Politics › Re: With Dangote Refinery Is There A Chance For Petrol To Go Below #100?? by obailala(m): 12:21pm On May 22, 2023 |
bentenny: Its possible if the following are strictly adhered to......
1. Other local refineries should start working immediately in order to create competition which will ensure the prices reduce! 2.Crude oil is sold to local refineries in naira and at a slightly affordable rate 3.There must be constant and reliable power supply to the refineries 4.There must be tax incentives to encourage refineries to moderate their price. If crude is sold to Dangote at a rate lower than the international market price, that's the same thing as SUBSIDY cos the government would be sacrificing revenue to make petrol cheap. The only thing that can really make petrol cheaper now is the exchange rate. If the dollar drops down to N150, then petrol may sell for N100 or less (if govt tightens the noose on Dangote to not inflate his profits). If the dollar remains at N750, petrol prices would remain high except govt subsidizes. |
Politics › Re: With Dangote Refinery Is There A Chance For Petrol To Go Below #100?? by obailala(m): 8:34am On May 22, 2023 |
Revolution2022: This is why petroleum products is subsidized in Nigeria. The foreigners will come to Nigeria and buy our crude oil at an OPEC price of maybe a $100per barrel or they will buy stolen crude oil at a very reduce price from the Nigerian elites who tap oil from burst pipelines. They will take the oil to their country to refine products like aviation fuel, vehicular fuel, diesel, engine oil, etc.NNPC approved petroleum marketers will go there and buy it and transport it back into Nigeria to sell. This is where they swindle Nigerians. The oil marketers will add their own pockets money. There are different charges that are imposed in the oil vessels by the government.Like the number of days the oil vessels stays in the sea and landed in Nigeria before the petroleum products are discharged into the reservoir. All these are incurring additional charges daily which is call "Demurrage. Another charges are the ones the oil marketers pay to the Nigerian government which is VAT and many others. That is why the government say they are subsidizing fuel which in most cases are lies. Everything you said here is true except the last statement; govt truly subsidises petrol prices in Nigeria and the logic is extremely clear (except of course to politicians who just want to make political arguments). E.g. Buhari who was claiming subsidy wasnt real is now the one lamenting that subsidy payment needs to stop. We need to drop the political arguments and just face the clear facts, subsidy is real. All those other logistic costs you mentioned are real and cannot be wished away. Even if we exclude all the logistic costs, just the price of crude alone (currently at $73) is enough to drive the price of imported petrol above N200, especially when you consider the current exchange rate. Even if Dangote refinery starts and Nigeria stops importing fuel, the global price of crude (in dollars) and the exchange rate will still push the price of petrol above N200, except of course the govt subsidises it again. MyMouth: It's possible. Nigeria will sell crude to him at subsidized rate so he will at sell at reduced price. That's the same thing as Nigeria subsidizing the cost of petrol. If the government would sacrifice its revenue to make fuel cheap, the sacrificed revenue = SUBSIDY. |

Jones4190: Sen. Godswill Akpabio of the APC met with the former Chairman of Labour Party, Julius Abure at their hqtrs. yesterday.
Julius Abure enjoys patronage from Peter Obi and OBIdients. He is their beloved Chairman.
But the upright, diligent and authentic Lamidi Apapa is the one accused of working for APC/Tinubu. You people no really get sense walai. Chaii.... the level of ignorance flowing about this thread is mind blowing. So because Akpabio (a contestant for the senate presidency) visited the LP HQ to seek support for his ambition, it automatically means the LP chairman is working for APC? Are you aware the LP doesnt have any candidate contesting for the senate presidency? And that the LP senators literally have to support one of the contestants from APC? |

Romance › Re: How To Reduce Hook-ups In Nigeria by obailala(m): 4:38pm On May 18, 2023*. Modified: 5:07pm On May 18, 2023 |
Gerrard59: Sequel to these threads (https://www.nairaland.com/7678352/hookup-culture-nigeria-bad-even/1#122971617; https://www.nairaland.com/7680544/what-caused-hookup-culture/5#123045490) where Nairalanders, mostly males, keep complaining about the rise of hookup in Nigeria. I thought it pertinent to outline solutions that will REDUCE, not stop the trend.
The demand for sex by men is rising and consistent. As long as men crave sex and women are the only suppliers, nothing can be done. For hookups to reduce, Nigerian men should reduce their insatiable quest to have sex with random women. It is like having a department where male lecturers don’t do engage in sex for grades, ladies who are open to such will be forced to read their books whether they like it or not. Men create the system and women integrate into it. To buttress this, when women who have been doing hook-up attain 30+ years, there is a declining demand for their services because sexual service is tied to age and how young a woman is. As a result, she is either forced to retire or accept lower fees. This is because her customers – all men – have either stopped patronising her or are offering less cash. The men control the system.
It is a biological fact (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22552705/#:~:text=Sexual) for men to yearn for sex more than women. Women are literally the only people who can quench this thirst. Some will say it is because of greed, but c’mon! If you own something which is in high demand that is not regulated nor banned by the government, are you saying you won’t charge prices for it? Remember, this demand is consistent and persistent.
But errm, hook-up is the same with yahoo yahoo or drugs trading.
That is not true. Cybercrime, like the name implies, is a crime in almost every part of the world. Some governments legalise sex work and even offer health care services and tax them. But no government has legalised defrauding people online. This is because policymakers realise that sex is a natural phenomenon in which humans and animals indulge. You cannot outlaw people having sex. It is not possible. Even in conservative Dubai (https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2023/01/05/women-in-the-middle-east-are-leading-a-revolt-against-prudish-men), women are going behind the corners to import intimacy gadgets. The government by law bans it, but does not arrest those who import it. But try importing guns into the country and see the government’s reaction. Dealing with hard drugs is not a natural concept for humans. It is acquired, so governments ban it or regulate it tightly compared to sex work.
For instance, in Geylang, Singapore, young women mostly from China engage in hookups under regulation from the Singaporean government. But if you transport drugs to Singapore, you get the death penalty, no ifs or buts. Japan has the second biggest porn industry globally, but you will be arrested, denied a lawyer for 21 days and detained or deported if you transport drugs into the country. The UAE restricted Nigerians’ entry, mostly men. The UAE would rather have Nigerian girls doing hookups in Dubai than her men committing cybercrime. There has not been a break-in by the Emirati police to arrest hookers compared to bursting cyber criminals. Whether we like it or not, the hook-up culture has come to stay. Prostitution is as old as mankind itself; it can't be stopped but can be reduced. 3 factors that led to the hookup pandemic: 1. GREED 2. Erosion of morals 3. POVERTY...Before now people had a bit more self-value and would feel embarassed to sell themselves for money. But all that has changed; our value system as a people is totally eroded. Old men and women alike, without any iota of self respect or shame, brazenly stealing and behaving like imbeciles just for financial gain once they find themselves in positions of authority. Then we have young boys fully soaked into the Yahoo-Yahoo culture. Even the adults have lost the moral right to chastise the younger ones; previously respectable members of society such as Pastors, Imams etc. can't even chastise these guys any more cos they are also involved. Was only a matter of time before our younger girls (who for a long time have felt left out) would catch-up on the shameless parade. From the 3 factors I listed above, only 1 can be controlled = POVERTY. Greed is already a part of our lives and our lost morals are already lost for good; the only thing that can be changed is the poverty pandemic. If the people were economically empowered, our girls would place a higher value on their kpekus and the inflation would lead to lower patronage from men, which in-turn would reduce the prevalence of the problem. |

It's actually the people of Warri that destroyed Warri with greed, laziness and excessive lust for the wealth of others. No major city in this world was developed only by the indigenes of the city; it's usually outsiders that develop cities. But when the people of Warri felt it was their right to walk into the business premises of everyone who wasnt an indigene to extort money, that was the beginning of the end of Warri. Respectable people who should have denounced the madness at the early stages chose to either be silent or they justified the madness on the useless excuse that "the youths are angry cos they dont have jobs" - now the extortion has since been extended to even the indigenes and companies have fled.
The 'deve' nonsense also happens in other states and cities across Nigeria, but the state governments somehow wades in to control and regulate the excesses of the louts. But has Delta ever had a serious govt? A major reason warri died is because Delta state has been cursed with the worst set of imbeciles as leaders since 1999; and strangely, the people keep supporting the same kind of individuals as leader. |

Dsalvo: You people just lie shamelessly forgetting the Internet never forgets. That is a section from my first response here.
Where did I express bitterness and frustration over her feat? Is directly giving her kudos covered by your lies crafted to denigrate others with a different opinion to yours?
The main issue I have is the circus, most especially politicians, have made around the woman's effort which makes it appear we are a nation of losers looking for anything at all to overhype perhaps because we have nothing going for us.
Obi's wife visited, Sanwo Olu is there and even Tinubu I support is joining the cynical hijacking of the lady's endeavour.
It is like the whole nation is jobless and full of opportunists (politicians and celebs wanting glory by association) and losers who have so little to celebrate that everything, however trivial, is made a very big deal.
Everyone made a circus over the lady's achievement and that is pathetic. Those really progressive and set their personal bar high will know precisely what I mean. Oga leave all these your rants; you clearly expressed bitterness and disgust when you repeatedly labelled ordinary Nigerians who graciously supported and cheered Hilda as "unserious people, a people with a misplaced priority, a people dumbed down by the media etc." It was the specific words you used that drew me to your comments... There's nothing wrong in supporting a compatriot in achieving here dreams (whether the dream means anything to me or not); even Ghanaians were cheering her on Twitter too, but some you just had to have a problem with that? There are Nigerians doing very innovative and developmental things who need our support and attention yet the discrimination against them, by an equally frivolous press who love 'dumbing down' Nigerians, starts from the media who fail to report about these people and what they are doing.
What exactly is special about what she is doing? It is a personal record and prestige for the lady herself , and kudos to her, but it is not a nationally valuable achievement.
Fact is if Nigerians were more mature, more disciplined, more focused on serious endeavours and solutions provision then we would be a far more successful nation.
