Thanks Mazaje, you have summed up my thought of David. Because, i have not seen any post by both Muslims and atheist displaying any form of hatred towards Banon, even Banom had not indicated so. I think he need to see a shrink in order to dissipate some of that hatred for people with opposing views - Muslims and Atheists. Maybe after then will he learn to take life easy and acquire some sense of humour. His hatred is beclouding his judgments and thoughts.
When Toneyb discovered that I was once a christian on Nairaland and asked me what made me leave the belief system, Davidylan also came along and asked me what made me leave, Now that the same thing he asked me is being asked of Banom by Manmustwac he quickly tags it as "hate and having sleepless nights". grin Some times I wonder how he reasons grin grin. . . .

I could turn your argument back on you. Consider the implications of your assertion: for something to be true in your view, it would have to be verifiable or measurable by the means at your disposal. Suppose by some chance, I am transported back in time and stranded in 1000 AD. I tell the incredulous inhabitants of that era that the planet mars has two moons. While that would be true statement, it certainly wouldn't be verifiable in that era.
It can verified even in that era all you need to do is to present a space telescope and show it to them and they will verify it. Where is your evidence to verify that Jesus is the son of god that is presently sitting on the right hand of god or that mohammed is the last prophet of allah that ascended into heaven on a white horse? For your statement to be true at that time you will first of all have to explain what mars is and give them enough details about it before they can conclude if its true or false.

Thus that which is true need not be verifiable or reproducible by the means at your disposal.
You are just shifting your god into the realm of the unknown so that you can rationalize the hypothesis. 1000 AD People did not even know that there were planets orbiting the sun. In fact people do not even know what exactly the sun is because some of them were worshiping it at that time. Now we have people claiming that jesus christ who is the son of god is presently sitting at the right hand of god and jesus christ is god himself, such a statement requires belief because it can NEVER be verified.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God is a true statement which certainly is not verifiable by the means at the disposal of the empiricist. That it requires belief doesn't render it untrue.
Jesus christ is the son of god that is presently sitting on the right hand side of god is not a true statement because it can not be verified. It is only a claim. By the way the "truth" of your statement applies only to those that first of all have to accept the claim. It doesn't apply to those they do not accept it. Toneyb said that men can never give birth to children, That is a universal truth and it does not require belief and accepted world wide, The claim that jesus is the son of god is "true" only to the culture that buys into the claim and not true for another culture that does not buy into it. It is subjective. The truth is accepted universally. A car that runs on petrol can not travel 100km on an empty tank, that is a universal truth and does not require belief, Jesus is the son of god is a cultural/ regional belief.

That you disbelieve doesn't make it untrue, just as disbelief in 1000 AD doesn't alter the truth of the statement "Mars has two moons."
Mars has two moons and it does not require belief, back in AD 1000 if you make such a claim like mars has two moons you will first of all have to provide evidence to the people before they can believe or disbelief. saying that Jesus is the son of god that is sitting on the right hand of god without providing any evidence for the claim says it is not true? How do you know that for sure? Did god tell you personally that he has a son sitting on his right hand? Did the people that make the claim that jesus is the son of god presently sitting on the right hand of god provide any evidence to you? How do you know that jesus is the son of god? Did jesus personally tell you that himself or do you accept it because others said it? How do you know that the people that made that claim are not lying since jesus never wrote that he is the son of god and passed it unto others to read? Everything that jesus alleged said came from the writings of others how do you know that they were not lying? How do you know if jesus truly said he is the son of god since all what he supposedly said came from the writings of others? So how do you know that they are not lying considering the fact that they wrote decades after he died?

You said: "So I agree the truth does not require belief."
Juxtapose this: The truth that Jesus Christ is the Son of God does not require your belief.
This is not for me but let me come in here and say that The truth that Mohammed is the last Prophet of allah does not require your belief.

Can you show me one hateful post from any atheist towards banom? Since hate is what drives your life you automatically think that every body is like you or should behave like you, So far most of the atheist here have wished him all the best and some even encouraged him. Where did you get this stupid and ridiculous assertion of yours that people are now "hateful" of him? I know you need to feel that others think and behave like you but some times you have to read what you type before sounding like a senseless and ridiculous drunk.

Manmustwac said he was suprised at his conversion and asked why the change and all you did was tag it as hate? You are truly a deluded and hopeless bigot.

Nairaland is actually a figment of our imagination. The Mazaje I assume to be responding to, could just be some alphabets on my computer screen. I have never seen him/her. The Mazaje that I see on my computer doesn't wear no clothes.
False Nairaland is a website that exist where people come and interact with each other, through posts. You do not see a person in the form of Mazaje all you see is a user name called Mazaje.

Try telling an old lady in the village about cyberspace and watch her reaction.
Sometimes, when I discuss about events & people on Nairaland in the presence of older folks, they always wonder what I'm talking about.
If only you will take them to a computer they will see what you are doing and have an Idea of what you are saying. Can you take me to the Kingdom of darkness so that I can see what is going on over there?

They give me that "where is Nairaland look?". They kind of wonder why I speak of it like like its a place. They don't just get it.
You can actually take them to a computer and show them where what Nairaland is and they will see it. Can you take any body to the mythical Kingdom of darkness and show them where it is to see?

Same way man. Same way that the uninitiated can't understand cyberspace is the same way that the uninitiated can understand  the supernatural.
The computer illiterate person can see a computer and see the nairaland page when it is displayed, Can you show or point to the Kingdom of darkness? Where exactly is it located?

One of the strongest qulaities of intelligence is an open mind. The more open your mind is, the more likely you are to learn about new things and new ways.
Open mind does not equate to accepting KNOWN myths as facts or realities.

Many folks have the assumption that denying the existence of the supernatural equates to some form of intelligence
Where did I insinuate that in my post to neotic?

You talk about cyberspace as a place that really exists right? All I want you to do is to describe how cyberspace(Nairaland, Facebook, et al) looks like and how the people that reside in it look like. Isn't it funny that you keep talking about a place you've never visited, never seen, a place you cannot even describe . . . . . . .
I don't know weather to laugh or cry at your very ridiculous analogy. When did I talk about any cyberspace at all? I can fully describe how nairaland and face book look like. Let me describe to you how nairaland looks like. The website has colours like, blue and grey, You can see alphabetical characters, and some images when you visit the site, you can see people's user names. People do not reside on nairaland. Pls describe to me how the mythical kingdom of darkness looks like, who are the people that reside there, how do they look and what is their estimated population.

The same way you assume  the kingdom of darkness noetic2 refers to is a figment of her imagination, is the same way Nairaland is a figment of your imagination.
Nairaland is not a figment of my imagination because I can actually come here and interact with you and other people, How does one interact with the people that live in this mythical kingdom of darkness? What type of clothes do they wear in that kingdom and where is the kingdom located?

do you know or you believe that God exists? facts are known not believed because doubt is inherent in every belief. in all religions, a theist is not given an opportunity explore other religions or beliefs but rather conditioned to accept that particular religion. that why a shi'ite child would flog himself to near death during the mourning of the massacre of Mohammed's grandson husayn . someone he has never known not to speak an intimate relationship. religions distort reality. atheist assertion is based on man's vast base of scientific knowledge not on belief or philosophy. have tried other religions?
The problem with the religionist is that they go around bandying their stories, myths and beliefs as facts or "truths" when they are not. The truth is the truth and it does NOT require belief at all. . . .

Christianity Etc › Re: Where Was God During The Rwandan Genocide ? by mazaje(m): 11:38pm On Dec 01, 2009
davidylan:
Oh dear . . . where does one begin? Judah and Simeon were 2 of the 12 sons of Jacob . . . they were part of the original Israelites who went down into Egypt to live with Joseph. After Joseph's death (we assume Judah and Simeon who were far older than Joseph would have died by now), the Isrealites became slaves to Egypt for over 450 yrs . . . add another 40 yrs in the wilderness before Joshua took over as the leader of Israel.

How is it possible that Judah and Simeon (who would have been over 500 yrs old by now!) were the 2 whom God was sending to battle the Canaanites? Seriously do these folks READ THE BIBLE BEFORE THEY EJACULATE THEIR RIDICULOUS COMMENTS?

Lets read further down Judges 1 . . .

8 Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire. 9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

TWICE in verses 8 and 9, the author of Judges tries to clarify that it was NOT Judah the individual doing the fighting but his descendants. Further down we also see lands captured by the descendants of Jacob, brothers to Judah and Simeon.

Verse 22 - House of Joseph
Verse 30 - Zebulun
Verse 31 - Asher . . .

No seriously i give up. This has got to be a case of either intellectual incompetence or deliberate dishonesty.

No it DOES NOT.

It is clearly an allegory, even a fool knows Judah could not have lived for over 500 yrs and gone to war single-handedly to drive out the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

As regards your pointless nonsense i put in highlights . . . please read Exodus 19 rather than making a fool of yourself.
I was just trying to make a simple point. Here is a clearer translation of the passage. . .

Jdg 1:1 After Joshua died, the Israelites asked the LORD, "Which tribe should attack the Canaanites first?"
Jdg 1:2 The LORD answered, "Judah, for I have given them victory over the land."
Jdg 1:3 The leaders of Judah said to their relatives from the tribe of Simeon, "Join with us to fight against the Canaanites living in the territory allotted to us. Then we will help you conquer your territory." So the men of Simeon went with Judah.
Jdg 1:4 When the men of Judah attacked, the LORD gave them victory over the Canaanites and Perizzites, and they killed ten thousand enemy warriors at the town of Bezek.

This translation from the NLT settles it. . . .The people of Israel asked Yahweh which tribe to go and fight against the Canaanites and he told them that the tribe of Judah was to go. . . .The people asked him according to the text and he answered them. . . How then did he answer them if not through a public address. . .The passages does not say a priest or a prophet was involved. . . .It says the people asked and yahweh answered. . . .

Same old stupid conclusions . . . lets use a few examples from the same chapter in Judges . . .

Judges 1: 2 And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand. 3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

On face value, or reasoning like Mazaje . . . it would seem God was specifically requesting Judah (as an individual) to go fight the Canaanites. Judah then requests the help of his brother Simeon. The problem though is that by this time, both Judah and Simeon had long died! It would also be meaningless to assume that 2 men alone went off to fight an entire army of Canaanites!
See you are adding to the text and saying what it does NOT say in other to rationalize the story. Where does it say in the text that Judah and Simeon were long dead? What do you mean by it would be meaningless to assume that two people alone fought an army of canaanites, I thought samson killed lost of men with only a piece of bone ? The text says that they went and killed the others and they had victory over them because yahweh had already promised them victory. It doesnt talk about them being long dead does it?

Jdg 1:3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
Jdg 1:4 And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

Infact rather than a request to a person called Judah . . . God was asking the men of the lineage of Judah to war and they in turn requested the company of the tribe of Simeon.
This supports what I said that Yahweh addressed them publicly. . . .

This is just an example to show that some things in the bible are allegorical and are not to be taken literarily. God spoke to the Jews primarily through prophets and Judges.
You choose to read it as an allegory another christian might not read it as that. By the way what is the basis for accepting a story as an allegory? The text does not give any indication as to that. The same bible also said that Yahweh addressed the Jews together at mount Sinai through a public address. . . .

Jdg 1:1 After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the LORD, "Who will be the first to go up and fight for us against the Canaanites?"

bla, bla and more bla from you. Half-truths couched in tendentious sentences.
Like I said earlier if you are going to base your answers on the bible, at least get it right? How can you critique a book that you repeatedly demonstrate abysmal knowledge of? God did not address all the people living in Israel (which would be the geographic location) through a public speech. He addressed the people assembled at Mount Sinai, which is outside the borders of Israel. If you cannot truthfully present facts you disagree with, how can we be such that you are being honest in all your replies?
This was not directed at me but there are quite a number of places where yahweh addressed the people of Israel through a public speech. Yahweh is said to have addressed the jews at mount Sinai so what difference does it make?

Jdg 1:1 After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the LORD, "Who will be the first to go up and fight for us against the Canaanites?"

Jdg 1:2 The LORD answered, "Judah is to go; I have given the land into their hands."

Mazaje, if you know anything about Islam, the stoning and indeed the whole of hajj, except Arafat, everything is in memory of Ibrahim (AS), his son Ismail (AS) and Wife Hajar.

Now the stoning is exactly what the parents did, when Ismail was being led to slaughter, in fulfilment of the dream of Ibrahim (AS). Ibrahim repelled the deil who was trying to talk him out of carrying out the slaughter. When the devil knew he wasnt getting anywhere, he turned to Hajar, thinking that he will break her will, the nurturing of mother may kick in. To the devils demise he was stoned just as well to repel his evil counsel just as well. Oh, there is no devil in the Kaaba, and if there is, dont you think that will be the place they will be stoning? This is why you are ignorant.

As to you mrpresient, it would have been better if you play the part of an ignorant. But your arrogance will not allow you to be normal human, show that there is weakness in your Islamic knowledge; you dont know everything! Did you not read where I ENCOURAGED him to keep up with his new faith and wished him well? Where did this Foolish fool get the Idea that I was ''trying to kill my self'' huh huh. . . .

Well not just because of his death, but in the manner in which he died, do you know that we did not bury my fathers real body ? that was what made me to hate God, despite all my daddy did for their church.
Again sorry for your lost but that is NOT a reason to become an atheist. . . .People face a lot of tragedy ALL the time. . .There are MANY stories of christian missionaries who died in ghastly motor accidents on their way to evangelize and were burnt beyond recognition all over the internet. . .Atheism is not being a state of anger with god/gods but a lack of belief in god/gods. . .Keep up your new faith if that will give you the happiness you need. . . . I wish you all the best. . . . . wink

Ogaga you are sounding too funny today,  what confusion are you talking about ? and what pressure is it that  could be frustrating me to push me back to God,  perhaps that is yoUr own meaning to it , but not  realLy the truth,  It was actualLy confusion and anger of my fathers death that Pushed me into Atheism, but i regret it, i am back To God now and will not reverse till eternity , I am now a man of faith.
So you became an atheist because you were angry your father died? huh huh. . . Sorry for your loss but that is a very very silly and senseless reason for one to become an atheist. . . Every body must die no?

you dont need salvation. . . . .HELL suits and fits u perfectly. . .  ,  why change your destiny?  shocked shocked
Do you have any evidence for this mythical hell? grin. . . .Heaven and hell both have an apparent straightforward purpose, and that is to motivate people to believe, keep believing and to evangelize to "save" other people according to the religion they subscribe to(Christianity or Islam). It is the carrot-and-stick method of persuasion. The carrot and stick are only imagined, but the proposed reward and punishment are both extreme enough to compensate for the lack of evidence and sensibility of the myth.
