jimi4us:You said more than this about Saraki. At last the private citizen defeated the Senate President out of office. |
Eze Eri, a more paramount King in Iboland than Obi of Onitsha visited Ife recently to see the ancient house left behind by his ancestors and he did not say anything to the contrary after the visit. If it worked on Eri I guess the deception is solid. . Why is Oku or Uko, whatever his name, bitter? Why this lamentation? |
linsa, Put this "amunity" into use in Yoruba or put a Note underneath and clarify the connection. Thanks ![]() |
May his soul rest in peace! |
Thanks. I need something like this |
Sanusi is blessed with powerful presence. A good man....but he has been unlucky with politicians, as far back with Abacha. May his reign last long! |
When it comes to assault rifles Russia always lead the innovation. Check Russian gun dealer websites for update. |
I am listing words in Yoruba lexicon which were not borrowed or donated but coincide in spelling, meaning and sense with words in English language. This is just an opening, I have many words to add to the list as time progresses. Feel free to add if you know some. Olu would love this exercise. ![]() See reason for modification in following posts below. Ori - Ore (natural deposits extracted for commercial profit, like iron ore. There are also non-metallic ores) Note - If mineral extract comes from plants Yoruba call it "ori". If extracted from animal Yoruba call it "ora"; and from fruits Yoruba call it "oro". Iduro - Endure Ehin - Behind Parada - Paradox Bode - Border Ibudo - Abode Agogo - Gong Agboniregun - Aborigene Note- Egungun in Yoruba, is the orisha or deity of the ancestor, is cognate with gene, an English word for ancestry. Oregun - Origin Okun - Ocean Osun - Rose Note - Yoruba's Osun (Camwood) is noted to have the same alchemy properties as high altitude roses. They have same color too. This is different from the Rose specie grown at sea level or low altitude. Irin - Iron Tere - Terre Note - Tere in Yoruba, to spread or sprawl on ground. Ife - Life Foriji - Forgive Note - Foriji in other Yoruba dialects could be written as Dariji Imole - Illum Bowo - Bow (Bow to greet or pay respect) Akoko - Clock Note - Akuko was the timekeeper in the era of our ancestors. English called it C0ck, as in C0ck Crow. Akuko - C0ck Mundia - Maiden Akoro - Coronet Esin - Sin Note - We worship (Esin) as a ritual to cast away Sin. Karawun - Crown Bante - Pant Ike - Care Pa - Part Awo - Law Note - The practice of Law used to be exclusive and practitioners went through initiation rites to belong in Lodges and Inns to learn ethos and philosophies of man and society. Ise - Use Sifila - Civil Note - As a sign of respect Yoruba men of old, on coming in contact or vicinity with another man of repute (by age, status or title), will remove their head covering (fila) as a courtesy to, and acknowledgement of, the individual. Thi is an old practice that we no longer observe. In Western world it is still common to see men attend civilly to one another by taking off hat....or merely touching the tip symbollically. Ipo - Posit Ake - Axe Oro - Word Sare - Race Tobi - Robe .....To be continued |
Where was this? Are these not Ibos sitting on the floor? This is my first time ever seeing Ibo sit on ground. They sit awkwardly, its not a familiar position for them. They even look awkward.

Nobody asks him to apologize. Lagos is greater than Kaduna and far more politically advanced and complex than Kaduna. In Lagos Rufai will not win councillorship because his values will not match the aspirations of Lagos to promote diversity. We do not elect bigots and arrogant people that are insensitive to demographic make up of their state. Rufai should watch the direction he faces when next he needs to slime in the mouth. |
Casptainspecial:He is looking for a big fish to spar with to get credits but he will be sparring with Oluomo dem, not Tinubu. Tinubu has put people in places Rufai can never get to. |
Tinubu does not need to say a word....his soldiers alone will finish Rufai slimy mouth. Nobody needs to do any worse, but he needs to know next time what direction to face when he speaks. |
omohayek:I go go Oshodi for your case o! ![]() |
Its not just roads, we have plenty drivers even on good roads that are too daring and negligent of road signs and they end up killing other road users. If roads are bad then more care and caution with patience is required. Improper car maintenance also contribute. After sitting on rusted metal chair few times and getting your white garment stained you learn to improvise and protect your garment next time you sit on same chair. Its called reasoning. We need to reason through this and not blame roads everytime. |
I thought Eze Eri, the descendant of Gad himself just visited Ile Ife and concluded with Ooni that Igbos originated from Ife. Which one be Israel again? |
obembet:Obembet, can i be your mugu? You be my Tonto Dike. ![]() |
But Nigeria was in peace until Iboman picked up gun and ruined it. Heaven will not answer Nwobodo's declaration because it is made in vain. |
Princedapace:Correct! They did not, this is bad on their part; but SS needs money and it has a huge structure that can attract and sustain economic growth, so what should SS do to bring in money to the region? We can all see that even Ogun state with no oil is beating SS. If Lagos was keeping its VAT instead of remitting to FG it would be capable of bailing out Nigeria as a whole. Without it it stands a chance to bail out 30 states, that's monumental! If you obtain the accounts and reports of colonial government in Nigeria and read some of the budgets and expenses reports you will see where the colonials abandoned Gold Coast and settled on Lagos as the main money maker for British expansion and administration all over West Africa. They declared in their report back home that Lagos could surpass both Liverpool and Manchester combined in volume of trade and revenue at the rate its mercantile prospects was looking. Liverpool and Manchester both being the main port and hub for industrialized and mercantile England at the time. Before the colonials, have you read the Letters of Kosoko, an old king of Lagos? Have you read about Madam Tinubu, Iyalode of Egba and her trade in Lagos? Have you read about Ijebu water tolls and how the Ijebus monopolized right of way and ended up the wealthiest Yoruba group in the times before colonial government? Go into history and experience independent Lagos before all these nonsense called Nigeria. Nigeria is a joke as far we are concerned in Lagos....we just dey helep una manage am. ![]() |
obembet:I believe some countries have traditional Mother's day connected with their native rituals or festivities, separate from the commercialized and globalized one from the Americans or Europeans. First, In mythical beliefs planting season (spring) is associated with Earth day which because of its fruitfullness is also called "mother", as in mother-earth. So native cultures will celebrate planting season as mother's day and it may correspond with, or not, on the gregorian calendar with the American version which is always second Sunday in May of every year. Second, Internet news from remote areas around the globe has given us awareness of things that had always been there but never heard of. I think the first and second factors contribute to give the perception of many Mother's day celebrations. |
obembet: Dont mind him. |
Everyone missed the point Aare is making here. Interior Minister Dambazau and Defense Minister Dan Alli instructed Emirs in North to move forward with preparations for Community Policing. In the same week Buhari had a dialogue with MACBAN leaders on ways to assist dismantle the pockets of terror in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and so on. In that same week the Kaduna dry port opened for operations and El Rufai said containers meant for Kaduna will not be inspected at Lagos or even be opened until it arrives at Kaduna terminal. Aare has been in militancy and led defensive guards successfully against the Army of tyrant Abacha and so he knows what the Northerners are cooking behind closed doors even before the aroma sips out. He is telling Buhari that to fund Miyetti Allah to raise a Community Police Force and a pretentious fight against terrorists is unacceptable unless the policy is uniform and in the case of SW we have para-military guards with proven records of peacemaking in the community and they should also be included in the program. |
obembet:That brings me to the followup. Investigative journalists never reveal to us their first findings. What we get in report is the edited copy of corroborations and counter validations. Why don't they report their investigated report right away? Because they want to be on the side of law. So it is appropriate to first give their discovery to the Security Agency and then followup on it. If no action in an appreciable amount of time they can then report it to the public and include the actions thy took to involve authorities. That's responsible journalism....not jumping to the wire to be "first to report" the news. Sovereign Security should be sacred! In this report Saharareporters failed to do due dilligence. |
EzegeNG:If I knew when I joined Nairaland that Politics section was this fun and hillarious I would never have bothered spending over three years exclusive to Culture section. After my recent discovery of Politics section I abandoned Culture. If you have a headache and you come to Nairaland Politics section it would turn to migraine and the doggone head might explode but if you are stressed and worried about some issues in life this section will lighten you up very quickly and make you forget you had problem. Wow! OP, this your article is number 1! First, a wife currently married with two children and "living with her husband" threw me off the chair I sat on. I didnt know married women are supposed to live "in the same house" with their husbands. Second, I almost rolled down the stairs when I saw she was in a glass house showing her assets in the next city to her city, Amsterdam. Now thats it! You, Sir, have earned an award as the best news reporter for this year! Wow!! I cant stop laughing... ![]() |
Very good initiative. I love it! People living in Ajele should get on their social media and root for them with support. |
livelymatilda22:Wow! That little boy with his cute self is an old man reincarnated. Does it look like he has a faint moustache or is it my eye. . |
Few things to note here. 1. In the narrative of its press release CBN acknowledges that this conversation indeed took place. So it means it is not fake. OP correct the heading of your thread. 2. CBN says the context of the leaked portion is not fully representative of its dialogue. Therefore it is biased....but not fake. 3. CBN is part of the Sovereign Security assets and is covered under confidentiality statutes. If a news media is able to obtain raw recording of its close circle conversation then security at CBN is very laxed. 4. As a news media registered in Nigeria Saharareporters is obligated to protect national assets and security. Discoveries like this should first be tabled before custodians of Sovereign Security....rushing to internet to blow the whistle on sensitive matters like this is ethically wrong. 5. Saharareporters, if it enjoys any privilege of security clearance, should have it suspended to impact a lesson. If it does not have any such privilege its editors should be invited in by Security Agents and given training and made to sign undertakings against a repeat of such in future. 6. Saharareporters did not violate a law by merely blowing the whistle but it demonstrated an ethical deficiency, and the circumstance under which the recording was created, stored and then distributed....or the act of breaching cybersecurity at CBN to obtain the recording may in itself be prosecutable. |
[s] ElectorAlexande:[/s] Stark rubbish! Which Kingdoms did Europeans treat with respect and equality? Mods close this racist, anti-African thread abeg or move to history section. |
pazienza:I said you lack accountability to self regulate and make your zone more business friendly for big revenue, and so you responded and truly put your laxity on display. If i tell you the history of Lagos going back as far 1500 and its state of independence you will shed tears. How old is Nigeria compared to Lagos? So does Lagos care if Nigeria exist or not? . Split Nigeria, cut Nigeria, somersault Nigeria, implode Nigeria, stretch Nigeria, ....whatever you like do to Nigeria....Lagos dont give a damn! If you want to be like Lagos do what the Ancestors and Elders of Lagos do...be self-accountable. Businesses will find you attractive and locate in SS and pay you huge tax...in addition to many other derivable economies and profits that will surge your IGR. |
