Civil servants are individuals employed by the government (Local, State or Federal) and are registered under the Civil Service Commission except those in the Armed Forces.

Public servants are individuals who deliver direct service to the general population. They may be Civil servants or privately employed.
Examples: Elected government officials, Doctors, Nurses, Clergy men, Police Officers.

I can list countless Drs that are making money, some have even resigned from the govt owned hospitals to concentrate on their clinic. What about the one in my street, married to a barrister, have 4boys all below 17yrs, have 2 SUV, 2 saloon cars & he is into real estate & he his presently building a duplex after destroying his bungalow.

Bottom line be say, Drs do make money in Nigeria too

Oga, believe me when I tell you that it's the real estate business that's keeping that doctor going, most likely with support from his barrister wife.

The truth is being financially stable as a medical practitioner in this part of the world, notably Nigeria, one has to engage in other endeavours/businesses apart from medicine. Also, God's favour and wisdom to identify opportunities is needed.

The doctor in the topic, just as many in developed Countries achieve such success by practising medicine for just a few years.

With the absence of a qualified sonographer available, the doctor led the sonology unit for four years, conducting scans and training doctors and nurses. This was done out of free-will (with no contractual agreement or remuneration) in addition to regular duties of patient consultations, calls and presentations.

The doctor decides to resign after four years and gives an official 1 month 3 days notice in writing.

He also submits an official handover report of the unit to the head of department and administrator.

Work/business has been going on smoothly in the unit by a newly employed sonographer with no complaints.

20 days after resignation, employer refuses to pay cooperative savings of the doctor over the four year period with the excuse that engineers from another State will have to come check the machines (with no planned date in-sight) before payment is made.
Note the machine(s) are being used by a new operator (+ personnel undergoing training).

And payment of the cooperative savings of other employees who resigned at same month have been made excluding that of the doctor.

Is this legal?

My dear, I no longer worry my self about northerners. They simply find it hard to survive outside govt agencies. If u take a look at our private sectors, if u take a look at the startups with massive potentials, if u take a look at companies built from nothing to something, u will hardly see any Mohamed this, Yusuf that, simply put, u will struggle to find a northerner there or behind it. U will mainly hear Yoruba and igbo names and south south south names. Same thing on competitions, especially educational competitions, u will mainly see Yoruba, igbos and south south names making waves. Once in while, u may see northern name, rarely o.

But when u go to govt agencies, u begin to hear Mohamed, Yusuf, Abdul, etc. U got my point? U begin to see northerner Muslim names. How often do u see them win educational competitions? Look at nollywood and our music industry, yorubas, igbos and South South people helped to make the industry what it is today.

Northern region simply survives mainly on govt positions which they get mainly based on tribal sentiments from the various northern leaders who have led this country. The other day, there was a post about some of Nigeria's finest startups, there was none by any northerners.
A-side natural resources, southern Nigeria has human resources that is well tapped.

That is why I get so hurt when I see how igbos and yorubas fight and the north keep taking advantage of it.

A-side known govt ministries, go to top govt agencies, na northerner names u go see heading the place. I was at a FG agency the other time, around last year, a particular section was filled with people from the north and the head of thay section also from the north. Some of these guys working with him from the north couldnt even write well or speak well.


Southern Nigeria would have become the centre of Africa's development if our southern politicians weren't greedy and selfish. The southern politicians only care about their selfish interest that is why they can't challenge northerner leaders. Southerners are like slaves working for northern Nigeria.. What u just discovered is how it is dear. These people see government positions as birth rights. I sincerely give it to southern citizens for creating things out of nothing for themselves.
Look at education, entertainments, science, Arts, startups, tech, commerce, etc, southerners are the ones creating something out of nothing. I just wish yorubas and igbos can stop their cold war and work together. The two are really great nations.

Just saw the statement from the Nigerian Army.

It's quite unfortunate and a show of unprofessionalism from both sides.
You would expect such operation to include planning a secure route (by the police in cooperation with the Army) from the pick-up point to the Police HQ.
