jmaine: Got to know the meaning of Mkporo from my maternal granny . . .It depicts or given to those women who shower praises or encomium on deities, kings and individuals . . .As in going local now = Iban Atang Ase . . .but the prison representation might have being crucial at a point in their history . .which i don't know Have never heard of these people whose duties are to shower praises on kings and individual. What comes to my mind are the griots common in Guinea and Senegal. |

Why would I block a child wanting to find out his / her true identity? It would be a very selfish move on my part. I think paying ten percent tithe is only applicate to the old testament. As we are under Grace, we are no longer obligated to pay 10 percent anymore, you can choose to pay more or less, but let it not be done grudgingly. |

tpia@: Funerals (of the elderly ie around 70, 75 and above) are used as get togethers for the extended family, community, friends and well wishers to celebrate the person's life.
hence the feasts which abound at such.
Some people do enjoy attending these kinds of funerals and really, the food is good.
however, another offshoot of funerals is hookups. Its getting very common these days- not sure if it was always like that.
i used to think hookups were more expected at weddings- when everyone is dressed in nice attire and you had a greater chance of meeting other singles hoping for marriage (catching the bouquet and all that).

knowledge4: The man who marries a woman with a child from another man must accept the child as his own. If he refuses, then the woman is advised not to marry such a man. Some desperate women have abandoned their children somewhere in the care of others to remarry. Its grossly unfair and a grave disservice to those children. |

Literature › Re: Do Contemporary African Writers Actually Sell Books? by Ndipe(m): 1:35am On Mar 04, 2012 |
SEFAGO: I read like two unabridged (Journey to the west and Dream of the Red Chamber) but some of them are dull man if you read them unabridge especially romance of the three kingdoms
Coincidentally Dream of the Red Chamber is my favorite, excellent prose, and how it portrays Chinese culture & politics is quite interesting. Also the whole story has a strong message and makes you think. Recommend it if you have time honestly. Books are really long though I guess you gotta have to have a lot of free time or read over a long period.
I am obsessed with Asian culture (Japanese, Chinese, Thai anything) so I spent a lot of time reading their classics. Quite different and refreshing from western ones IMO.
The problem with Nigerian literature is that none of them really have deep meaning even Adichie's books are strictly narrative with no real deep insight on human nature though she does explore some interesting themes. Achebe was a god in that respect- his book was both cultural while presenting deep and symbolic meaning. Arrow of Gods, Things Fall Apart, No longer at ease all were not just "entertaining reads" but they made you think. His works are just like Dostoevsky meant to shock and make you ponder and wonder.
@ The 17 year old who is reading sidney sheldon- you are pathetic. When you grow up you will ifnd out that romance does not exist I especially like reading novels that details the clash of cultures, you know, the East meets west novels and how it merges or clashes. Funny, in the white house, there is the East wing section and the west wing, I think. My own take, apart from African novels is Persian novels. I just find it ironic that a very conservative country, Iran, is also the nose job capital of the world. |
Christianity Etc › Who Was The Fourth Man In The Fiery Furnace In Daniel 3:22-25? by Ndipe(op): 1:04am On Mar 04, 2012 |
Daniel 3:22-25: Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his coun, sellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.Who was the fourth man in the fiery furnace that Nebuchadnezzar, (a pagan king) referred to as the Son of God which took place in the Old Testament?

PS: Interesting insights in the Holy Bible about the Son of God in Proverbs 30:4,
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is His name, and what is His Son's name, if thou canst tell? |
