namet:She knew she was dealing with a more senior/sound/educated/rational officer; an officer who speaks English, uses a smart phone and even has an instagram account. |
virago: Abeg take it easy... ![]() |
y3mi:Please do... |
snailspeed:What exactly is this obsession Nigerians just have with irrationally attacking and attacking everyone they meet online? @snailspeed, Kindly point out where I directly or indirectly inferred that the policeman was right to slap a woman?... So because I said the lady broke a traffic law and was unruly, how does that automatically equate to "the woman deserves to be beaten"? How exactly do supposedly educated people come up with these ridiculous interpretations and then use their poor comprehension of simple English as a basis to harrass others online? What exactly is not consistent in my argument? In the first instance, I wasn't even arguing with anyone; I just made a statement that despite the demonising of the policeman, it is important to also point out that the woman was just another unruly/indisciplined Nigerian constituting a nuisance on the road. I also added that eye witness accounts actually claimed she wasn't even slapped as her story claimed. So oga, what exactly is the inconsistency about that? If you dont have anything to say, why dont you just be silent and walk away. Is that too difficult? |
Poor lighting in the first picture... Funny how so many people are just ignorant of the effect of lighting on a picture. |
PhilipGallagher: snailspeed:I understand the basic rules of discipline on the side of law enforcers and citizens alike. The whole story is focused on the policeman harassing a lady; I just thought it was necessary to also chip in the other side of the story about the lady alleged being just another unruly Nigerian. By the way I just saw a video on insragram of the same incident. The policeman involved has been forced to speak up; several other random witnesses gave also spoken up and they all claimed nobody, not even the policeman hit her. The polic3man actually also videod the event and had his phone seized by the lady.. What effrontery! Whilst we are quick to always condemn the police for their unruliness, we shouldnt also forget how unruly and indisciplined most Nigerians can be. |
I heard she was breaking traffic laws and chose to ignore the police officer's instructions before the altercation. |
Na wa.. they just suffered these guys endlessly. |
Octaves:What exactly has politics got to do with Innoson's case that has been on since 2014?... Innoson isn't even a politician so what exactly does this have to do with polotics? Some people need to really put off this victim mentality and persecution complex mentality which always governs every argument whenever an Igbo name is mentioned; it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous. |
Co-worker should have simply returned her question in like manner; "will you die if you say hello to people in the morning?" |
This senseless statement has to be the lowest of the lows from the 'presidency'. |
Wonderful! |
This is definitely a very ill thought programme... Give a man fish and you feed him for a day; give the same man fishing equipment, you feed him and his generation for life. In a country like Nigeria which suffers a devastating infrastructural deficit, it is purely silly for anyone to conceive such a wasteful idea. There are numerous examples of much needed infrastructural projects this money can fulfill. We all know it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for this money not to be looted by hawks in authority, but even if we are to just assume the money is actually being paid to the poorest of the poor, this programme still remains a monumental waste of scarce resources. $322 million at N305/$1 amounts to about N98.2 billion and if that amount is equally split into 6 parts, that amounts to ~N16 billion. N16 billion can as an example, build a very well equipped mega-hospital in each of the 6 geopolitical zones and that would remain an endearing legacy attached to Buhari's name. But unfortunately, our leaders think in different ways... It's high time Nigeria started having sound people as leaders... |
Sometimes you can't help but agree with Reuben Abati about a contrary spirit possessing all presidential spokespersons. Just imagine the blunder coming off the stables of Adesina... Buhari has killed his own government with his hands, and also spoilt the chances of any other Fulani. |

erico2k2:I mentioned the 28 weeks ssp in my first response to you. Coming back to the OP, I think both the boss and the woman are in the wrong. As most little companies in Nigeria do not have a sick leave policy, the boss permitting the woman some time off is a decision to be taken purely at his discretion. This isnt even a case of a sick employee, but rather an ill relative of an employee. From the tone of the conversation, the woman seemed to speak arrogantly with a weird sense of entitlement; she clearly didnt sound like one seeking a favour. The boss on the other hand didn't sound caring or sympathetic; he seemed to doubt the woman's honesty. Truth of the matter here is that business has to go on, we don't know the full story; the lady might even have already been away from work for an extended period. Whether it is Nigeria, or the developed world, there is always a limit to which leave entitlements or discretionary holidays can last. |
erico2k2:Yeah but even in the western world, remember that those entitlements have a definite limit; you mentioned that the company you work for allows you a full year sick leave entitlement with full pay, but the organization I work for allows me only a month with full pay, and there are several organizations out there in the UK which would only permit 8 days on full pay. At the end, it all depends on the policy of the organization you work for, and the discretion/humaneness of the ogas on top. |
erico2k2:1 full year, that's a very generous company, must be a reasonably large organisation that cares about staff welfare. Different companies have different policies, some of which are negotiable before you sign the contract. |
Pitokwe:I think the point most people are making on this thread is that the boss is within his rights to ask the woman to return to work or risk a termination. The boss may be said to be mean, but he's within his rights, business must continue. Moreover, I think the woman's tone was rather arrogant; she spoke as if it was her right and entitlement to be off work and not lose her contract. Like you said above, may we all work with good bosses and in good companies. |
erico2k2:I'm not really sure about the statutory minimum number of sick days an employee is entitled to in the UK, but I think it's somewhere about 8 days when the employer is required by law to pay the employee his full rate; afterwards, the employer is required to pay a statutory token amount (something about £90 per week for a further 28 weeks) as long as it is proven that the employee is really ill and unfit to work. Most companies/organizations however have their own policies; I once worked with a company whose sick leave policy stated a full month of full pay, followed by a second month at half pay, after which they now fall down to the statutory £90 per week. After the expiration of the first 2 months, the fate of the employees employment then falls on the discretion of the boss/company; in other words, the employee can be dismissed if the company thinks he is a burden. In the case of the Op, the woman isn't even the one who's ill, so even if it were in the UK, the boss has the right to ask her to return to work immediately of risk a termination. |
erico2k2:In the UK, there's a limited time period for which an employee is allowed to be away on sick leave. Nobody questions you if it's an illness or depression or heartbreak etc, bur once you exceed the allowable sick leave time, it starts with a reduced pay and will lead to a termination of your appointment if you dont return to work after a stipulated period. The only difference in the UK is that unlike the unfriendly tone of the Nigerian boss, the UK boss would pass the exact same inhumane message of appointment termination, but in a very polite tone. ![]() |
The pain the mum is going through can be understood, but in this situation, you can't really blame the boss; business must go on. From the tone of the conversation, it seems the woman had already been away from work for an extended period of time. To make matters worse, she speaks arrogantly and freely exhibits an irrational sense of entitlement. The boss also doesnt help and doesnt seem to show any human sympathy. In my opinion, both the woman and the boss are in the wrong. |
This keeps getting ridiculous... |
Hanseel1:I dont know of 2015, but in 2007 and 2011, he had a very very good outing; infact he won in 2007, but the massive rigging machinery and judicial bribery by PDP turned results around. |
1Sharon:Chronic pain, if not treated quickly with powerful pain killers, can lead to circulatory shock, which in turn can lead to death within a short time. I'm not a doctor and neither am I in the medical profession, but I've seen this situation happen several times especially with burn victims like this when they arent administered treatment urgently. At the moment, that dude still has adrenalin pumping through his system which explains why he's still calm; the moment the adrenalin stops, the real excrutiating pain from the 100% body injury sets in. |
GistMore:What exactly is the hate speech in calling for recurring murder victims to defend themselves against their aggressors?.... What exactly is hate speech in praying to God to destroy all the marauding killers and their sponsors wherever they are?... I'm guessing the so called activist Femi mustbe one of the animals slaughtering people all over the place or may be one of their sponsors; that explains why he felt threatened by the prayer. Too many morons just litter the length and breadth of Nigeria. *spits* |
1Sharon:Lol.. you have no idea what pain does. Infections wouldn't kill a person within 24 hours, but unbearable pain would. |
queensera:Sadly this guy may not live beyond 24 hours; he may seem alive now, but that's just the effect of the adrenalin rush drowning the pain. The moment the rush stops, he could die of pain. |
azimibraun:Can you show me some exerpts of his campaign so far? Just provide any videos or pictures as evidence that he's been campaigning. In response, I can provide at least 30 different videos of Sowore organising his #TakeItBack townhall meetings in different states of the federation and also in diaspora, I can also provide youtube video links of Sowore visiting IDP camps, markets, etc in his campaign journey. |
At the moment, Sowore seems to be the only candidate who has been making efforts at campaigning. He's visited most of the states of federation within the last few months and is obviously following a different approach from typical Nigerian political aspirants. Other candidates seem to just be waiting for December to get some endorsement from some political godfathers before they hit the ground running. |
