HealthRe: Customs Seizes Container Of Soup From China Worth N27.96 Million In Lagos by lorhema(f):
During the Civil War, we ate rations sometimes: Jollof rice and egusi soup. They were in tins.

Now we are at war with Boko Haram. Is it possible that these canned Nigerian meals were imported by contractors for the Nigerian Army's use?

What became of the consignment from India that was seized?

Exactly. They'll need more psychiatric homes and specialists when the result of this step kicks in. The decline of Western civilization is truly on course.

I'm not a big fan of "ensuite" in family homes since it just increases toilet count. I grew up in two houses that did not have ensuite, and so don't really see a need as an adult... I just see it as hassle because now we've got to pay for, clean, and maintain more toilets and bathrooms than needed.
...
I feel the same. I like larger rooms and spacious bathrooms, and family interaction as we use the bathrooms.

Nigerians don’t even know that this is a nocturnal bird, it flies mostly at night, nollywood keep messing with our people. I’m sure someone among them is going to give a testimony in church on Sunday of how they killed the witch that has been terrorizing them. Poor people always fighting spiritual battles
It goes beyond Nollywood.

In the traditional beliefs of some of the southerners, the owl is seen as a witch bird.

I remember watching a man running after an owl one evening in the late 70s. It was seated on a fence pole under a streetlight in a Shell compound. As he ran towards it, throwing stones at it, he was shouting the word in his language for 'witch'.

The bird eventually flew away, passing over him. It was bigger than the one shown here. The man continued to swear at it even though it was gone.

brodalikeme:
Remove the top of the burner, the part where the flames comes from, you will see the gas jet with a very small hole where the gas passes through. Use a safety pin to poke the clog that is blocking the flow of the gas. You should move the pin up and down the jet until it is clear.

You may use spirit to help in desolating the clog but MAKE SURE IT IS DRIED WITH TISSUE PAPER BECAUSE IT IS HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE BEFORE LIGHTING THE GAS COOKER.
Thanks

My landlord decided to impose dislodging the soak away on only his tenants. He says that is how it is done everywhere. He says he will not contribute any amount because he does not live here with us. Is it right? Please help with proof. Thanks
. As tenants in a 5-flat building at Yaba, we were all responsible for getting the soakaway evacuated. We had no agreement with our landlord but two of us were estate agents and we did what they advised. We were all long-term tenants -12 to 28 years.
AgricultureRe: Goat Farming In Nigeria – How To Start And Earn Big While At It! by lorhema(f): 11:46am On Sep 11, 2018
Sparkle777:
I hope intending goat farmers will consider their neighbours and own a plot bf starting in other to forestall what am passing thru. My neighbours just leave their goats to be messing up the areas, eating up my crops and generally being a menace to everyone.
How can I stop them smelly goats from always staying around my house even in the night??
We had a similar experience. Although our neighbour's goats couldn't get into our yard, they ate the hedge by our fence till it looked horrible. All members of the family took to chasing them away but you couldn't be outside all day. Our neighbour let them out in the morning and they returned home in the evening!

Our salvation came when thieves in keke began to come around and take their goats. On one occasion, they took two even while people were passing by. The losses put an end to the free range goat farm. All the hedges on our street have recovered from the 2+years of damage.

Perhaps you should pray for something that will cause them to keep their goats to themselves.

TravelRe: Safe Ways To Find Directions To Any Location by lorhema(f): 12:13pm On Aug 15, 2018
Mynd44:
False.

I have been doing this for the last 10 years. The trick is to be polite as it tends to knock them out.

Greet them, don't touch them or tap then to get attention, let your voice do that and don't grumble, use "please sir, I am going to xyz and I seem to have lost my way"

A lot of Nigerians are rude; very rude, you want to ask for directions yet will be botherline aggressive or maybe we just don't know how to be polite again.
I don't think Nigerians are rude. I find Lagosians rude. Have been observing them and guess it's linked to to aggression they live with daily.
TravelArik Is A Disappointment by lorhema(op):
A week ago we booked to fly Jos -Lagos with Arik. It's the only airline that flies the route and usually has one flight a day.

The flight was billed for 4.55pm. At 2p.m., just as we were setting off for the airport, we received a text saying our flight would not operate due to Operational Requirements
'. Can you imagine?
Truly Arik can't come back. It's finished.

I thank God we hadn't gone to the airport and sat there waiting for a cancelled flight
They said we should call the call centre. I hear. Tomorrow we shall be at the airport to board the available flight.

Nigeria is all over the news for drug peddling, scams, fraud, human trafficking, terrorism and the rest.

I understand how you feel. But put yourself in the man's shoes too. He was just trying to play safe.
The fact is that Nigerians have earned a very bad name in India in the last decade. You can't blame some Indians for avoiding us. There's a lot of crime by our folks in their country and it's reported widely so wise people would want to stay away, especially when they meet us online.
FamilyRe: "My Husband's Pride Wants To Ruin Our Home" The True Story by lorhema(f): 2:14pm On Aug 07, 2018
Rocktation:
This your true story reinstates your wife's version. You really do have pride for Africa. 10 bucks says you really would've kicked her to the curb, if the property wasn't in her name. Your vexation is too much. You want to Transfer and Separate at the same time...only you.. and for what? Because her retort hurt your pride, when you think your asking her to leave her marital home, is like bird humming in summer, abi? Calm down, Sir, collect yourself. Forget all those quotations from God knows who, insinuating that women maketh a home, solely. Both partners are accountable for whatever goes on. Be a good husband now and be really open for peace. Persuade your wife to include your name in the documents, which is more than fair, as your money was not used and NEVER make such disparaging requests again like asking your wife to leave your house, ever again...no matter how ticklish your funny bone gets.
Thank you, sis. Hope he listens.

jidestroud:
Well, from my knowledge of Ugu planting, it could be grown both as perennial or annual plant depending on how you treat it.

Nevertheless, the cutting of your ugu after you have cut from the next available leaf, really has no effect on the lifespan of your ugu. All you need to do is make sure you irrigate it steadily, apply manure from time to time and take are of pest and diseases.

I do have an Ugu plant in the second year running now. grin
Thanks for these tips. I'll adopt them so my ugu can serve me longer.

This is Nigeria.....

No maintenance culture.
The poor masses are more wicked than the elites.

Come to my area and see how they keep destroying borehole that was built by a serving State House Member.
Even Transformers are destroyed on daily bases.
It's Appalling.

People are so wicked and heartless, especially the very poor ones.
I wonder why they destroy these things. Could it be because they are angry with the class that install /provide them? They might vandalize the fences because they don't want to use the pedestrian bridges but why would they destroy transformers and boreholes.

Or do the area boys have to be 'settled' so the installations can be used for the purpose for which they were provided?
FamilyRe: Funny Accusation From Extended Family Members by lorhema(f): 3:14pm On Jul 22, 2018
QuotaSystem:
Mehn this topic touched home. Coincidentally I've got one uncle that's been complaining I don't call. He's quite comfortable though retired so I know it's not for financial assistance, but my grouse had always been that he hardly ever called while we were younger, and all this extra-chumminess only started since he retired.

I gave it a thought and decided to call him, at least to greet and update him about developments in my life, the joy in his voice melted my heart. He simply didn't want the call to end; he told me he was aware of the developments as my dad had been giving him frequent updates. We joked, laughed, he congratulated me (recently got a new job) and prayed for further success for me. He ended by saying I made his day with that call shocked

Call ended, was billed just N54, and was almost moved to tears & still amazed at how I brightened the day of an old uncle with just N54.

God bless you OP for this topic, and I admonish us to give that call a try. It could mean the world to that loved one.
Lovely. You have a big heart.

Some people are too busy to care about maintaining relationships and forget that they'll, one day, be forced to slow down because of the process of aging. That period can be a lonely time for elderly people. But people who have pursued relationships with younger members of the family have them calling or popping in from time to time.

Thank you for forgiving and cheering your uncle up.

I am confused as to why you are begging him.

You both got paid from a business
He used his own share for his parents, you used your own to build a house now he got angry and decided to kick you out of your own house, you told him it wasn't possible.

He gets angry and moves out
Let him stay out, he is a wicked man that would have been happy to see you out on the streets with your kids begging him up and down.

I don't understand why you are now begging him.

I don't know why Nigerian women are so desperate to keep wicked men
Thank you. Imagine what would have happened if the house was in his name. I think you should keep calm and let things cool down. It takes two to have a relationship. But have it in mind that you might have to join him in a rented apartment when everything cools. At that time, you should rent the house out.
