Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka , has called for the immediate sack of the Chief Imam of the National Mosque in Abuja, Ibrahim Maqari.
Naija News recalls that a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, Deborah Samuel , was lynched to death and burnt over alleged blasphemy.
Following the sad incident, the Islamic cleric insinuated that Deborah was responsible for her death by crossing one of the red lines of Islam.
In a tweet via his Twitter handle, Maqari said if Muslim grievances are not properly addressed, then Nigerians should not be criticized for addressing them themselves.

Reacting, Soyinka described Maqari’s statements as unfortunate and sad, adding that the cleric has backed the killing of the female student with his words.

The playwright also stated that the Islamic cleric has directed his followers to take laws into their own hands through his comments

Soyinka stated these on Saturday during the launch of the biography of the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru , in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
He, therefore called for the removal of the cleric from office, saying that he does not deserve to hold any position following his unfortunate comments.

He said:“To anyone who cares to listen, Maqari has implicitly directed his followers to take the law into their own hands in the name of religion, and in a nation beset on all sides by wars of ultra-nationalism and religious fanaticism.

“That is the message of a supposedly holy man to youths, to us, his message to a nation embroiled in madness of multiple insurgencies.

“The young woman, Deborah, he declared, deserved her death. This mullah, allegedly a man of learning, since his name is professorially captioned, says that there is a line, a red line that none of us must cross, no matter who we are, what we think, profess or value.”

Soyinka called on Nigerians to desist from extending their religious predispositions beyond constitutional legitimacy, adding that the law should be allowed to take its course.

“So there we are arbitrary lines crisscrossing, drawn by individuals and constituencies of beliefs and non-beliefs, of power and aspirants of power. Nowhere do the belligerents profess the common constitutional line and the boundaries of legitimate conduct that supposedly define the imperatives of cohabitation and respect for a human commonality known as – life.

“It is time for all group interests to draw their lines, to decide where they intersect with others, where they run parallel, and where they diverge and/or snarl into a chaotic maze. If Professor Grand Imam Maqari can draw a line in blood, the rest of the community of equal rights must proceed to draw their own, but they will do so in less primitive, bloodthirsty mode, in full respect of human dignity.

“That apostate of the creed of humanity, Professor Maqari, must be removed from office. It is no longer sufficient for all to declaim that Islam is this and that, that the Sharia is thus and thus, that Prophet Mohammed set this or that example and made this or that humanistic pronouncement,” he added.

I remember one day at Redemption Camp.

After the service around 2am, I went inside the prayer foyer to relax. Laid beside a socket and plugged my newly bought phone. I don't know where that sleep just came from. Just 2mins doze ...

As I opened my eyes, say I should check my phone and chat small, it was the charger I found.
I don't know whether to cry or shout. I was speechless for like 5mins.
But the joy was it was not only my phone they stole, it was a mass theft .

I saw one married man crying that his laptop, wallet and phone have been stolen just after sleeping for some minutes, so many people like that.
Omo, I just removed the charger, sat down and cry my own cry too.

I trekked from Shimawa to almost half of the road before I saw someone who helped me to the main gate. I was stranded because my tf back to Ibadan was inside the phone pouch. I stayed for like 5haaas, before I saw one Trailer who helped me to Ibadan.

Since then, I never trust anyone in church again.

And I had a similar bad experience doing mine, though a little contrary because I and my room mate were the one whose phones were stolen.

We shared a lodge with the indigen family who owns our lodge. We came back after our Wednesdays cds to sensitise the prisoners in their local neighborhood prison. We slept and woke up seeing our noisy door net hung by a stood. Our then new infinix phone stolen already.

Till today I still find the sleep on that night as a misery, because there is no way both of us would sleep so heavily without reacting to their operation in our room.

Our neighbors promised us they would find the phones and the thieves via a fetish means, but it later died down when they discovered that one of their relatives were involved. And if they went on with the process it would be very catastrophic.
Though this happened somewhere close to Niger state.

We also had a Catholic priest as our principal, he came and scold the landlord but all futile.

Hmmm I can remember my dad seriously frowned at me leaving the house probably because I'm his only son. I sincerely felt sorry for him but, sir this is my life, we need to not let emotions get the better of us. After spending 5 years in University (Assu factor), I can't see myself coming back to that house, it actually looked like a plague to me at the time.

My mum on the other hand wasn't like my dad, she was the one even discussing with me during my final year on how I was going to get myself an accommodation outside our home to be independent and get on a good track.

I've seen what happens to victims of romance scam and all sort. I felt too emotionally struggling to hold tears back. Their lives is never thesame. An old grandpa or grandma that you dupe of his/her life savings will mostly have a trauma issue and have their lifetime cut short

So, I've been thinking about this for a longer while now, then I came across a similar discussion on a platform. Hence I feel like I should share it with you guys.

As we all know there are a whole lot of insecurities going on in Nigeria now, just that we mostly narrow it down to life insecurity alone, which I believe our present predicament is way beyond.

Amongst them are food insecurity, life insecurity, marriage insecurity, properties insecurity, job insecurity and the list goes on and on.

But my area of interest is that of a job insecurity. As we all know how scholars, most especially graduates struggles to meet the end needs as a result of an increasing unemployment index from time to time at the expense of the commoners, the less connected individuals and the likes.

However, I have seen a graduate earned as low as 7k to 10k. And they held on to the job since their are no forthcoming opportunities to subtitute with.

So, what responsibility would that ridiculous salary cater for in this present economy? Or for how long would the person keep suffering and enduring the chain of time with 7 to 10k?. These are the questions I keep asking myself.

So, without streching this write up too far, I would like to ask this:
