RomanceRe: Car Or Girlfriend: Which Is More Expensive? by moremi2008(m): 10:41pm On Apr 22, 2012
It all depends on the type of girlfriend you have and the type of car you drive. Women are generally termites; they always want to chop from labor they haven't contributed to. My rule of thumb is this, never spend more on a girl than you are ready to dash a beggar on the street! Dump her immediately she asks for a BB and Brazilian hair because her next move is to take you "shopping" at Chanel or Louis Vuitton. Before you know it, you don turn full-time maga!

This post is probably more appropriate in the law section (if there is one). Please keep the documents hidden until you have had the chance to consult a lawyer! Your wicked uncle should have absolutely no rights to your father's estate. Good luck!

plaetton: I guess you are assuming that the neuroscience has completely figured out everything there is to know about the brain development?. The brain is still the most complex organ in the human body. No neuroscientist even pretends to have more than 20% knowlwdge of how the brain really works or develops. there is still much to learn, so it is still a work in progress.
Many many studies have been conducted over the years about the benefits of classical music in neural development. The conclusions, which I am inclined to believe, is that music stimulates , and in most cases, sharpens certain parts of the brain responsible for logical reasoning, creativity and problem solving, as in mathematical abilities.
Although, there have been other studies that have been inconclusive on this matter, there is absolutely nothing to lose by trying anything that is not potentially harmful to the child.
I am sorry, where are these studies? How about you give us a link to an excerpt? Research on these things are still very rudimentary and inconclusive. A quick Google search reveals the obvious. I quote:

"No research supports this conclusion. You may have heard that exposure to music makes kids of all ages smarter in math, but Gordon Shaw, who pioneered this type of research, says these studies focused on older children, not fetuses."

Please, let's God has given the human race the beautiful gift of science so we can free ourselves from superstitions and foolishness. Let's not throw His gift back into His face by spreading biological "facts" that have no basis in science.

Busy_body: Ha it is you, knew it, lightning don't strike the same place twice. I have been looking to corner you since, owo ba e leni, read some posting of yours last year that led me to deduce that you some specialist of some sort in paediatric matters, so i made a mental note and upgraded you sharp sharp to "my cousin's" status, as per everyone is our cousn in Naija. Naija and awoof ehn, so its gonna be free complimentary consultation from Dr Moremi by the bucketload. Erm. . . can i ask a small favour too. . .can't hurt to ask. . .erm. . . does babysitting come within your remit. A gentlelady like me needs baby girls to compliment me, not this boys wey I get, I swear sometimes I would have better luck training goats cheesy. Something is always crashing every minute and i fear they are gonna bring the whole house down soon.

Now that pleasantries are over and we have agreed for you to occasionally babysit my quiet wellbehaved children, why do this same neuro critics who believe the numerous studies that unborn babies are affected by loud discordant music such as Rock and Rap, refuse to accept that Classical music improves their spatial awareness huh? Foetuses feel pain in the womb, so why refuse to believe that these genre of music truly aids their memory too. I bet you still remember some of the nursery rhymes you were taught as a baby, so why not a growing baby in the womb.

And how come the age of the youngest patients studied to conclude that Classical Music does not positively affect the brain is 11 years old, why not use babies?
Aunty, how you came to the conclusion that I am a specialist in pediatric matters is quite beyond me (I sincerely hope you're being sarcastic!). Nigeria's educational system is so terrible and dilapidated, otherwise you would know that there's absolutely nothing I have said on this thread that's remotely ground-breaking. Ordinary middle school students here in the U.S. can sniff-out superstitions as basic as this. Did you bother to Google this claim? It's not that hard, you know.

With regards to all your questions, I have nothing to say. They imply such unfathomable leaps of logic that they aren't even worth answering. What does "feeling pain" have to do with the claims in question? What does my memory of childhood nursery rhymes have to do with anything? I am afraid that you aren't making a whole lot of sense, my dear.

FamilyRe: A Must Read For All Men by moremi2008(m): 9:03pm On Apr 22, 2012
So you brother-in-law raped your fiancee?! From what you've said, it appears that the only crime that has been committed here is rape. Your next course of action will depend on if you want to pursue justice via the police/the courts or if you want to keep this a family issue. Whatever you decide, just make sure you keep your emotions in check so you don't take a rash violent decision. This is a truly horrible situation to be in and I pray God grants you the wisdom to deal with it appropriately.
FamilyRe: Can You Live In Ur Father In Law's House????? by moremi2008(m): 8:45pm On Apr 22, 2012
kurus: No insult meant, but if you were a father/mother and your daugther got married, and her family is moving into a town where you have an empty apartment, would you not insist they stay in the house? Why would you even be asking the question?

@poster, if it was your own father who owned the building, would you come and ask us in NL if you should stay in your own father's house? The real question is not whether you should stay in your FIL house; the real question is "would you stay in the house of someone who would, either be a trouble to you, or who would give you peace in the house". I help rephrased your question because, if the poster has a very troublesome father(I mean no disrespect please, this is just hypothetical), would you want to put in your family in that house, even though the man is your father?

Pride goeth before a fall. The man has offered; accept the offer, even if you are as rich as dangote. That rent money you will save, you can use it for other things, from giving it to your MIL, to buying your FIL something he likes to even buying land for your children(if you have). Your FIL will be quite happy knowing he has helped his daughter and her family.

My 2 cents
Your advice is perfect... for DisneyWorld! This is more than a pride issue; it's a dignity issue. If you live rent-free in your FIL's house, then you must be open to unnecessary interference in your marriage. You must also be ready to keep your doors open to any visiting in-laws (after all, it's their house). Even if your FIL and in-laws aren't the meddlesome, awoof types, your wife might use your housing situation to make a point during your next argument or next quarrel! That's never a pretty situation; it's usually devastating to a man's ego. Abeg, go find your own house as soon as you can!

acidtalk: STOP HATING!!!

If you've failed in your dream career doesn't give you the right to bring others down and try to kill their dreams prematurely.

Most successful people both within Nigeria and abroad took risk. They saw light ( a vision) where everyone else saw darkness. They were kicked out becoming homeless, hungry, and outcasted by others but it only made them stronger because they believed and never gave up on their dreams.

If the young man can take all the risk stated above, then the sky is surely his starting point.

And who said their aren't well respected part-time jobs in Nigeria?

Please don't stain this young brian with your stu*pidity and myopic empty skull.
LOL @ this r*tarded rant! Failed dream career? Me? Hating on what? Hahahahaha! You stuupid miserable thing! My monthly income can probably buy you and your entire village. Encouraging the boy to leave his father house to go chase shadows instead of focusing on going to school like the rest of his mates is just criminal. Haba, even trust fund babies know the value of a university degree! Harboring hopes of any kind of sophisticated career in this day and age with an empty skull is equivalent to starting a marathon race one week AFTER the race began. Why can't he go to school first and chase a career later? Oh, I forgot, he's too stuupid to get into university and he thinks he's gonna find it easier to excel in the media industry! Bloody pipe dreams! Abeg, let's call a spade a spade and keep it moving! Let's not waste precious time encouraging a dullard who won't go to school.

It's clear that these two shouldn't be together; they don't share the same fundamental values about really important things like number of children, education and financial independence. If she goes ahead and married this dude, this will only the beginning of MANY disagreements. She needs to take this as good warning to back-off.

chaircover: Moremi this is why so many people miss the "right one"

Apart from those born with a silver spoon in their mouth and a few people who managed to land a cushy job, how many batchelors are "rich"?

The poster earning 50K today can earn 500K in the next couple of years. Yes my husband was "broke" (Moremis word) when he met me and I was an awoof bride grin but today nko? I wouldnt have chosen anyone else for all the money in the world. BTW he wasnt even earning 50K when we tied the knot LOL.

You under estimate the advantages of marriage. Two good heads are better than one and when there is love and harmony, you will find that both parties progress in leaps and bounds in all other areas of their lives. You walk with a spring in your step and reach great heights when there are two of you aiming and supporting each other for the same goal.
Aunty CC, your case is different. You're a pretty sharp lady and I am sure you already saw the potential in your husband when you married him. I know a few women who made a decision like this. For example, my cousin married her husband when he was between jobs (he was a laid-off banker) and their wedding was very simple by most standards. However, she had full faith that her husband was going to find another job; she saw the potential and that is exactly what happened. Ditto for my best friend (she married a really smart doctor that decided to answer God's call to become a pastor).

Having said this, there are way too many unserious, poor men who go about deceiving ladies to marry into abject poverty. We shouldn't allow exceptions become the rule. If you're making 50k a year, you probably shouldn't be looking for a wife (you should be looking for a new job). Just my opinion.

Who sent for you? Why are you relevant? Who is your father? Which impoverished hovel have you crawled out of? Who unlocked your cage and let you out of the Romance section? Why wouldn't you think that everybody is an ape when your mother herself is the Queen Chimpanze, the only creature your father could afford to marry? I took a peek at your history here on Nairaland and it isn't surprising that you can't pass JAMB! You poor, dull thing! Good luck with your life; you're going to need it! It's a harsh world out there for semi-illiterate, impoverished dull children.

c.fours:
Take charge of your own life and don't let other people decide it for you. not even your parents.

you could take a part time job to sustain yourself or live with friends for the time being.
Or maybe hide your aspirations from your parents. Lie to them that you are studying to be a doctor and work on your dreams behind their back. grin
Stop deceiving the poor chap! This is Nigeria we're talking about here. Part-time job where? As a bus-conductor? What fcking dream? Stop peddling foolishness please. If he doesn't have the drive to pass JAMB and go to school, then he doesn't heave the drive to succeed in this cut-throat world without an education. Please go take a quick survey of successful media/branding professionals and come back to tell me how many of them are school cert holders! He thinks he has a career because rent and food is free?! A re-think is in order.

Media career?!!! LOLLLLLLLLL!!! You people will not kill me with laughter today. Who dash monkey banana? What's is your name and why has nobody heard of you? My dear, you don't have a career yet; you're just an aspirant. Let me guess, you're not a university graduate and instead of studying for JAMB you want to be a rapper? I am not your father, but I am tempted to send you packing from Nairaland to go face your books! You need to refocus your life.
FamilyRe: Can You Use A Hired Wedding Gown And An Old Bouquet During Your Wedding? by moremi2008(m): 1:56am On Apr 21, 2012
Why can't some men just call a spade a fcking spade? Why try to mask aromas of abject poverty with ridiculous appeals to love and sacrifice. Why are broke men always looking for an awoof bride? Why are you on Nairaland seeking cheap affirmations when your impoverished azz should be looking for a decent job to feed a wife and children? Who is paying your internet bill? You're not a serious man.
