VoiceYourStorie:
My Mother Left My Father, My Brother And I - Uniuyo's Best Graduating Student

The best graduating student shares how growing up without the warmth of a mother can be so depressing for a child of a two year old or three.

Ayooluwa Babalola found himself in a situation where he had to cope daily in the arms of his extended family members. Although they were nice, their affection could not fill up the gap of a mother's love for her own child. His childhood perhaps became that of an incomplete world.

In his words "l think what actually stood out in my childhood is that I spent a whole lot of my it living with my uncle's family. From the age of two or three, my dad took me and my brother to Abeokuta to stay with my uncle.

"I remember my dad used to visit often, and during long holidays He would take us home. I don't remember my biological mom ever visiting. She never did. Literally, l was raised by my aunt whom I took as a mom and my uncle as a dad.

"I don't remember the first time I heard the story of my mom's separation from my dad, but I was told somehow somewhere sometime in the past. A better way to put it is that she left my dad, my brother and me. My dad made it clear that it was for our (my bro and I) good that they weren't together. So I had questions as a child, what happened to her, why did she have to leave? So my childhood psyche was a little messed up.

“My uncle’s family were very nice people. They raised me well, taught me Christian values and sorts. I was not maltreated or anything of sort. My mum (aunt) raised me like her own son. Their children became like sisters to me…I regarded them as my sisters. In fact till now, I find it difficult to refer to them as cousins.

“In school when my mates asked about my parents (especially about my mom) I get confused, like who exactly should I talk about, my biological mom or my mum (aunt)? Well, I usually just ward off those questions and sometimes I would lie, but I don’t really recall what I would say.

“Yes at my uncle’s home there were good moments and bad ones. Times when I cried and wished things were a little different. You know when you are staying with people you know are not your immediate family, you begin to interpret so many actions that doesn’t go well with you. And the devil wouldn’t make it easy.

“I really do appreciate all my uncle’s family did. They were and still have been a blessing to me. However, when I was a child I wished my parents had not separated, not because my uncle’s family were not good people, but l guess its human psychology that when u know something isn’t yours, you can’t feel at home. I think I had the best case scenario of living with Uncles.”

Regardless of his parents separation, it did not deter Ayo from dreaming of a great future. He did believe after rain comes sun. His incomparable faith in God and determined spirit must have served him a rolling stroll in which his passion for living outstandingly drove on.

Being the best graduating student in an institution that existed in a ‘strange’ land where he had to learn the dialect while coping with the environment as a preacher’s kid, must have served him a life sentence of confusion.

But as it is said “tough times don’t last but tough people do”, Ayo stood out despite the odds. He went on occupying sensitive positions in church and this must have boosted his self esteem in a way.

He actually gave Voice Your Stories Team an highlight of his journey to being the first class citizen in University of Uyo.

“I wrote jamb twice. The first time l tried gaining admission with a score of 230 but was turned down. The second time l scored 198 in jamb and 264 in post utme. Thank God l finally had admission to study Economics in University of Uyo, this was a dream come true.

“While in school, l had a target of becoming the best graduating student in the Economics department. I wrote the dream down of making a first class with 4.75.

“However my dream was threatened when l was told that my predecessors who were classified with first class honours had less than 4.75. They said l was embarking on a mission impossible.

“In the midst of the discouragement, l was still steadfast that l will still make the dream a reality.

The boring Mayweather style. Its making boxing look weak
From Manny Robles, Ruiz trainer.

“He [Joshua] fought a great fight, and he surprised me. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a heavyweight move the way he did,” said Robles to secondsout about Joshua’s movement. “Stick and move, and he had that footwork. You don’t find heavyweights that moved the way he did.

“It’s very rare for a heavyweight to move in the fashion that he did. I have nothing but respect for Joshua and his team, because they did what they had to do, and they fought a great fight,” said Robles.

I am sure you don’t know more than a legendary boxing trainer.

Boxing is called sweet science because your plan is to hit and not get hit. Movement and slickness is part of the sport. AJ was accused of being too stiff and robotic; he moves like Ali and Fury, he is accused of being too swift.

Romance › Re: My Lady Is Showing Signs Of Unseriousness by madridsta007(m): 6:17pm On Dec 09, 2019
Innobee99:
I met this lady in 2015 though she was very young and still young. She's 21 while am 28. I love and cherish her so much and despite her flaws she's the one I find comfortable to spend my days with. We have been having a lot of relationship issues which we do settle.

There are many issues she puts on which I won't want to mention here cuz I overlook her flaws and focus on her good side.

The problem is it seems she's not ready for marriage at all or maybe because she's still young and want to fulfill her youthful desires. Always want to be a slay Queen, contesting for beauty pageants even without my knowledge.

I have talked to her severally about my desire to marry her but only nod her head in affirmation but I think she's really not ready.

OK, last year we had a serious issue which we broke up cuz it was a real family war. But we later came back to together again despite I was not at fault and cuz of the love I have for her, I went to her mum to apologize over the issue so we can be one again. I told this lady to also visit my mum and apologize too but she has been procrastinating for a year now. She has not visited my family house over the year. Whenever I confront her on why she don't want to reconcile with my family, she will give flimsy excuses of been busy. How can one be busy for a whole one year to say sorry even if it's on phone.

Now, I met a lady few months ago, and I love her so much and she's ready to settle down with me next year December. And I knw this my stubborn babe is a very jealous type and I don't knw how to handle the issue and let her go since I have seen someone who's ready to settle down with me.

My babe is only interested in u flexing with her like taking her out to eateries, lodging her in a hotel for fun, buying her gifts without spending her own kobo on u (I can swear to that). Last year, I spent alot on her birthday but wen it was my birthday, the total of what she got for me was N700. N200 perfume and N500 Nivea Roll on. But that's not my business sha.

For example, this new babe requested me to give her 2k to make her hair for an event in Church which I bluntly ignored her just to test her, not that I don't have the money. Can u believe that this babe have even forgotten she asked me the money? And she talks to me perfectly on phone. She was like babe, if u don't have money don't stress urself ooooo, I'll repackage my hair and still look good to Church. If u don't send my babe money before the due time, she'll stop calling u.

The new babe is not after money or material things. Though I'll send her a reasonable amount today. Unlike my babe, who will bring down hell if u don't send her money before the deadline. Can u believe that in August, she had already brought her christmas list to me to check?

To cut all these short, I need mature mind on what to do on this cuz am confused. U can pour ur insults cuz I don't even bother abt that as far as I get the advise I want.

Stay blessed my beautiful NL family.
LOL.
You know what to do. But the "curse" of emotions is preventing you from doing the right thing.

Travel › Re: My Experience Living And Working In The UAE by madridsta007(m):
Champagnemami:
The working days in the UAE are Sunday to Thursday. I'm sure this makes sense to y'all. This is a strict Muslim state where the government is influenced by religion. Friday and Saturday are weekends and church is Friday.

The UAE recognises just about two Christian groups: catholic and orthodox. They have assigned particular areas to churches. I have a feeling the government even built the cathedrals but I'm not sure. Of course you get other Nigerian churches like Christ embassy and winners but these ones dont have their own buildings but meet in rented halls and quietly/codedly so- no banners, no posters, no jingles, all quiet.
So on this day, sometime last year, I'd gone for service like every other Friday, and outside my own hall, I met this Nigerian guy who'd come to worship in the nearby catholic church and we got talking.

Well long story short, dude was working in a carwash and earning 2k dirhams, approximately 200k Naira. When his contract ended, his company refused to renew contract/visa. Since then he's not been able to land another job and has been on a 5months overstay. To get by, he cleans rented apartments for peanuts, for people who do not remember to ask for emirates ID. His biggest regret was not saving enough while working and wished he sent less money home. Dude wasn't looking good at all, he looked all parched and thirsty like someone who was in a desert other the 'sesky' Dubai. Right there, i thanked God for helping me find stability in this place and wished him well.

Fast forward to sometime ds year, i ran into same nigga again. This time levels don change o. Dude was looking all fresh and sleek as he alighted from a ford explorer. The passenger beside him was a white lady. I must have stared at him with mouth agape cos he just smiled, signalled that i give him a minute and then went with the lady into the church. He came out a couple of minutes later and gave me gist.

He and white lady were now living together, he's now on a resident visa, he's been trying to take her to naija to meet his family but he no no se naija visa no be beans, they've decided to get married here and meet his family later. He now knows he's serving a living God. American visa toh sure cheesy. Lol I later learnt from someone that that day he spoke to me was the first time he was leaving the lady's side since they met. All the while he's been her bodyguard- taking great care to protect his interest b4 all these gold digging naija brethrens would snatch his God-given treasure. Where were they when he was all broke, jobless and homeless??

Lol...I'm sure by now d nigga is married and on a journey to claiming the blue passport
.
I used to be quite pissed with Nigerians and blacks that do these. But I no more get mad at them.
Frankly, if you survive using legal means- and, of course, this includes marrying someone legally in order to have a legal resident status- I have no qualms with that. A good majority of Nigerians abroad would prefer going back to Nigeria- hence the travel boom that happened during GEJ tenure. However in 2015, certain tribalist Nigerians believed that (s)electing a dictator with the ability to economically catapault Nigerians into the Stone Ages was preferable; Nigerians have been leaving in their droves in their quest to survive and live a better life. If we know the number of Drs leaving Nigeria, for example, Nigerians will declare a health emergency.

Hence if a 9ja man decides to legally marry a white woman for papers, I think he has not done anything wrong. He isnt to blame. Blame the system. I only worry for the Nigerian ladies who will have an eligible man been taken up by a white lady. Poor political decisions destroys economy and slowly displaces the social dynamics of a people.

I just hope that when Nigeria has a President from the South, they wont be overcome with cowardice in following a Southernisation, Yorubanisation, Igbonisation or Ijawnisation Policy. (Interestingly, I am not angry with Buhari on his Fulanisation project, as it was expected, let us not pretend about this; I am more mad with Southerners who are venting their anger on him, instead of the Southern Presidents we've had for not doing so.)

Yes. AJ was very disciplined in that match.

He knew what he wanted and he did not deviate from the plan for 12. Kudos to him.

But he did not fight like a man who wanted revenge.

The match did not build up to its hype.
His revenge was getting back his heavyweight titles.
Revenge is not always about using your emotions. If you use emotions to make decisions in a boxing match (or anywhere else), you will get KO'ed. Everyday of the week. Every boxer will tell you this. Even Wilder doesnt fight with emotions. He stays in the match, absorbs punches and slips and clinches and looks for an opening.

AJ fought like a man that had an objective. To get the HW titles back. Which he did. 10/10.

LOL. Watch Muhammed Ali fights and understand what he means by "float like a butterfly and sting like a bee".

More experienced and old time fight fans find that fight on Saturday to be the most technical fight in recent heavyweight memory.
It is more difficult fighting technically and following a gameplan for 12 rounds as compared to looking for an opening to get a KO. The first requires skill and discipline; KO requires mainly skill.

Politics › Re: Sowore: APC Attacks Atiku, PDP For Condemning Buhari, DSS by madridsta007(m): 9:58am On Dec 09, 2019
Yenny4real:
The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday rebuked the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for condemning the Buhari government and the Department of State Services (DSS) over last Friday’s court invasion.

Recall that DSS operatives on Friday re-arrested Omoyele Sowore, convener of RevolutionNow campaign, a situation that has generated local and international criticisms.

In a statement Sunday night, Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC National Publicity Secretary, said Atiku and the PDP chose to present and spread concocted alternative facts and lies on the incident.

It said the presidency has clarified that the DSS does not necessarily need the president’s permission in all cases to carry out its essential and constitutional responsibilities.“Whether Sowore flouted any of his bail conditions or staged the incident in court is another matter which the court and the prosecuting agency should address”, APC stated.

“Atiku, in his horrid statement particularly, accused the DSS of attacking the presiding judge among other lies being chorused by the PDP and their hirelings. Documentary evidence such as videos and pictures have shown that the tales are a complete ruse until anyone is able to present contrary evidence.

"If Atiku’s intervention was sincere, having realized the truth, he has not deemed it proper to apologise to Nigerians for misinforming them on the incident. Instead, he hangs shamelessly on his lies. A commentator has correctly described Atiku as “the king of the bandwagon”.

“The PDP and Atiku, in their dubious attempt at painting the APC government bad by all means, have chosen to exercise no restraint whatsoever in spreading falsehood. We would continue to reiterate the need for Nigerians to be wary of these people who are bent on bringing our country down.

“The APC, therefore, unequivocally rejects the inciting messages and criminal antics of some individuals and partisans who have embarked on a campaign of calumny against this administration and are calling for a forceful takeover of government. They are cowards and enemies of Nigeria.

“We call on Nigerians to look at the issue of Sowore’s arrest and subsequent trial dispassionately and devoid of the skewed narratives and sentiments being propagated by the likes of Atiku and PDP.

“Sowore contested and woefully lost the 2019 presidential election, garnering a meagre 33,953 votes compared to the winner, President Muhammadu Buhari, who polled over 15 million votes. He left the country afterwards and held talks, with pictures to prove, with another wanted secessionist. He returned to the country and openly threatened to lead a violent revolution against a democratically elected government.

“Our laws are clear on treason and Nigerians would expect decisive actions from our law enforcement agencies and government. Any attempt to truncate our democracy and threaten our collective peace and safety must and will be resisted using the full weight and instrumentalities of the law.”

And before this case came up, Falana has always been the poster guy for human rights activism. This is no way tribalistic because I'm Igbo and no Igbo person comes to mind.

In 2007, Falana contested in the Ekiti state gubernatorial elections and was unsuccessful. So for those who will say he has no interest in politics, check your facts.

If you think there's anyone better, let's see.
Falana supported Buhari, who’s a known coupist, despot and tribal bigot. He (Falana) showed a terrible sense of judgement there. I wouldn’t want someone who has a poor sense of history and a terrible sense of judgement to lead a local government let alone a country. Even till today, you have Falana supporting Buhari. Lawyers were being galvanised to condemn Buhari's depose and rape of democracy in the removal of Onoghen at the last NBA conference. It was Falana who fought his fellow lawyers and supported Buhari.

Nigerians have not forgotten.

Adeshina the ADB President or Peter Obi. Astute, proven 21st century leadership competence and both democrats. These will be my picks.

Where was Wole Soyinka when Nnamdi Kanu's bail was ignored, where was he when Nnamdi Kanu's family house was being desecrated by the military?

Why is Soyinka even complaining against a government whose emergence he actively worked for?
The chicken has come home to roost and they've begun whipping up empathy.

I refuse to buy in and it is simple.
I won't weep for you when your house is on fire if you didn't weep for me when mine was.

No way,

Sowore should pay the price for inciting a revolution against the government of the day out of animosity for not making the ministerial list.
The APC made it clear that they were not going to run a Government of National Unity, so what is Sowere's grouse?

Is it also a coincidence that his call for revolution came after the ministerial list was released?

We have better things like Allen Onyema and Air Peace to worry about and I find it rather paradoxical that our dear Professor has not made a comment on the ordeals of Allen Onyema.

Soyinka dines with the people he criticizes and laughs to their faces, accepts their awards and shows up for their invitations.
Visits their official residences and takes happy photographs with them. Worse even, he allows his children to serve under them.

Aside not being as literally sound, this two-faced nature is one of the reasons he will never be half the man Chinua Achebe was.

Chinua Achebe made his stand on issues unequivocally clear without any hues of grey, he turned down National awards based on personal principles, he never fraternized with people he believed made the country worse off and most importantly, he spoke out irrespective of whose ox it was that was being gored.

Wole Soyinka may have the unmerited award, but Achebe is the laurel itself.

How can the same people who said they couldn't trust Nigeria in the hands of Atiku "the looter" and "Made in China" Obi now complain that Nigeria is finished under their Mr. Intergrity and his Professor of Law vice?

Wife of Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the RevolutionNow protest and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mrs Ope Sowore, has sent a message to President Muhammadu Buhari that she and her children are waiting for the return of her husband.

She said she had no clear roadmap on how to handle the situation but that she had sent appeals to the United Nations and had been working with Amnesty International and many other organisations to help raise awareness and “hopefully help to secure the release” of her husband.

Speaking to PUNCH on the telephone on Friday, Sowore’s wife said, “I’m concerned about what happened to my husband. It’s less than 24 hours that the Nigerian government has basically turned around and shown a gross abuse of power. I am praying and hoping that it will be resolved so that he can come home to meet me and the children.

“No clear roadmap or script on how to handle a situation like this. The reason why there is rule of law is because it protects people’s basic rights and the fact that Buhari and the DSS have refused to do that is a matter of great concern.

“We are currently working with many international organisations to help advocate on his behalf and we have sent several urgent appeals to the United Nations.”

Sowore was arrested on August 3, 2019 over a planned protest, which he tagged ‘RevolutionNow’. The DSS accused him of planning to overthrow the government with his planned protest, the basis upon which he had been detained.

Officials of the Department of State Services had on Friday invaded the Federal High Court in Abuja to rearrest Sowore, who was released alongside his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, on Thursday after they had spent over three months in the DSS custody.

If she wants her husband back, She should call on Tinubu who controls the South West political and media machinery.
Once the Southwest speaks and backs her husband, Sowore will be out in no time.
As long as Buhari feels he has the backing of APC structure in the Southwest, your husband will be in DSS custody.
Again, I am sure she knows this. But the Tinubu jazz is so powerful. It shuts people up.

Stop talking to the CJN. I don’t understand why you guys keep forgetting Buhari planted this CJN.

Forget going to court. The court currently has no power of its own. It’s toothless right now.

So, you guys believe DSS is truly going berserk on its own? No , she’s acting based on orders from the slim shady.

undecided
They don’t “keep forgetting that Buhari planted this CJN”.

Everyone here knows.

But because a good number of people are cowards, they are unable to confront Buhari directly or even to mention his name. They pick on the CJN, who is simply a puppet. Unserious lots.

If you want to be serious, call out the puppeteer. The man instructing the puppet. No one will beat you.
Christianity Etc › Re: Bishop Oyedepo’s 9 ‘Bodyguards’ At Shiloh 2019 Spark Controversy Online by madridsta007(m): 7:58pm On Dec 06, 2019
MGab25:
Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder and General Overseer of Living Faith Church a.k.a Winners’ Chapel who made headlines days ago after speaking out against the controversial hate speech bill, is on the news again after a photo of his alleged bodyguards went viral.

Oyedepo was spotted in the viral photo, surrounded by 9 men as he preached at his church’s annual programme ‘Shiloh’. The photo ignited mixed reactions as some social media user claimed the men are his bodyguards, while others defended the church leader; stating that the men are ushers stationed at the altar to control the crowd.

Twitter user @iam_Chisco1 who first shared his observation, tweeted “9 bodyguard protecting Bishop Oyedepo right in the alter of God…I wonder who he is actually afraid of when Jesus is by his side.”

Here are reactions to the tweet below;

@iam_selom tweeted: “More than 15 bodyguard protecting Bishop Oyedepo right in the alter of God…I wonder who he is actually afraid of when Jesus is by his side.”

@wainaina_john tweeted: “The social-religious facade messing Africa! Obviously, the 9 bodyguards are hired to keep all inane bigots surrounding him at bay. There’s no way success-hungry gullibles can mean well to a rich clergyman, moreso after offering hard-earned pennies to get hopefully instant miracles”

@ebube_iam tweeted: “They’re not bodyguards, they are called Protocols, they are from the Protocol department of the church. Even your political leaders have them. When last did you even go to church? Abi you just want to trend cos the stupid ones will join you in this thread”

@IGlare tweeted : “I see some fellows calling them ushers, try getting close to that ur bishop since he is ur pastor, and see the true meaning of Security guards. I have seen them manhandle worshippers when your Bishop is passing. Afterall he slapped a lady called her witch & you all hailed him.”

@tequaneV tweeted: “Those are crowd control unit members. I am one of them in my local assembly, it’s standard protocol in LFC worldwide to have CCU altar squad members standing when the Pastor in charge of the local assembly is preaching. don’t post trash dude”

@nonsookongwu tweeted: “Till tmr, my boss will always move with armed police people and crowd control team..after an experience he had preaching somewhere & he was almost suffocated by the crowd. In fact, those are his prime requirements if he must attend any programme. Call it what u want, baba is being safe”

@leyislee tweeted: “Nigeria has turned everyone to critics, we criticize everything even what we know nothing about or should care less about. Shiloh is going on and hundreds of thousands are there from so many countries. Order is needed. It’s not like that on Normal service days”

@enyola tweeted: “Protocol is English… if I approach that alter without invitation, will hey stop me from having access to him? If the answer is yes, they are part-time bodyguards and they are probably doing it for free so calling it ushers/protocol makes it sound like they are doing it for God.”

Deluded and ignorant fellows.

You people are just weak-minded cowards. Why dont you pick on Buhari who is victimising Sowore through DSS?

That isn't 'most'.
There are many detailed research studies on small arms trafficking in Africa— fuelling wars, civil conflicts, etc. The traffickers focus on failed states and States with porous borders.
Nigeria ticks every box.

This democratic tyranny and apparent disregard for law and courts by Buhari's regime is unmatched.

The Bar and Bench must rise up to you this. I wonder again how the CJN who was appointed through the backdoor will confront his master Buhari on such desecration of law.

Nobody deserves to live the Nigerian life.
You asked a question and answered it yourself. Of course a CJN appointed "through the backdoor" will only be answerable to his master Buhari.
Not the constitution, not the Nigerian people.
Forget about the "Bar and Bench rising". Aint happening.

That is why meritocracy is important. A CJN appointed through the process of merit will be answerable to merit only.
Anyway, Nigerians will not learn lessons. Wasn't it only recently that we had Abacha and his despotic Gulag? In the next 10-20 years again, Nigerians will be drunk on tribalism and vote in/scheme in/bring in a despot as long as it would scheme out a democract who they do not share tribal kinship with.

No, let us be honest. Nigerians will not learn any lesson. A stiff-necked people.

Most aren't doing anything as sophisticated as selling arms. Just petty nonsense.
The black market for small arms in failed states is often very high and busy.
They'll sit down in their offices in Manhattan, Berlin, London and start to make the contacts.
And then "enter" the market.
Nigeria will not be any different.
