Politics › Re: Buhari To Ojukwu’s Mother In A 1984 Cartoon by lastpage: 7:28am On Jan 11, 2016
beamed:
After 13 years in exile, the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari granted an official pardon to Odumegwu-Ojukwu and opened the road for a triumphant return in 1982. The people of Nnewi gave him the now very famous chieftaincy title of Ikemba (Strength of the Nation, while the entire Igbo nation took to calling him Dikedioramma ("beloved hero of the masses"wink during his living arrangement in his family home in Nnewi, Anambra. His foray into politics was disappointing to many, who wanted him to stay above the fray. The ruling party, NPN, rigged him out of the senate seat, which was purportedly lost to a relatively little known state commissioner in then Governor Jim Nwobodo's cabinet called Dr. Edwin Onwudiwe. The second Republic was truncated on 31 December 1983 by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, supported by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and Brigadier Sani Abacha. The junta proceeded to arrest and to keep Ojukwu in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, Lagos, alongside most prominent politicians of that era. Having never been charged with any crimes, he was unconditionally released from detention on 1 October 1984, alongside 249 other politicians of that era—former Ministers Adamu Ciroma and Maitama Sule were also on that batch of released politicians. In ordering his release, the Head of State, General Buhari said inter alia: "While we will not hesitate to send those found with cases to answer before the special military tribunal, no person will be kept in detention a-day longer than necessary if investigations have not so far incriminated him." (WEST AFRICA, 8 October 1984)
So, even HISTORY CONFIRMS that President M. Buhari is a man whose words can be "banked upon"!

Buhari may not be perfect (and l am yet to see any human or Nigerian for that matter, whose is anywhere near perfection!) but he has the moral advantage of not being a LOOTER or an abettor of Looters.

Nigerians will stay solidly behind him, while he injects some sanity into the system.
The next Government can probe his own Govt and jail him, if he is found to be corrupt.
Until then, even #Wailers should "receive sense"

Dear Bunmi,

I’ve been married to my husband for over 20 years and
we have four lovely children. He’s always had series of
affairs that I’ve lost count. I’ve stopped talking to him
about them and when friends did, he told them smugly
that he must be doing something right or I would have
left.

He says his affairs are really for the sex and he would
never leave me for another woman. Big deal!

I’m quite an attractive woman myself and still wear a
size 14 dress. I have a good job and dress well and
recently I started looking at other men the way my
husband might look at other women and wondered
what it would be like to have sex with them. You know
what?

My husband was right, you can have good sex without
getting emotionally involved as I’ve since found out. I
don’t know if he suspects anything, but lately he’s
been showing signs of being jealous, why should he
have all the fun?

It is good that you agree that the state cannot force a statement out of a detained accused. That is what the EFCC is alleged to be doing now.

Silence during trial is risky and only good if the case is obviously flawed, but it's still a right and the Judge can acquit you if the crime against you cannot be proved despite ur silence.

If you idea of investigation is torture of an accused, then you need to learn more about. The voluntary nature of a statement is foundational. You haven't disproved what fayose is alleging and you don't have access to information more than him. If you have a different claim, present it and quit being ad hominem.
I can see how well you speak the English language.

What are you talking about? Right path?

For crying out loud, Ojukwu wasn't even part of the government that Buhari outstaged in a coup - which was Shagari's government by the way - so what formed the basis of Ojukwu's arrest?? Corruption??

When you undertake a wholistic study of Nigeria's political history; you will find yourself a better commentator on Nairaland!!
Shattap Please!
Ojukwu was a Civilian Governor/Senator of the federal Republic under that Shagari regime.
Most Politicians in that setting, having been compromised and very corrupt, got "reset" by Buhari, when he took over....including Ojukwu!

But the corrupt politicians "fought back" gallantly, using IBB to truncate Buhari's regime which was setting Nigeria back on the right path.

Come to 2015, Buhari is doing the same thing and l worry that the looters and corrupt politicians are fighting back and would do everything to make sure they frustrate Buhari's Govt.

But POWER lies with the masses.
Will we Nigerian masses, let-down this Govt or will we rise above ethnic and tribal/religious divide, t lay a good foundation for our future?
The decision lies with each one of us

I get your point, however like BRF always say, everyone is welcome to the the church, but not everyone is welcome on the pulpit.

The APC leaders have a fair idea of the objective of people defecting lately to APC from the SE. They know an average SE politician always align with whoever is in power at the center.
Well, in line with your post, the problem comes when these same set of "diabolical defectors" (after benefiting from their former party) start asking to be given 'choice positions' over the "indigenous" members.
I have seen in the past when people defected from PDP into APC, (claiming they did so with 100Million followers) and therefore should be given the party ticket for a Senatorial Seat!
Those who were with the party all the while felt cheated and resisted the move.... causing disaffection within party members to the point that they started working against the interest of the party.... and the party lost out to their opposition.

I think if these "political prostitutes" are made to understand that if you decamp, you have to bid your time for at least four years, to be entitled for nomination", then the issue of decampment will be less and based more on "moral grounds"...

.... as against the current "cake sharing" mentality that is the motive for defection.
Even Mr. Nwobodo agreed as much to that mentality!
I just dont like people who "STAND FOR NOTHING".

Funny.
I don't think you can educate me more than I have been educated Cos you have no stuffs in ur statement above.
The right to silence is a constitutional right which is in two parts. the constitution section 35 sub 2 deals with it during and after arrest all thru the period of police custody. statement at the police station is discretionary and not a mandatory practice. forget what the police here do. You can keep silent all thru if you think it's not needed to give evidence because the police/prosecutor has all the burden to prove it's case against you and you.
Now section 36 sub 11 has to do with silence during the trial. it mean that the accuses can keep silence during trial. He can decide not to call a witness. and he is not compellable but competent to give evidence at trial.
While silence during plea taking will amount to a plea of not guilty recorded for u.
Mr Metuh is in custody. He has a right to keep silence and not be forced to make any statement what so ever. The EFCC has the burden to prove it's case and not force out evidence from an accused.
You are still VERY CONFUSED! grin grin

*I never said the Police should/can force you to write a statement.... l only said they can detain you until you make your statement! shocked
Both seem similar and obvious but are actually different things.
Getting a statement off the accused is a process which precedes arrangement in court. Its part of the "preliminary investigation" the Police do, before putting a case before a Judge!
But the accused can refuse to write a statement,... and the Police can "keep investigating" him while in detention, .....until they get a written statement!
Cunny-man die, Cunny-man bury am! undecided

*True, 'Silence during trial' means a plea of "Not guilty" is taken against you by default ....... but that is just "A Plea".
The Judge will still go on with the trial and convict you, despite your silence, since you are already accused (Thats why l said your silence can be interpreted as "acceptance of guilt" in law (Not 'pleading guilty' .........as the two are 'procedurally' different)

*Olisah Metuh is not been forced to write a statement as you people are #Wailing.
He is under investigation (prior to been arraigned in court), writing a statement is part of that investigation and the Police are at Liberty to "continue to investigate him" till he writes his statement! grin grin
Cunny-man die, Cunny-man bury am!

Remember when you people said Nnamdi Kanu or Dasuki cannot be re-arrested because a court has ordered their release?

Well, we told you to "calm down" ...........because Prosecutors are also getting smarter, under this Government of "Zero tolerance for Corruption"!
Now, the "desired" is being achieved,.... without flouting a court order! grin grin
Cunny-man die, Cunny-man bury am!

Politics › Re: Jim Nwobodo Dumps PDP For APC by lastpage: 8:24am On Jan 09, 2016
sayyid:
A former minister of information, and governor of the old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, on Friday defected to the All Progressive Congress.

There were indications that the former PDP bigwigs’ defection did not go down well with the some APC members, who openly voiced their dissatisfaction with the development at the meeting.

Nwobodo condemned the PDP, and blamed the party’s leadership for allowing five governors to leave for the APC in the build up to the 2015 general elections.
According to him, he is joining the APC to move the people of Enugu State into the mainstream at the federal level.
Drawing from his experience as a governor, he said it was not good being in the opposition.

“I told our former chairman, how come did we allow five governors to leave the party?
“I am not looking for a job, I am talking because I want peace.
“I want our people to be part of the Federal Government at the centre.
“I had a problem being an opposition governor.

“I am not coming into APC because I want anything.
“I want our people to be reintegrated and have our own share of the Federal Government resources,” Nwobodo said.
Nwobodo recalled that while he was in PDP, his wife had always been an active member of the APC.
He pointed out that the slogan “change” did not start now with the APC.
According to him, it started in 1983, when he was an opposition governor.
www.punchng.com/breaking-jim-nwobodo-dumps-pdp-defects-to-apc/
I think if APC knows what is good for it... and if it does not want to become another PDP, it should impose a moratorium of 4years before any PDP member can decamp to it.
I also think some of these "Decamping Politicians" are "planting themselves" in APC so as to destroy the Party come 2019...this Nwobodo is acting out a script .......and l hope Buhari, Tinubu and other Pillars of APC will not fall for this scam

These Politicians like Nwobodo are no better than prostitutes and Criminals!

They use the excuse of "my people" to decamp when in actual fact, all they want is to remain in Power at all cost, so as to keep enjoying the benefit of power.
Whether Enugu is governed by APC or PDP does not really matter that much ...(afterall, Lagos was governed by the opposition for 16years and it keeps getting better!)...what matters is having a Governor who has the interest of his people/State at heart, has the "Cranial Capacity" to move the state forward (like Fashola) and is not a "natural kleptomaniac" like Dasuki/Dokpesi/Dezzianni (all starts with "letter D"wink.

These thieves are leaving PDP and flocking to APC in droves!
APC, dont accept these criminals otherwise, just like PDP, the masses of this country will vote you out in 2019.

KOWA party and other fringe parties should please "warm up", it seems their luck are about to shine.

Finally, if ANYONE thinks Nigerians are foolish when it comes to voting..... they should go and ask PDP

And how long does it take to write statement in saner clime? #justasking
I am sure that you have written a Police Statement before.... as in l am sure of at least one occasion so l know you know that the first thing to write is your "personal details" like Name, Age, Address, e.t.c.

Now, an aggregation of "letters" forms a word... an an aggregation of at least two words, forms a sentence.

So, the length of time an accuse uses to write/his or her statement, depends on how many words they want to write in such statement!
The minimum being to write just two words...........the maximum being how much Paper the Cops can provide for you! grin grin

In "saner climes", they would probably buy a RIM OF A4 paper and put it at your disposal.... hoping you will finish writing in a few weeks (while still detained ofcourse! undecided )

In less friendly climes, the "Oooh-Cee" would probably "reset and reformat" your brain with a few slaps or ask you to provide money to buy you enough paper to continue to write your "Novel" of a statement! shocked shocked
Eventually, ....one day, you will surely finish "writing your statement" sha, while still in detention
grin grin

Now that your statement have been taken...... you feel like "going home", right? huh huh

Now, depending on your "alleged" crime, you may be allowed to go home immediately (Bail on self recognition), you may need your Lawyer to "post bail" for you, you may need to be presented before a Judge (at the earliest possible time) to decide on your bail and bail conditions or you may be REFUSED BAIL and remanded in custody till the next proper hearing.
People in this country need toproperly educate themselves about "basic things" as it concerns their rights, responsibility and obligations vis-a-vis the LAW

Now you know! #JustExplaining

Where did u learn your own?
where is the accused right to silence?
you people are forgetting your fundamental rights just 8 months into baba's assumption. we still have 3 years and to go o.
You are CONFUSED!

"Accused Right to silence" means "the accused has the right to remain silent ....UNTIL he/she has their LAWYER/LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE PRESENT".

Once your Lawyer is present (to advice you on what to say), you are then obliged to SAY/WRITE based on his "legal advice".

Note: Your Lawyer CANNOT even sit with you or write your statement for you....... but he can advice you BEFORE/AFTER you have made your statement.

Finally, imagine if every accused decides to "REMAIN SILENT FOREVER" (assuming that was to be the intent of that 'right to remain silent'), do you think that will stop a Judge from imposing sentence, ...just because the accused decided to remain mute?
grin grin
The "law" made these provisions to protect an 'accused' but it is also aware that some accused may try to "abuse it" in order to pervert the course of the law!

Imagine this level of treachery and sabotageto ones country at such a critical period. The earlier we understand that the fight against corruption begins with us the better.

Sadly, the locals and law enforcement agents knows about this but are just keeping mum cos of the financial benefits to them.
You see, those who said "If we dont kill CORRUPTION, ....CORRUPTION will eventually kill Nigeria"... are very correct.

The level of decay, corruption and treachery in our national life, is beyond understanding.

It is in Nigeria that people suffer because of corruption and yet, the same people support and protect those corrupt people that enslave them.

Truly, this generation IS LOST!
