Alright. So I think what I'm going to do is start you off with short series (13 episodes max) that are pretty newcomer-friendly and then we'll progress to 25 episode shows.
Also throw in a movie every now and then.

So start off with Violet Evergarden
My Gs Thanks and you too @Baddestguyp. 👍

Born2Freak:
What is this one saying?

You went to watch Barbie in the cinema and you are complaining about return-on-investment from spending money at the cinemas?

You went to watch a childish film and expected to be satisfied as an adult?

People like me watch only big budget or strong plot movies att the cinema. That way, you will enjoy at least 65 to 70 percent of the movies you pay to watch at the cinemas.

For instance, these are the movies I have enjoyed this year at the cinemas

-John Wick 4
-Across the spiderverse
-Fast and furious X
-Guardians of the Galaxy 3
-Creed 3
-Mario

That is a movie a month this year. And I am yet to see Mission Impossible and Oppenheimer. I also enjoyed the Transformers movie this year.

Bro, make movie choices wisely
My complaint didn't start today with Barbie so rest. It was only ATSV and GOTG3 i truly enjoyed from your list you put there , that i saw. Stayed away from John Wick 4 because i was already bored with Part 3, and seeing it on VOD, i was glad I didn't go see it, Fast and Furious X was medicore at best, Creed 3 was just there too and did i hear you say you enjoyed Transformers?? Then we are clearly on different paths with the way we view movies. You might think going to the movie is some show of class and a chance to foment those who don't go whilst i actually care about the art and i don't just bend over for any movie.

Baddestguyp:
it's late July and I haven't seen a single movie yet in the Cinema in 2023...
I might hold this record to the end of the year at this rate...

Only movies I've felt really compelled to see in a cinema this year are Avatar 2 and Oppenheimer...
So far I haven't for both
Maan. The Barbie hype is real. I went fully clothed to see "Opphemhemier" but it seemed like i was the only one interested in it, no one seems interested in sitting through a 3hrs flick about a bomb and war that ended ages ago 😭😭. The Nigerian education system is even the worst culprit, Gen z might not actually care about WWII.

So i just joined the Barbie queue and i had funds and time for only one of the 2 this weekend. I don't think i have it in me to go back, DUNE 2 was another one i was waiting for, but it seems WB are about to shift that to next year. So it might be au revoir in that regards for a while.

Nothing is permanent. No market stays bullish forever. There's always highs and lows in Hollywood, or any other venture. A decade ago, 2009 and 2010, off the top of my head, had similar issues. And then they got their mojo back in 2011 and now they've dipped again.

Also funny how the dip seems to follow economic turmoil. The stock market crash of 2008 and now the economic impact from COVID.
Mann. This dip in form is unprecedented!. I have never seen anything quite like it. The COVID pandemic can't be the reason anymore as enough time has passed for things to normalise. I'd be playing russian roulette with my time, money and data just to get through a good movie, and I'm losing 7 out of 10 times!

Anyways, this is the perfect for you to get into ANIME!!!
I saw "Naruto" religiously back in my UNI days. I'd be on Fz series, sponging for new episodes at 3:30am on Thursdays back then. But i could never really crack serialised Anime save but a few like AOT since then, seems too tedious, that's why i praise you and Baddestguyp, i don't know how you guys do it. But with Hollywood on a downward spiral, i might have to look that way.

Is it me or has the ROI of going to the cinema to see a flick has diminished and at an all time low?. I swear, I have taken more L's than actual W alone 😭. I'm this close to just giving up on the whole thing and keep sailing full time like my fellow brothers in arms. Or maybe i am expecting too much? because movies on the big screen used to hit like crack and some were so good that will even warrant a 2nd trip. But now,it seems like these studios actually do not care about making proper flicks, as evident on the current row between them and the actors and writers whilst sitting on billions of dollars of capital. It makes no sense. They will rather employ agendist airheads that are so woke that they are battling more than 10 agendas pandering to nonsensical artsy BS that have no place in proper movies. That's why they are losing money at the BO and i fear that this nonsense will continue for the foreseeable future.

Maann...I have only 3 true guilty pleasures i truly indulge in with reckless abandon. Music, Movies and football... Music is already failing, the Saudi money bag seems like it will ruin football in the coming years, so I don't even know where to turn to if movies fail as well 😭😭

Barbie (2023)

"A movie about a doll, that almost became dull itself".

As a non ardent follower of the "Barbie" lore before now, this piqued my interest solely because of who was making it.

The first half of the movie was a good satire tone, set in Barbie-land with Barbie rules and Barbie-triarchy in full force, and it was good, with eye popping colours and pink props to match. Then the 2nd half just cascaded into an unnecessary gender commentary that would have seemed fresh some 3 years ago that will actually make cis men want to turn away from it.

The cast totally shines tho, and it such a shame that being such a great cast, they could have gotten much more out of them. Margot Robbie is the star of the show, ever since her roles in "The Wolf of Wall Street" (2013) and as Harley Quinn, she has totally embodied the Bimbo role to perfection, and her casting here might be most accurate type cast in the history of cinema, I can't think of someone else nailing this role other than her, she's was totally in a natural niche. Ryan Gosling shines too and America Ferrara also delivered with little screen time.

I have always respected Greta Gerwig's craft, but i have questioned her creative choice of this from the get go. In her short filmography, she has been able to make "feminist rebellion" movies that are heavily masked and told in the most creative way possible that will make even the most hardened "far right man", stand in the picket line for women's rights. But this was screaming "topple the patriarchy" with every intent. She chose her real life partner,Noah Baumbach, as a writing partner for this, and on paper i was excited about this, but seeing this, it was clearly evident this was not their finest writing, and it seems neither was in control. They looked nothing like the duo that has brought us, "Marriage Story" (2019), "Little Women" (2019)", Frances Ha (2012).

The intense months of marketing gymnastics for this has placed it on a very high pedestal with expectations shooting through the roof. It seems it worked to fully bait with its rizz and razzmattaza, but it's mainly non cinephile that fell for it, so i doubt if they will still stick around after the colour and props fades and it's time to to decipher the actual message of the movie and so i would very much like to see how this movie does in the coming weeks when the "meth high rush" of the first week has died.

It's not a bad movie but it's not as good as the hype suggests currently. Probably, people who are fans of the lore will appreciate it better but in my honest opinion, depending on your FOMO meter, you can actually wait this out till it sails.

6/10.

Yeah, the story is familiar and I mean in the IP sense. If the delivery is great it could be refreshing. They clearly got their CGI and visuals right.

Lol, na person you dey downgrade cos of him papa?? grin grin Dem don plenty for this generation of fresh actors like Lily Rose Depp. cheesy
lol no mind me grin grin. I feel having a parent that is big wig in certain industry will most likely create a very soft landing should thier offspring enter such industry. I believe filmmakers are casting him as a "favour" to Denzel, rather than him having actual stellar talents.

If you deep it, Nepotism might take someone farther than actual talent 😌😌

Original in what context? Maybe you mean an original IP, but the story itself is not new, because it seems i have seen this before and even know to some certain extent, how exactly it will end, but i think it can distinguish itself with great delivery. Plus David Washington doesn't move me, he's an archy type Nepo baby.

This year na total erratic audience behaviour.

Barbie is looking really good and overperforming that it's possible it becomes the highest opener for they year or 2nd at least.
The only worry I have for it is the reaction from families who are rushing to see the movie when they realise Barbie isn't really all they thought it was from the trailers.
I just know some ppl are in for a rude shock....and how they take it matters. Either way Barbie is already set for success no matter what. It could only slow down not flop.

I'm seriously watching out for weekend #2. That's the most important stats right now — how a movie holds up in the following weeks.
Look at how Pixar's ELEMENTAL is defying the odds. Superb legs so far in what was considered a disaster opening. It might even break even when all is said and done and would enter profitability range in secondary market.
Brother man, "Barbie" has no reason to fail. It had quite possibly the biggest organic and inorganic marketing campaign we have seen for a motion picture in years. In an uncanny irony, it will probably be one of the few movies in history to "enjoy" "FOMO" and the Streisand effect at the same damn time.

I can't believe i am even saying this, but if it somehow manages to fail, then something is fundamentally wrong😩.

That's why i have stayed away from BO predictions.absolutely nothing is moving people in droves to see movies anymore, it's a dying culture, the magic and the aura of seeing a blockbuster on the big screen is gone.

Let me see how Barbie and Oppenheimer preforms sha.

guess is that they would have fixed the CGI for digital release...
The CGI is not why the movie failed, so why will they further waste money on a pipe dream? They just wanna release it digitally and closed the chapter as quickly as possible has they have already written this off as a monumental loss.

And here am I thinking I have a large collection of external HDD( for movies and games) at my disposal😃..Since you go for 1080p and 4k files that 7 external HDD would fill up in no time.. A single exclusive title for you would get me atleast 10 movies with the size of 350mb😁. I download mainly movies in HEVC format, that's the H.264, and when it's not available I then settle for the net naija. Movies encoded in HEVC format are usually small in size and the picture quality is usually good.

I just have 1TB HDD for movies and it's almost filled up though. I hope to get another one from my vendor soon, she recently informed me of the fall in price of the 1TB HDD😁. 14k is really a good deal for a 1TB HDD ( it's internal, then you have to convert it to external with the casing).
lol I have found out that the there's more thrill in filling up your HDD and hoarding than actually watching the files.
😃. Before i would download anything and hoard anything on site, but i now, I'm very selective of the titles i indulge in and download because of space, because i think 7 HDD is an overdrive already, but if i see a good deal like you, i go reason am 😅.

536mb small🙁... It's quite huge oo. I got mine for half the size on our popular website ( make I no go call names make sperm bolt block me 😁).

Besides I dislike movies with enormous size, reason being that I don't see movies immediately after I download them because of chance. So downloading huge sized movies would quickly fill my 1Tb HDD for movies. I currently have about a 1500+ movies unseen at the moment.
lol 536mb is a fair size to me for 720p sha.

Same about the dislike for movies with enormous size because of space, i am already using 7 External HDD'S 😩😩. I go for 1080p and 4K only for exclusive titles if not 720p will do, but i have one guy in my cycle, that only deals in 1080p and 4K files and i collect files from him, so i am almost out space on my HDD's and I'm not planning on adding to my HDD, so these kind of 500mb esque files suites me.😃

I even have 700Gb plus files in my GDrive, that i am yet to even touch, where pesin wan see the time? 😩😩

Weekend Watch List

- Asteroid City (2023)

Time to see what Mr Anderson has cooked this time.

- Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (2021)

Yuta Okkotsu gains control of an extremely powerful, cursed spirit and gets enrolled in the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School by sorcerers to help him control his power and keep an eye on him.
Maan... Asteroid City scares me. It feels like, if you have seen a Wes Anderson movie, you have probably seen them all and the fact that this didn't even last up to a month in theatrical run before the HD release makes me more skeptical.

Speaking of heat, can you take the heat that comes with defending the damages the vaccine has caused?
You clearly didn't read my post further proving the point that you are probably just looking for an unnecessary fight. You bolded the part that suite your narrative and left the part that gave context to my point, I was simply saying he has no say in Disney for him to warrant the harsh rebuke you were using on him. I didn't call abduleez1 names, it was you i called names for the overly aggressive tone you were using against him when the does have a stake on what goes on at Disney. Secondly i used the Anti-vaxx occultist analogy on you because, that's how aggressive and sensitive they usually become whilst closing thier senses to cognitive reasoning, so i wasn't necessarily calling you that.

Now you have switch to a Vaccine debate, go to the health section and debate this, or just talk to people you trust if you have unresolved issues and heal...Life is not that hard.

So why include a lie in your post if you don't know anything about the bill?
The bill has a name but you and your baby fvcker disgusting friends tried to smear Desantis because he wants to stop Disney from sexualizing Kids.

And you lie through your teeth again that Disney parks are generating low income because of COVID, the same Disney that have reduced the price of their Park ticket from $178 to $54 begging people to come to their parks.
If it's because of COVID how come Universal is on the opposite projection.
@ the bolded, that seems a little extreme and totally out of order. It's like abduleez1 is a shareholder at Disney and you yourself sounding like a newly indoctrinated "Anti-Vaxxer doomsday cult" member. He has been clearly trying to dox the heat, but you are hell bent on fighting.

Just relax and keep this thread for the sole purpose it was created, which is recommending, reviewing movies and occasionally dabble in interesting topics concerning these movies in a confined saner banter manner.
