Gee15:Whatever improves the nation is my concern, be it private or government owned. The planned dangote refinery has a capacity of 650k barrels/day, that is more than 3 times the production capacity of the biggest refinery in Nigeria today (PH refinery of 210k barrels/day). If it comes on stream, it will likely end fuel importation and in no time, Nigeria would be exporting refined products. That is absolutely worthy of my attention. |
dadexcel: Sunnycliff:If you looked closely, you would have observed that not for once has anyone called her a thief. There are just some irregularities in accounting (which is a normal thing by the way) and she is being called in to simply explain. All she needs to do is prepare a robust response for these irregularities. But instead, whenever these issues are raised, her PA (one nwachukwu guy) attacks the personality of whoever raises an alarm on the irregularities and it then becomes an online shouting match between her, her supporters, apc supporters and it always ends in a mess with no questions being answered. Such is not expected from someone of her calibre. I will not forget in a hurry how they always accused Sanusi Lamido of one thing or the other back then as CBN governor. He always came up with a robust response and never resorted to accusing or insulting anyone for trying to smear his image; on several occasions when he was summoned to the NASS, he dumbfounded the legislators and made them look silly with the coherence and clarity of his responses. That is simply what I would have expected of NOI but she has always been disappointing with her responses... and then her supporters always come up with the same line of defence that she has international awards and that apc is trying to blackmail an achiever. If only she answers the little questions thrown to her, these issues wouldnt even make the news. |

This is simply a case of comparing the PDP to the military days, of course even a dumbo knows that the PDP was better. What's this write-up really all about?... We are crawling when we ought to be running, that is not to say crawling wouldn't move a body forward. |
When is dangote's refinery going to be completed and commissioned? .. That's the one I'm more interested in. |
Herrmes:I totally feel your pain and you are not alone in this; I am also personally affected by the policy because I live in london and do a lot of business with my nigerian mastercard. But while I feel like strangling someone, I take a deep breath, think about it and realise that the person I want to strangle isnt really the culprit responsible for the problem. I foresee the CBN giving in to pressure soon and devaluing the naira massively from $198 to about $300. But that may not also still solve the problem in the short term. |
Captain6:Marking of roads is VERY VERY important in societies that care about standards. Good thing about it is that proper finishing by marking is about the cheapest thing to achieve in the entire road project. Unfortunately, our society doesnt give a damn about even the most basic standards, hence to us we think it is doesnt really matter to finish the job properly. santinoj:Now this is very very commendable, Bravo!! |
Herrmes:A hard punch on the chest could sometimes be the only solution to save the life of a person having a cardiac arrest. So yes! some hard policies are necessary sometimes. You simply do not appreciate how bad things are presently. Oil prices broke the $40 threshold and fell to as low as $34/barrel sometime in the last week. Breaking that threshold put a very large strain on the naira. For example, I withdrew some cash with my GTB mastercard in London at the rate of N333 to a £1 just last weekend but when I did same yesterday, I was charged N398 to £1; never in my life have I seen such a leap. Until Nigerians start standing on long queues to get a bowl of rice to feed their families, many still wouldn't understand the dire implications of the nation presently spending more forex than it earns. Some people are even complaining of being unable to go on overseas xmas vacations ![]() |
COVERT2:I would happily climb a tree into the plane than be blown away in the sky ![]() |
bonechamberlain:Lol.. the nation is currently in a major recession as the reserves of forex we have is dwindling rapidly and we dont have enough inflow of forex due to oil price crash. If measures are not taken to curb the outflow of forex, in just a matter of months, there would be no forex to buy essential commodities such as food and the nation would be plunged into a major humanitarian crises with people standing on 2-days long queues to get a bowl of rice to feed their families. The CBN and FG is struggling to manage and prevent this situation from happening and you think they are the "most ruthless, wicked, parochial and self centered govt in Nigeria's history" all because you want to buy choice goods? I suggest you save your money and stock your barns with enough food because 'winter is coming,' in fact, winter is already here. |
Jesus Christ!... To God be the Glory that it was found No more Air France for me, strictly arik and the new medview. |
o42austino: tefund:The point is that, the dollarisation of the economy by allowing banks to accept currency deposits other than the naira, the dissadvantages and damage to the economy far far outweighs the economic benefits. There's a reason why no serious nation allows that. |
o42austino:Depositing of forex may sound as a good thing but it was abused and it led to the dollarisation of the economy. We got to a point where some schools accepted school fees in dollars only and some businesses accepted payments in dollars only. I wouldnt want to go into details of the running of elections in dollars in Nigeria. Within a naira economy, when dollars starts competing with the naira as the main currency, I'm sure I dont have to explain to you what that means to the value of the naira and the economy?... No country in the world allows that. |
Fawklicant:First of all, you are not the average man, so even though the average man wouldn't understand what is going on, I dont expect you not to understand. Diversification of the economy is obviously the only way out of this mess but it is a process which requires some good time. Obviously the last administration tried to open up agriculture but even after 5 years, how much extra could we make from that?... You would agree with me that diversifying is a pretty slow process, not something you would expect to happen miraculously in 7 months. And yeah, I'm sure you are educated so you should appreciate the deplorable situation of things vis-a-vis the crash in oil prices (at a time we survive only on oil) and the fall and fall of our forex reserves. This has nothing to do with voodoo economics, this is a common sense matter of survival. If the average man on the street will not understand, it is a shame you dont understand this too and also expect governmwnt to perform miracles. You have obviously chosen to politicise a common sense issue so I can appreciate why you feign ignorance on the state of things. |
Fawklicant:... A lot of Nigerians obviously do not know what is going on, a lot of people have absolutely no idea how close Nigeria is to a total economic collapse and the CBN and FG obviously isnt communicating maybe in order not to cause panick. Economics 101: The nation is import dependent which means there's a high forex outflow. The main source of forex inflow is oil and oil prices have crashed massively to an 11-year low (even though expenditure has increased massively). Right now the nation spends more forex (via importation) than it earns (oil export) and consequently, the stock of foreign exchange is reducing drastically. These checks by the CBN are simply to prevent Nigeria from becoming Greece or Venezuela. The CBN is struggling to prevent a situation where the foreign reserves are depleted on ebay businesses as you say, or by people going on leisure holidays abroad and then in a few months, the country wouldnt have any forex left to import food to feed its populace. This is no longer about the CBN trying to save the value of the naira, it is about the CBN desperately trying to save the nationfrom crashing and this is certainly not the time for people to be going randomly on leisure holidays. If only the CBN and the government would just communicate more properly and let the people know how bad things really are, how close the nation is to total collapse, maybe we wouldnt have people complaining of 'no funds for holidays' anymore. People would rather be more concerned about feeding. Just incase you didnt know before now, I'm sure you should now understand the picture better with my explanations above and you should now understand why the CBN is desperately trying to prevent the outflow of forex; it is to save you and I from the Greek / Venezuelan situation which is imminent in a few months if oil prices don't come up. FFK is high again on his own poo. Did he just blame Buhari for the brutal actions of the army towards the shiites?... was it Buhari that ordered the shootings?... or why is FFK just obsessed with PMB?... Is FFK also aware that barely a year ago, the Nigerian army carried out a similar raid on the shiites and killed over 30 of them including the sheikh's 3 sons?... unlike the present raid which was provoked, the raid and massacre of last year was purely unprovoked. Is FFK also implying that GEJ ordered the massacre last year?... Is FFK also saying that GEJ should have a date with the ICC for ordering thise killings? FFK is obviously still reeling from the shock and embarrassment of crossing over to PDP at the dying minute and Pdp losing the election woefully. |
TonyeBarcanista:Barca did you just say this?... and you really think the problem of power in Nigeria is an 'engineering' problem and not an 'administrative' one?.... Please dont tell me you are one of those who believe a proper president should be one who studied political science.? |
timilinda:Lol... naaa. Why do you ask? |
godoluwa:Between the last administration which didnt save and the present administration which met a virtually empty treasury 7 months ago, in all honesty and putting partisanship and sentiments aside, who do you think takes more of the blame? ![]() Even if a common vulcaniser or bus conductor on the street doesnt know this, I'm sure you are educated enough to know the answer. An import dependent country means there's a lot of forex outflow. To balance that outflow, the country's main source of forex inflow is from crude but crude prices have crashed. Implication is that there is more outflow of forex than inflow, thereby creating a scarcity of forex. With laws of demand and supply, scarcity of forex means the price will jump up. The CBN has then placed very tight restrictions on forex to preserve the little we have, that has created even more scarcity, hence the very high cost in the parallel market. The only solution to the above is an alternative source of forex inflow by diversifying the economy (agriculture and solid minerals); achieving that is unfortunately not something that can be done within 7 months, or even 3 years. So for those blaming the present administration for not diversifying in 7 months (a feat which couldnt be done by pdp in 16 years and GEJ in 5 years), it is either they are ignoramuses or just feigning ignorance for sentimental reasons. The issue is very elementary to understand for any educated person, but sentiments seems to have blocked the understanding of many. |
godoluwa:I did not blame GEJ bro...I blamed the crash in global oil prices, a situation which is beyond the control of GEJ or Bubu. However now you have mentioned it, if only the past father christmas donatus administration had saved some funds or diversified the economy, maybe there would have been foreign reserve funds for Nigeria to wedge the effect of the oil price slump like it did in 2008 (last major oil price slump). |
