dayokanu:
MSTom,

The money he made from the cab was what he invested in the trucks in Nigeria.
Are you trying to tell me he paid cash for the trucks from his cab driving? common on!. Anyone can get trailers with good credit. I know a nigerian who has 3 trucks here and uses it for his trucking biz here. He is yet to finish his payment on the trucks cheesy

Dayo, think about it well. Are you planning to going into the cabbie biz? Seems you are interested. Do a very good study b4 u venture into the biz. Ask other nigerians, pakistanis, and other africans in the biz. Nigerians will not tell you everything.

PS: There are other jobs/biz that bring in better money.
PoliticsRe: Have Nigerian Taxi Drivers Suddenly Become Rich Or Telling Fantastic Stories by MsTom(f): 5:57pm On Mar 25, 2010
@dayokanu,

You said it all.The city is good. He has 3 trailers in Nigeria working for him. Do you know that with the income from those trailers at home, he can use that to build houses. I would not be surprised if he sends the money earned from the use of the trailers in Nigeria to chicago. Transportation is good biz in Nigeria.The in come from the cab would only be used to pay for the auto loans on the trailer, his home in chicago, other bills and maintenances. Rememeber he has mortage ( you know how much that would be in chicago). For a cab driver to have enough money, he must own the car, be in a good city and be thereat the right time. Again, Nigerians lie. That may not be the only source of income. Maybe he does other things on the side. There are loads of Nigerian cab drivers in in DC and maryland. They complain cos people who live there would rather take the train or buses. Not sure of the transportation system in chicago but I think it sucks.The cab drivers get their income from visitors who are in town for a program which is once in a while. Tell me, how many people tip cab drivers? Any cab driver who claims he is rich is doing something else on the side. Nigerians are smart. Do not forget that.
PoliticsRe: Acid Rain Scare: Port Harcourt Residents Scamper For Safety by MsTom(f): 1:24pm On Mar 25, 2010
Chongaiman:
Sure, acid rain is a real phenomenon. It occurs when rain falls in an atmosphere with a high carbon dioxide content. The mixture is a very weak acid which does no appreciable harm even to the human skin (if any at all). If acid rains were that corrosive, the Chinese and Indians would be the most noticeable victims due to the high levels of pollution in their atmosphere as a result of industrialization. Truly, 'my people perish because they lack knowledge.'
True. To add to your point, people should look for the source and deal with it as acid rain shows high level of industrial polution, fossil burning or decaying vegetation in the area. Even the smoke from exhaust pipes from buses can be a source. The source of the acid rain is what is harmful as such gases can cause repiratory problems and headaches and other problems.

@poster,

I do not believe that a cab driver could make that enough money to have 3 houses in US and one in Nigeria. He must be doing something on the side like be involved in real estate. Maybe he got the houses when real estate was booming and he probably cash out on one to get enough money as downpayment for the others--I have heard of this. Also, what does the wife do? How many cabs does he drive? Does he own the cabs? Find out very well. Must nigerians wont tell you the truth about how they make their money anyway.

What would bring genuine development and possible peace and progress along with it, is crafting a system that en,courages the best man to rise to the top (no matter where they are from).
Can you please elaborate on what this system might look like, because as far as I know we have practised almost every system except communism.
Communism ke? In a country like Nigeria? Quick question b4 I just the gun, is communism not practiced in cuba and in North korea? lol. I cant stop laughing

it's not easy like you suggested because of our multi-ethnic status.rotation makes thing easy here.8 years x 250 tribes each,i guessed it will take more than trust and honesty to sustain that policy in the long run.it looks boring and un-implementable.
Be honest. So far, has it worked? Do you see it work? We are so tribal that we forget the essence of Nigeria. Na tribe go destroy Nigeria.

If we can't rotate properly then why rotate at all? How would have measures promote better equity and justice? We could push for a more credible and thorough electoral process which enables the best man for the job to rise to the top, but rotation would be a better option? Why exactly do we need to rotate if we can't rotate properly? To satisfy who exactly?
Rotate what?! who agreed with them. It is so unconstitutional. It is a PDP thingy. rotate ko. circumference ni. PDP is not the only party in Nigeria. why are they talking about rotating? Because of rotation they put yaradua there even though he was a sick man. It almost caused problems for the nation. What we need is a man whether from the north, south, east or west , whatever party he might be to be allowed to move this nation forward. This can only be done though a true and fair election.

I wonder why these PDP are so confident of the next election. Like they know the next president already. It is as if they know they are gonna win even before campaigning.  angry angry angry

@Poster,

Morale of this post. Never do anything of National honor to any country unless you have their PASSPORT.

"driving while disqualified after twice being convicted of careless driving"-- what does that mean? Does it mean he was driving without a license or suspended license after being convicted twice? If so, why would anyone attract the law to himself when he knows that his days are numbered in that country? Just plain stu!pid.

@Richy,
Even though the naturalized citizen and US born citizens have same rights, the naturalized citizen can still have their citizenship stripped. Example is a romanian born former Nazi who was stripped of his US citizenship. They are even trying to see how they can strip US born citizens of their citizenship if involved in terorrism.

@Poster,

only you know the person you cheated on. If he/she is the forgiving one, then you can so as to free your guilt. If not, keep it in forever. That would be the price you pay for your infidelity. Some spouses are patiently waiting for that slip of the tongue so as to show you to the door.

I support your line of thought in not wanting to be with a boyfriend for a while. This is the time to do something for you. Be yourself, your own woman. Know yourself. Know what you what. Know what you need. Know the difference between both. Have dreams and create paths to that dream. Love yourself. It is only then that you can love another effectively. Wish you the best

FamilyRe: Is He Too Young For Disciplinary Measures? by MsTom(f): 8:25pm On Mar 19, 2010
@ponnusma,

Why would you take your child to a doctor who practises medicine from her home?! Common now! she can practise anything there. If she is the serious type, let her get an office floor. She is doing ijebu. Or is she a baby sitter running a day care? The health of a child is far more important than that. My advice, look for any pediatrician who has an office.

PS: how does she get the vaccinations? "A room has been converted for her practice"-- this is so cracy. When it is not a chemist. Quick question: Would you go to a chemist who sells drugs from his room or a chemist who sells from a shop (a chemist who sells from a shop can sometimes pass for a pharmacist or a doctor)? Please think about this.
Music/RadioRe: Do You Think Any Nigeria Musician Can Win a Grammy? by MsTom(f): 7:17pm On Mar 19, 2010
If Sade, seal or Femi who were nominated could not win the grammy, I doubt if any of the present musicians can.

Princek12:
I believe Femi Kuti was nominated for a Grammy--the World Music nominee--but he did not win. That being said, I believe Femi Kuti is another Nigerian Artist who has a good prospect of winning a grammy.
He was nominated twice. Can you imagine that?
FamilyRe: Is He Too Young For Disciplinary Measures? by MsTom(f): 6:38pm On Mar 19, 2010
There is nothing wrong with your child from your description of the events. He is a normal kid. A pediatric clinic is supposed to have a play area. Expect if there was something else that occured that you didnt tell us. I am of the believe that a child is not too young to be disciplined. The extent of discipline is what matters. The child can be disciplined now by having a "time out". He is too young for spanking. Believe me, they know what is right at that age.  Maybe your child did something that you did not see but a third party saw. Dont be mad at that. One person alone can not a raise a child. The society can help.

Every child should play. It is to be encouraged. It prevents obesity. Every child should take a nap. You and I did. Why shouldnt our children? Your child can sleep in your room if you want. It does not matter. If you are not comfortable with the doctor's negativity/ comments, change your doctor.

im sorry to say dis bt d best way i know is death dats y most creditors pray 4 dere debtors 2 live long so dey pay back
what a funny concept but Not necessarily true. For example, if you live in a state that practices community property law, the spouse inherits the debt. In some cases, the debtor's estate inherits it. While some companies just counts it as their loss

thanks guys for all your advise
i actually have a card with more than $3,000
Apr was 15% b4 d obama c.c came in n messed things up
now i pay 2 aprs 1 for balance transfers n d other for purchases
from like 15 min payment a month 2 about 60 now, its not a problem cz ive been paying at least 100 into it monthly
now its a problem bc after d charges less than 50 go into the acct
i had a fico of 750 now 550
i plan on using my returns to pay back
is that a good idea?
Seems like a good idea. Pay it off ASAP. with all these figures you stated, if you are not careful, you would still be paying for it after 5yrs. Once it is paid off, destroy the card. If you are worried about building your credit, try secured credit cards. Your limit is what you put in there.
FamilyRe: How Do You Handle Your Wife's Past After Marriage by MsTom(f): 4:34am On Mar 17, 2010
@Poster,

What is the pastor still coming to do in your house? That should be the first thing you need to stop. Stop the pastor from visiting your family/wife and bring the whole issue out in public. Why are you protecting the pastor? Or is he your pastor too? You made a mistake getting married without fully knowing your wife. Now that you are married, protect your wife from taking the same step. These 'pastor' are devious. He can be using the name of God to manipulate any woman including your wife. So, stop all contacts with this pastor. He should never step into your house and you and your wife should never step into his church. Let people know who this wolf in sheep's clothing is.

Live the present with your wife and build your future together( seems to me that you forgave her already).

pls does anyone in the u.s know how and if i can negotiate with a credit card coy
i want to pay off my card this month and i want to know if i can negotiate say 30% off
any advise is welcome thanks
Depending on the credit card coy, you can negotiate as high as 40% off, but you need to pay them all within 90days. Not sure if they would want to negotiate if you are current on your payments though. Also, you can call some debt consolidation company. They help gather the debts together and and negotiate with the credit card coy to stop adding interest and possibly help reduce your total amount due. But then, you have have a debt to certain amount. My advice is call the credit card company first. ask if they can give you certain percentage off. If yes, tell them to get it in writing for you. They are crooks. they wont want to put the deal in writing so that they can come back and ask for the remaining. (it happened to me). So have it in writing or have the conversation recorded. Luckily, I had a witness who happened to be someone from my bank and she recorded the conversation. So, please be smart when dealing with these credit card coy. They actually want you to continue in the debt. If calling the credit card company does not work for you, try the debt consolidation company. There are a good number of them. You can google that to find them and talk to one of their counsellor. I tried the all the above once and now, I am debt free. smiley
Christianity EtcRe: What Do Our Christian Sisters In The House Have To Say About This? by MsTom(f): 10:32pm On Mar 14, 2010

It was peter who said it not Paul.

I am asking why christian sisters dont  follow the words of peter which accordingly to 2.tim.3.16 is the word of God.

I also want to cripple the excuse of ladies immoral/club dressing styles to church in the name of looking good for God.

but i have not reached any conclusion so i would want the "christian" sisters to explain this otherwise or tell me where they stand on the issue.
Why do christian brothers not follow the words of Paul in Ephesians 6? Stop pointing fingers on anyone. No one made you a judge. Besides your interpretation is wrong. Read the bible and let it minister to you and then share the love of God through his words. Maybe that would change that woman you are trying to convert to your church or trying to change her mode of dressing. It is the holy spirit that convicts.
Christianity EtcRe: What Do Our Christian Sisters In The House Have To Say About This? by MsTom(f): 10:24pm On Mar 14, 2010
Please, when interpreting the bible, ask God for interpretation. Do not use your own mind or thinking. He is asking women to concentrate on how to beautify their character, inner being and not to concentrate on how to beautify the outward appearance. He did not say do not wear jewelries. You are concentrating on KJV which most people are struggling to understand its english. Read other versions. Below are some:

New living translation says:
3 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. 4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

The message says:

3.What matters is not your outer appearance—the styling of your hair, the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes—but your inner disposition.
4.Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle, gracious kind that God delights in.
