I would be at Aba train station in the morning to board the express train from PH to Kano. I would alight at Enugu station, walk to the stadium, buy my ticket for the day's match. If I had enough time before kick-off, I go to Owerri Road for a plate of Agidi- pepper soup. Today, trains aren't running that route anymore,no peace, folks are aggressive like lions at Serengeti. Seems like we are loosing our humanity in that part of the world!

True,i think that 'ofe ewa' is the nativ soup in Nkanu, Agwu and Nike areas of Enugu state. Ewa vegetable is like spinat. But cooked like Afang soup.

If our rural roads are good, farmers and our great Palm-wine tappers can get their produce easily to the towns where they will get better prices. We must learn to put value to our products. I know how my Nnewi friends fall over themselves on Nkanu Palm wine anytime they visit my village. Enugu-Ezike has good pammy too. Pineapples from Nnewe or Owerre- Court are said to be the most tasty in the country. I believe that Enugu state has a very bright future.

chima12: is farming not business?the only comparative advantage I see that the north has is that the federal govt has always favoured northern farmers with loans while discriminating against not just farmers against the east but the entire south as a whole.there are various dams used for dry season/irrigation farming in the north but you hardly find such facilities in the south.farmers in the south are really trying;govt policies do not favour them.

I don't know how old you are Chima, but as a teenager in the 80s, i saw on TV how state governments in the East complained bitterly how some of our "farmers" who took government loans under the then Anambra/Imo River Basin Development Authority used the money they should have invested in their farms to marry more wives. Some others used that credit to aquire new traditional titles or even to contest Igweship/Ezeship of their various communities. It was not funny to Mr. Jim Nwobodo and Mr. Sam Mbakwe!

I was hoping to get comments like yours. The truth be told - are we Igbos not most likely to be businessmen,traders and civil servants than being farmers? I still stand by my words - that Northern Nigeria has a comparative advantage over Igboland in agriculture. We must buckle up or sink in ethnic bigotry!

Who told you that east cannot produce those farm produce which u mentioned in significant quantity to feed its populace? The reason for the imbalance is that northern farmers has access to low-interest credit scheme which the eastern farmers doesn't have. Therefore northernen farmers can engage in commercial agriculture with little qualms. So their farm produce tends to be cheaper compared to the ones from the east. Therefore the natrural law of economics will take its due course. Cheap farm produce from the north drives the eastern farmers out of the market. If the ground is levelled up, I promise you that eastern farmers will compete favourably with their northern counterpart.

Even if we have more financial facilities from Igbo state governments, we don't have enough arable land to equal their production capacity. Besides, how many Ndigbo are willing to work in the farm this days? Are we going to import Somalis to work in our farms? Ever heard about comparative advantage?

High % of fresh tomatoes, almost all types of beans used for akara, moimoi etc are from North. The entire goats and ram consumed by Ndigbo, + including cattle slaughtered everyday in all the Akwata in Anigbo also come from there. Do you know how many tonnes of maize used for your nutritious Akamu that cross the Niger to us from northern areas? Igbos living in the North often claim that cheap food is one reason they love that hostile North. Please give due to whom it's due. Truly they get garri and palm oil from Southern states, but we are yet to reach their level in agriculture. How many people in the East are practicing large-scale agriculture?
