this isn’t true.

Boromeo in Onitsha, iyi enu at ogidi, anambra hospital at Awka, teaching hospital at Nnewi, missionary hospital at waterfront etc to mention a few hospital in anambra have always been functional.

People journeying to enugu for medical assistance do that for personal reasons and/or specialist reason I.e the brain surgery hospital in enugu.

Now anambra has a quantum number of hospital springing up..
Oga please learn to read.

Truth is that you people who are not in the health sector will always count small private hospitals with total bed capacity of 50 as a "Hospital" that should be serving a city of 1 million people. Just accident involving one Luxurious bus alone with 70 passengers, and there is no bed space to treat the injured in the entire city. Not to mention that specialized orthopedic equipment and qualified surgeons are needed to align the bones back in place.

I said ONITSHA is the ONLY city of its size in Nigeria (approx. 1 million residents) without a public hospital. Go and check it for yourself! There is NO city in Nigeria between 750,000 - 1 million without a Teaching Hospital or Federal medical center. Cities as Aba, Enugu,Abakaliki, Owerri,Umuahia, Awka, Ibadan, Asaba,Benin city, Kano,Kaduna, Bauchi,Jos, Makurdi,Maiduguri, Minna, Ilorin,Port harcourt, Akure, Uyo, not to mention Lagos and Abuja. All these cities have a Federal Medical Center or a Teaching Hospital to cater for the health of citizens.

You started naming private hospitals such as Borromeo, Iyi-enu, Toronto hospital, Menax hospital and even the hospitals as far away as Nnewi and Awka. If your child suddenly has severe asthmatic attack in the night, you will leave all the hospitals in Onitsha and drive to Awka and Nnewi to get help abi?

Keep deceiving yourself.

I just thank Obiano that he is finally doing something about quality healthcare in Onitsha. Most of you are too emotionally blinded to see that if two keke napep had accident with fracture of 10 people in Onitsha, there were not adequate orthopedic bed space in Onitsha to handle their treatment competently. yet, Aba that you will like to laugh at has that capacity at Abia State University Teaching Hospital deliberately sited in the city to help provide expert care for the residents.

This is like music to my ears.

There is NO WAY to bring sanity to Onitsha without some type of enforcement and punishment in the way of arrest, impounding of goods and properties and heavy fines dished out to offenders. Onitsha is not a city you will change anything via appeal.
Anambra State Government should build markets and Plazas like the picture below and collect Yearly rent.
That will not only increase the internal revenue profile of the state, but help displaced street traders to find affordable shops to start a business.

If Buhari had any integrity at all as most Nigerians erroneously thought, he would have sacked Lawal, He wouold have sacked the NNPC GMD, He would have sacked the former DSS boss Daura and investigated how he got N2 billion naira.

But Buhari is a big SCAM that Nigerians have failed to recover from.

For me what makes Obiano the greatest Governor ever in Anambra is finally giving Onitsha a modern Referral hospital.
Onitsha is the ONLY city of its size in Nigeria without a modern tertiary hospital. Even Aba that we will love to mock has a fully functional Teaching Hospital serving residents of Aba.

In the past, people in Onitsha had to travel to Enugu or Asaba to get medical treatment from a public hospital. This was beyond shameful, but our people just didn't care about decent well equipped Medical Center of Excellence in Onitsha until they became sick or got injured in an accident. Many times, transferring them to Enugu meant that no family member could visit them and so many other logistic problems.

The present effort to upgrade Onitsha Specialist Hospital into a modern center of excellence is the greatest legacy of Obiano.

I personally know thousands of people who would have been alive today if we had a properly equipped and modern hospital serving Onitsha. But all the former Governors simply pretended it was not an issue until Obiano came. Posterity will be kind to Obiano for giving Onitsha a truly modern public hospital.

This is a former major erosion site which nature itself was able to arrest.

I fear people of this generation who don't care about the environment and the importance of tree planting and not blocking natural waterways to try and build in lands like this. They will re-ignite the erosion and it will not just ultimately swallow their house, it will also severe the road and many more areas around. The money to stop such erosion will be clearly beyond the means of the government. That is why i would advocate that we leave sites like this alone because we don't have the culture to mitigate erosion and we lack capacity to handle it if it starts.

A pan Igbo conference is long overdue. We have to settle this identity crisis issue once and for all. The deniers have never been forced to publicly decide who they are and that's why this games have been played for decades.

Being Igbo when it serves your interest and denying Igbo when it doesn't. Our generation has to put a full stop to that nonsense unless it will fester on for centuries.
If you call it a pan-igbo conference, it means that those there are Ignos but denying their identity

Some home owners are already developing their own plots at Obinwanne estate, New Town, Awka.
The ever rising cost of land is something that might stifle development of residential buildings in Igboland

On the Obiano question.
The governor is doing very well. Dualizing township roads in already built up and congested Onitsha and Nnewi might to out as mission impossible due to the level of demolitions and compensation required.
He could introduce certain roads as One-way roads. Then put functional traffic lights to guide traffic orderly. OCHA brigade should always stay at those strategic junctions and apprehend traffic offenders and impose heavy fines.

Most importantly, Obiano must Dualize the Onitsha -"33"- Umuleri road A.K.A (Nkisi road). Even if it's a federal road. That road holds the key to unlocking new areas that will enable Onitsha become a mega-city as well as open up the coastline shores of Anambra for development of world class business districts, hotels and malls. Unless that road is finalized to guarantee very smooth flow of traffic, no reasonable development will occur along that axis where Anambra still has vast land to build world class city very close to Onitsha

Anambra also needs to place more emphasis on completing the ORIENT PETROLEUM REFINERY than the silly airport project. A very small refinery can be completed as the first phase while capacity is gradually added.

I have one of them as friends. A female. She was born and raised in Onitsha, the mum is from Ngor Okpala Imo state, even with a surname like "Nwaegbunam", she still insists she is Etche and not Igbo. She probably expects us to pamper and pet her to be Igbo, but we simply told her she isn't Igbo and that she and her people are impostors. Now she goes about talking about how Igbos are unwelcoming. Inukwanum!

The other one, a guy is from Ogume( Ndokwa Anioma) , with a typical Igbo name "Igwe". Yet insists he is "Delta" and not Igbo , always making disparaging remarks about Igbos. He went to main market Onitsha to buy things, and was swindled by the traders who capitalized on his naivety to sell inferior things to him at exorbitant prices, then he comes back cursing "Ibos", telling us how "Ibos" are greedy. How do you ever accept someone like this as a fellow Igbo tomorrow? Everyone in my hostel then in school understood Ogume and Ndokwa people are not Igbos, because of the guys behavior.
If tomorrow any of us meet someone from Ogume, do you think we would extend hands of Igbo brotherhood to them? Ofcourse answer is No. The fear of being rejected would make us treat them as non Igbo until proven otherwise. And then, they run around talking about why and how we are not accepting their hands of brotherhood.
It's a vicious cycle started by them. See how it goes.

1.An Igboid denies his Igbo identity and humiliates an innocent Igbo brother in the process.

2 The innocent Igbo brother gets hurt, recovers and grows a defensive mechanism to prevent such rejection in the future. Because let's face it, no one likes rejection. Hence, the Igbo man is now exposed to Igboid resentment

3. The next time the exposed Igbo meets an innocent Igboid person, he shows no iota of brotherly love for him, instead he shows resentment, and even when the Igboid tries to reach out to him, the Igbo would think he is only being fake, and that it is a matter of time, before he denies him again.

4. The rejected Igboid Now grows resentment and loathe towards the Igbo. He is now exposed to Igbo
resentment and he goes on to infect another innocent Igbo man with this Igbo resentment.
And the cycle continues.

My own is that I will never pamper, woo or beg anyone to be Igbo.
If you say you are not Igbo, I will keep reminding you that you are not Igbo and that you are an impostor for bearing Igbo names, any time I get the chance .

As long as Igboids still habour Igbo resenting people in their midst, more and more innocent Igbos would be exposed to such Igbo resentment, and in return, would grow a strong resentment for innocent Igboids they meet in the future.

Until Igboids stop being Igbo resenting, the vicious cycle to me, will never end, no matter how some try to wish it away, and both sides of the divide would continue to pay for it.
All i will say is don't think the only people who will deny their Igboness are Ikwerres, Aniomas or Igbos at the border of Igboland.

There was a time when it was the fashionable thing to deny that you are not Igbo or you don't speak it.

Many Aniomas and Ikwerres are good Igbos as many more like Oliseh may be misguided or even evil. But be careful when you try to label everyone because you lump the innocent and guilty in the same basket. What you have done then would be to tell those professing their Igbo origin from those places that you'd rather believe those that deny it than believe them.

Not everyone from SE love Igboland. Some of them hate other Igbo people from other SE states with a passion that will surprise you. Timothy Mcveigh was born white in America. he voluntarily enlisted in the army to help protect Americans. The same person turned around and killed so many Americans without remorse. Don't be too quick to think that because some was born in SE, he is more loyal to Igbo cause than someone born in Anioma or Ikwerre. There are many Igbos from my village here in USA that deny everything about their culture They are even glad their children cannot understand a word of Igbo language. In time, they will see the harm they are doing. But right now, they believe not speaking Igbo to their children makes them "superior" to other children.

But Dr Maduka just completed a world class medical center and he is gradually furnishing it to international standard.

Our people are extremists. Once you harp on a topic that tickles their fancy, they want EVERYTHING to become that. Believe me, I'm a nurse in the United States and i do know the importance of a modern and equipped medical center. But we lack EVERYTHING that we can hardly just focus on just one thing alone. It has to be a little of everything to address the massive need for every type of infrastructure that we desperately lack.

Don't worry, this craze about wanting every structure in Igboland to be hospital will soon pass.
Then someone will talk about schools, and again we will want all the hospitals converted into schools. Then someone will talk about factories, and we will want every residential flat converted into a factory.

Truth is that everything is important but with moderation. Every building cannot be a hotel or hospital or church depending on what we like to promote.

What causes this type of traffic is when people insist on turning at the wrong junctions or when they block on coming traffic.

The immediate solution is to purchase a concrete road divider and divide the troublesome stretch of road as plans for expansion are being made.

With the road dividers, the traffic will still be slow at rush hour, but it will be moving smoothly without standing on one spot for hours.

The former Governor of Abia State and APC Chieftain, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has finally revealed the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu today after meeting the former head of state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

He said Nnamdi Kanu is safe in London that  people shouldn't be worried about him.

He claimed that Kanu fled to the United Kingdom during the time the military were looking for him.

Kalu disclosed this in an interview with newsmen today.

According to him,

“Nnamdi Kanu is where I told you he is, he is in London. He is safe”.

Kalu explained that he visited IBB to canvass support for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Kalu explained that his campaign for President Buhari had nothing to do with the South-East getting the presidency in 2023 or his perceived presidential ambition.

On the crises over the emergence of candidates at the forthcoming primary election nationwide, Kalu said conflict of interests were normal in politics.

“The crisis is part of political development, if there is no crisis there will not be political development. Crisis is what makes political development there must be crisis and there must be solution”.

The former Governor and his entourage arrived at Babangida’s Hilltop residence Tuesday afternoon in three black Toyota SUVs and two Hillux Vans.

Kalu was ushered into the guest room, where he held a 2-hour closed-door meeting with IBB.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must immediately go to court and challenge the illegal INEC order to ban the phones of voters.

To begin with, personal cell phones are a fundamental right of every citizen. Just as their right to vote. Therefore, one's right to vote should not be used as an excuse to deny anybody of their right to use a phone.

The question is : WHY IS INEC AFRAID OF VOTERS PHONES?

We know in the past, voters have been able to take pictures of INEC officials receiving bribes at the polling stations. Voters have been able to take pictures of publicly displayed result sheets of who won in their polling units. These things which should be commended has irked INEC because their nefarious agenda to falsify results are usually exposed by these pictures.

We know the present INEC chairman is a card carrying member of APC. We also know that as a result, INEC is not an unbiased umpire. INEC is determined to rig the ruling party into power.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should therefore immediately challenge illegal pronouncements by INEC in court.
To fold your hands while INEC is plotting how to rig elections then cry later after they falsify all electoral results does not make sense. This is the time to stand and fight illegal orders from INEC.

Meanwhile, Nigerians should DISREGARD the illegal attempt to deprive them of their cell phones no matter the excuses given

Nigeria's external debt went from $360,260,000 in 1985 to $1,093,661,000 in 1993...

Obasanjo paid 1/3 rd of the debt, the remainfer was forgiven by the G7

We will continue to accumulate debts until we take our economy off oil...which is my ultimate point.

Sorry you missed it.

I am not into your PDP and APC fight.

ADDENDUM

According to Omoleye, and Ezeonu (2006), Nigeria is the largest debtor nation in the Sub-Saharan Africa. The genesis of Nigeria’s external debt can be traced to 1958 when 28 million US dollars was contracted from the World Bank for railway construction. Between 1958 and 1977, the need for external debt was on the low side. However, due to the fall in oil prices in 1978 which exerted a negative influence on government finances, it became necessary to borrow to correct balance of payment difficulties and finance projects. The firstmajor borrowing of 1billion US dollars referred to as Jumbo loan was contracted from the international capital market (ICM) in 1978 increasing the total to 2.2 billion U.S dollars (Adesola, 2009).

The rate of borrowing increased thereafter with the entry of the state government into external loan contractual obligation. According to the Debt Management Office (DMO), Nigeria’s external debt outstanding stood at N17.3 billion. In order to solve the problem, several external debt-financing options were adopted under the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) in 1986. Since the introduction of this programme, Nigerians have been plunged into one hardship after another ranging from the devaluation of the naira through Second Tie Foreign Exchange Market (SFEM) now Foreign Exchange Market (FEM) to the rising prices of commodities, inflation etc. (Ayadi, 2008). The objective of this paper is to review Nigeria’s external debt and the burden it imposes, and use the various indicators and prevailing global economic circumstances to justify the need for substantial debt relief for the country.

The increasing fiscal deficits driven by the higher level of external debt servicing is a major threat to growth of the nation. The resultant effect of large accumulation of debt exposes the nation to high debt burden. Nigeria is about the richest on the continent of Africa, yet due to the numerous macro-economic problems, such as inflation, unemployment, sole dependency on crude oil as a major source of revenue, corruption and mounting external debt and debt service payment, majority of her citizen fall below the poverty line.

Prior to the $18 billion debt cancellation granted to Nigeria in 2005 by the Paris Club, the country had external debt of close to $40 billion with over $30 billion of the amount being owed to Paris Club alone (Semenitari, 2005). The history of Nigeria’s huge debts can hardly be separated from its decades of misrule and the continued recklessness of its rulers. Nigeria’s debt stock in 1971 was $1 billion (Semenitari, 2005). By 1991, it had risen to $33.4 billion, and rather than decrease, it has been on the increase, particularly with the insurmountable regime of debt servicing and the insatiable desire of political leaders to obtain loans for the execution of dubious projects (Semenitari, 2005).

Before the debt cancellation deal, Nigeria was to pay a whopping sum of $4.9 billion every year on debt servicing (Aluko and Arowolo, 2010). It would have been impossible to achieve exchange rate stability or any meaningful growth under such indebtedness. The effect of the Paris Club debt cancellation was immediately observed in the sequential reduction of the exchange rate of Nigeria vis-à-vis the Dollar from 130.6 Naira in 2005 to 128.2 Naira in 2006, and then 120.9 in 2007 (CBN, 2009). Although the growth rate of the economy has been inconsistent in the post-debt relief period as it plunged from 6.5% in 2005 to 6% in 2006 and then increased to 6.5% in 2007 (CBN, 2008), it could have been worse if the debt had not been cancelled However, the benefits of the debt cancellation, which was expected to manifest after couple of years, was wiped up in 2009 by the global financial and economic crisis, which was precipitated in August 2007 by the collapse of the sub-prime lending market in the United States. The effect of the crisis on Nigeria’s exchange rate was phenomenal as the Naira exchange rate vis-à-vis the Dollar rose astronomically from about N120/$ in the last quarter of 2007 to more than N150/$ (about 25% increase) in the third quarter of 2009 (CBN, 2009). This is attributable to the sharp drop in foreign earnings of Nigeria as a result of the persistent fall of crude oil price, which plunged from an all-time high of US$147 per barrel in July 2007 to a low of US$45 per barrel in December 2008 (CBN, 2008)

Available statistics show that the external debt stock of Nigeria has been on the increase after the debt cancellation in 2005. The country’s external debt outstanding increased from $3,545 million in 2006 to $3,654 million in 2007, and then to $3,720 million and $3,947 in 2008 and 2009 respectively (CBN, 2009). Therefore, the study seeks to thoroughly and empirically investigate the consequential effect of Nigeria’s external debt on her economy for us to appreciate the need to avoid being back in the group of highly indebted nations..

Shameless liar!

Now, your theory is that the USA recession of 2008 that is responsible for our reckless rate of borrowing.

I have said it that Nigeria had so many leaders who loved and cared for Nigeria genuinely. They worked hard for debt forgiveness and restrained themselves from borrowing wildly so that Nigeria will not collapse financially.

Buhari does not love Nigeria. He is bent on making Nigeria insolvent by the time he is removed from office. By raising the foreign debt to $50 - $60 billion dollars, when oil price is still above $70 dollars is beyond criminal.

The question is Who will pay for all these debts being piled up by Buhari on largely non-existent projects?

Nwanne God bless you, Pita Obi was clueless but its Obiano's cluelessnes is beyond redemption, i dont know if its because he drinks alot or he is too clannish to consider some projects beneficial to others not his.
Anambra are busy buying every available space at Asaba, every weekend Onitsha business community will relocate to Asaba to unwind thereby enriching the economy of the state. Do you know how much Anambra State have lost to Delta State in terms of tourism and real estate? Obiano is not futuristic like Rochas, Obiano is too petty believe me.

Kindly look at the GoogleMap below and see where paradise is wasting just because some people chose noisemaking over proactive leadership. If Obiano and co were to be futuristic, this Island would have been connected with a bridge and watch how fast it will develop. If ANSG were to construct one bridge to connect this island and build a state polythecnic there, the rate property will appreciate there will not be qunatified, but telling arrogant people what to do is like flogging a dead Horse. Let keep calm until this clueless government is over.

The island is bigger than Awada, the bridge that will open it up is less than 2 kilometers. There are more than 5 River Beaches that can be developed to a robust tourist attraction.
What you have said will make sense ONLY on one condition.

1. THEY WILL PLAN THE AREA AND RESTRICT DEVELOPMENT TO ONLY HOTELS AND BUSINESS DISTRICTS LIKE EKO-ATLANTIC PROJECT.

If that vital area is opened up for residential houses, it will be better to leave it as the arable farmland it is now. Let the residential houses be built in Oba, Obosi or Nkwelle.

Another thing that projects the beauty of Enugu City is the tarring of inner roads. Just imagine how ugly it would have looked if the inner roads weren’t tarred.

I have asked this question before and I will ask again:

How come Enugu was able to afford to tar most of their inner streets roads when other south east states don’t do the same?
Using the housing estates model to develop is actually a good thing. But Planting trees and flowers must be taken seriously in Nigeria. Recently, Nigerian estates look like Agadez where no single plan is found and everything is just concrete and sand.

A culture of planting flowers and trees must be incorporated into our culture. Even currently built up areas must be impressed upon to plant trees and flowers. It makes all the difference between Nigerian estates that look terrible and unhabitable to even Ghanaian estates that look clean and inviting. See pictures below.

2nd picture Ghana

Honestly after looking at these beautiful pictures, I have understood how extremely important City planning is. This used to be a Lower ranked issue for me but it’s now one of the top issues we should bring to the attention of our governors.

No matter how beautiful the houses are, if the city is not well planned, it ends up diminishing the beauty.
Ofcourse, the ONLY reason an average American town looks better than equivalent European city is that they took time to plan every city, then plant LOTS of trees and flowers.

The reason new owerri looks better than regular Owerri town is that the entire area was well planned.

The reason Enugu looks better and more habitable than other Equivalent sized cities in the SE is that it is well planned while the others aren't

Infact, if you looked at just buildings, other SE states will totally defeat Enugu. But since these beautiful houses are in largely unplanned or poorly planned estates, even basic building in well planned estates appear a lot better!

Enugu got a good headstart regarding her masterplan,
Enugu can carve a nitch for herself, she got the attitude of metamorphosing into Silicon Valley East of the niger, she equally has the posture of becoming a beehive for fun seeking Tourists to have pleasurable unforgettable moments , she could become a prime destination for medi-tourism.

Nefgik
Enugu didn't have a headstart that other cities could not achieve. The problem with SE is poor visionary leaders over a long time.

Enugu is a clear indicator of how quality and visionary leadership evaporated from the Southeast.

Enugu was planned even when the funds to build the new city were not available. Yet, they mapped out areas for the city. Today, the average Igbo governor cannot even have a master plan they will follow for a village talkmore a state.

If we had leaders today who mapped out territories of how the master plan of the city / state should be and they maintained it, even when they didn't immediately have the money to build the master plan, we will get there. Unfortunately, we do not have such people who plan for an organized future. How increasingly planless SE cities have become is a testimony to how plan-lessness our SE leaders have become.

I will give some credit to Dave Umahi, Sullivan Chime and Obiano to some degree for taking steps to pull down illegal structures distorting the master plan of their cities. Such practice MUST continue until our people learn the virtue of building in an organized way to stop the rise of slums in our inner cities.

Even in Enugu today, the planlessness of the present generation of leaders can be increasingly noticed. For instance, Goshen estates blocked a key access road into Independence layout phase 2 with their estate gate and forced everybody to drive around their gates to continue beyond Goshen estate to access buildings further in Phase 2 Independence layout. Yet, nobody has said anything about that gate. If you compare the rate of planlessness in Independence layout Phase II that later day Igbo leaders are supervising to the clearly well planned layout of Independence layout Phase I planned in the 1960s, you will understand this drift in visionary leaders.
