ThinkAkwaIbom: I've watched with utmost disbelief how one Okwuluora has mobilized unspeakable hate against Ibom Air, West Africa's only and most successful subnational Airline Brand.
According to him, there was a technical issue and their flight could not leave Enugu for Lagos. It is enough to rant, but mobilizing hate and calling for the end of the airline is wickedness and tribal witchcraftcy.
When people said the Igbos approached the 2023 elections with bigotry and bitterness, I defended them because I have a few of them as friends. What I have seen since last night by Igbo influencers is bigotry and bitterness.
There is no airline, Global and Local company that has not had cause to delay flights because of Technical glitches. From Emirates to Air France.
It is sad that the Igbos have subtly decided to attempt to demarket Ibom Air owned by a neighboring Akwa Ibom in a bid to promote an airline owned by one of them.
Today, Igbos are the second highest employees of Ibom Air, after Akwa Ibom indigenes. Ibom Air is owned by a State where over one hundred thousand Igbos are living peaceably and doing business without any form of attacks. The Igbos have businesses in Akwa Ibom and never has any conspire to demarket them. Tell me one single time Akwa Ibom people have shown hated against the Igbos?
For the records, Ibom Air is on the only Nigerian Airline listed in the top 10 airlines in Africa by the globally recognized Business Insider. Ibom Air was Leadership Company of the year and in only four years of commercial operations, Ibom Air is rated as one of the most successful airlines in the country.
Ibom Air has, as part of its assets, 10 A220 aircraft valued at one Hundred Billion Naira, and home Company to West Africa's only MRO facility. This is not a kind of investment you instigate hatred against.
I call on proud sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom to rise and defend our own brand.

ReubenE: I guess you are reading too much meaning into what I said. There is absolutely no complaint over creating unique zones for minority tribes.
You correctly said it is a geo-political zone and in the context of geography, South-South is a meaningless name. You asked if there is a difference between South-South and Niger Delta? I'm sure the difference is self explanatory. Again, no minority tribe in the south is complaining that a separate zone was created for them. My comment is not a political one but is about the meaningless name as it does not represent any geo-location I'm glad we agree that the term 'south-south' isn't just geographical, but rather a geo-political coinage. |

ReubenE: Same way North-North does not make any meaning is what South-South is. While the name does not have any direct bearing on capacity, Niger Delta would have made more meaning as a geo-political zone than that nonsensical South-South coinage.
There should be no South-South because there is none The south-south is a geo- political zone and not just a geographical area. The zones were carved out considering not only the geographical location, but also the political interest of the people involved. The SS was carved out of the western/midwest zone and the Eastern zone and the main consideration was to group southern minority tribes into a separate zone where they wouldn't be dominated by the 2 major tribes of the western and eastern block (Yorubas and Igbos). Ive never seen anyone from the SS or the North central zone complain of the fact that they were carved into separate unique zones. The term SS or Niger delta, what's the difference? And how does the term 'Niger delta' make it feel better?... besides, these are geo-political zones, not just 'political' zones; so would you have prefered the 6 zones in the country to be have NW, NE, NC, SW, SE and Niger Delta? Does it really make any sense? |

TheOldGods: in my all tears of studying geographical terrains, there is nothing on this earth like south South. It's either South East or south West. Nothing like South north, South South. The south South is South East. Hmm.. after spending so much time and resources studying geographical areas, isn't it amusing that you cant differentiate between a GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION and GEO- POLITICAL zones? Geo- political zones arent just about geography; other considerations were made when the geopolitical zones were defined. The SE homogenously harbours a majority tribe (Igbos). The SS zone is a grouping of the minority southern tribes. Similarly, you have the north-central zone which also doesnt exist on any compass. NC is a geopolitical zone expression which encompasses a group of minority tribes around the middle-belt. There's a politically expedient reason why these geopolitical groupings were made, one of which is to ensure that the majority tribes dont dominate and overshadow people from minority tribes, it's all about equity. Not even for once have I heard of people of the north-central or the south-south complaining about the existence of their unique geopolitical zones. So why does it have to always be people from the SE complaining about the existence of the SS and claiming the SS is part of the SE? You need not be so wise to understand that this attitude of yours can only elicit a feeling on 'suspicion' from the SS people. By asserting that the SS doesnt exist but is a part of the SE, isn't that the 'marriage by force' which the IPOB keeps preaching against? In one vain you complain of how the SE is forcefully joined to Nigeria; within the same space, you're forcefully attaching the SS to the SE without considering the opinion of the SS people? Please stop embarrassing Igbos online abeg! |

Car Talk › Re: The Effect Of Fuel Subsidy Removal On The Prices Of Cars by obailala(m): 5:23pm On Jun 06, 2023 |
zeenaman: Personal opinion:
The relationship between cars and Petrol is complementary in nature. Complementary in the sense that, one is needed to augment the other, just like garri and kulikuli.
Going by basic economics principle, there is an inverse price relationship between complementary goods i.e an increase in the price of one results in decrease in the demand for the other. With this, it is conceivable that with increase in the price of petroleum, there will be less demand for cars, hence result in price crash occasioned by excess supply over demand.
Also, from the angle of the Federal government, the rich benefit more from the subsidy. People with ten cars will now find it unfunny fueling the convoy, and this may result in selling off some of the vehicles. This should further increase the supply of cars and drive down the price.
Let's talk about this, do you see the price of cars crashing? Let's leave out the Nigerian factor, corruption and base our argument on fact. Let's leave out the Nigerian factor? But that's the most important bit which controls and distorts everything else. In Nigeria, no law of economics works; the only prevailing law in Nigeria is the Nigerian factor! .. In otherwords, no price is coming down! |

But do you sincerely believe that the spirit of the constitution wants compulsory 25% electoral requirement for the FCT before someone can be declared winner? It's not about what the authors of the constitution intended, its not even about what makes sense; it's more about what's written in the constitution. Oh yes, the 25% requirement in the FCT doesnt make any sense; I had this very discussion on this forum right before the election on the impropriety of that "25% in FCT" requirement... there're also many provisions in the constitution that just make no sense. The authors of the constitution may have intended something else, but the language used in the document clearly says something else. |

Merry100: Even though I had to follow certain doctrines when I was younger, I have come to question some of them as they cannot be proven through the Bible. I am particularly curious about where the Bible specifically forbids wearing earrings. My parents are devout Christians, and they did not even pierce my ears, let alone allow me to wear earrings. However, one day I felt like wearing an earring, so I put on a magnetic earring and went out. Later in that day, I attended a Church program a friend invited me but when I got to the Church, I was asked to remove my earring or leave.
I am not trying to shade Christianity, not all Churches treat visitors that way, I was even surprised at the way I was treated that day. I am just specifically curious about where God condemned earring in the Bible? I accept that all Churches have their own doctrines but some of these Churches still use there doctrines to rate Christians from other Churches. Is wearing earring a sin or just some Church doctrines? I can't find any verse in the Bible that condemns earring. If you know any please indicate. Different churches have different doctrines which they practice. Doctrines dont necessarily have to be direct commandments from the bible; they could just be cultural practices adopted by a group of worshippers; e.g. some churches choosing to wear white flowing garments every sunday. The logic is simple, if you dont feel comfortable doing that, there's thousands of other churches who dont practice the doctrine which you find uncomfortable. |

Success1981: Whether he is using strong voodoo on the various leaderships or they are part of the business. Nigeria's democracy has been so far created for Dangote because I remembered in 1999 when Obasanjo banned importation of cement and gave Dangote full monopoly of cement distribution and this is how subsequent administrations have been working for him aside Yaradua. Just 2/3 days in the opening of Dangote refinery and this is what we get. Oh yes, subsidy has been removed for Dangote as you claim; but was the offer not open to everyone?..... Dangote simply knows how and when to take the bull by the horn. You cant keep hating a smart acheiver. During the early OBJ days, the FG came up with the cement import substitution policy. Cement importers at the time were mandated to setup local manufacturing plants within a period of some years. Upon expiration of the time period, only those who heeded and showed evidence of setting up local production plants would have their import licenses renewed. Dangote of course jumped in on this and started with Obajana cement plant in 2005. As expected, his import license was renewed while several others fell off the grid, heralding the start of his monopoly... Can you really blame Dangote for being a smart man? Then regarding fuel; since 1999, successive federal administrations have been begging and begging investors to come set up refineries and hundreds of licenses have been issued sonce 1999. Of course the import substitution policy still exists, i.e. only those who have capacity and who refine locally will retain a license to import. But once again, businnessmen shied away from building refineries for decades, citing the concerns that non-deregulation of the downstream sector would make the refining business unprofitable. Again, successive federal govts promised time and time again to fully deregulate once local refining capacity comes up. Despite this, businessmen remained skeptical and chose to stick with petroleum importation which brings easy, quick and low risk money. Dangote of course dared to take the path which most businessmen regarded as 'foolish' by investing in a refinery. Now as history is about to repeat itself again (in a massive way), haters have started gathering in whatsapp groups. |

juvewalex: He didn't explain why local production won't reduce fuel price , if you're producing in Nigeria, will there still be a landing cost ?
Nigeria government is never straight forward in dealing with its citizens.
Na still corruption be this anyways. I was trying to explain this to someone just yesterday. Dangote refinery can't automatically reduce petrol prices. Yes local production could lower the pump price, but not enough to give us 'cheap' fuel cos the total landing cost of petrol isnt made up of just the import logistic component.... There's also the raw material cost and then the massive exchange rate issue. At the current cost of N500+, local production could probably push the price down to around N400, but that can happen only if the refining was by NNPC. Knowing who Dangote is, he'd want to make a decent profit. Over time however, local production would translate to massive forex savings and excess forex would mean strengthening of the Naira. When the Naira strenghtens to about the N360/$ level, then perhaps pump prices would drop to about N300 (this should be about a year after Nigeria stops importing fuel). |
