Yinkay: Osogbo Oroki Asala....Ilu Aro(Home of dyeing) a city reknown for its dyeing, arts and culture industry. The location where the Yoruba army finally truncated the Fulani expansionist ambition. My Great-Great-Grand-Father(I don't know how many generations actually) popular known as 'Jinadu Aisado' was the the brave warrior that truncated 'the Fulani expansionist ambistion'. He was a mercinery from Oyo. He was made to settle in Osogbo for the fear of the return of the Fulanis. And ever since, we have remained an indigene of Osogbo. A fight occured sometimes ago at our compound and someone called one of my cousins a bastard Osogbo indigene. That was what brought about the story. otherwise we wouldn't have known our origin. My grand parents (then) treatened to relocate back to our 'ori-run' in Oyo. As a matter of fact, the Alafiin was in wait to receive us. But the then Ataoja (the 3rd) pleaded for us not to leave and compensated us with 24 hectares of land at 'Oke-Bale', which is being presently encroached by unauthorised persons. THE POWER OF HISTORY Let children know about your origin because someday, someone will ask them 'ta ni baba e n'le yi' - who are your fathers in this town (litera meaning) |
omodapson: In whatever we do, our relationship with God should be first, while religion should follow. God was before any religion, religion is only the creation of human beings and it is at best an element of segregation. If we believe that everything God creates is good, then the question of hate will disappear and tolerance will be embraced through and through.Just my own opinion. Walecole74: I agree with ur position on this issue.I second your opinion. God first in our thought. |
abbey621: @Poster - Coming to Nairaland and raising religious tensions won't solve anything, neither would your gentle words of encouragement for Muslims to take action. Nigeria is a messed up country and the people are responsible for their own sufferings, we all can blame religion all we want but whenever we decide to get back to reality, we would realize that the problem is greed, corruption and the cowardliness of our Nigerian people. Only in Nigeria do we protest name change, fuel prices and other menial issues and leave more crucial issues like violence, corruption and economy behind. Any country in which the people are not willing to die for their freedom is bound to fall. The central bank is busy introducing monetary policies that will triple inflation by creating a 5,000 naira note, our president is ensuring that more terrorists would emerge in the future by negotiating with extremists, more and more people are being killed by the death traps known as Nigerian roads and aviation industry and yet, we blame religion and yet we still see each other as Muslims and Christians instead of brothers and sisters, it is easier to blame the person from another religion instead of tackling the government, Nigeria needs a REVOLUTION not a religious SOLUTION.I agree with you. The problem is more of our social values than religion. The religion thing is just to divert our attention to something else. This country is going to take its place of pride the moment we able to defy the guns and jackboot of the soldiers by taking to the street to protest more germaine issues like corruption like you said. otherwise, we'll continue in our vicious cycle of poverty. |
I lost two pieces of N1000 notes today. Imagine if those were to be N5000? I for hear am today. |
ovo4u: @ TopicYou see my brother, I understand your frustration and I feel your pain. It's quiet unfortunate that we find ourself in this kind of situation, very unfortunate. But let me tell you something. From what I know of this BH issue, comments like this is a sign to the perpetrators of the evil that they are afterall achieving their aim and aspirations. Because, as a matter of fact, the intention is to sow disension amongst us as one Nigerian. I know it's quiet difficult to do or easier said than done. I would rather advice that you see BH and their sponsors as our collective enemy: who will let our business thrive, maim our brothers and so o. The list is endless. Please accept my sympathy if you have ever fallen victim of the evil deeds. May Allah in His Mercy grant you the fortitude to bear the loss. Peace be upon you. |
Ramadan ...For Peaceful Co-ExistenceMuslims throughout the world today celebrate the end of Ramadan, following the completion of fasting for one month as ordained by Allah. They stand purified in their soul and body as they had undergone a series of disciplinary process of controlling the self. For a Muslim, fasting is not complete by starving from dawn to dusk alone. He should avoid all sinful acts and personify himself with noble qualities of forgiveness, patience, tolerance, generosity and inclination towards humanitarian deeds and needs. On completion of the fast, a Muslim have reaped rich dividends from Allah that should make him/her more strong in accomplishing the task of building the society. The task of achieving peace and creating an environment that people of all communities, ethnic nationalities and tribes will be ensured of sufficient safeguards to their life, property, dignity, and honour, besides facilitating the fulfillment of their needs and aspirations. Our personal point of belief (all of us at AKSIUM NIG) is that the ritual of fasting that paves way to a pious and prosperous life is not a mere observance carried out by obeying Almighty Allah's Orders. Rather, it should be made use of as a cultural bridge that nurtures goodwill among everyone in this country, so that we all can live in peaceful co-existence in the long run. This is a big role of responsibility upon every one of us in this country. So, it is our sincere hope that we may all have power and the courage towards achieving the worthy cause of strengthening the wall of peaceful co-existence among us. Happy Eid Celebration. Pukkah: Some things here are as clear as daylight:the bolded at No 9 said it all. and it is burtressed by the bolded below don't understand;can't the government license new marketers who are willing to play by the rules;revoke the licences of existing ones who're blackmailing the govt and if they go to court, govt can adduce evidence(at least we keep on hearing about an audit carried out and the indictments made by the "committee"set up to investigate the subsidy payments) to prove breach of contract on the part of the marketers. I believe the foregoing should be done rather than let a few selfish individuals hold a nation to ransom, because the danger is that, if this so called negotiation is done, then anybody or institution with a bit of leverage on the govt will just hold the nation to ransom everytime.same thought here too. |
Mabbey: Wat if it isn't sighted again 2moro? ...fasting continues...lolNo. tomorrow is definately the last day of Ramadan since it is the 30th day. lol |
We had arrived London riding on the wave of a short but intensive trainingOlympic medal are not won on short training, it takes years of preparation to win medals. we have had one of our best preparations coming into this competition in recent yearsthat couldn't have been true. best preparation and yet no medal? what about '92 and '96 We shall therefore not attempt any excuses or indulge in any unproductive blame game. Rather than see this as a failurewhat else or how else will you see it if not failure. I think the most honourable thing to do for this man is to resign. but that's not in our culture. |
Olodostein: Do not hate the player, hate the game.Leave them ... dem no dey tell blind man say war don start. Nonsense! What's the big deal in driving truck with your degree? Does going to school mean we all must work in an AC filled office? You see, that's the worst mentality we bring out of the university whereas we are not taught any skill other than just book book, cramming to pass exam and after exam nothing dey head again. how many of our graduates can hit the ground running without being trained. Na graduates we get for this country abi just counting the numbers? I hear you! |
Taiw: After seeing the Dangote graduate driver recruitment advert, I said to myself that this man must be silly for disrespecting unemployed graduates in Nigeria. I cant imagine a Bsc or Hnd holder as a truck driver. Well I can only blame our leader for making him run a monopoly market and not providing jobs for our youths. After 4-5yrs in school, you den become a truck driver. Dangote is crazy. Nigeria is decaying gradually. For your information, you can't be a carb driver in Canada except you are a graduate. By the way, do you know how much each of those trucks cost? So, you expect a business manager to hand a 25million naira truck, bought on loan, to an illiterate? This clearly shows that you do not even know what you went to do in school in the first place. So, if you were a manager in Dangote, and after securing loans to buy trucks you will then hand it over to 'qwack' drivers, isn't it? By the way, do you know the number of accidents that would've been avoided if some educated drivers had been manning the wheels of these trucks? Come to think of it, what solution do you suggest for the massive unemployment of the country's graduate? Is it where you work that matters or being able to eat from your own sweat? I pity all of you condeming this action ... try to set up your own business then, abi dem hold huna? |
airfinance: I don't know why we nigerians are just to sentimental and tribalisistic when it comes to making comment and supporting who has erred in one or the other. Let's us all be civil and forget about personal religion social and ethnic differences. This man has liquidated intercontinental bank having stolen billions of naira depositors money.the judgement given in the UK is basic and should be applauded. Nigeria judicial system is corrupt, this same man was said to have bin cleared in Nigeria of corrupt practices. I am speaking as a youba man. He deserves to be put behind bars for the rest of his life. OLEThat's Niger for you ... always tribalistic in everything. Nonsense!!! |
It is very disheartning to hear and see educated people reason this way ... little wonder the country is not making progress in every facets of its life. A court of competent jurisdiction has given judgement against someone for criminally enriching himself, and we are here finding excuises for him?! Hmmm!!! Na wa o! |
whealthy: Falana said "vicariously liable"... It is a principle of law in which the master is held to be jointly or severally responsible for the acts of his servant in a master servant relationship, once the act that injures the victim falls within the duty delegated to the servant.. For instance, your sErvant drives and knocks down a person, the person can sue you or your driver or both of your for compensation.Well, in as much as I do not support Fash on this one, I buy your arguement, particularly the bolded and underlined part because as a matter of fact, Fash does not control the police. the command of the police is not under him because we have a centralised police. So, there couldn't have been a master/servant relationship between them. Be that as it may, and like you rightly said, it is only a competent court of jurisdiction that can determine that. mine is just an academic exercise. thank you sir for the exposee |

Okija_juju: Whats that Yoruba SAN saying this time around?! "As the unlawful killing and the wilful destruction of properties were carried out on the directive of the Lagos State Government, the latter should be held vicariously liable in the circumstance," he said.can you see the above? that's why the governor is responsible. the yoruba SAN is making sense. dust your GNS text book sir. |
Like someone rightly said on this platform, that it is the supporter of President Obama that criticises him the most. Not for anyhting, but to tell him the truth at all times. I'm an ardent supporter of Fashola, but I can not open my eyes to brazen unlawfulness. Mr. Gov., you goofed on this one adn you need to be told the truth. |
tpia@:the one that should concern us most is that 20.04% passed maths and english, with at leaset three subjects. that's a far cry from being a good performance by all standards, because what it means is that the remaining percentage of 80.06% will have to retake the exam. even if someone had all the credits in this world, withour english and maths ... no show! |
texazzpete: This has nothing to do with 'keeping the law' you accursed m0r0n! How the heck can you fine someone N20000 for something as nebulous as 'failure to obey traffic control'? So for example the state can fine you N20k for failing to spot an imperceptible hand gesture...and you can be sure those touts in LASTMA will try their best to abuse this system. It also means that if you mistakenly enter a poorly labeled One-way street in an area you're unfamiliar with, the state can seize your 2010 Camry you took loan to buy..even if you just drive 3 metres into the one-way street before seeing the craftily concealed signs, you're in danger of losing your vehicle PERMANENTLY!I understand every bit of your response but the part i don't undertand is the name calling. What have i done to deserved being called a slowpoke according to you? is it now a crime to have a different opinion? I quiet agree with you with the boldened but you lost my respect the moment you donw graded yourself to the level of name calling. Only if you had you know... Anyway, i would rather advice that you exercise some decorioum when next you hit the keyboard, okay? be a goodboy. have a nice time. God bless you my son/daughter |
Biggyd2: Laudable bill but the punishment/ penalties are wrong. Harsh if you ask me. And let us be frank with ourselves- who will the law if passed apply to? The poor masses or the makers and the breakers of this law? That's the only way you can get people to comply. You have nothing to be scared of sofar you keep your side of the deal ... don't brake the law. If there had been laws and are being implemented, we woundn't have been in this mess with our legislathieves and executhieves at all levels. |
luvinhubby: This is gross INSANITY, 3rs & $350 for traffic violation. Where else in the whole wide world is this applicable. Reptyle: Where else in the world do people disobey traffic laws with such impunity as we do in Lagosthank you. that was a good response to a very silly post like the above. Someone even said the fine should be reduced to 5000, so that he will be able to afford it whenever he brakes the law, isn't it? If you don't fall on the wrong side of the law, you don't have any business going to jail or being afraid. the law is only a deterent mechanism to those who will not listen. simply. |
Kobojunkie: No, that is not what he is saying.I agree with you totally. But mind your use of language next time. |
There was a time any black person picked up in Saudi Arabia was deported to Nigeria. It was when they got to Nigeria that they started posting them to their respective countries. Some where even from as far as the Caribbean . Abi, na we be the most populous black nation on earth, so? why dem no go push every black man come here ![]() |
Demdem: If Nigerians werent optimistic, they wouldnt have given the man without a shoe the mandate at the polls. Why didnt he create these series of committees before subsidy removal? Why increasing the burden on the populace and now admitting now that the main reason why the burden was placed is simply fraudulent in the first place and yet havent apologised. Of cos he doesnt care. he told us on Live TV that he does not give a damn.Initially, I didn't want to comment on this issue but I can't resist not responding to your point. The underline was a great one; very incisive. Puntures whatever Beaf and any of his comrades has to say. Oya, over to you, BEAF and Co. |
In UNILAG, it's 3250 plus result checker, past question and i don't know what. It's just a way of finding food for the boys. What's the school's business in offering and selling past questions? Though, they said it's optional but no bank on campus will sale to you without paying for past question and result checker. for 9ja, na we dey do ourself |
when it was time to appoint the university bursar of a very popular federal university in the south-west, two people were qaulified for the job. Mr. B was higher in rank above Mr. A interms of level and rank. But Mr. A was chosen over Mr. B because Mr. A had a B.Sc in accounting while the other (i.e. Mr. B) had a HND even though both were chartered accountants (ICAN). Does that say something about anything? I want to think that may be if it this scenero were to be repeated in the polytechnic setting, may be it would have been the other way round. Or what do you think? Even though I'm not an accounting student, I have passed through the two system (YABATECH AND UNILAG) and I know the difference: I really learnt a lot in Yaba than Lag when we talk about Maths/Statistics. |
Keneking: Pls read in-between the lines. Look at the last paragraph of the letter from the palace. Who were they refering to? |
Musiwa2: you say the most judge become CJN you said. but they get rip of other ethnic group to make sure their ethnic group is the most senior is that fair..So, how do you intend to break it up? Syrian style or what? God purnish you!!! |
Nosa-Henry:what are you saying in essence, that her action is not worthy of being emulated? Would you please elaborate further on what you mean? Thanks |
Sometimes in 1993 or there about, the famous novelist, Jeofree Archer, and a member of the British House of Lords, was jailed for three years for lying. The fact of the matter is that he failed to return part of his travelling estacodes having slept free of charge in his friend's hotel. The prosecution argued that he was suppose to return the money back to goverment purse since he didn't spend it for the purpose it was meant for. Read your meaning to that. |
lexio: on Electricity:You took the world out of my mouth. That's what I was about saying. In addition, he has shown that he's really 'on top of the situation' in the state. He knows what is going on every sector of the state's gorvernance, which shows that his team are really briefing him. And talking about answering all questions with sense of responsibility, let me call your attention to a statement he made during his state broadcast at the time of the fuel subsidy palava then: we take responsibility for our failure to save lives and property ... which led to the death of a young man at Ogba-Oluwole (he then mentioned the boy's name, who was shot by a DPO)". That was responsible leadership. This is what we want in a leader, who when he speaks on national issues, on what we elect him to do, we'll feel the pain he himself his going through in bringing us the dividends of democracy. Not a "I don't give a damn" president. That was very unpresidential, irrespective of whatever anyone says. |

Is it not GROSS INSANITY to drive against traffic on a major expressway like Apapa - Oshodi road
.
