AdmiralDru:The Big Bang Theory is a model used to explain a broad range of observed phenomena, and currently offers the most reasonable explanation of how things came to be. In short, the universe is expanding (this is observable), and thus was likely smaller in the past. Follow this thinking to its logical conclusion and you'll get an infinitely dense pin point - a singularity which combined all matter and energy, when all the fundamental forces (gravity, electromagnetism, weak and strong nuclear forces) were all combined into one. Many of the phenomena we can observe corroborate this story, so yes, I would accept - given our current understanding about the world - that the Big Bang is real. We don't fully understand it, and there is a paradox that if all mass is energy (E=MC^2), was there 100% energy and 0% mass right before the Big Bang? Take an atom, it's 99.999% empty space, save for nucleus and electrons. Take a quark that makes up the protons, etc... 99.999% empty. We don't yet know what makes a quark and right now they understood to be the fundamental particles. It wouldn't surprise me that we discover that the next thing down is 99.999% empty. Keep going, and it starts to dawn on you that all the things we call "mass" and "objects" are actually forms of energy interacting with the fundamental forces. In other words, it's all energy. As an aside, squeeze enough molecules into a space, the molecules start to attract themselves, then under immense pressure, nuclear fusion occurs, and bang! "mass" is annihilated and energy is released. There are billions of such bangs in our galaxy... one of them is our Sun. And there are billions of galaxies, all stretching away from each other. My position is: if theists can accept the idea of a sentient entity always existing - the source of all creation, they should not have any trouble accepting the idea of a singularity event... the source of all creation. The former was the explanation before physics, and the latter is the explanation after physics. |
As usual, our task forces are drunk with power. Instead of talking to grown people like adults, you're coming with cane. I don't blame them... after all, that's how Black man has been mistreating Black man. |
Investnow2017:Two things: equipment, and haze/glare. We have a haze in our cities, from dust and pollution. Our skies are also almost always gray with clouds (i.e. it's rare to see a genuine blue sky). These have a lot to do with the picture quality. If you went North to a clear place, or to more rural areas in the South free from pollution, the pictures also look very nice. I'll also have to admit that the quality of camera makes all the difference. Look at the pictures shot by Tay0AinaFilms ... they are also high quality, unlike most pictures you'd take with phone cameras. |
bionixs:Well, each to his own. However, I cannot accept that your perception of reality is more valid than mine. Every previous mythology has been replaced, from Zeus, Jupiter, Olodumare, to Ra, all self confident and certain they were correct. It will be only a matter of time for Yahweh to be replaced by a more compelling myth... perhaps at the barrel of a gun or blade of cutlass. I could easily express my "I'm sorry" to you for your faith in a non-existent entity that allows people to die from the same viruses he created, but instead will agree to disagree: It's hard for rational people to turn to someone they don't believe exists. It's hard for the faithful to abandon indoctrination about someone they believe exists. |
bionixs:I am a rational human being who realizes that it's not the tears and calling on God that saves lives. It's the dispassionate understanding of natural phenomena, and how to influence it to our benefit. Whether it's viruses, floods, asteroids... prayer has not yet shown to be effective. Don't believe me: please point me to a single example in the real world where prayer has regrown a limb so a cripple could use his legs again. It seems prayers work for most things except cripples. Viruses and bacteria are natural and have always been around. Antivirals and antibiotics are also natural (in the sense that they are elements and molecules arranged in such a way that they affect viruses and bacteria). The arrangement may need human understanding to be manufactured, but it most cases (like penicillin), it was the discovery that chemicals from a certain fungus did harm to bacteria. |
bionixs:Atheism and science do not have all the answers, as new discoveries and understandings are made all the time. However, I will venture to say this: science has done far more good for humanity in the long run than all religions. I'm of the opinion that atheism frees people from seeking fantasy answers to phenomena that have a logical - even though not understood - explanation. By that I mean, once you stop blaming the supernatural for diseases, you can spend more time thinking about theories and inventing equipment that lead to things like the discovery of bacteria, and of penicillin. Atheism also makes you realize that this is the only life you have (no afterlife) - so live it well, and allow others to live well. You don't need the threat of eternal fire to be decent towards others. You don't need to waste your life away on a myth - do useful things in the here and now. God was invented by Man to help calm the fear of the great unknown... the notion of the vast emptiness after death is scary. That's why all pantheons - independently created - are surprisingly similar... because they are based on human craving to understand the world and their place in it. The existence of God may yet be proven or disproven - just because one doesn't believe, does not mean there's no God. And the converse is true, just because one believes, does not mean there's a God. |
Garrieveryday:Yep, right after the US repays the world for the Spanish flu of 1918 (arguably started in Kansas), or the financial crisis of 2008. |
golddare:Haha... is it the same God that created viruses that kill all kinds of animals including humans mercilessly? I mean... is coronavirus a particularly prayerful one? It must serve a living god for it to wreak such havoc and lay waste to "its enemies" ![]() |
Because when people get sick in France, Israel, US, etc, there's hope for well-equipped hospitals, electricity, and infrastructure to increase the chances of living. If a person gets sick in Nigeria... well, that person would be greeted with no light, no medicine, no ventilators, etc. Seriously, who in their right minds would want their citizens to just kpeme in Nigeria, when you can vastly increase their chances of survival, even if the country in question also has the same disease? |
What is this supposed to mean? Baba no dey wash hand before? Please lead this country with sound policies, not photo ops. |

We are blaming the driver. Fair enough, and I hope he gets what's coming to him. But what is really bothering me is that there are Nigerians ready and willing to purchase these 15 innocent souls and use them for rituals, slavery, prostitution, and other horrors. |
This is a case of self defense... but as usual NPF (or what is it they're calling themselves now), went and found goat wey no los. Ada no get money for lawyer, so police will just lock her up indefinitely. |
Didn't watch the video... don't need to hear any adult wailing. For the past year, all we have seen from her and her inlaw is trips, luxury cars, and police holding fan for her daughter. Our pastors, celebrities, famous people, follow comes, and fellow Nigerians should use this time for sober reflection. Build hospitals, build real industry doing real things that is of actual use. Society is not only about spending money on cars, luxury homes, churches, parties, phones, and champagne (things BTW that are all imported). Even house sef cannot move past plastering without importing the rest of finishings. As it is, we are 100% dependent upon the outside world for survival. If oyinbo or chinko today decide not to send medicine, ventilators, beds, test kits, etc... we are finished. They are weaning themselves off oil, so what do we have to offer in the near future. As it is now, more Nigerians will die of hunger than of the virus. Daddy Freeze said something really basic and fundamental, and I'll paraphrase: "God has already given you the wisdom to provide solutions. Use your brains and quit begging him to do what he has given you the wisdom to do". |

Viper has poison bah? It's a carnivore bah? Please don't complain when something happens after people spend a lifetime eating venomous carnivores. Upon the wide availability of herbivore mammals and birds, fish, and crustaceans, people insist on eating reptiles and fellow carnivores. Carry on. Besides all that - we have two recent examples of fatal diseases caused by people eating and messing around with wild animals - Ebola and Coronavirus, yet we are still carrying one like business as usual. It would not surprise me at all if the next epidemic comes from Nigeria. |
MelesZenawi:Fair enough... |
MelesZenawi:I need this better parsed, because I can only derive three meanings from it: 1. Some Almajiri boys from Enugu, Jigawa, etc. (residing in Kaduna) were provided transport to return to their origins in Enugu, Jigawa, etc. OR 2. Some Almajiri residing in Enugu, Jigawa, etc, were provided transport to leave Enugu, Jigawa, etc so they can return to their origins (unspecified) OR 3. Some other residents of Kaduna (not Almajiri boys), were also given transport to return to Enugu. The first doesn't make sense because Enugu - like all Southern states, do not practice Almajiri and send their kids there. The second doesn't either because AFAIK, Enugu does not host such schools, and why would Kaduna gov't pay to move anybody from Enugu? The third could make sense, but it's outside the context of the news (which specifically mentions Almajiri boys) The inclusion of Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Bauchi, Nasarawa makes sense in the context. However, the inclusion of Enugu doesn't - and needs clarification if indeed it's not a typographical/editing/intentional error. |
It taught me that the only thing religion has been useful for, is sowing fear - and maybe giving irrational hope. It doesn't rationally explain the reason, and prevention of disease. It doesn't find vaccines or cures. It doesn't stimulate economies. It doesn't manufacture or distribute masks or antiseptics. The only thing it's been useful for is confusing modern humans with ancient writings, and trying to pin natural disasters on some failing in humanity. It reminds one that life has always been fragile, but yet resilient. This is the only life you have, and there's no afterlife subsequent to this. I also hope it stirs something in the minds and hearts of our leaders - to realize that they need to love and develop their country, because there will be times they can't run away abroad. Oh, I wonder what those prophets will say, once March ends and Coro is still with us? OF course, they'll bring out some other claptrap to remain relevant. |
042 for where? There's no way Enugu is on that list... typo. |
I need to say two things. 1. I really commend the governor for purchasing our products, and I want to commend and congratulate Innoson for making these products. My hope is someday I will buy one or two Innoson vehicles new. I admire them, am proud of them, and they inspire me to achieve. 2. Having said that, I can't help but to wonder what would happen if Imo (and other Eastern states) spent the monies being used to fight crime - and instead used it to create industries. Yes, I know that Innoson employs people, and my argument would have carried more weight if Governor Uzodinma just bought Toyota vehicles. Nonetheless I feel that crime would not be there if there were more opportunities in the first place. What do you think? Any feedback? |
Jesus himself, in many parables, showed that he doesn't tolerate foolishness. Tithing at this critical time when you're barely on your feet is the height of foolishness. |
![]() In serious countries, they fund research agencies, pay salaries on time, and train people extensively. So that when crises come, they are ready to apply what they've been doing to solving problems. In Nigeria, our agencies are starved of funds and equipment for years. Then once crises arrive, our researchers are to perform miracles in 2 weeks. Electron microscopes, autoclaves, centrifuge, refrigerator? F9. The constant electricity needed? F9. So what are we talking? In our case researchers should just stay home because things will only get worse if they start testing and experimenting with inadequate equipment and distributing the virus. |
babytoun:You have a valid point, but the solution is to train a corp of special medical personnel who can and must keep secrets. Just as we have people in armed forces, and various places who have kept their mouth shut. It's not a valid excuse to abandon your own. |

sweetsell: trutht828:Buhari is part of the core of army officers that systematically ruined this country since 1970s. He gives off the impression of being thoughtful, decisive, and unifying, but the reality is he falls far short of expectations. It's been 5 years, yet no improvement. In fact, it's gotten worse. |
angelicwing:Actually, statistically, PMB will die before me... not a curse, it's a fact. Nobody knows tomorrow, but if he dies first, especially due to lack of health infrastructure, I will definitely take some satisfaction, since he has been callous to the rest of the country, since 1983. |
