Romance › Re: What's The Problem With Nigerian Women Abroad? by lastpage: 5:53pm On Jun 17, 2011
Ohwy Lordy!
These my Nigerian Peeps have a way with making one laugh! grin grin

Just reading the responses, from the "unprovoked anger" of one, to the "defensive positions" of another gender, to the ridiculous ones who think you dont deserve "love" because you're not sitting on a "Driver's Seat".,.,.,! Lord have mercy!

I have a strong feeling (l may be wrong!) that in the not so distant future, Nigerian Men and Nigerian Women (living Abroad) would avoid each other as PLAGUE! grin grin

Infact, l sense a "war-of-genders" is brewing between Nigerians in diaspora and would get full-blown very soon!

Will be very interesting to watch how "they out-do and do each other-in", knowing "how dirty" Nigerians take a fight wink

the brains behind this issue should be brought to face the wrath
the engine and chasis number of the bomber's car should the send to NIGERIAN CUSTOMS and related quarters, to trace d buyer. and to who and who
They ain't that stewpid!
People who do this kind of thing (like Kidnappers and Armed Robbers), do it using a STOLEN VEHICLE! shocked
That way, the Police will be chasing "straws" if they want to use such vehicle to identify them. wink

The event further accentuates the need for CCTV Cameras on our streets but unfortunately, our Governments dont take security seriously and the required infrastructure (Stable Electricity and and decent broadband) to support such idea seems an utopian dream in Nigeria, despite he Billions of Dollars the country earns on a daily basis, from the sale of Crude Oil. angry

Politics › Re: Lagos 2015: Acn Searches For Fashola’s Successor. by lastpage: 9:39pm On Jun 16, 2011
ACN is NOT actually winning because it is ACN!

Take 1999, ACN won by "sympathy votes" from mainly the Yorubas.

Everyone agreed that PDP was dominated by those who killed Abiola and that most of the Campaign for Democracy (CD) and Afenifere members where in A.C.
So, they voted Ac in 1999.

In 2004
, OBJ's parley with the Northerners, his choking strangle-hold on Lagos Budgetary funds for the Local governments ensured that the S/West peeps saw ACN as the "opposition party" and still voted ACN.
On basis of "real Performance" Tinubu would not even smell a second term with all his "Toronto and corruption" somersaults.

In 2007, No one really knew Fashola that much except that he was part of the Tinubu cabinet!
But at that point, the PDP had been so bastardized, especially with OBJ's attempted Third Term failure that even if Bingo my dog grin had been made the "opposition party" candidate in Lagos, it would still have won!
Anyone or any party apart from PDP would still have won. So ACN was voted for massively in 2007.

But the equation changed dramatically after then!
Fashola started with a very "obvious drive" for excellency!
Within a short time ( l will say within 15months) people could point to a few positive things he has done in Lagos and there were numerous "on-going" projects especially in the areas of Road Infrastructure, Oshodi clear-out and beautification, the construction(to enviable standards!), the Mushin- Agege Motor Rd axis, The Ojuelegba-Ikate and Odo-Eran Roads, Roads in Mainland areas like Old Yaba Rd, Olonode, Simpson, e.t.c.
At a point, when he (Fashola) kicked against the unbridled corruption of Tinubu, who has made himself "an extortionist Mafia Boss" in Lagos, collecting "percentages" from LGA chairmen, cornering the Tax collection business using his proxy company (Alpha Beta), his monthly deductions from Lagos state budgetary allocations, and the list goes on.,.,.,.Tinubu began a massive bribery campaign and as we are all to familiar with the "power of corruption", he used money to incite the House Members to begin some fathom impeachment proceedings against the Governor!
Somehow, Fashola caved-in and "Olu-omo" continued on his frenzy of corruption and let Fashola be!

In 2011, ACN would have lost Lagos election.
Remember that PDP was the party to vote-against?
Tinubu reared his ugly head again and there was a time when "text messages" were being circulated on the Legislative elections. The AIM was to ensure that "Tinubu-sympathetic" Legislators who can be bought with money, were not voted-in the House! The end-game was to ensure that Tinubu's supporters are not in the majority within the Legislative Assembly.

Again, if we look at the undemocratic way Tinubu forced his family members down the throat of the party, one can understand why people will not vote ACN in the near future.
Why did the ACN-CPC alliance not win in Lagos state during the Presidential election, if the party was that popular in Lagos?

Point is, ACN won in Lagos Governorship election because Fashola was its candidate. People voted for Fashola, NOT ACN!
In like manner, PDP won in Lagos during the Presidential election because despite lagosian's dislike for PDP, THEY VOTED FOR JONATHAN! Not PDP!!

In short, his performance within 4yrs ensured that even if he "decamped to PDP", (or any other party for that matter), that party will win the Governorship seat of Lagos, as long as Fashola was their candidate.

So, in future9 2015), dont take it for granted that ACN will win Lagos, especially with the over-bearing influence of the so-called party leaders who are turning themselves into "Tin-gods" and "selecting their children and girl-friends" as party bearers.
With the way the party is being turned into a "family party" expect the Unexpected to happen come 2015.

Meanwhile, if Fashola should step-up his game and please the state as he has done in the last 4yrs, it could mean that people from other parts of the country would prefer him for a Presidential candidate, irrespective of the party he chose to spring from; As it is, Tinubu will not let ACN rests until he destroys that party. Just watch!!

Just my Take on issues.

The Bomber did not CRASH INTO the IGP's convoy (he/she was 3cars behind the IGP) because "he" wanted to cause "maximum damage"!
How, if he crashed into the convoy, he might have killed the IGP (50-50 probability) and a few officers, at the maximum.

But know the mentality of Nigerians (crowding, hero-worshiping, looking/staring at events! grin ), he was waiting to enter the IGP's H/Quarters with the attention that would "generate" and the crowd it will attract and then BOOM!

Luckily, he saw that he was just about to be detected and he had no choice than to go BOOM!.,, at that moment.

Now, this happening at the "center" of National Security, shows that the NATION has failed and those saddled with the "task of INTELLIGENCE GATHERING (NSA, SSS, in particular) have no clue, what their job means.

In simple terms, they are "Not Fit For Purpose". Why then do we continue to waste fund on such enterprise and its clueless occupants?
Does it take 100yrs to "know what is required and employ qualified people' for National Security?

The very idea of a "Pre-Nup" should never have arisen, if we had stuck to marriage, the way our parents "UNDERSTOOD AND STUCK" to it!
What do l mean?

As far as our grand Pas and grand Mas are concerned:

1) There is a "head" in the family: The Husband

2) Whether the man became poor mid-way, or rich, whether he was "Authoritarian" or not, whether he brings-in his family members into the household, whether he even married a second wife (while adequately providing for the first one) or whatever other reason women find these days to "use and dump", ITS ALWAYS TILL DEATH DO THEM PART!

3)Even when squabbles and real fights do occur, neither GrandPa nor GrandMa would ever (l mean in their wildest dream) use the Police to drive the husband out of the house or use the courts to take away the children (just to spite him) or make him a "slave for life" paying alimony while she brings another lover into the family home! Neither will GrandPa also head to court, to enforce his rights or insist "its over and its final"! (As undesirable as it is, one or two slaps with apologies and a good gift to follow, usually brings back the "peace and love" and everyone lived happily thereafter! wink At least, the marriage continues!)

4) Man, is "genetically promiscuous" (the one that is not today, is being hindered by "something" if you look closer enough! The those that spoke "directly with God", dont seem to b immune) but women are know to be virtuous, with all the respect that comes with it! In their days, it is rare for "a wife" to be doing "corner-betting" talk-less of bringing a "Yoruba lover" grin into the family home. (apologies to that Nigeria's Ambassador to Kenya!) Nowadays, it is a case of "Nothing spoil", what a man can do, a woman can even excel in it! wink

So, when a Husband and wife knows that come rain come shine, the "Palm Tree can only bend in stormy weather, it would NEVER BREAK of what use then is Pre-Nup agreement?

Back to the Present:
You only need to read the kind of "Advices" offered to fellow women even here on NL to rightfully conclude that ONLY A FOOLISH MAN (especially if you live in the Western countries) WILL NOT SIGN A PRE-NUP BEFORE MARRIAGE!

Okay, the Oyinbo people started it and l dont think they are that stupid! They know "whats'gwan" in marriage nowadays! wink

From my little understanding, The Pre-Nup simply "prevents one spouse from taking advantage of the other, in the event of a break-up (in our current climate of "greed arrogance and infidelity", probability is around 75%!)" and if it is "men" that are demanding A Pre-Nup in most cases, then it sure points to who has a tenancy to take advantage of who, in a marriage! Or put another way, "who is more fearful of being taken for a sucker"!

What is the percentage of women who are paying alimony?
What is the percentage of women who are paying child support?
What is the percentage of women who have "shared" the life savings and future earnings into two, to give to their ex-husband?

Okay, go figure! wink

Not minding the "cross-cheating" going on between the two of you, the bottom line is this:

BOTH OF YOU DONT HAVE A MARRIAGE ANYMORE!

The two basic ingredients of marriage is lost in that marriage: Trust and Mutual Respect

Come together and resolve how to take care of that kid in-between both of you.
You can have shared custody (50-50), kids spend about half his time in the company of both parents at different times and each contribute 50-50 to his upbringing.

Am still trying to figure-out how we can keep both conversations (Asiwaju matter and the Historical Oni Vs. Alaafin) going without muddling-up our "Train of Thoughts"!
Am loving the discourse and l thank all that are contributing; Wizardofoz, Kusamoto, Hercules07, naijababe, typia, OAM4J, et all.

Let me wade-in a little.
I am with the group that says we cannot judge and therefore "select" someone as Asiwaju of Yoruba based only on their "Political Brinksmanship"!
Politics itself as played in Nigeria, is a dirty game and the "dirtier you can play", the more successful you could get!

Thus, one would not be far-off the point to conclude that the seemingly successful politicians (in Nigeria's political space and standard) are people with very dirty character! Just name them; Saraki, Adedibu, Nzeribe, e.t.c

I will personally like someone with a Strong moral character, who can inspire our Youths to greatness
I would like someone whose life history, trajectory of academic pedigree, eloquence, ability to build bridges, Honesty, (as against a treasury looter or someone who came into office with one million and left the same office, 4yrs later, with $10Billion!), leadership ability that transpires into the development of their state or constituency, calmness of spirit, e.t.c such that at any point in time, he will "command" the respect of Non-Yorubas, by his sheer personality as against the use of force or coercion!

You will all agree that the choice of personality will reflect on the way and kind of respect Yorubas in general, will be accorded.
For example, till today, the kind of respect everyone has for Nelson Mandela, still rubs-off on all South Africans, till date, in the wider world.

Question therefore is: Does Bola Tinubu or Segun Obasanjo fit into the above criterion?

The "Historical exposition" of Yoruba history is quite interesting and educative. How l wish we could locate a special thread for it?
Its digressing and colliding with at least two, other interesting "ideas": The issue of "Asiwaju of Yoruba" and the issue of "Candidate Imposition" by Tinubu, in the ACN.

These are very important discussions and to keep jumping from one to the other, within the same thread, is enough to make a "real Monkey" to develop Migraine! grin
Yeah, l know about "multi-tasking" but l also know about "logical sorting"! wink

What do you guys think? Shouldn't they be separate/separated?

BTW: does it hold TRUE that:
1.)Because Ahmed Tinubu, using the ACN platform, assisted in defeating the PDP in the SouthWest (Put into context that PDP still won the Presidential elections in the same SW and Lagos in particular!), he can thus be absolved of all the "sins" leveled against him? And thus, suddenly qualify to become Asiwaju of ALL Yorubas?

2.)Using the same logic above, since OBJ assisted in "arresting" the Northern notion of political invincibility and born-to-rule mentality (no pun intended pls) within the North, does that mean he can thus be absolved of all his "sins" and thus suddenly be qualified to be ranked as Asiwaju of ALL Yorubas?

This is the crux of the matter
. Lets weigh-in civilly, please.
Thanx.

This "FOI" law don cause wahala, just after 24hrs!

I noticed that of recent, my Madam was coming home later than before and when l sought to know why (since dinner became later than usual), Madam got annoyed and kept mum!
I brought out my copy of Vanguard Newspaper and poke my fat finger at the front page for her attention: FOI Bill passed into law! grin
She looked at it and scuffed a little. Still no response!

I officially informed her that it is now unlawful (and therefore criminally liable) for her to deny me any information which is of public (family) interest.
She moved her head forward a wee-bit and looked at me curiously (like she has never set eyes on me before, what is all these?) and then blotted out rather sarcastically "Access denied" angry

I want to know why "Access is being denied" and all she could say was: for security reasons!
I ask which security is that since we dont have thieves around at the moment?

She took one long, sullen look at the ceiling and like one of those "Ministry officials", she said, "Okay, l would like to put my reply in writing and since you have not replaced the ink in our home Printer, l cannot print my reply either". Sort the Printer out first! shocked

I think l should be entitled to choose a verbal reply, in this minor case? Dont you think?
I am getting frustrated over this.

And when l was thinking that all hope was lost in geting a candid answer, she surprised me by saying l should also put my request in writing as she needed to file it for future reference! She added insult to injury by saying l should give her another seven days, before expecting a response

Wetin? Just simple question and all this grammar?

If this is how its going to look like with this FOI Bill, l guess l should have smilled and said "Dear, traffic must have been getting bad of recent, or was it too much office work that is making you arrive home late of recent"? I could have got my answer in simple pidgin!

Is it that you have to pay NEPA an "additional 1K/month" because you make use of 3-phase Meter, in addition to the credit you buy on your Pre-Paid meter? That is use or no-use, 1K/Month is for having a Three phase Meter installed

My father always tells me that it is worth it to get married back in his days but its never worth it to marry in this centurry and one should just consider being single for the rest of their life and focus more on building the economy. I think he is most definitely right
Get hooked with someone and get your heart broken once again? No way am I going down that road

I dont think Ill ever want to find love again. Im sorry. ive made up my mind to focus on my career and hire giggollo's when Im h0rny
. I dont want to start all over again and I dont want to go down that road anymore.
He didnt beg with mercy and I didnt beg with mercy either. No one did. We just had a conversation and we both started sobbing and than we started smooching and suddenly we are back together without saying it.
I like this part best, if you had listened to some vexed women on NL and their hatred for men, this would NEVER had happened!

So this breakup was only for 5days?! So much for a breakup!

Everyone has been dumped at one stage or another so l have no advice for anyone on that front, just deal with it!

What caught my attention was the “Progression of thought” as Ms. Potato went through the “motions”!

Everyone should go through some of her responses that l have compiled below, and see if you will see, what l am seeing.

The part l did not fancy is when you ridiculed blackmen, by saying “if she was with an Asian man or someone with a “white skin” like herself, she would not be heart-broken, bla-bla-bla! Maybe the “comeback lover” needs to read this part and know exactly where he stands? Ms. Potato prefers a “white-skin” and you’re Just a “blackman”

You speak so much like a Nigerian and you once refered to your “GarndMa/GrandDad as a Nigerian! Are you by any means suffering from a case of “identity crisis”! You know, like “white-outside” and “black-inside”? Take it easy o and discover yourself!
Cheers and goodluck with your “blackman” sweetheart!

At least, you’re one person who knows the value of a “Nigerian Man” unlike some “die-hard, heartbroken, men-haters”

@Outstrip
Why does she keep unlocking the door when he gets home? Don't they have those burglary proof things you put behind doors anymore? If you want to be nice you can throw a pillow over the fence.
First, your Neighbors will notice that you lock your husband out of the house! Then your children will notice too!!

Then, hopefully one day, he will get murdered for the "Nice Wristwatch" or Italian Shoe the drunkard was wearing grin

Guess who everyone will be calling a Murderer? wink wink tongue

BTW: I think the suggestion of "Taking his picture" and showing him when he is sober will work wonders! grin
Dont do it to denigrate him, just show him privately and ask him "if this is how he likes to be remembered"?
If he is a decent person and even more importantly, IF HE VALUES YOU, he will kick the habit himself otherwise, he is a lost cause!

Believe me, l am speaking from an experience of over two decades ago grin grin

Peeps, Lets even forget about Tariff increase or 24/7 argument for NOW.

GET US THE DARN PRE-PAY METER FIRST AND THEN DO WHATEVER YOU LIKE AFTERWARDS! angry angry angry

Or are these shameless investors and the crooked Government accomplices, afraid of their own "Pre-Pay" Meter?

@dayokanu
What stops a woman from claiming you violated her or beat her up anytime she wants to
NOTHING! grin grin

And who do you think the "authorities" (especially if you are a black/brown man living in the WEST) will believe?

HER OF COURSE! wink wink

With all the wide-spread, concocted image of a black man as a "savage and brutish animal" that is only fit for PRISON!

Again, is there a better and faster way to destroy a family, the children and their future, THAN TO DESTROY THE FATHER OF THE HOUSE FIRST?

Of course, with the "help" of the so-called wife
huh huh

So sad, "some" women think this is what "freedom and women rights" entail? Can someone tell them that these "struggles" have far reaching implications for all of us, if only they can peep into the future. But then, "greed and selfishness" does not allow one to reason that way.

Hmmmm, Na Today?
Imagine the amount of aspersion, even "so-called men" have cast on this Ambassador, without even giving him a chance to explain what happened?

Men will wise-up eventually and stop acting "Macho and Swagger" while women ruin their lives!

Someone asked why he invited her to enjoy his second Ambassadorial Posting?
Answer: Like most men, HE IS TOO DUMB AND PUS.SY-WHIPPED!

For such men, only a Tragic end awaits them, by then, it may be too late.

I feel for the children involved!

BTW: One day, someone will investigate and research the kind of "Violent Abuse" Nigerian men living Abroad, experience from (most) their Nigerian wives who in most cases before being brought abroad, ARE NOTHING, complete zilch! Bring them abroad an they think you have surrendered your dignity to them and the "State Police and court system" is a tool in their hands,.,,

NAIRALAND, This site is becoming irrelevant, or maybe the moderators are 3rd class product from almajiris's university
Its actually a shame, knowing what resources and effort the owner of this website puts into keeping it alive and then seeing it populated by riff-raffs, simpletons and people of below-average mentality!

I hope we can put this kind of resource to more better use than all this mundane and unproductive issues
