mavinc4u: I think the guy is pointing out that he is not an Engineer to know what's up. That is one problem Nigeria has, given a post to someone that knows nothing about a field he works in. I believe the issue of being naive is at the doorstep of you lot. Leadership capability is different from job training. Besides if it is not clear that this visit is about an assessment of the current condition of the coal-plant and rather not about the bolts and nuts of it, then comprehension has taken flight from many of you. |

onatisi: If gej had no ideas why is it that buhari and his cohorts are still following and implementing his policies and ideas?
Remember even buhari himself has acknowledged more than once that it is gej policies and roadmap that he is implementing eg TSA, power sector reforms And even fashola himself has stated it that it is the laid down plans of gej ,they are implementing and that out of all the past governments it is only gej government that had done more roads. What policies has this government initiated for the last 10months? Governance is about continuity and buhari has done well by not abandoning gej projects or ideas Keep deluding yourself, You can show yourself where and when both said those jibberish you put up. Meanwhile governance is not always about continuity, especially not ineptitude, waste and corruption that GEJ's government typifies and I wonder where you got that rubbish as well. |

This has led to the country sliding into recession since we've recorded negative growth within two quarters of a fiscal year. I'm sure Buhari don't understand all the economic terms used here (since he didn't even pass simple O'Level Economics). I'm sure you don't too tongue. He said fg needs to spend money they have saved to avoid Nigeria economy sliding into recession. Simple! Don't be biased in your reasoning. He shouldn't be biased? Adminisher: Enugu coal is the answer to Nigeria's power generation problem. There are clean coal power plants now that are very expensive to build but when you start construction, the EU will give you grants just to ensure that the emmissions will be low. Apart from power, coal also produces a large number of by products that we need in country and also for exports. Bros, I will assume some of your assertions here are mere wishful thinking. Truth is coal is dirty energy, no matter how you spin it and the world is discouraging it. In our case, we need power from all sources, so fvck CDM, Clean emission and the likes for now. We need to get the plant back up, anything that can push us over the 10-15GW mark in the shortest possible time is welcomed |

Adminisher: : This was a coal fired power plant. You need coal to be running first before you even re-build the plant. All Jonathan's efforts to revive coal failed because of too much complex commerciality and lack of transparency. We need simple direct intervention with the minimum of noise making The honest truth is that gej had wonderful ideas but he failed in delivering them because he was a weak leader. I believe we still have sufficient amount of coal to generate power, all that is needed is a person to deliver those ideas. Although I doubt it if buhari has it anyway Failures and dropouts have wonderful ideas (in their dreams) but cannot deliver because they are.......[fill the blanks with excuses]. Bros, GEJ had no wonderful idea and padding it is a disservice to honesty. GEJ was simply a mistake we "emotionally" made |

linearity: O boy, I like your enthusiasm; the Nigeria you painted above is still under going the rebirth process. When dem nofa fit distribute national ID cards for more than 5 years now, na mama ego food sellers them want wan fit profile across the breadth of Lagos?
And you must have a full faith in government that, all monies collected from these transit food seller and mini business owners will be accurately accounted for and remitted.
Though, you are wrong to insinuate that, paying tax is the responsility of everyone. It is not even done that way in industrialized and even ultra capatalistic societies. Taxation policies should be an instrument of government to establish minimum living standards across it's people, it should also serve as an economic equalizer, else it becomes repressive to many....Many citizens who fall at this minimum income borderline should not be made to pay taxes, as doing so will that takes below the sustainability threshold...and those whose income are below this borderline should get some redistribution from the government to push them up towards the minimum threshold.
Therefore, the government should first establish minimum sustainability thresholds and build it's tax policies around it, instead of going around and chasing down every living soul for tax money, some can't simply afford to pay and government agents should not inhibit their means of livelihood as a result of that. My brother, Please be educated on these 1. It is the madatory responsibilities of ALL CITIZENS to pay tax. That is what the constitution says 2. The constitution did not say we should wait till complete a "rebirth process" or your faith in government before some people should pay taxes. The constitution is clear on the terms, which is provided you earn income. See exerpt below 1) The Personal Income Tax: This stipulates that all Nigerians (and non-Nigerians who make their earnings in Nigeria) pay tax from their earnings. Liability to Personal Income Tax is dependent on whether one is resident in Nigeria or whether one is a non-Nigerian. You pay this tax if:
You are a Nigerian making your earnings in Nigeria Your business is resident in the country You are a non-Nigerian who makes his or her earning in Nigeria is also taxed. 3. Payment of taxes is a civic responsibility. It is not a bargaining chip or an economic equaliser. It is well stipulated in the constitution. That is also how it is in your so called "ultra capitalistic" and "developed" societies. The constitution did not state that payment of taxes is conditioned on whether the government establishes a minimum sustainability threshold..... We must separate emotions from the statues |

anonimi: Misitah I-am-not-ignorant, you obviously forgot that whatever perks and benefits she receives from the company will be valued and added to her "small salary" in order to assess her liable Personal Income Tax. That is what your not-stupid LIRS would and should do hence they complained about her N4,000 tax, not so
The below message is adapted for the SOCIETY as opposed to the individual. Cheers.
www.nairaland.com/attachments/2920815_fbimg1443594726987_jpegc00071cb2902eb1726fe8107c3b2dbb6 1. You come to me as someone who frames issues recklessly. Recall you started by saying that the government should "how much the artistes, bloggers, politicians who announce their......". To this I simply told you the government have no business "telling you" how much those people pay. Besides there are means of calculation and declarations of company taxes. Personal taxes are don't become public knowledge except it is absolutely necessart 2. On Linda Ikeji, this is a different issue. If Linda Ikeji is evading taxes, then she's bound to be prosecuted and probably jailed. My argument is that, provided those you refer to as flaunting expesive watches and cars have paid the requisite taxes, these are not substitutes for the poor not to pay their madatory taxes 3. So let's put it in perspective that Linda pays tax, whatever perks and benefits she receives from office can only be added if it is documented as part of her income benefits and it is taxable. If they are deemed part of the company's expenditure, then it would be deemed overhead and Company's taxes are backed out after expenses. If Linda is smart enough to purchase these perks on company's name and not hers and the auditor interpretes the tax laws that they are company's expenses, Linda would win in court to pay the 6k. |

How dem go take calculate the tax liabilities of mama ego, who sells foods under eko bridge? What about the micro pure water business that Uncle Tom is running along mile 2 road?
This is another means of extortion of money from petty traders who can't afford to make ends meet and the extorted monies will end up in private pockets and accounts. 1. Wrong premise and wrong assumption. simple scale economics tells you that the share numbers of these people will make mince-meat of the effort 2. A typical mama Ego will first be registered and profiled. It will be established(on an average)from what she sells how much is the minimum she ought to make (even if she makes less). From this her tax bracket will be determined and the requisite taxes calculated. 3. Referring to paying taxes as another means of extortion is tantamount to being uninformed and crudely ignorant. Look at it like this, in a Face-me-I-face you house, where about 20 rooms share one meter, do they exempt someone from paying electricity bills because he's the poorest? Paying tax is the responsibility of every citizen |

I guess the State is copying the American tax policy of taxing the lowest income earners 15%. Bros, There are ways in which government sieves the right information out. Even if you like declare wrong salaries. Forensic auditors will find you out and the penalties is worse. |
