Bitterleafsoup:Are you implying that as soon as GEJ left, the booming agriculture also left with him? ... How come that agriculture is not sustaining Nigeria now that oil price has crashed?... Oh I forgot, as soon as PMB entered, all the plants withered? Even with the wonderful transformation agenda and the boom in agriculture and the adept economic team of GEJ, how come Nigeria's economy crashed uncontrollably as soon as global oil prices fell even before GEJ handed over? Every human understands the correlation between global oil prices and Nigeria's economy, but obviously some adults for the sake of political sentiments have chosen to reason like kindergarten pupils. Good night! |
christconscious:Thank God you know, all Nigeria needs is prayers now because if the oil price doesn't come back up, those things you complain of will continue to get worse. And yes, even if Buhari had the brains of 10 Einsteins (which he obviously doesnt have), there is no economic magic that instantly turn around the economic turmoil we find ourselves in presently. This is purely what you get when a nation depends on only one volatile priced commodity for its income, and then the country at the same time has no savings for rainy days such as these. The unfortunate fact remains that even any effort made at diversifying the economy today cannot still yeild fruits instantly, it will take a substantial time to manifest even whilst things continue to get worse. Nigerians need to brace up for bone-breaking recession, this is beyond Buhari or any voodoo economist. |
id911: DedeNkem:No nation or even a person should depend on only a single commodity or source of income, especially when this commodity has such a very volatile price. However the fact of this matter is simple, Nigeria unfortunately depends on only one commodity and the price of this commodity has crashed uncontrollably. The crash in price of this commodity has consequently led to a crash of Nigeria's economy. The second and most painful fact of the matter which too many people have failed to realise is that there is basically no economic magic that can be done to save Nigeria from its present economic turmoil on the short term. If the oil prices don't miraculously turn around now, I forsee the Naira dropping to N400 to $1 or worse very soon. Any efforts made at diversifying the economy now (no matter how wonderful the policies are) can only yield positive effects at a much later date after Nigerians must have already suffered a lot. That is the unavoidable reality on ground. Meanwhile some Nigerians are still complaining of inability to obtain forex to go on xmas vacations and I laugh because its clear a lot of people dont still appreciate how bad things are presently. |
DedeNkem:And I suppose the freefall in global oil prices which led to the terrible economy in the first instance, I suppose the oil price has risen in your own world right? |
Impeach kwa? PDP and their train of shameless wailers never cease to amaze and amuse. Even when humans pass away, loved ones dont keep crying continuously like this. But it seems these bleedy jonathanians will be crying like babies for straight 4 years. And then it will continue beyond 2019 to complete it a straight 8 years. In some of their kpako minds, if PMB is impeached, then their lord and saviour GEJ will automatically become president till 2019 ![]()

LordAdam:Guy go and drink your ogogoro in peace biko! |
LordAdam:Do you even have a brain at all sef?... What kind of human being is this? |
mekaboy:I am tired of hearing this continuous empty talk about how GEJ's wonderful economic policies turned Nigeria to heaven and then Buhari came in and reversed everything. Even an infant knows that when there is high inflow of forex (oil money), the economy flourishes, but as soon as the inflow of forex stops, the economy shrinks (except there was savings). Meanwhile with all the wonderful and economic policies of GEJ and his adept team, can you kindly tell me what happened to Nigeria's economy between November 2014 and May 2015?... Even with the so called wonderful economic team and policies, Nigeria's economy turned around on its head as soon as the oil price crash kicked in; the Naira value fell from around N170 to N220, the GDP growth rate crashed from the highs of 6-7% to about 2.3% (its lowest in over a decade), even the FG had to borrow money to pay common salaries to FG workers even though at this period oil prices were still over $60/barrel as compared to $32/barrel which it is today. But now, GEJ supporters like yourself have conveniently overlooked all this and hung the entire blame on Buhari's head for the nosedive in our economy?... How treacherous! You claim Buhari does not have an economic policy and that is why things are bad. Obviously in your fantasy world, you expect Buhari to conjure magicians and prophets from heaven to come and manage an economy which currently has no money; probably you want these angel economists to pluck forex reserves from trees to balance the economy. You obviously did not see anything wrong in a nation not saving for the rainy day, but now the rainy day has come, you expect voodoo economists to come and manufacture money to cushion the effect or a recession? Now let met put it straight in a nutshell, contrary to what any voodoo economist tells you, there is absolutely nothing that can be done on the short term to bring Nigeria out of its current recession except we resort to massive borrowing or recovery of looted funds. There is no amount of economic policy that can make an economy which has no money to be instantly buoyant. Whatever it is that can be done by even the best economists, the positive effects will take a reasonable time to manifest. If this oil prices doesn't rise soon, things will only get worse. And finally, it is meaningless to compare the performance of Jonathan who ruled in time of plenty, to a Buhari who has only held sway for less than a year in a time of deep recession. If you must compare both leaders, then compare with Jonathan's performance in handling the economy between October/November 2014 and May 2015 and you will be shocked at what a failure he was. I rest my case! |
LordAdam:Both statements are unfortunate. But if you want to be honest about which is more callous, it is common sense. GEJ boasted to punish his own followers because the governor of their state, just one (1) man was against him. He boasted that they should not expect a single federal project. Now compare that to PMB who stated that areas which didn't give him much support shouldn't expect 'equal' treatment with areas which gave him overwhelming support. Both statements are unfortunate and I would have loved to leave it at that, but since you chose to quantify which is more unfortunate, even an infant can tell how lowly and diabolic the statement of GEJ was. Besides, unlike PMB who only spoke, GEJ actually made good his threat. SS states receive 13% derivation, have a Ministry, have NDDC and state PADECs.What on earth are you yapping about?... even an infant knows the difference between statutory federal allocations and federal government projects. Every state receives its statutory allocations and that has always been the case since 1960 till date irrespective of president. We are referring here to federal government projects and not federal allocations. The statement of GEJ in that regard was totally indefensible! [s]Wow, I have had this wrong notion for a while that I was communicating with an intelligent fellow. Now, I know that is not the case.[/s]In your bid to introduce insults, you are unknowingly exposing your own unintelligence. I do not believe I am arguing with a 5 year old pupil so I did not think I needed to spell out everything for you in the kindergarten style for you to understand. I'm sure you are a smart adult but you are now obviously trying to play dumb because you lack what to say. [A] For a nation of over 170 million people which imports most of its essential needs, a foreign reserve of $29billion is a dangerously low figure. That's the reason why CBN is desperately guarding the meagre reserves. When you were a teenager, a savings of N20,000 may have passed you as a rich boy, but your dad having N50,000 as total savings with a family of 6 to cater for, that is a dangerously low figure. [B] The income of a nation reduces by over 60% and you dare to act like you do not know the implications of that?... I do not know whether you have a job, but assuming you do and your employer suddenly cuts over 60% of your income, would it be sensible for any human to expect your standard of living to remain the same?... So much for Mr. Intelligence. Now, let me make you look stupid. You absolutely need not say more because you will only expose your gross ignorance more and more. In July 2008, global oil prices peaked at $147 (the highest ever) and do you know what reasonable leaders do when that happens?... THEY SAVE! In just over a year of Yaradua's administration, Nigeria had grown its foreign exchange reserve from about $42bn to $62bn. However, an oil price crash similar to the one we suffer now happened and global crude prices plunged from $147 to about $40/barrel. The only reason why Nigeria survived that crises in 2008 was because we had savings; it cost Nigeria about $20billion within a year to cushion the effect of the 2008 oil price crash. We did not survive because of any "adept FG economic team or astute policies" like you ignorantly allude, Nigeria survived because we had leaders then who knew the importance of saving for the rainy day. Today, Nigeria is grappling with the devastating effect of a volatile oil price all because we had a leader who didn't think it was necessary to save a dime and here we have someone who brags about his intelligent trying to justify and glorify such reckless and retrogressive style of leadership. God forbid! http://www.edinburghjournalisminternational.com/business-finance/why-nigeria-largely-escaped-the-global-financial-crisis.html |
Maybe he was pressed.. That inevitable call of nature can sometimes come even at the wrongest moments ![]() *Runs away from thread** |
LordAdam:Buhari made only a 'statement' and you have crucified and buried him. Yet you want to completely exonerate GEJ who not only made a statement but also made good his threat by not bringing FG development to Rivers state?... you claim GEJ did it for only one year and for one state so therefore it no biggie?... Chaii!.. This must be dried paw-paw leaves at work. Oh... You claim Amaechi received federal allocation so therefore the Rivers people had nothing to complain about?... is it federal allocation we are talking about here?.... Please tell me one single 5% state that has not received federal allocation since Buhari took over?... In fact kindly tell me one single SE or SS state that has not received federal allocation since the beginning of Nigeria in 1960?... What exactly is even the marginalisation that the SE and SS are complaining about since you have chosen to equate federal presence with 'routine federal allocation'?.... You really need to stop smoking those dried leaves for your own good ![]() More than 40% of the ECA reserves was shared by states, the same states could not pay their workers and now need the federal government to bail them out, and yet you do not blame the governors but the ex-president. Which federal government civil servant is been owed 13 months salary? Why are you blaming the incompetence of the state governors on the ex-president?Never did I blame the FG for the recklessness of the state governors. I only asked a simple question, what did the FG do with the larger chunk (60%) of the ECA funds which was it's share?.... Are you trying to now blame state governors for the inability of the FG to save anything from its own mega share of the funds? *So, you think it is fair to contribute the fall in oil prices to the slowdown in the economy under PMB but not GEJ. Most major economies including China, Russia, Norway, Canada suffered a slow down in growth. Are you trying to imply that GEJ should have performed magic. If so, why has PMB not performed the magic and moved us from 3% back to 7%? Stop speaking from both sides of your mouth, it is disgusting.Gbam!... You have said it all, there is basically nothing left for me to say; you have just made life easy for me with these your statements I didn't know you were even this smart all these while so why on earth have you been stressing me? If you actually know that an economy blossoms when money flows, and shrinks when money stops flowing, so why have you been directly comparing Buhari's handling of the economy (in recession) to GEJ's handling of the economy when there was obviously plenty?... Do you honestly think that's a fair comparison?... You even acknowledge that the economy also shrunk rapidly under GEJ when oil prices started falling, so why on earth are you crucifying PMB when you actually know the reason behind the current shrink? ![]() PMB is a slow, senile, illiterate cow rearer that has packed a bunch of visionless wannabes that think government is a game of passing blames. We have income and we have savings (don't be sentimental), what is killing our economy is his inaction....You are obviously a very amusing and confused fellow; kindly compare this your statement with the statements you just made above. You previously acknowledged the global oil prices crash and its attendant effect on Nigeria's income and economy; a problem which affected the later end of GEJ's administration and which is still affecting PMB's administration. Now after acknowledging this obvious problem which even a pre-schooler understands, you have turned around to now claim that we have income and we have savings and that the problem is PMB's inaction? Could this irrational flip be the effect of those paw-paw leaves? |
Wizprodigy:I didn't even see this response earlier. All these while I even thought I was arguing with someone who was at least a little bit informed. I Never knew I was arguing with someone who had absolutely no idea what the thread he's responding to is talking about. It's a shame! A little extract from the main post FYI... Entire Defence Budget of GEJ's Era Should Be probed...The total budget under GEJ from 2011 to 2014 of ~N3.5trillion is what this thread was talking about; you could confirm the figures with a simple google search. Learn to educate yourself and establish what a discussion is all about before you step in with funny arguments. |
RickyTan:Learn to stop tribalising every single issue, that's the simple message I've been trying to pass all along. |
Which kind of rotten soup/sauce is this?... What concerns presidency budget with cars for legislators? |
This is very good news. I hope this new policy will be strengthened with all necessary legislative and constitutional backing. State would no longer have any excuses for being parasitic. |
Derawiz:You not the president of Nigeria, you are not a senator of the federal republic, but you want to dictate to these people how they should prioritise their jobs? |
phadriz:I always laugh when I read this recurring statement about 'economic policy' and 'economic blueprint.' The fact of this matter is that the bulk of Nigeria's foreign exchange comes from oil and oil prices have fallen by over 70%. There is no amount of economic policy from even the greatest economic experts in the world that can automatically save Nigeria from the inherent economic doom within the short term. In essence, there is nothing Nigeria can do to turn its fortunes around in the short term except the global oil prices turn around. In a situation like this, it is not out of place for Nigeria to desperately try to recover recoverable looted funds at least to survive within the short term while we wait for any economic policy to mature. Just like a labourer who loses his source of income and then plants a vineyard, one thing he can do to survive while the vineyard grows is to try and recover funds from his debtors. Already N360 billion has been included in the 2016 budget as 'recovered looted/misappropriated funds.' You don't expect such moneys to be ignored while the nation dies of hunger do you? |
EbukaFran:On the bolded part of your message, contrary to your insinuation that these guys received free government money, the most ironic, shameful and bizarre truth is that a majority of these people did not actually receive a dime from anyone. Their actions, responses and overall stance is purely driven by an irrational emotional attachment to GEJ. The minds of these guys have been so messed up that once they hear the word 'corruption,' their mind goes to GEJ, and whenever they hear anyone wants to fight corruption or anyone (irrespective of tribe) is being investigated for corruption, their minds automatically interpret it as an attack on their beloved GEJ and his legacy. It's a really bizarre situation we find ourselves in right now, it's really wonderful how the human mind works. |
RickyTan:I give up on you... Okay, Ambode demolished the market purely to punish Igbos because he hates Igbos. In fact his hatred for Igbos was amplified when Igbos failed to vote for him. Ambode will even do anything humanly possible to punish and punish the Igbos until he completely cripples every Igbo business and sends Igbos out of Lagos. Ambode is a terrible diabolic Yoruba man whose hatred for Igbos transcends human understanding and he will never rest until he sees Igbos completely annihilated. Obviously the above narrative is the sort of story you just want to hear over and over again. It is sweet melody to your soul, nothing else gives more pleasure to your heart and it even gives you intense orgasms. There you go with the exact thing you want to hear.. Good night! |
RickyTan:And you hold on tightly to the words of one probably drunk ex-policeman as a very reasonable justification to sustain a tribal feud against an entire tribe?... and you claim you know the negative effect of this feud?... very interesting! |
RickyTan:Oh so you even know Igbos and Yorubas are hurting themselves with this madness even while the north enjoys the spoils?... Interesting! I had no idea some of you who fuel this needless tribal feud are actually aware of this fact. Wow! |
RickyTan:Lol... okay continue in your beautiful delusion, and maaybe in 10 years I would be glad to know where it has advanced you to. Goodluck! |
RickyTan:You seem not to have gotten my simple point. Firstly I am not Yoruba, and yes I am from the SE; but I happen to be one of those who don't believe in the age long propaganda that the rest of Nigeria is just out to do nothing but hunt Igbos. I believe every other tribe is simply hustling for their collective daily bread and Igbos should be doing same instead of always lamenting and accusing every one else of witch-hunting. In summary, I fall into the category of Igbos fondly labelled as 'efulefu' because I dare to see and reason things differently from the crowd. And regarding Ambode, there is hardly any state in Nigeria where governments dont demolish market stalls of innocent masses, It happened in warri, it happened in kaduna, abuja, portharcourt, owerri, benin, onitsha etc. and the stories have always been similar with the government not giving enough time for traders to move out their goods. My worry however is the way in which Igbos of recent have always quickly labelled every single problem of such nature as a pre-determined tribal assault specifically targeted against Igbos. This continued paranoid stance only has one effect, it will force more Igbos to hate other tribes especially their hosts wherever they go and this hate will consequently lead to the hosts hating Igbos in return. In a nutshell, this continued paranoia is not healthy for the welfare of Igbos or anyone at all. Now your mind is already 100% made up that Oshodi market was demolished by Ambode purely because Ambode hates Igbos. This is the exact precedence I am talking about, it is a very unhealthy mindset which will neither help you nor the general Igbo society across Nigeria. But unfortunately, many Igbos have already been caught by this bug. |
Some governors have been making the news for the right reasons with world class economy changing projects while some others have been busy cutting kpomo and buying fresh fish by the roadside. And strangely, their supporters seem to prefer the kpomo cutting dude. ![]() |

VintageCocktail:"He who brings home ant infested firewood should not be surprised when lizards begin to gather." - Chinua Achebe I'm sure you know the exact reason behind my sarcastic comment. |
Obiano certainly hates Igbos, God will deal with him for this. ![]() |
...Rufai may not be a bad president, but there would be an unavoidable and impossible to ignore public outcry over one hausa-fulani handing over to another hausa-fulani president. And t :Dhat is when Nigeria will eventually split ![]() |
RickyTan:Firstly, not everyone that doesn't agree with the general widespread story that Igbos are being oppressed by the rest of Nigeria is a Yoruba person, there are over 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria and there are also some Igbos too who don't agree with this age long propaganda. Secondly, Nigeria is a country greatly divided along the ethnic lines, there is basically no tribe that doesn't hate or mistrust the other. Yorubas hate /mistrust Igbos and likewise, Igbos hate and mistrust Yorubas. But something that cannot be disputed is the fact that somehow, these 2 tribes have managed to co-exist peacefully in Lagos and other areas of the SW for a long time. Besides in the volatile north, there is basically nowhere in Nigeria where Igbos are not living peacefully and prospering. So my problem is, why do we want to deliberately break this peace? Since the elections of 2015, some groups have continued to fuel and escalate this tribal hatred, a lot of Igbos like yourself have obviously fallen victim of this treachery. I do not know what some of you hope to achieve if Yorubas and Igbos eventually fail to see eye to eye. Every single thing is now painted as ‘a deliberate assault on Igbos’ and this further forces more neutral Igbos to hate Yorubas. I wonder what you hope to achieve with this. Now you accuse Ambode of hating Igbos and deliberately destroying their markets exclusively to punish Igbos. No doubt, the government was wicked and irresponsible by not letting enough time for traders to move their things, but I wonder where you have arrived at your conclusion from that this was done because Ambode hates Igbos and wanted to punish Igbos. This is not the first time we heard of such accusation, the last time it was that 'Fashola hates and deports Igbos,' even though the same Fashola also deported Yorubas to some SW states too. Once again I ask, do you honestly think such a paranoid mindset (which can only fuel tribal hate), do you honestly think this mindset would be beneficial to anyone?.. If you honestly think it is beneficial, or it will be beneficial, then continue. |
VintageCocktail:Lol... I don't think I need to go that far, I got my woman and my bottle of odeku to calm my nerves. |
