You will need 600 Watts of solar panels of 18 voltage in four places

Flames and SMS are fairly affordable ranges of panels

Forty to fifty Amps of suoer, SMS or epever PWM charger controllers are best used.

Replied you earlier but I was banned by antisp.am bo.t

Hello guys,

I am looking to add solar functionality to my system by next week.

Please, wat capacity of solar panels will effortlessly charge a 200ah battery? Kindly help recommend and state the price of an affordable brand as well. I really dont mind fairly used solar panels as I am on a tight budget.

Also, kindly please recommend a good PWM charge controller and the optimal capacity it should be for my battery size and proposed solar panel capacity. I definitely will be switching to MPPT later, but I intend to use PWM for now.

Finally, I will also appreciate if all the other necessary components for this venture are listed and costed

Hi

A 600W panel of 150W x 4 pieces

Since you have a tight budget, A brand like SMS or Flames should fit your need for mentioned panels cost between 23k - 30k per piece

With a 40A - 50A PWM of Suoer, SMS or epever.

I will advise that you stay away from used panel IMHO
Stay blessed

I can't say it's bad or faulty, I was only saying my observation based on your narrative,

But from the attached picture, it appears to work fine

Should incase such scenario repeats itself, best to first check panel voltage and also check voltage at battery terminal on getting to site, should it match then. It's failing during operation and will need to be replaced.

dollarnaira:
It had bn working fine b4 now not until yesterday. Are u saying d pwm is bad or faulty or not effective?

There is a 50/50 chance the CC has had it, so basically end of its service thereby making the pulse modulation to just open and simulate a "solar panel to battery terminal connection"

In simpler terms, the panels were connected directly to the battery terminals, making the batteries to overcharge at higher voltage and causing a boiling of electrolyte.

Serious matter, I was shocked seeing the battery

But on a second note, I notice it's name plate 65Ah from battery sticker but from this angle looks like a 100Ah battery size

That should have also be a red flag

One needs to be extra careful

@Valto can this picture be reposted?

Is the charge controller PWM?

dollarnaira:
I visited a client yesterday and right from d staircase I could smell acid from batteries. I quickly ran up to check up the batteries only to find out that all 4 batteries are hot including the cables from solar panels and the bottom part of d cc was a bit hot too.
However, I disconnected one cable from d panels from d cc bc I suspected overcharging.

N.B : A freezer was connected to it during this ordeal.

Inverter is hybrid 2.4kva psw mercury.

Pls wat could b d problem?
Help pls

As said earlier here
Mtn Lumos is not it
And checking out beebee, the lithium battery is the take home I see there and it has its own attached lamps and fan and the battery storage declaration wasn't so clear

What I will suggest is a system build of your own, flexible and can be upgradable as you go.

500W inverter pure some wave, if possible -

300W panels -(150W x2)
30A PWM charge controller
Cables to match
100Ah battery
And other accessories to go.

All this will give you the rest of mind you need, you can get a local engineer to get these coupled together for you

Though we have a package like this at our company, but it comes with modified sine wave because many of them have inbuilt charger that can be used occasionally to charge in days of overcast.

But the above will charge your battery full daily on good sunny days

Note: this is a extreme budget package for those with very little to invest on solar, if you have enough then getting a better equipment than above is recommended

PlsBanMe:
Please I need genuine advice. I don't know much about solar power system. I want to get one for my self.

I need a system that can power my 32 inches television, charge my phones, power a fan, charge my laptop and light around 4 to 5 bulbs.

Some are suggesting I should buy a lumos prime solar system while some are saying beebeejump is better.

What do you guys think I should go for?

I need something to depend on as the transformer serving my area has recently packed up. I know a system that will operate washing machine or fridge is going to be expensive, so I am now even thinking about that one now.

Experiment with the panels in series first and note down their VoC

This might make it lower than 75V if lucky if not parallel is the only way out

I don't have a confident experience with solar freezer but I am sure many user here can give their experience and input

rajo4real:
Please does anyone has any experience using solar freezers?

I have sorted most of my essential power needs but i need a freezer that can work on a low budget off-grid.
Also note, i don't intend to upgrade my existing setup because all my lightings and some appliances runs on DC.

I only want to run a good solar freezer(for madam) during the afternoon.

There is no need to sink a separate rod for the inverter, the one in Db would do, as long as it pass the earth test

And if need be for a new rod, then it's better to connect them together to have equal-potential

Hope this is clear
BetaTechnicians:
With respect to the above, do you then sink new earth rods just for the inverter? And would the earth rod stand alone or be linked/connected to other earth rods in same premises?

Yes, it can as long as you have all your factors checked to see the surge and AC capacity will fit the inverter

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 4:22pm On Apr 10, 2021
So far so good, neither of our installed Growatt hybrid have had issues

The ways to avoid problem is to look at the installation from a different POV,
Let's say power comes in and goes out.

The grid should say feed your inverter L-N directly for charging and bypass and the inverter output L-N feeds the loads .. Both should never at least ideally converge.

In other terms Neutral link bar is not to be shared between Grid and Inverter.

A lot of things can go wrong in the future.

Not a problem, per say if all installation guidelines are followed

jamesid29:
Thanks alot for the input boss. I've been looking at reviews for growatt after your recommendation and it really seems to be a solid next step.

If you can spare a few more minutes of your time, I would still like to ask a few more questions boss.

Based on the fact that growatt is mostly transformer less, which isn't much of a problem in developed countries due to their strict compliance with electrical wiring codes, but in a place like Nigeria where wiring is mostly done poorly and good earthing is almost non existent,, is going transformer less not going to be a problem down the stretch
and how does one compensate for such issues?
Or from your experience, its really not a problem?

Thanks alot for your time.

Good evening,

Your definition of pocket friendly might be different from mine but for a two years warranty covered inverter with a good review and bang for money, you should consider the growatt inverter

About a standalone LVD
Victron Bp is a good choice to give a try - Victron battery protect

You don't need other Victron components to use it.... That's the good news about it.

jamesid29:
Which inverters with LCD that are pocket friendly do you recommend boss. Also can you recommend standalone LVD's that can be connected to already installed systems.... Thanks alot boss
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 7:05am On Apr 05, 2021
As said here by mctfopt

8 batteries on the minimum, with a good hybrid inverter 5KVA or a very good premium Inverter if the pocket allows because you will need to factor idle and working consumption of the inverter as that can leech away the energy stored.

And since grid isn't always as expected sometimes, a future plan for solar should be considered and if I guess from your text, its a 24/7 running scenario.

An inverter with LVD is better consider so in case grid fails and the system is working the inverter cuts off at say 50% DOD .... Just to ensure you get yourself out of trouble.

Cheers

solasola:
Gurus,I need your input.
A system that will carry 4 250w freezers with I fridge of 150w and TV 100w for 6hours per day.
mctfopt:
Just like the last person mentioned you will need a good high capacity inverter from 5kw and up to make this happen. In addition, you may also need a delay timer that is staggered so that these 5 freezers do not start at the SAME time. My 110w and 130w fridge during starting can surge up to above 1.3kw. Or if they must start at the same time, you need an inverter with high surge capacity tolerance.

About battery requirement, you will need at least 8 nos of 12v 200ah battery. I'll encourage you to go the solar route too and only run these five refrigerators during the sunny period (10am to 3pm) to ensure the batteries are not too depleted which may affect their number of cycles (lifespan).
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 8:22am On Apr 03, 2021
If you go ahead to do this.

You will lose power

300W will work like 250W

Hopefully the 250W is in good condition else total power may be little than expected.

Better get a separate CC as each works independently.

Happy Holidays everyone

Integratedpower:
Please can I join 250 watts*2 solar panel with 300watts * 2, if yes how can I connect them in series and parralell?
Thanks
