Crime › Re: Cops Who Killed Osaze Osagie, Nigerian Student In US, Cleared Of Charges by nextstep(m): 4:13pm On May 12, 2019
The police officers had implemented the use of force while serving a mental health warrant that resulted in the death of Osaze Osagie on March 20.

TheSTreetman:
Na only Nigerian dey die like chicken there. Why would he be rushing to a policeman with a knife like that. I would categorically said that before the police take the shot, they have already warn him not to make a move.
From the article, it appears the man might have had mental issues. It's rare to hear of oyinbo with mental issues being killed... even after oyinbo threaten, attack, abuse police - they will still find a way to disarm/disable nonlethally. However when it comes to black men holding knives, phones, wallets, or even running away, US police response is shoot to kill.

50-50 from who? they should be a bill to forbidden women's from occupy political office. What's the contribution of women's to the nation building from 1999 ?
On one hand - representation is elected, so they should go and protest in their own districts.

Contribution of women to nation building since 1999?
- Much fewer people die from fake drugs and food (Dora)
- You can enter MMA in peace without the threat of armed robbery; air traffic safety; new terminals (Stella)
- We don't pay 1/4 of our GDP servicing loans (Ngozi)
- Opportunities for more Nigerian companies to get oil contracts (Deziani)

These are the top 4 that come to mind... they are not blameless (epecially Stella and Deziani), but they did do things to make this country better.

KingOvo:
This is going to be huge for Dangote, like every other capitalist, he's used the government's incompetence to enrich himself. By the time he's done with this finery, he'll comfortably be, by own assumption, one of the richest black men, ever.
Ideally governments should not be in the role of refining oil, generating or distributing electricity, and so many other things. Government's role is to create the enabling environment, and ensure all players are being fair.
Celebrities › Re: Why We Arrested Naira Marley – EFCC by nextstep(m): 2:27pm On May 10, 2019
So they arrested somebody because of baseless accusations? Had there been any actual investigation prior to his arrest? So any of us can be accused of yahoo and we'll be arrested before any proof right? As usual authorities shooting from the hip. Mtchew

But the hypocrisy is quite amazing. Hold up a confirmed thief's hand during election bid; the people who make the laws are the biggest thieves; yet we'll go after small fry because of somebody's word.

Nothing worse than something like a cheap spark plug breaking in your engine while on expressway at 6pm because you didn't want to spend 10k on genuine parts that will last you +50k miles.

To answer your question precisely:

Azikiwe (deposed in coup)
Yaradua (died in his first term)
Jonathan (he was promoted once, then elected once)

All others were either prime ministers, military self imposed, appointed, or served two elected terms.
Salebo:
MOHRUN!!!

They were all elected for single terms,Shebi?
Oh God... I don't even understand what you're saying again... the three presidents listed were elected, and served that single term. They didn't get re-elected for a second term (they either got coup out, died, or lost re-election), so yes they were elected for single terms.

The point I was making is: a term is 4 years; infrastructure projects typically take longer; if you start a project during the term you're elected for, but don't make it to a second term, it's unlikely you can finish the project you started.

Good idea... thought the headline is a tad misleading...

The students are using Lego Mindstorms to create projects of various types. Wish we had more of these efforts around, but I don't know what the point is. When this girl grows up, our system will frustrate her - no loans or investments for ideas, and Nigerians won't even want to buy her inventions, preferring to import. Sadly she might end up selling slippers and weave-on (or more personal property, if you get my drift) just to survive.

The take-off for the new terminals (as in publicly announced) was back in 2012. I'm just happy that we're seeing continuity in these projects... unlike the bad old days when a new government meant abandoned projects.

Let's now wait and see if these are terminals in LOS, ABV, KAN, PHC will be maintained over the next 10 years.

Crime › Re: Water Poured On A Security Officer Spotted Sleeping On Duty by nextstep(m): 4:09pm On May 02, 2019
nonye6194:
Sleeping on duty. Something I learnt from a lady at work.

so at where I'm presently working, I noticed one of the workers (a lady) who 'sleeps' every time its lunch break. like she doesn't do anything but lay her carton on the usual spot and before you know it, she has drifted away. She doesn't eat anything nor go out like the others to at least, stretch some muscles.

One morning on my way to work, I noticed her leaving another establishment on her way to work too. I approached her, we exchanged pleasantries and started gisting. From our 'gist', I found out She's a grandmom with kids and grandkids she fends for. She works 8am-5pm at our place of work and 10pm-6am at the other establishment.

And the supervisors and bigger ogas at work dont know this and threaten her with termination of his job anytime she oversleeps into end of break time.

Nevertheless, my respect for her and people who go beyond normal human limits for theirs quadrupled.

Now imagine if it was that grandmom in the post above that had water thrown at her, how would you react?
Nice story, and I feel for the grandmom.

However, a security guard sleeping on duty - is that who you want guarding people's lives and property? If he is not well rested, how can he perform the duties he was hired for? Should we also extend our sympathies to the truck driver or machine fabricator who works two jobs so they can pose a danger to themselves and others because of lack of sleep?

Why is the Landlord dumb for giving the flat to the banker? That's a stable position, unlike entrepreneur. Based on history, teachers don't get paid salary for months if not longer. Potential for wealth is not the concern, stability of income is. Landlords are not supposed to care about your dreams, just that you can pay their rent on a regular basis, year after year.

uuzba:
Ever since human beings decided to start using money to exchange for services, Mr Bank came into the picture to render their service of securing your money in his banking vault. Then issuing you an account number to access your money whenever you need it.

Nobody has ever been in control of Mr Bank. He charges you whatever fee he likes for his bank security services.

If you don't think he's fair, just take out your money from his bank. You can keep the money any other way you like.
This is the basic principle of Bank.

The western nations use other more methods to circumvent the bank. They value art works. So the rich purchase art works/paintings. They can sell this in later times when the art works becomes an antique. Others purchase jewelry, diamond, gold. And others buy land and hang on to the land.
You know, people who invest in art, jewelry, gold, etc, also spend a lot of money on insurance and security vaults and manpower, in case of damage or theft.

Last? With a population of 180m I expect Nigeria to grow more than this.
It reflects the reality on the ground: we have more people, but our economy has stagnated, meaning there's less money per person. We see this in lost jobs and increasing hardship.

I don't blame Buhari, really... I blame the people who insisted on voting him in, and voted for him a second time. At some point one has to stop blaming the rain for leaking into the house, and instead fix the roof; but we're not ready yet.

Please dig well for information if you don't know. It will affect the NYSC. It is designed in such a way that, whatever the minimum wage is, NYSC is made to be 10% more. When it was 18k, 10% was added to top the NYSC allowance.
Get this right and note my comment, if implemented, Nysc allowance will jerk up to 33k.
Sahaboi:
keep quite..stop saying what you didn't have the true knowledge
There is no mandate that NYSC is allowed to be any % more than minimum wage... or for it to even increase. If you can show me documentation, then I will withdraw my statement - I've read the decree and by-law, and am conversant, but have not seen this automatic linkage. As of now, we may go from past precedence, but the fact is allowance is under the discretion of the directorate, subject to presidential approval. The very fact that there is speculation, doubt, denials, announcements about further review - should indicate that it's not automatic, as you seem to want to believe. See my bolded: "hope they will increase it".

Again, it's an incentive/allowance for public service, not wages for employment, and I just wanted to make that clear.

For decades the mantra had been "get a degree, get a job". Yet how many people can pass their jobs to their children? It's business that creates jobs.

Business is what grows wealth, and even if your children are not running it when you pass, they can learn a lot of life lessons from watching their parents run the business.
