Prettyenit18:What of Adam and Eve? ![]() |
This is ridiculous. |
So, what of the African masks that have been looted and stored in the West, why have they not collapsed economically? |
Tragic. |
nigeriancritic1:I disagree with your harsh assessment. Maybe the guy has tried to offer advice to her on numerous occasions but that has fallen on deaf ears. That doesnt mean that I support abortion. |
I dont recall any incident of armed robbery during prep when I was in college in Nigeria. Times have changed. |
TheHistorian:You sure about water? Even health researchers have dismissed bottled water as vanity that offers no health benefits when measured with tap water. And tomorrow, another group would dismiss pure water as unhygienic compared to tap water. |
laudate:It's heartless to abandon this hospital project that was built to save countless lives. But nearly every new administration in Nigeria are prone to doing so, because they want to create a project that they would be remembered for instead of continuing the project of their predecessor because they feel they wont be given credit for it. It's very unfortunate. |

I've noticed, most African American men raised in poor or struggling homes aspire to be athletes or rappers.Maybe, it's an opportunity to make quick bucks to escape from the hood. You see some of them selling CD's from the back of their trunk. Others may feel that the society has failed them or the man upstairs is holding them back from succeeding. Some do succeed, but what's the percentage? |
TijaniAbu:The Apapa historic Park Lane public thoroughfare road was renamed “Otunba Ayodele Soyode Lane” after Awo's second daughter (Tayo Soyode's late wife) and not after the man himself. And this was done in 2012, three years before his son in-law, Osinbajo, became the Vice President of Nigeria. Here is the link to the article. http://dailypost.ng/2012/01/01/lagos-council-renames-road-after-awo’s-daughter/ |
At one point, in the 80's it used to be 10 naira a term, sometimes it was free. Quote me on this, primary school was FREE. But to some parents, that was meaningless, because some of there were not upto par with their private school counterparts. |
It's quite common in America for diners to walk in, eat, and then bail out without paying the bill. It's called "Dine and Dash." Another common trend is for this heartless and greedy people to eat a healthy portion of their meal, then call back their server to complain about the dish and sometimes, either a dessert might be offered or the bill might be waived off. I took to Facebook to complain of this trend and concluded that it would never occur in Nigeria, (has anybody read "Souza" by Kola Onadipe?) I was wrong. Never ever imagined that this was also occurring in Nigeria, and the boldness of this woman to take to twitter to proclaim her greed is very audacious. WAO! |
Etianwan, abadie? |
fingard02k:Yeah, in Ibibioland, the child bears the mother's maiden name. But as for the man paying the brideprice before claiming his child, we call it 'mkpo usongenyin." It literally means "Payment for insult." Why ascribe the term, "Brideprice" when the woman is not even your intended? |
It's also common in my tribe, the ibibios. But we dont call it dowry, we call it mkpo usongenyin. I think it's wrong to call it dowry, because it implies you are paying the woman's bride price even though she is not your wife. Our is a penalty for impregnating someone's daughter without marrying her. So you have to pay up to claim your child. What I have also heard is that in Iboland, a man cannot claim a child as theirs if he was not legally married to the mother. Is it true? |
Tell your cousin not to be a doormat. If the mother in-law calls again to insult her, simply hang up on her, and do that repeatedly. If she comes over to her house to insult her, order her to leave immediately. |
It happened to me in 2002 when I went visiting someone at the HP/Compaq office in Lagos with my cousin. Moment I got into the elevator, the lights went off. I was so afraid, started hyperventilating (I was visiting from the US and have never experienced this before) and my cousin was trying to calm me down. My youngest brother's funeral was the following day in Uyo, and here I am in Lagos, experiencing a near death experience. A short while later, it began moving, either NEPA restored light or the generator was switched on. I dont know if I will ride on an elevator in Nigeria. |
Research is on-point, dont attempt to disapprove of it all because people have been cooking ewedu soup with broom for generations. It is akin to saying that female circumcision is not dangerous because this barbaric custom is a time honored tradition dating to the past. It's risky cooking soup with brooms and I agree with the researcher. |
Has Weah's victory been confirmed? |
You lay down the law in your house not your mother in-law or sister in-law. If your mother in-law wants you to call her daughter, "Aunty," and you dont want to, then dont. Dont be a doormat. For others who are telling her to call her sister in-law, "Aunty" if the same MIL says she should call her grandsons, "uncle," would you tell her to abide by that? |
The man is always the head of the family. If you disagree with me, come and explain why a woman, even if she makes more money than the man would still bear the man's last name, likewise the children. |
laudate:I dey-o, still dey make occasional 'contribution' on the forum. ![]() |
Another elephant project? |
She's off the hinges.I had a similar experience though with a different novel. When I was preparing for my SSCE Examinations, one of the novels we had to read for the English Literature portion of the examination was "So Long a Letter" by Mariama Ba. I liked the novel, it still remains one of my favorite (if not favorite) novels in the world. And when the results came out, English Literature was the best score that I had of all the subjects that I took. |
Shalomdee:"Actually impregnated her deliberately." How can a man impregnate a woman deliberately? |
Na wao, just for meat? |
It's been like this for a long time in ibo land that their bride price is outrageously expensive. |
Didnt you notice this during your courtship? You guys are now married, I wont recommend a divorce, Never! You have to arrive at a compromise to solve this problem. I wish you well. |
Indignity. And the young man does not have the sense and courtesy to stop this old man from prostrating before him. This is truly shameful. |
