Headquarters, wants to "screw her" right now! shocked shocked
She says this is making her very uncomfortable and mad.
She thinks she been led down by those she trusted.

Why did l bring up this story?
I was shocked when she narrating and it reminds me that "faithfulness" can be found not in the "expected places" but in places and those we least expect.
Think about this for a while. Think about those "men" who have given us "a chip" of their faithfulness on this thread.

Yes, its very possible to be faithful to your spouse.
Like some said (and we can glean this from those "confessions"wink, YOU NEED A REASON/PURPOSE TO KEEP REMAINING FAITHFUL, in this debased and depraved world.
It could be because of your spouse, your experience in life, your spirituality and "respect" for God (NB: I did not say fear, l would rather respect God than fear him! Afterall, no one "fears" a father they love and who loves them wink ), and a host of other reasons.

@isale gan2
Does this also apply in the case of a man who is known to batter or have battered all his "women" - girlfriends or wives?  Did every one of those women mouth off?  Is he just unfortunate to be a man who attracts or is attracted to only such women?

After how many incidents of wife-battering is a man considered to be a batterer, and not simply a victim of a "mouthy brazen" woman?
Good Question!

Two things "may" be happening here.

1.) Like its said, "two is coincidence" but after the "third wifey" and he stills keeping hitting, then  the man has a psychological problem (He may be the subject of persistent abuse, during his formative years (from parents, guardians, e.t.c) such that he cant do without hitting anyone.
You will notice this type in that he will also not just hit "women", he will hit men (male friends, colleagues, neighbors, e.t.c as well. Even his children would not be spared!). He needs to get medical help to overcome his problem.
Same applies to a woman who badges the first Husband/Boyfriend and then calls him 'wife-beater" only to end-up badgering the next two (naah, not even likely,  after the first one, the second one is almost impossible to tie down grin )

2.) By saying "all his women", we are assuming at least three, at a minimum, right?
The other possibility, and this is very remote (like 20%) is if he is just so "unlucky" or by his "attitude and the company he keeps", he is attracted to very lousy women (l mean the type that even Jesus cannot live with, if he ever chose to  marry! Takes two to tango though!
Concerning Jesus, am just Wondering why that dude did not marry? Being smart and all-knowing, could it be that he knew, a-priori, what doing so could mean to his life, Ministry and salvation of all humans! grin He seems to have learnt his lesson from Adam (in the Garden of Eden), l would say) wink

Well, if thats the case, he needs to radically change his ways but better still, he should shy away from marriage!

BTW: Seems courtship and Girl-friend/Boy-friend days are more enjoyable than "marriage" in itself?
Hardly do you see B.F and G.F battering each other!
The man swaggers about and his darling G.F is all smiles and dripping with love kiss kiss (Just wait till after you marry me! huh )
Of-course, in that scenario, If you cant live by the "rules or the "terms of the relationship", WE SIMPLY CALL IT QUITS, No wahala grin

We can also ask: After how much violence (verbal and physical) should a woman be considered  "a Husband Abuser/killer"? wink Hmmmm.,.,.,
Romance › Re: What Is The Big Deal In Hitting A Woman? by lastpage: 6:13pm On May 08, 2011
Every woman going into marriage SHOULD be handed a summary-copy of the below, by her father!
I call it the "Manual of Mutual Respect" between a man (husband) and a woman (wifey).

@Pro01

Don't mind these deceitful women and their pus.si.e-whipped male apologists. On one hand they are quick to yell that men and women are equal (that relationships/marriages should be anchored on equality; that there should be no such thing as submissiveness; and that if men can cheat, women can too, bla bla), but on the other hand, they tell you that women are naturally weaker than men, or that men have physical advantages, (or even that it is 'normal' for men to 'take care' of women!). Can there be anything equal between strong and weak? ? ? ? ? That is why I'm more than convinced that duplicity, blackmail, double-standard and hyprocrisy are naturally hard-wired into the female species genes.

Now, talking specifically about the issue of hitting a woman. Ordinarily, it should be unacceptable to brutalize any innocent HUMAN - man, woman or child. Going about beating persons who did not provoke you in any meaningful way is something that only beasts do. However, when a person provokes you sufficiently - and abuses you verbally and otherwise, the basic human instinct is to retaliate in any way you can. Not only would such retaliation put a temporary stop to such provocation, it may even serve as deterrence to future provocation. Therefore, there is NOTHING fundamentally wrong in a husband slapping the demons out of a wife that does not see the sense in respecting his position as the head of the home. I've seen where some wives take advantage of their husbands' gentleness (or should I say MUMUness) to rain curses and unprintable verbal abuse on the hapless men: "useless man", "impotent man" "jobless man", "worthless thing", "marrying a lazy, good for nothing man like you was the worst mistake of my life", "who told you that you're a man? If you're a man why can't you provide for your family, infidel", "I would have married my former boyfriend instead of a vegetable like you, I wouldn't even wish you on my worst enemy",  etc. etc. etc. These are some of the daily 'words of inspiration' that some wives-from-hell pour generously on their unfortunate husbands. And yet such men are supposed to act 'mature' and 'cool-headed' by overlooking these provocations and trying to 'make things work' with their wives?

Truth is: Respect is always reciprocal. I've never seen a case of wife battering that was not as a result of ceaseless verbal abuse or brazen disrespect on the part of the wife. Good, sensible women don't ever get hit by their husbands - no matter how violent the men are. I think women should work on themselves and their flippant mouths and unwifely behaviour rather than persist with the mindset that they are free to misbehave and abuse their men as they like - and that no matter what they do, they don't deserve to be hit by men. That's that.
Pro01: If anyone calls you a kid, then you're the wisest kid God ever created!
I have seen "some" abuse you because of the above, well,.,.,just read the rubbish they spew and you would agree with the word of the Bible which says "by their fruit, ye shall know them"!

What you have written above shows that you are not only matured, but you have wisdom, you are fair-minded and have a balanced mind.

For those that asked you the question about "watching their Father beat their Mother", let me also reverse the question for them!

"How would you feel watching your mother battering your father or ruthlessly humiliating him? Yea, tell us how you will fell! Hapy, right? Afterall, he is a man and just deserves it, huh? (not that he cant deal with her, but he just wants to conform to the "manly standards wink set by 'who-knows')

Truth is: In life, we cannot "pick and choose", only when it serves our selfish purpose!
I dont advocate ANYONE (man or woman) beating or denigrating  the other.
In a marriage, there should be MUTUAL RESPECT and like any "association/partnership", there are expectations;

Maybe, COUPLES SHOULD TELL THEMSELVES (in writing)
1.)What they expect of him/her in Marriage
2.) What he/she should expect of them, in marriage.

Any woman that would includes:
1.)I would beat you up, if you annoy me (or who has beaten his man up, during courtship grin )
2.) I would rain curses and unprintable verbal abuse like: (on you) "useless man", "impotent man" "jobless man", "worthless thing", "marrying a lazy, good for nothing man like you was the worst mistake of my life", "who told you that you're a man? If you're a man why can't you provide for your family, infidel", "I would have married my former boyfriend instead of a vegetable like you, I wouldn't even wish you on my worst enemy",  when annoyed.,.,
IS ENTITLED TO DO SO, if the man goes ahead and marries her! grin

What you get nowadays is women who "behave impeccably" before marriage and once married, will become something completely unimaginable, to the man!
(more like pretending! especially in the western world where they use the Police to harass their husbands and then "claim" his house and all his life's hardwork!)

Dont be surprised, very soon we will have "Pre-nuptial contracts" being the order of the day in Nigeria too, as is in Europe and America.
This is because some men are beginning to "wise-up" to this pretense by "some" women!

Mind you, some women are "made-in-heaven" and if you are lucky to have one of those ones (wife material!), then you are not only blessed, you will never have any reason (even if she begs you to do so, so she knows how it feels grin ) to as much as shout at her.

But if you get tricked into a marriage by one of the "exact opposite" and you're then foolish enough to take her abroad, thinking you're making life better for her and the children, GOD HELP YOU lipsrsealed wink

Some women even hate being a woman, they prefer or wished God has created them as men and thus,  they have this "aggressively-abusive instinct" in them. They get very aggressive at men, just for the sake of it.
These "types" are very evil and would destroy any good "family relationship" because they themselves cant maintain one!
Dont mind if they call themselves "Mrs
X or Y", check them out in real life, they dont have a marriage! tongue No sane man can stand them kiss

And they would try as much as possible, (just like Satan), to deceive as many other women who are currently enjoying family life, to destroy such so that their ranks can be swollen wink

Finally, a man(husband) should respect a woman(wifey) and a woman should respect a man. That is what "equality" is all about or are we no longer equal, anymore? grin
Like the God,  "the author" of marriages said "Wives, RESPECT your husbands", Husbands, LOVE your wife". End of story.

Even The Brits inaugurated a CHAIR for him at one of their best University! grin

He in-turn, pumped and invested his countries wealth in their economies, in the Name of a Sovereign Fund!

Not a bad idea until.,.,.,.,.,.,.

Back to the Present:
The Billions of Dollars (Sovereign Fund, Not Ghadafi's personal funds) invested was first frozen and is now being used to pay for a War!
European and American War!

America takes 30Billion dollars of Libya's money and now wants to use it to arm REBELS, in a Civil war and off-set its own expenses, in the war! France is doing the samething too, even Britain!
Whose "ARMS" are they buying? From "Whom" are they buying it? wink

@dillikonko
I agree with almost all your comments and observations but i think in a way you have digressed form the main issue and misdirected your grieviances at the wrong person.Do not forget that Sanusi has a job to do and if he's proposing this at this point in time,it is left for who ever has appointed him to put all the other pressing issues in the scale of preference as u said. What has Sanusi got to do with providing us with good light, internet services, etc. He's doing as much as he can in the banking sector and i think other people that are appointed to provide Nigerians with these other amenities should be doing their jobs too and be responsible at that too.
I totally feel u in terms of doing more other things that directly impact our daily lives rather than priortising a cashless society at this point. As u said we need to learn how to crawl before walking rather than trying to run. We actually seem like a jinxed nation(God forbid) at times.
GEJ for the next 4yrs, can he provide us with all of these?
Thanks for your observations.
I took "all of them" (the current government and its cabinet members), in one swoop.
Why? I want to believe that such decision, as "announced" by Sanusi, is a "POLICY DECISION" and thus, represents the thinking of "government".
Maybe l am wrong, but l feel the fiscal and financial responsibility of the CBN (represented by its Governor) impacts not just the "cash" that we spend/earn, but our entire life and lifestyle!

Look at it this way: The CBN (and l will often use Sanusi and CBN interchangeably cos he represents CBN and makes "binding" policy pronouncements by CBN"wink can make useless, our earnings and investments (by devaluation, rate-manipulation, e.t.c) and it can increase the value of our toil, if it wants. It can makes us poorer or richer, indirectly! Since we "the citizens" constitute the "country", we can then infer that "if you ruin the "individuals", you have also ruined the country".

So, if Sanusi, through policy formulations "advices and directs" government properly, it could mean that "each household has more expendable money in its purse", government has more money to invest in structural projects (road, communications structures, power, e.t.c.) and life gets better for the ordinary man on the streets. They are all connected.

Imagine, how do l pay my "artisans" (bricklayers, Carpenters, Labourers,e.t.c) at the end of their working day, if all l can withdraw as CASH, for that day is 150K? How do l pay the driver of the Tipper that deposited sand/Gravel or do l ask each one of the above mentioned workers to come along with their Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminal so l can "swipe" my "Gold card" grin like Uncle Sanusi has directed? shocked

I also dont think it is Sanusi's job is to "misplace priorities on our behalf", with our hard earned income/individual wealth, by introducing policies and making it "urgent" (with penalties!), that we go cashless, at all cost, even when it is obvious that we are not only ill-prepared right now, but we are likely to just punish our citizens for no good reason!

It all boils down to "doing the right thing at the right time"!

Let me repeat, going 'cashless' has huge advantages and we will have to, WHEN WE ARE SET TO, because the "structures required" to make such transition "smooth and successful" as is the case in advanced economies, ARE IN PLACE.

Tanx, again.

As Naija peeps, we like to "posse", "swagger" and "blow big/heavy grammar" INSTEAD of addressing the core-issues!

Let me quote someone else: @dremoney
Our space satellite technology got to be up and running. Most households must have access to uninterrupted power supply with good broadband internet connection, Then we can start talking about policies like this, dudes actually more foooolish than i thot,
Let me ask: Since we can have "free VIDEO CALLS" via most social-network applications like SKYPE, MESSENGER, GOOGLE-TALK, and about ten other different ones, WHY HAVE MOST NIGERIANS NOT MIGRATED TO USING SUCH "FREE" VIDEO-CALL APPLICATIONS BUT RATHER STILL PAY FOR VOICE-CALLS, AT EXORBITANT PRICE?

A honest, soul-searching ANSWER to the above questions will point us to the right direction, in implementing whatever policies SANUSI wants to implement!
Now, let me answer the question above: Its because of the same reasons quoted above: POOR OR UNAVAILABLE INFRASTRUCTURES to make it work properly!

I tried using Skype/Fring for my video calls but the "Bandwidth" at the Naija end is soo low, they could hardly make a connection!
It breaks off every ten seconds and tells me it cannot carry video!
When l revert back to "voice-only", it works for a minute and then "automatically disconnects!
Meanwhile, "Abroad", l use my Broadband connection to STREAM my Home-Surveillance System, to my Mobile Phone, from work! Thats how easy it is.

Yet, in the same "Abroad", I still occasionally have reason to pay "cash" for purchases made in the store, l even paid cash for a 42" LED TV!
it was a matter of "choice", as l have Credit cards for two of my checking Accounts! No one penalized me! ITS MY MONEY!

If l wanted to withdraw/Save 10Grand, l only need to EXPLAIN the SOURCE of my money (very reasonable) and l still make my transactions! NO FINE!! The bank actually give me "incentives" to make purchases using my card, for example, l dont pay "online banking charges" in the month, if l can make at least ten purchases, using the card! Does that not make sense, Than "imposing a fine"? shocked angry

Thus, the issue we should be addressing (Which Sanusi should have made his priority) are:

1.)How can we ensure uninterrupted Power Supply?: I've heard some talk about batteries but please, why cant we aspire to be intelligent  people and do things properly? They dont use battery to power their business in advance economies, BATTERIES ARE USED AS BACKUP, SHOULD THE MAIN, ONLINE POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM GETS SHUT-DOWN FOR A FEW MINUTES (e.g if there is a problem, like an accident or terrorist attack!)
But Nigerians want to turn it to our "MAIN SYSTEM" in Nigeria? angry angry
Let us tackle power first, then we can think of "cashless" next, in that order!

2.) How can we ensure EVERY HOUSEHOLD HAS ACCESS TO INTERNET?: There is about as much you can do from a "mobile phone" due to its "limited screen-size and keypad". I-Pad, Tablets and Touch-Screens are coming up but still way-too expensive for every Tom, Di-ck and Harry in Naija, for now.
In advanced countries, as you build a house, the cables for LANDLINE TELEPHONES are laid immediately. This is the bedrock of BROADBAND INTERNET ACCESS! GSM/Wireless internet has LIMITED BANDWIDTH, even in advance countries and that is why they are called "Mobile Access" (for use on the-go and in emergencies).
For a "landline-based" Broadband Internet, it is way cheaper and for just 20GBP or $30 or 25Euros, you can install some 5MB (Upload) / 50MB (download) Broadband access which will allow you do wonderful things on the Web and take advantage of all the E-Commerce in the world.
In Nigeria, that "useless thing they call BROADBAND internet" is at best, a very good DIAL-UP SERVICE! And it costs so much! Anyone who has used "REAL BROADBAND" abroad will attest to this.
If you use Nigeria's current "epileptic internet service" while trying to  make a payment, it will "BREAK MID-WAY AND YOU WILL END-UP PAYING MORE THAN ONCE! Who will help you get your money back in Nigeria? Is it Sanusi or GEJ? grin What if your Phone runs out of battery juice, mid-way? wink Abegii, now?

The "INCENTIVE" to go "cashless" is in the "cheapness,  smartness, ease, safety and security of the system; NOT SOME FUNKY-MALLAM who graduated in Islamic Studies from Sudan university, IMPOSING FINES ON YOU FOR WITHDRAWING OF SAVING YOUR MONEY! And you still reserve the right not to take advantage of it!
How do we expect a "Sharia-Graduate" to properly "drive technology" properly? The innate lapses will always come-up at crucial times like this.

Thus, what are we going to do, to ensure "MOST" houses have access to a decent Broadband Internet Access?
What is the government and Sanusi himself going to do about this, FIRST' before IMPOSING "CASHLESS" ON US?

Or are we just a Nation that punishes its people, even when they are not given or have an OPTION?
Lets put FIRST THINGS FIRST, before we start copying GOOD THINGS from Abroad.
Am not saying going cashless is not good, it is very desirable.
Those talking about it as "providing business opportunities" for jobs like "Merchants" should have asked themselves: How come we dont have CCTV Monitoring for our streets and important locations, as obtained in the U.S? How come all our street lights dont work 24/7 as obtainable Abroad? How come EVERY HOUSEHOLD still has to sleep under the NOISE AND FUMES of Mechanical GENERATORS, in the 21st century? How come we are still short of fuel (better under GEJ) and Kerosine, even when we are a major producer of Crude oil and we are not under   any sanctions like Iran (who apparently produces enough fuel/Kerosine and exports the excess?)

Finally, any sensible NATION with good leaders WILL ORDER ITS PRIORITIES  of a "Scale of Preference" (as we were taught in O-LEVEL Economics) and "solve them" from the highest, to the lowest!
Which is more important to Nigeria NOW: being "Cashless" or having the tools (Power and Internet Broadband) to become Cashless in future?

Cant we for once, LEARN TO CRAWL BEFORE TRYING TO RUN? Are we a jinxed nation? What manner of "Leaders" are ruling this country sef?

Nuff said.

This Sanusi is a BIG JOKE!

Even in advanced economies where all the infrastructures for "cashless society" are in place, they do not limit cash withdrawal to the above figures!
Yes, you might need to inform the bank before hand to withdraw like 2,500GBP or $5,000, but NO ONE PENALIZES YOU for withdrawing your money IN CASH! A lot of Onyebeke people dont even have bank accounts!

Gosshhh! angry
Too many infantile imbeciles on Nairaland! angry angry
These scumbags are always ready to "blame GEJ" for anything, even when they fart from their mouths! shocked
How can someone with a shred of brain-matter be "putting the Cart before the Horse", just to justify their hatred for GEJ and PDP?

Make no mistake, "in the larger scheme of things", the buck stops on the President's table. He takes (and is expected to take) responsibility for any "systemic failures or success", even if he was only remotely connected to it! That is called LEADERSHIP!

But let us be honest for once: Let us take the "Nigerian environment" into CONTEXT before heaping blames on him.

For those "mouthing-off" about how security is managed overseas, ask yourself: DO WE HAVE THE SAME KIND OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND PERSONNEL" AVAILABLE TO THE PRESIDENT OF THOSE COUNTRIES?

For example:
1.) Take power and internet: A lot of intelligence is leveraged on the internet. The FBI/CIA is "all the time" straining our E-mails and tapping our phone calls, sifting for intelligence that would lead them to the next 'security breach". They have the "Mega Computers Servers", they have the Internet Bandwidth, they have the constant Power Supply, to do these things. Even more, they have the "TRAINED PERSONNEL" who are 100% loyal to their country and their country's values, to do it! Not loyal to one "ethnic tribe" (as you can see in the case of Policemen and NYSC Directors in the North who neglected and exposed those Corper who are running for dear life, back to the hoodlums! That wont ever happen from an American Marine/ FBI or Policeman!)

2.)In Nigeria, allegiance is less to our "National Flag or President" but more to each individual tribe and region. This means even when the President "delegates" security intelligence to "concerned officers", he cannot guarantee they would do the right thing when the challenges occur! And how many will he sack before we start alleging "Ethnic cleansing" or have you not heard of that before?

Put Simply, our "security infrastructures" are not yet adequate and evolved enough" to deal with the kind of madness we are talking about. Let us limit what we can achieve to what tools we have.
The greatest tool we have right now (which is not been deployed by those in position to influence these Almajeris) is their "Regional Leaders". They know these leaders, they respect some of them and would listen to them. If "Leaders" like Buhari, IBB, Sultans, Emir and Imams have gone on T.V and Radio (BBC Sharia for example grin ) and told "their children" in plain Huasa language to respect the life of everyone, especially Corpers and non-natives, if they had told them that the alleged Rigging will be challenged ONLY in the courts and not by burning people alive, they could at least have positively impacted the madness!

But what we have are criminal-minded leaders whose only comment is to "justify the killings" by saying it was instigated because people PDP rigged! PLEASE.,., PLEASE, "you drive-away the fox first, before coming back to scold the chicken on the wisdom of straying in the open field, right"?
There is an "appropriate time for everything"!
When OBJ unleashed the military might on ODI townships, we all concluded that it was an "over-kill". If GEJ has just unleashed the same millitary force on the Northern states (bear in mind these recent killings has serious tribal and religious roots), then it would simply have  made things worse because it will give an excuse for some dunce tribal leaders to turn it into a full-scale tribal war! One they have been preparing for but that others might not be ready for, at this material time moreover, why must it be "war" when a S-Southerner wins an election? Why not when Yar Adua was rigged-in in 2007? Go figure. wink

I dont like PDP, GEJ or most Politicians for that matter but even idiotic posters on Nairaland are not giving the President the deserved credit.
He is not a magician and cannot completely erase the rot of Nigeria in one year! Even Obama has not turned everything around in America, in the last 3years, how much more in Nigeria where "almost nothing works"? Its good to blame the President (at least he will sit-up more) but dont lets make him a deliberate scape-goat by ignoring the truth. Some are so mischievous that they are just waiting for GEJ to have a "major mis-step" or want an opportunity to "push/goad him" into taking rash actions, so they can say:  "Eehhn, did we not tell you?"!
All the same, when "the heat and emotions are down", l hope he will conduct a thorough investigation and expose/jail those master-minding this rascality in our polity. In his time, of course.
Nigeria's security intelligence apparatus ( a reflection of our daily life) also needs to be upgraded, fine-tuned and staffed with qualified and pro-active people. It should not be made a center of "political appointment or quota system", off-loaded with "average or below level" citizens, like our Police Service.

Some issues are more delicate and volatile than others.

One thing l have realized on NlLand is that "most commentators" here (not all certainly) are half-illiterate, un-informed ignoramus, plain mischievous, too hateful and tribalistic to see, recognize or even articulate the truth, sensibly! (Now, you can abuse me if you belong to that category, you have the right! grin I ont want to mention handles,,,hehehe grin ) Unfortunately, there is a sister website where people with "recognizable intellect" argue and discuss national issues. I am sure not up to 10% of people here-in can "put-up" an intelligent write-up worthy of publication in a place like Nig.Village. Square or Sahara Reporters,  and put their name on it. Pat Utomi does,  Levi Obiojorfor, Reuben Abatti, Wole Soyinka, Terver Atsar, Sinola Oluhemse, Okey Ndibe, Aliyu Tilde, just to mention a tiny fraction! How many of these kind of people will write the kind of trash that some irritant write over here or is this place now the equivalent of "Ovation Magazine/ Ikebe Super" when it comes to measuring standards? Shioooo!!

Anyway, everything get level sha. No beef.
Cheers.

They were left on their own

As security presence was greatly stretched to contain the violence which had erupted across the state, the army's 35 Battalion obtained clearance to open the orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state capital.

The corps members in Daura, numbering over 100, were asked to assemble at the Daura Police station, while the commanding officer of the battalion, Emmanuel Etuka, a lieutenant colonel, made provision for buses to evacuate them to the camp under military cover.

But on the same Monday, the NYSC Katsina State coordinator, Abdul Salisu Taura, visited the corps members at the Police station, refusing them relocating to the orientation camp. By Tuesday, Mr Taura disbursed N1,000 to each corps member to use to fend for themselves, while they slept inside the police station premises in the open air outside.

By Wednesday, the corps members decided they would no longer pay heed to Mr. Taura and instead go to the camp than continue living in the police station. But by this time the military were unable to provide the buses which had initially being offered.

When NEXT asked Mr. Taura why he refused them moving to the camp, he denied giving the directive. And when asked what provision the NYSC had been made to transport the corps members to the camp, he said it was the responsibility of the Army to provide the transportation.

"The army is there. The army is to move them. Like me I am very far away now. It will take me about four hours to get to Daura. Let the army move them," Mr Taura said. He subsequently switched off his phone.

In a desperate effort to leave Daura, the corps members made a written application to the authorities of the Yusuf Bala Usman College of Legal and General Studies, Daura, for a bus to convey them to the NYSC Camp.

The school authorities initially refused on the grounds that they needed to see the security which would accompany the vehicle they would release to the corps members. But when Captain Omotade with several soldiers drafted to ensure the corps members safety presented himself, the school's provost, Husseni Umar, in the presence of the registrar, Mohammed Daura and the director of works, still refused citing several reasons.

"One, it is unlawful for the army or the police to come into the school premises. Two, we cannot guarantee the safety of the people if we release our vehicle. Three, are corpers of a privileged group that they alone need protection? I am the chief security of the college and I will not release it. Even we as a board we have superiors we report to," Mr. Umar said.

When NEXT asked who could be approached to get clearance for the release of the bus, Mr Umar said he would not assist. At an earlier time, the director of works had said only the governor of the state could give the approval.

A good Samaritan At wits end, the corps members resigned to charter seven commercial buses at N2,000 each vehicle. But by the time the vehicles were assembled at the police station, neither the corps members nor the NYSC Zonal Inspector in charge of the zone, Mrs Shittu had the funds needed.,.,.,.
Pls read the rest of this story at the supplied hyperlink. You will see that these murders are deliberate and sanctioned by officials and state authorities in the North!
No Southerner NYSC must report in the North henceforth, otherwise the NYSC should be scrapped completely!

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Lagos State has said it stepped down for Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to enable him complete the projects, which he started

It, however, said it did not adopt ACN House of Assembly members in Amuwo Odofin, Ojo, Oshodi/Isolo and Kosofe local government areas.

APGA State Chairman Dr. Dominic Ferguson said the party decided to withdraw its governorship candidate after consultations with Ndigbo and the Ohaneze in Lagos.

Ferguson said: "They have said the APGA candidate should step down for Fashola,  It took us time to reach that decision; it was not a decision that was based on personal interest because we did our research.

‘’The Igbo have no other choice than to withdraw its governorship candidate to allow Fashola to run.

‘’We will be doing ourselves a disservice if we do not allow Fashola to continue with the good work he is doing, Ferguson said.

He said the action governor was now a reference in Nigerian leadership and as such the Igbo cannot afford to deny him their support.
