To be frankly honest...I never believed that Yorubas could be this dumb and foolish
Little Wonder Instead of them to recover the land that the Fulani army took from them by force(chasing the Oyo Empire to their present place)..they are so bothered abt Benin that doesn't want them

I said that if similarities in language is ur basis to claim that Oba of Benin is related to Ife..then there is high chance of the oba Being related to esan rather than ife...if u cant understand..I'm so sorry for u

There still remains no proof that Oba of Benin is related to Ife and similarities in language is not, sorry, can never be a basis to make that claim...

Hope u get and bring eyewitness reports
Thanks

I already showed you that even your translation defeats your own argument.
Clearly Eko was not named by Bini and only an isolated land towards the lagoon was ever controlled by Bini

Wtf77:
Just to recap, here is the fake translation of macof coupled with foul language and all sorts of lies:

Here is the actual translation:

"Captain Horsley called it Eco, and that is how the yebous refer to it; but it is not their land: it belongs to Benin, whom have named it Korame, you can recognise the Curamo from older Portuguese reports, just like Eko represents the Ichoo from Holland Hydrographs. Long ago Korame was linked to its metropolis by a very narrow piece of land contained between the great Laguna and the sea; but it has been a while since the Yebous have seazed that very narrow peace of land of which the eastern extremity was invaded by ouyo pirates; and Karamé remained isolated at the extremity of the great Laguna, while it continues to receive from Benin it's governor or political chief."
Small boy you have nothing valuable to argue

grin

Mumu is talking about eyewitness report grin the traditions left by those who witnessed it is there for you. Why not provide eye witness account of ekaladaran's migration to Ife?
Funny how ekaladaran was supposed to have ran away from igodomigodo and reached Ife all alone but Bini youths of 2020 wants us to believe that they know the story of his journey to ife. Who witnessed it? Since you only deal with eye witnesses

Yari.ba peeps always think that everybody is gullible and tend to throw craps around. If "Eko (Ereko) means field in Yoruba", where other places the Ijebu called Eko beside Lagos? Where there no other fields in Ijebu land?
.
Lmao grin OK. To answer your question..

One of the biggest streets, probably the biggest in Idumota quarters of Lagos is Ereko Street. There is also the Ọjà Ereko in Lagos.
Outside Lagos State, there is Ereko in Ijebu Ode and Ibafo

Please note that the term "Lagos" refers to
I. A state
II. A metropolitan city within the state that has kept expanding
III. A part of the city on the Island traditionally called Ereko.
All 3 are called Eko or Lagos

So when I say just "Lagos" I'm not talking about the state or modern metropolitan area.

See screenshot below of the districts within the initial boundary of the City in the 19th century before all this modern Lagos State expansion
-----

I can ask you same question.

If Èkó means Camp and was named by Bini, why are there no other places named by the Bini called Eko?
Don't forget that one of the European texts shared on this thread mentioned clearly that Bini do not call Lagos Eko but Kurame

Etinosa1234:
For u to say that means u didn't really understand Benin history
Benin historians say that the banished prince, Ekaladerhan went to Ife...where a prophecy had been made that their king will come from the bush. When Ekaladerhan came, he was later crowned according to the prophecy and renamed Oduduwa. Then when the Benin throne was empty as a result of the inability of the Former ogiso to produce a successor, Benin chiefs went to Ekaladerhan now Oduduwa for help. Due to the fact that Oduduwa was too old and couldn't come back to rule, he sent one of his sons Oranmiyan to be the new leader...Then Oranmiyan gave birth to the first oba, Oba Eweka.

At the last bolded, there is no single eyewitness reports about the origin of the first Oba, and many other tribes lay claim to being the origin. So therefore any historian that claim to dismiss Bini claims would have also dismissed the Yorubas claim as the Yoruba demselves have no proof abt it...Jus folktales like the Benin also
That is a mere narrative that has no backing in even Bini tradition. You miscreants always need me to repeat myself because you yourselves do nothing but repeat the same thing over and over again

1. If ekaladaran is oduduwa, who changed his name to Izoduwa or Imadoduwa, why do you call him Ododuwa. Everywhere in Bini he is only known as Ododuwa not ekaladaran not imadoduwa not izoduwa. There is even a festival in honor of the oba's ancestors and the beginning of the Obaship era called Ugie Ododua not Ugie Ogiso grin

2. Why two names? You people can't even settle which lie you want to tell so you bring out two names.. Either Imadoduwa or Izoduwa. Just look at the discrepancy here alone

3. Oduduwa or in Bini - Ododuwa is referred to as Ododuwa n'uhe (oduduwa of ife) not ekaladaran of igodomigodo.. Never is there any praise to oduduwa or reference to the oba of Benin as a descendant of oduduwa which incorporates "igodomigodo" or "ogiso"

4. Talking about praise.. Here is the praise names of the oba of Benin
macof:
:
Ovbi' Umogun Oza

Ovbi' Ada, Ovbi' Eben
The child of the owner of the Ada =

symbol of sovereignty.

Ovbi'Ekenekene ma deyo

Ovbi' Akpogunla, ogie no y'igho b'owa
The child of the womb of Akpogunla - the
warrior who fought big wars and built a
house of cowries

Oba n'osa
A king that is god

Ovbi' otolo n'olomi; Ologberonmwon nei rie iruen, ebo, ayemwinre eminiminimini
The son of the water controller, the son
of beauty itself, the starter of things and
the person whose reign saw people with
many tongues
I highlighted in bold the few that connect the oba to Yorùbáland/Ife/Oduduwa.
Nothing here suggests a connection to igodomigodo/ ekaladaran/ogiso

5. Traditionally, ọba of Bini has to honor the Ekiokpagha treaty that ceremonially transfers authority from the Ogiamien to the Ọmọnọba. Oba Ewedo even after defeating the Ogiamien had to pay for rights to enter the city and every new Ọmọnọba traditional has to honor the right of indigene that the Ogiamien has which the Ọba of Bini does not.

Because you are a notary or authorised translating firm?

Even your translation says "and Karamé remained isolated at the extremity of the great Laguna, while it continues to receive from Benin it's governor or political chief."

The Ife palace say that Oba of Benin is a Yoruba man

There are two sides of a story...but u chose to believe the Yoruba part because..its what suit ur ego..

now... I want u to prove to me how the first oba conquered Benin from reputable historian
Tell me the year and how it happened
Both Ife and Bini say the oba of Benin is of yoruba origin
It is where oduduwa comes from that the disagreement begins

It is not taking what suits ego. Its taking in what the evidence and traditional records suggest

Even in Bini traditions, oduduwa is not said to be of igodomigodo origin. It is only recently that narratives of such have been spreading online, narratives that have no confirmation with the traditions of Bini or anywhere. Historians know this, and no single historian takes that nonsense Bini claim seriously

"Korame (Lagos) was formerly larger, included a metropolis between the Great lagoon and the sea but for a long time the Yebous (Ijebu) seized this area"

I didn't skip the important part, I can't translate the whole text to you slowpoke. I actually translated the important parts

The text says the land that belongs to Benin is the extreme end towards the lagoon
"Et Korame est restee isolee au bout de la grande lagune" . What we call Enuwa in Lagos to distinguish it from the rest of Lagos. Nobody is dragging enuwa
But your text clearly states that Lagos is owned by people who identified themselves to the Europeans as Ijebu and Oyo leaving the isolated wasteland at the edge of land to Benin

1). A hereditary monarchy is a monarchy in which the only person who can take over from the king is from the same family as the king.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KV5w143PCaY

Only 1 ruling family

2). The writer of the book which you posted is writing about the Yoruba and obviously by "Yoruba obbas" he means the Oba who rules over the yorubas. That doesn't imply the Oba is a Yoruba, nor that he only rules the Yoruba. Actually since your ooni and your alafin are not hereditary crowns, they are not Oba !
The Oba is the Oba of Benin, that is hereditary ! Also the writer writes about local semi autonomous chiefs and those are the only ones whom he claims are not hereditary. Therefore your ooni and alafin fall in that category ! Your ooni and alafin are not kings but local semi autonomous chiefs !

3). In no way, is oyo called " oyo empire" in the book.
Actually I believe the term used is "yarib.bah", no empire !

4). I see in the translation, you skipped some key sentences on purpose. A fuller translation is this:
"The opinion of Obi Ourano, our friend, is that the protection of the Oba of Benin will be powerful enough to defend us in jebu and yarrib.ba. In borgu and haoussa however, it is not certain because the Oba of Benin is not known well enough in those areas (Borgu and haoussa) for them to fear his retribution."

This implies, jebou and yarrib.ba do fear the retribution of the Oba of Benin ! That is the authority the Oba of Benin has over Jebu and yarrib.ba.

https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k5806879x/f13.image.r=Oba

Oh, I see why a revisionist would skip such an important sentence. But don't blame yourself, your ancestors were slaves after all.
1. A hereditary monarchy is one that the monarch's claim to the throne is through lineage
Simple as that. As I said, belonging to a royal family by descent from a royal ancestor.

Simple English. Only a fool would not be able to comprehend this.. And as I've said many times, you are exactly one.

2. The text says "Yoruba Obbas" meaning 1. multiple persons 2. Said persons are Yoruba

If a someone says African heads of state, it means multiple persons, who are African
If someone says Yoruba Obas it means multiple persons, who are Yoruba.

You are just too daft and would argue anything grin
Underdeveloped brain. I have to spell everything out to you like a 2 year old

3. "Yarribah" anywhere in pre colonial texts refers to the Oyo controlled territory which was an Empire. "Eyeo" refers to Oyo alone, but "Yarribah" refers to all territories under the King of Oyo, incorporating many non Oyo towns and cities. Reasons the two major sovereign Yoruba states frequently mentioned in contact with Europeans are Jebou (Ijebu Kingdom) and Yarribah (Oyo empire) with its large capital at Katunga (Oyo-ile) which had 7 daily markets.. What a commercially struggling city like Benin city could not dare manage

The texts I will upload below
i. an English expedition to West Africa in 1841 commissioned by the House of commons. It mentions that many towns and cities extending to the coast were under the authority of the King of Yarribah.
Oyo kingdom was not close to the coast, it was up north next to Borgu, if it had control over coastal towns.. What does that tell you? It tells any sane human being that this was an empire
But I know you are not sane
ii. A publication by John Leyden (1799). Here it is clear that Eyeo (Oyo) was an imperialist power, that the King of Ardra begged for assistance against Dahomey. And Eyeo ended up adding both Ardra and Dahomey to its empire giving Dahomey strict warnings that only Eyeo (itself) can touch Ardra
-------

4. How does diplomatic caution against conflict equate authority? If Japan sends delegates to China, China would grant the delegates safe stay because they fear retribution.. How does that mean Japan is under China.

You Bini youth are so pathetically illiterate and daft. I see many of you online oblivious of the most basic facts

Very simple diplomacy is what you can't comprehend?
Who cursed you people with stupidity like this?

2) alafin

Obviously the writer is not referring to your ooni nor your alafin.

Each town has its semi autonomous chief: that sounds like your ooni of ife, s demi autonomous chief !

By the way, this text also shows that the Oba of Benin had authority over the Yoruba and the jebu. Thanks for motivating me to dig this paper out ! I had been focussing on precolonial maps alone while there are also a lot of precolonial texts as well.

You still in a response to the text ask for a text from the era calling Yoruba by the title Ọba

Smh. You better go and take your medication.

Lmao. This text

Doesn't in any way imply Yorùbáland being under the authority of the Ọmọnọba of Benin
"la Protection de l'oba d'oueni serait assez puisannte pour nous defendre dans le Yebou et le Yarribah"
"the protection of the Ọmọnọba of Benin should be powerful enough to defend us in Ijebu and Oyo empire"

Meaning that it is expected to be safe in a foreign country when under the protection of a known king of a neighbouring kingdom.
In contrast "dans le Borghou et le Haoussa, e'etait moins sur, le roi de Benin n'y etant point assez connu our.."
"the Ọmọnọba is not known well enough in Borgu or Hausa country to receive such protection"

The text has nothing to do with authority but rather diplomacy

And this www.nairaland.com/attachments/12005795_screenshot20200727005832_jpegbba6bd35f239ebc3abae763b01870c34 talks about the chief of Gato (Ughoton) and Omonoba of benin hosting a certain Adam, a trader by giving him security from Benin to Ughoton

Wow.
Actually I proved that the title Oba is from Benin and was copied by the Yoruba in the 1930's.
You are in the business of propagating falsehood. I prefer rather proving things which I claim.
And you are a revisionist.
You clearly know nothing about history.
I dare you to show a picture or text dated to the 1890's in which any Yoruba is described by the word "Oba".
Proved? You are indeed a fool

Ceaseless displays of ignorance and childishness screaming the same thing over and over again with a hundred monikers is not "proof"

The title has been Oba for as long as can be testified for.

Fvcking slowpoke, I am not entering this nonsensical debate of "what is the meaning". Rather you should ask yourself when your first Yoruba dictionary was written. That will tell you your "meaning" question makes no sense.
I see you are calling your yoruba trolls to come and help you troll.
Look, you guys are pathetic.
Trying so hard to deny and bury the truth.
Fact is fact.
Any fool who goes around trying to propagate the idea that "oba" is originally an edo word is the real troll.
It's so basic and simple that even an idiot should have enough human intelligence to know it cannot be original to the Edo language considering the History and Culture of the area

Just imaging, ‘ To them Africans (hamite) are cursed' grin You are even worse than greyboy! Go and read about the Bible from the critics who studied the biblical history. No wonder you lacked the pedigree to differentiate beween Ibo's otutu and Yoruba's wuro, aro oro, auro, euro ,which is ; morning, sunlight of the day in both languages. This your poor knowledge can't understand how these root came to be from the formation from grin Waw+ Resh as explained, below

This alone has shown you're simply finished and empty because you have no clue nor books to make as reference to support your baseless views. So, stop being backward and uneducated by reading books to know more than you have at hand.
When you become useful reach out to me. I can't take a fool seriously, especially not one who has no background in any academic field calling those who spend years working in academics names

I know he is always scared of me. Logycs, yes I know you are. Cry! grin
This prolog aka ghostwon aka historyworld031 has transitioned from anything the oba of Benin says is law and true to oba of Benin is playing politics and lying grin
From anything in European maps is law to maybe some European maps were wrong
Every new moniker, a new strategy

It seems he has deleted his latest moniker to regroup and come back again grin

You are not even a true yoruba person to lump us up with bunch of monkeys ,, . Yoruba are not congoloid or bantoid and i;m not claiming hebrew either
Normally this whole allegation of me not being Yoruba would be laughable. But it's purely an insult coming from someone who is a disgrace to his Yoruba ancestors and utterly disconnected from the rest of the Yoruba nation.
You have exposed yourselves to be Hebrew ass lickers
That is where your loyalty lies

Oh now you are not claiming hebrew but just in your last post you said Yoruba might be black Hebrews grin confusion and inconsistencies.
Yoruba are black Hebrews but are not Congoloid??
Mad man.. Black people are known and addressed as "Congoloid" in academia
Black = congoloid. To claim Hebrews are black is to the same thing as saying they are congoloid

Go to school, acquire education and be useful, you refused

These are the type of foolish ignorant people dragging the Yoruba in the mud allowing others mock us. What a waste of space in Yorùbáland

That is the problem Africa is Diverse continent you have to know that Mr macof we are not the same "" Nilotic is totally different from Bantu and Cushite ...Hebrew are not white people they are black skinned people"" Moses married Ethiopian woman ,you can't tell the difference between Ethiopian and Hebrew and Egyptian in the Bible that is why Joseph and Mary flee to Egypt to hide Jesus from King Herod because they were black skinned if they had moved North they would be easily detected because of color of their skin among White skinned people ,.... During the pharaonic period kushite empire stretched to chad region ..The mysterious kingdom of Yam in Egyptian history is located their..Yoruba could be of product Cushite black that migrated down due to the desertification of Sahara or migration of Hebrew and Egyptian down south due to War in upper Nile . Igbo is totally different from Hausa genetically and phenotypically ..Yoruba is different
The only thing you know is bible (which is a poor source of historical education) . If you like try to Black wash the bible it does not stop it from being foreign to your true African ancestors
Lol. The inconsistency here is actually laughable. You don't want to be black unless the Hebrews are black grin
Damn. A fully colonised and abrahamised African who can only see good in himself if he deludes and deceives himself to have Hebrew ancestors

You are free to adopt Hebrews as your people. You have obviously been spiritually and mentally separated from the Yoruba Africanness

Even in your Bible the Hebrews were clear that Africans (codename Ethiopians in English translations but "Cushite" or "Hamite" in Hebrew) looked nothing like them.
To them Africans (Hamite) are cursed and these are the people you admire, worship and want to be?

You are a disgrace to the Yoruba. Better to start relocating to your true home in Israel where you can be happy

Yeah, African history is special. It doesn't obey logical rules established and respected elsewhere. In African history we must create a backdoor for revisionists, that backdoor we shall call it "oral history" or "tradition".
It allows crooks to make up stories, myths and present them as history.

Crooked macof, you will never change.
You are still a confused small boy

Logycs:
Where to start ?

1) all you said is unsubstantiated
2) oranmiyan whom you talk about as if he were real is actually a mythical figure.
3) do I need to say more ?

You still haven't changed. You just keep repeating made up stories and never care to prove any claim of yours.

The fact remains that you can't locate any precolonial text referring to your chiefs ( ooni, alafin...) as Oba.
But in the 1930's out of a sudden, all your chiefs started bearing the title Oba.

The only précolonial texts mentioning the word Oba was referring to the Oba of Benin.

Your chiefs copied the title of the Oba of Benin.
And you know it eventhough you refuse to acknowledge it and try to claim it through mythical figures (who were totally made up).

Of course you want to reduce the significance of the title, it is not yours after all.
You claim the Oba title is inferior to the ooni title yet, your ooni felt obliged to add it to his title. And so did your alafin and actually all your chiefs.
Laughable.

Crooked yoriba
When discussing African history, you don't stop at texts. You go deep into tradition
