Christianity Etc › Re: Evil Passages In Scriptures - The Bible And The Ko-ran by mazaje(m): 6:15pm On Jul 29, 2008
spirituality or delusion? why do christains and moslems always try to evade complete nonsense and stupidity in the bible and koran by saying that you need sprituality to understand them? and that who so ever that god has blinded or lead astray no body can make him see the light huh huh huh. you guys go about saying that people can not understand things of the spirit because your beliefs have been but into question and doubt. what spirit are you guys talking about? how do u explian or give justification for all the killings, looting and enslavement that god has ordered people to carry out against those that do not believe in him or his people be it the jews or the arabs in the bible and the koran? all you have to your defence is sprit and the lack of understanding of it, what stupid spirit?

how will you feel if your pastor tells you to kill some one because god or allah told him to tell you to do so? instead of trying to explain things through the so called spirit which i believe all of you guys know you can't, u go around spewing rubbish and threating people with perdition. what spirit of understanding do u need when the bible says that snakes eat dust? what spiritual understanding do you need when god oders people to scarifice their animals or children to him? or when god says in some parts of the old testament and in the koran that he hate/dislikes the unbelievers? who created the unbelievers according to the bible and the koran? why give the unbelievers free will and then dislike or hate them for giving them things they never asked for and odering people to kill them on your behalf for their unbelief?

why does god need people to fight for him and kill his enemies or the enemies of his chosen people ? how can the creatures of god be his enemies ? why does god have a chosen people? why did god choose to reveal himself to people of the middle east and not people in china, indai, or the americas? why are there no prophets from china, india or the americas even though they have been in existance during the times of the prophets of the bible and the koran? why should god choose a particular part of the world and a particular group of people and reveal himself to them and not others? does that make sense? if it doesnt then explain to us in spritual terms what you understand by those actions.

I want all you sprit filled people to provide justification through the spirit for us on all the massacres, looting, human scarifice and slavery that were ordered by god in the bible and the koran since the bible states that god does not change and he is the same today, yesterday and forever. or has god changed his nature?

Aburo, I wo papa. What happens to the "proof," that the bible lacks itself, about anything?

Sisi, if raising a person up makes the person qualifies as "god," then we are still having Gods around before Jesus and up till now; Moses raised a man so that he can be reveal his killer. Even the rotten bones of Elisha raised a person up. Could Jesus raise himself up? Think about it babe. Ori eniyan ti o ti ku, to gbera e dide ri, afi pe Olorun Oba lo je ki o dide. My bride was telling a story of her friend who visited Nigeria and got into an accident in Lagos. She was presumed dead and was left in the Morgue, while they are hoping that her family will come for her.

After sometime, maybe a day, longer or shorter, the woman began to talk whereby the morgue workers were attracted enough see what was going on. They took her and rushed her for medical treatment. The pictures of her in a bodybag was seen to show it. Now tell me who is this woman, a Yoruba pharmacist in DC. Is she god too?

Did you like my advise not to die for ayone?

Cheers!
What is wrong with you this blind mohamamed foot soldier? does everything have to be about islam?o boy you are truly blinded by dogma.

@Huxley

I can answer your questions except the last one. I have no idea what cognitive dissonance is, so please educate me. I am always eager to learn from those more knowledgeable than myself.

The problem i have with you is the reasons for asking these questions.
If you are asking because you do not know and want to improve your knowledge, then it is alright.
If you truly know and want to share your knowledge, it is also alright.
But if you ask because you just want to show off, or you think you are better than others, then thats egocentric arrogance, you are not better than religionists who view themselves as superior to everyone else.

A true Evolutionist must NEVER be arrogant, but must understand, appreciate and respect other people beliefs. To most people, their beliefs is their life, so it must be respected. I hate it when people try to ridicule other people beliefs. A person beliefs according to their exposure, education, custom and orientation. You cannot expect someone who has never been to school to understand evolution. Likewise a Christian cannot understand Buddhism.

The world would be a better place if we learn to respect the beliefs of others.
Very very true, i am a non believer in religion my self but i dislike the way huxley goes about attcking people's beliefs and complaining at the same time, to most people as you have aforementioned their belief is their life and their total being revolves around their beliefs, so tread carefully huxley you are gradually becoming a fanatic(athiest fanatic) you can easily make your case without an affront on other people's beliefs. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Christianity Etc › Re: Is Jesus God? by mazaje(m): 12:02am On Jul 27, 2008
Why do you guys waste time arguing about religion? this traditions were inculcated into your minds since when you were kids and your realities, total being and views are all shaped and revolve around these set of traditions and beliefs, christians understand the trinity because the idea and concept has been feed and inculcated into their brains since childhood it makes perfect sense to them and the explanation the bible gives them is very convincing and coherent enough, moslems don't believe in it because the koran tells them never to believe in it, and has given them more than enough reason to see it as a drivel.

Religious arguments is the same things as two people arguing in two different languages. They can never understand each other simple. so enough of all this my god is better than yours or my belief is better than yours endless and meaningless argument. at the end it is just what it is. its is just a belief and there is simply no evidence to show that christainity is better than islam or vice versa so enough of all this crap and bull.

brother,aw did you come into existence?why are you alive? why are you you? what purpose a re you supposed to fulfil on earth?
mazaje,if you can answer this question then i blive that you do know what you are talkin about butare you an aesthetist? did i get the correct spellin?
please let us be realistic, you just don't pop into existence, truly you are correct about most religion being created out of fear but you are wrong about that of Christianity.Bro,be save d before it is too late
I came into existence when my dads semen and my mums ovary fussed together, and the process brought life into me. what purpose am i suppose to fulfill apart from to live my life and be happy and make sure that i always try to do onto others as i will want them to do unto me so that every body in the world will be happy. If god can pop up from no where then humans too can pop up from no where. who created god then? god as i know and understand are the forces of nature that control life here on earth not the god of the arabs(allah),or the god of the chinese (buddah), or jehova the god of the jews, or zeus the greek god or jesus the god of the christains, shirk, palaongon.sango etc if there is a god he wont tell people to do things for him he will do things by himself. if you read the koran and the bible with an open mind you will understand what i am saying god has comamed people to kill, ensalve, cheat and rob each other in both books and yet he claims he is god lol such a god is impossible. i don't want you to believe in what i believe and i don't go about telling people to believe in what i believe but i don't like it when people go around forcing people to believe in what they believe and threatening them with hell if they refuse, what is hell and where is it located? have u ever been to dafur. somalia, burma or some of the east african countries where there is famine and war? have u been to the highly impoverished parts of the world where life has no meaning and people are dying like flies just because they can afford the basic necessities of life? that is hell.
Christianity Etc › Re: Jesus The Only Way: by mazaje(m): 5:28pm On Jul 26, 2008
Why is christianity better than islam? and why should we believe in jehova and not in allah? why should hinduism be discarded? and what make christianity better than shirkism? why is judaism a false religion? and why should we discard it and accept christainity or islam? why are their so many religions embedded within christianity? which is the true christianity? is it Catholicism? or is it anglicanism? is it mormonism? is it seven day adventist? or is it jehova witness? is it protestanism or african christianity( white garment wearing churches, etc)? what sect of islam is the true sect? is it sunni or shia, bahi or what? why are there so many religions in the world? and what makes jesus the only way? only way to what or where? where is jesus? have u ever seen him? is he black or white? why should prophet mohammeds teaching not be taken seriously? why should people discard buddah's teachings? where is god? why are people killing each other because of religion and god? why do people hate each other because of faith and religion? how do u know that only christains are going to heaven? where is heaven? where is hell? what is hell? where is prophet mohammed? why does every religion profess the key to eternal happiness?

All religions were created out of the fear of the many and the cleverness of a few.

Religion is equated to morality in Nigeria and most part of the developing world, when i told my mum that most people in Finland do not believe in god the first thing that came out of her mouth was, how then can they be good? Most Nigerians equate religion with morality and its just so sad.

I agree with your post.

HOPE is a very powerful thing and this is what religion provides.

Can you imagine a world where there is no hope bad people will get their comeuppance and good people their rewards?

Every year, millions of people flood revival grounds and conventions seeking one thing. . . a sign that will tell them their latter will be greater than the former and this is what keeps them going.
Very true. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Yes, its very possible to be spiritual but still lack knowledge. A very tragic example is the recent generator mishap where so many people lost their lives because they didnt know the dangers of inadequate ventilation when using a generator.

I'm surprised no one has raised the question yet of why God didnt prevent it from happening- after all, they were all there for a prayer meeting/exorcism/deliverance session. May they RIP.

I don't know of any single recorded instance where Jesus told his followers to abandon common sense for mumbo-jumbo, the way many people here on Nairaland especially, misread, misquote and misyarn whenever they think they have the key to heaven's gate. undecided

Neither is anyone querying why, with all the religiousness in Nigeria, corruption is still so deeply entrenched in the society. People are abusing the civil leaders but crying and cursing whenever their favorite religious figures are queried. Even the ones fleeing the country as a result of poverty, will still insist there's nothing wrong with religion in Nigeria. undecided

I chose the pseudo Morpheus for the very reason being that he was the god of sleep in Greek mythology.

in my impression Logic is not the only tool in understanding the universe around us and our place or existence in it. Spirituality is another tool. Spirituality stems from religion but is not confined to its rederick.

Spirituality is as fluid as logic in that it is not confined by Dogma and can be truly experienced on many levels and Its when man starts labeling it as this or that ,thats when we get into trouble. Until it can be explained by logical interpretations it must remain in this state of the "super" natural as it is cannot be grasped as yet by our understanding.

In other words when one can absolutely without a shred of doubt convince me there does not exist supernatural beings on different plains of existence then I'lll accept that fact and move on with life.

Till then I remain a skeptic on both sides.
I completely agree with this statement, but i will like to know if you are a believer of religion.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Social Effects Of Religious Beliefs In Nigeria. by mazaje(m):
I am a non believer in religion, but i still believe that religion is necessary in some parts of the world because it provides some kind of comfort to its adherents and gives them some kind of solace,in lawless societies like Nigeria where people live like animals(survival of the fittest) religion always serves as a refuge for the poor, helpless and hopeless masses who are ignorant of so many things and who might not have any other thing to keep their mind, body and soul intact. religion provides them with some comfort in the belief of life in a beautiful and lovely place after death, it has mostly been used as a means of exploitation in Nigeria but what else do you expect the poor masses to rely on. Religion has failed but most people fail to see it and will forever be providing excuses for it, it has failed to accomplish its main task of providing peace, security, progress and justice to most of its adherents, it has been responsible for most killings, looting, deceit, slavery, repression, wars, division, complacency and oligarchy in the world but i personally believe it is still a necessary evil, All religions were created out of the fear of the many and the cleverness of a few.

I saw on the TV the other day as i was flipping channels a mo'slem man from yemen, who said he was taken on his sick be to the world beyond where he meet the prohpet mo'hammed who showed him the gates of heaven and hell from a distance, he described in details what he saw and was weeping profusely as he was sharing his testimony, he said he saw the angels but he was'nt allowed to see all'ah because he has'nt been chosen to enter paradise because only those that are in paradise have the previlage of seeing all'ah. the guy also said that the doctors had already decleared him dead and one of the doctors came on air together with him and corroborated his story because there were two doctors in the room with him at the time when he was sick in the hospital and they both decleared him dead, he said that he came back to life inside the car when his body was on its way home for burial(about 5 hours after he had been pronounced dead by the doctors), his brother also corroborated that story too, i have heard about christains who have claimed to have been to heaven and meet jesus and the angles, if there really is a god then which is it? christian(jehova) , mo'slem(all'ah), jewish(Yaweh), hindu(idols), buddhdist(i don't know what they subscribe to) or what? since all the religions claim that their way is the only way to life while all other ways lead to hell. it wont be suprising if there are buddhist monks or jewish rabi's who are also making the claim of going to heaven and seeing  god  and the god they saw or meet is the same god that their religion subscribes to.

Nigeria is dying because of religion, its the bane of most of our problems, a good look at the christain or mo'slem faith will tell you that the different sects of both religions are all out to make and maximise profits while decieving the people and promising false hope in the process, i was in Austria some weeks ago and i was suprised with what i saw most of the people don't believe in any god or gods but the place is what many nigerians will picture or imagine as heaven, Nigeria is dying and will continue to die because of religion, any thing that man needs to do must be done by man himself simple. . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . .
