Wonderful story... and lovely girls... I do wonder what kind of doctors we have that can't use their training and ultrasound to see (for instance) three hearts or three sets of heads? I mean, to the stage where they stitched up mom before realizing there was another baby? Even with the sound meter you will hear the "wop wop wop" of three different heartbeats. We thank God for small miracles, because this could have been a different type of ending. |
Nice... I'm close to PH, and I been wan go Dubai or Turkey... my only wahala now is money for ticket... ![]() |
SarkinYarki:The trouble with airball is there's no air on the moon to inflate the ball... unless they carry a significant of compressed air, which can be rather heavy, in addition to the propellants. Pound for pound, you get more force from burning propellant than from uncompressing air from a tank, and you still have to hope the entire deploy-and-inflate mechanism doesn't misbehave. |
Udopasa:Abi now? My first reaction was "whaaaaaaaaa?" |
archangel1:No mind them. dingbang: MountainView:Do people think that $100million was just thrown down a pit? No, it was used to hire the best minds across a whole bunch of Israeli high-tech companies and pump money into their various technology industries: heavy machining, computing, chemicals, rockets, telecommunications, satellites, you name it. Imagine if Nigeria could seriously spend $100 million developing our tech industries and employing people. For a country like Nigeria, $100 million is not even much, it's almost like $0.50 per person (or N175, less than what each person spends on feeding daily). And to think our leaders steal this much on a monthly basis makes one so sad. Just reaching the moon and having the rocket fail during landing is a major achievement in itself. Do you know how many times USA, Russia, and China failed before they finally succeeded? India, Japan have also crash landed (didn't Japan also recently land on an asteroid?). Israel will try again, and within two years, will be successful. Nigerians will still be using foreign-made phones, enabled by foreign-made telecoms equipment, to disparage other countries, while celebrating the success of a pencil factory. |
ifymadu:You and I know there's not a maintenance plan in place... even if there were, those who are supposed to maintain will "borrow the funds", somehow equipment will disappear, and the next administration release contract to buy new buses in late 2022, just in time for 2023 elections... etc. |
He's a Taxify driver... report him to the company. Why is this an issue? |
OP, my eye blurred at seeing ₦1,200,000,000,000 ... is this cost to buy all of Banana Island or what CotenantNIG:OK no wonder... I been say. |
As in... this recent yahoo roundup day hot oh... boyz cannot flex again? ![]() |
"God has been good"... the Nigerian politician's codeword for "I was able successfully steal money and none of you can do sh!t." Has God been good to his constituents too? ![]() |
truthfulparrot:Yes indeed... they always ignore the root cause and go after symptoms. |
Dacronym:Yes, hence their 43% profits in Dangote Cement PLC, as reported on their last statement. In any market economy, gains/profits match risks, and Nigeria is a very risky place. Thank goodness they are making such large profits, because they're able to plow that money into the refinery. If anybody wants to reduce the price of cement, they are welcome to start their own plant (after all Lafarge and BUA were there before Dangote). These other existing companies are also welcome to crash the price and undercut Dangote. |
Is04970:Imo has some beautiful women, but it's like all the fine ones are in Lagos or Abuja at the moment. If you know, you know ![]() |
TheGiftedOne:Apparently we have 5 international airports (as in that process immigration and are bonafide ports of entry into the country): Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Enugu, Port Harcourt. Isn't Harcourt a person's name? Half joking, because I get your point ![]() |
I can't really fault the telecoms operators in this case: government (Federal, State, LGA) is in charge of fixing roads. They gave contract/concession to telecom operators to dig and lay cable, they should also contract with a road fixing company to fix said roads. The cables are still being laid, and it's taking time, but I'm confident the road will be fixed in due time. Of course, I wouldn't have waited till the near start of rainy season to dig trenches, but that's another matter. In another vein, I am struck by how much new fiber is being laid all over Nigeria. Not too long ago, people were laying cable all the way from Benin to Asaba (and I'm guessing all the way from Lagos, then across the Naija all the way PH or Calabar), alongside the expressway so I anticipate higher bandwidth (and cheaper cost) of data in the coming months. |
Tofax:Yep yep. They won't have let person hear word. Every single index has worsened since PMB took over. |
Served hot and cracking. Haba Yemi my crush... have mercy on that troll Chai!!!!!!!!!! ![]() Troll may have a point, but Yemi's point was sharper: she's collecting cash all around the world singing her "predictable pangolo" while all some people can do is post on borrowed credit. The people inviting her for concerts, endorsements, collaborations... they appear to like her enough to pay. When the troll is able to make hit songs and sell albums, maybe we can listen to her advice... till then, she should just collect her L and find some okada man to vent her frustrations on. |
"using their product..." as if they manufactured anything. Mtchew. |
Dacronym:The cost of making cement is much much higher in Nigeria than elsewhere. Elsewhere there are cheaper loans, good roads, well-educated and competent staff, cheap and constant electricity, easy access to quarries. If a company has to pay for loans with Naira that devalues at the drop of a hat, constantly fix their trucks due to shitty roads, buy diesel to generate electricity, and deal with inefficient staff, then profit margins have to go up to match the risks. |
I don't steal from banks... ![]() ...I send my boys to do it. |
seguno2:I ride on this road all the time and I remember it was decent under IBB, then deteriorated during Abacha. It was terrible in the first years of OBJ, then they fixed it. Then it worsened under Yaradua, then fixed during GEJ's time. Now it's becoming worse under PMB, and I expect they will fix it. This road just needs regular maintenance, like any road in the world, and no administration can say: "such and such did or did not fix it". All we want is for the current administration to continue to maintain and repair the roads. Full stop. Anything else is pointless excuse. |
Reference:Roads need repair every year. We need rail too, but roads anywhere in the world need constant repair. Tiny pits for example, get bigger with each passing car. Then rain falls in and softens the tar and the underlying clay which will swell and crack the tar even more. Then dry heat will cause the clay and tar to contract. Next thing you know a pothole develops. This is not counting the damage caused by accidents, nor hanging metal parts from vehicles that create long scars on the tar, nor police dragging logs and drums on it, nor the heavy trucks that shear the tar with each passing, nor even intentional sabotage. Nothing in this world is set and forget... roads needs regular annual checkup and maintenance, and every few years, overhaul, where the entire tar layer is scraped off and redone. |
funshint:You don't expect roads to be maintained annually? It's been 5 or 6 years since Jonathan fixed it... these kinds of roads that see such heavy traffic require annual maintenance, especially right before rainy season. |
Buying car for girlfriend... or giving her money for transport... no be the same thing? ![]() We're just discussing the price, not the if or why |
Provide well-maintained public toilets... and people will use them. There's really no other solution. Where you do expect somebody to wee during a long journey, and there's traffic? Even our women are experts... ever see a lady stand, shift pant, wee, and shake small, all in public view? No need to be ashamed while answering nature's call abeg. |
I know at least 23 officers that should be dismissed... can I give their names here? |
SageMK:Profound - but this is not new. It's been the case since Adam and Eve, and you can even see it in the animal kingdom - he who has the most, gets the most. |
People like abusing his children, saying they are lucky to be born with a silver spoon. He himself could have rested on his own father's laurels, after all his dad was a governor. But instead he bought a shitty truck and was selling diesel door-to-door, hustling. Their own grandfather nko... I don't recall he was born into wealth, but he worked hard for decades. I see the same hustling spirit in his daughters who may one day be billionaires in their own right. Of course they're leveraging their parent's wealth and connections - isn't that what all children do? Most youths today - if they looked hard - have much more opportunities for becoming successful today than in the 80's or even 90's. They will say "there's no money, they're no jobs"... yet people are making it in various ways. Happy birthday gal, and keep on rocking. |
... and sadly, the same DPO or DCO will send their boys out for collection quota... ![]() |
ChristianNorth:Of course... of course... you're right that's the big draw. |
dplordx:This was what I was trying to say, but you've said it so much more eloquently. |
