Okay that's good news. Sugar can make a child hyper active also when I give my 2 year old juice with red color (not sure what chemical is in it) he practically swings from the chandelier. Go with your gut. I have depended on my instinct a lot and for the most part it has never failed me.

5 years of marriage and four kids is a big deal. She needs to deal with it now. Not tomorrow. She does not need to be nice either. Bottom line though is that when she finally gives him the chance to talk she should listen to what he has to say. That's the only way that they can avoid similar mistakes. It is possible that he never did this before

I actually forgot about that thread but when I read what I posted there it makes me cringe because I know of someone who is rumoured to have locked their child in a room and let him die that is why I said what I said there. I do not know if the child was mentally retarded or autistic but there was something mentally or neurologically wrong with the child. Imagine how many more children that happened to. I also know of a medical doctor here in the US (a nigerian) whose child did not talk until about 7 years of age and she was actually hiding it. She was actually ashamed. A medical doctor o and the child just had a delay in speech.

There is nothing like autismhuhhuhhuhhuh So all the autistic children in Nigeria have "oyibo" blood. I just pray for these children because it is this kind of thinking that makes these demon casting churches that abuse and kill children thrive in Nigeria
Family › Re: My Husband Won't Accept Our Son's Disability by Outstrip(f): 12:53am On Sep 12, 2009
I am sorry but the man is an ASS. How can you call your own son stupid when it is clear that the child is suffering. A 4 year old child understands stupid and understands when someone does not love them. Don't have time to feel sorry for your husband. He is making that child's life a living hell. Focus on your child and get any help or assistance you can get. He can actually live a normal life if your husbands mental and emotional abuse does not do him in. This is how people use culture to excuse their wickedness.

Amebo I have never seen a human being that enjoys being known as the ignorant one. You definitely stand out. Hopefully the poster will take the advice and go see a specialist like sensible people here have advised. Even if he is diagnosed with ADHD he most likely will not need medication and even if it is autism then the child at least has a chance to get help as quickly as possible.

Not sure. My sister does them all the time and I was tempted to do it. I was with her for 4 days and she still had them on when I left. I can ask her and let you know.

Fashion › Re: What's The Difference Between Miss Earth, Miss World And Miss Universe? by Outstrip(f): 3:30am On Sep 11, 2009
Ms Earth is actually just the planet earth. It does not include Mercury, mars, jupiter and saturn. Since they said that saturn is no longer a planet it is now just the 8 planets in the Ms Earth pageant. I am not sure how the other pageants are chosen though.

I will talk to the poster about this offline. As for those saying that there are no lead in toys have no idea what they are talking about. Millions of toys were recalled in the US last year because of this issue. The fact is that the child is at a critical age and rather than look at the symptoms everyone simply wants to write it of as he being a stubborn child.

@  the person who took the time to go look at my profile and wishes that my breasts were filled with water and yet does not have time to think about me I suggest you pray hard so that you too will be as blessed and not sit on nairaland and study another woman's breasts. okpo

First of all I do not have a green card and secondly you are so beyond irresponsible it is pathetic. To jump to the conclusion that this is as a result of a lack of parenting is stupid. Yes I said stupid. Would a mother really come on here to ask why her child is stubborn? Use your head. You are just a classic case of the very many things I dislike about people. "You already have the tools", "whoop his ass", blah blah blah. I am not in the mood for your type today and I certainly do not want to divert this thread.

LadyT:
Oh please why take him to a doctor he is not mad people just a grip we have the tools to train our own children.  He is just a naughty boy.  You need to spend a lot of time with him and give him punishments. Like making him stand in a corner for a long time when he does something he should not do.

You should STILL SMACK HIM if after many warnings he does not listen but maybe change the smacking into punishments like standing on one leg and finger for 20mins or kneeling down and raising his hands.

You make sure you explain to him why he is being punished and that you love him very much you just want him to grow up and be a good person.  Everyday when you take him to school you tell him how to behave and you commend his good behaviour and let him see how happy you are when he does something good.  Buy books and toys and sit down and read with him and play with him.  Do activities together where he will have to concentrate even if its for short periods of time.

Make sure he has a daily programme he eats at certains times and goes to bed when you say even if he refuses to sleep you shut the door and turn out the light.

And his diet please cut out all sweets and sugary drinks these should only be treats.

He is not a monster he just has a strong personality that needs to be tamed.  You gave birth to him and by Gods grace you will train him dont fear!
LadyT your response to the serious issue is just typically Nigerian. You need to read between the lines here. She said her child is behaving "somehow". A mother's instinct is usually right. He is hitting people and his classmates are scared of him. He is putting everything in his mouth and she has a hard time getting him to focus. Please do not deprive this child from getting the early intervention he needs. You just ignored the serious issues and focused on the bad behavior. I don't even know what to say to you. Would you sit back and keep beating your child when the child shows this sort of behavior. You will not. It is always easier to say spank the child than do the difficult work of finding the problem and working to solve it.

Talk to your wife. You can help in laws but not at the cost of happiness in your marriage
Family › Re: What Should I Send To My Husband's Parents Back Home? by Outstrip(f): 6:54pm On Sep 10, 2009
I did a clock for my mom and each hour had a picture of her grand children. I ordered the clock online for $30.00 but I found a similar clock at walmart for 14.99 the other day. It is not expensive but grand mother's appreciate things like that. I also like the idea of a Bible for the father in law if he is the type that reads the bible. My dad has the Bible on DVD and he has it on most of the time. It is broken down by chapter so you can actually pick what chapter and book you want to listen to.
My mom also has an electric picture frame. She gets the grand kids pictures off face book and downloads it into her picture frame. There are many options but like chaircover said do not do too much until you understand them well.

STOP HITTING THAT BABY. YOU ARE MAKING IT WORSE. I do not want to alarm you but make an appointment to see a behavioral specialist ASAP. Stop him from putting things in his mouth by giving him something else to chew on. This is important because children who do this usually end up with high levels of lead which we all know can lead to brain damage. You can buy chew tubes on this website www.adaptivechild.com. Use this link directly to get to chew tubes http://www.especialneeds.com/search.php?mode=search&page=1 . There are two things you said in your post that makes me feel that your son might have some sensory issues. The need to put things in his mouth and laughing when there does not seem to be any problems.

Correct you child with positive reinforcement.
See a behavioral specialist (the wait time for this can be as long as a year though. Sad but true)
DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR CHILD

God bless and please update us on him.
Politics › Re: Rep Slaps Security Man At National Assembly by Outstrip(f): 5:11pm On Sep 10, 2009
The Igwe guy is an idiot. He has the nerve to say he was embarrassed at the behavior of the security officers when he just behaved like a wild animal let loose from a zoo. I think on my next visit to Nigeria I will take a job for one day as a security officer just so I can get the chance to use my taser on a fool like this. This is how they go about oppressing people and think it makes them look big. It only shows how ignorant they are. I still remember that Senator from Georgia that slapped a security guard and she did not get off without public ridicule. This dunce needs to apologize publicly to that security guard.
