abagoro:Oha(Igbo) = Ara (Yoruba) = The people (of a town/Nation). |
Xiaohei:I hope you know that major infrastructure you see in Lagos, Abuja and other parts of Nigeria were built on properties owned by other people but were demolished to build structures for greater good of the societies? The National Theatre and Oshodi-Apapa express ways were built on some people's ancestral homes. There was a town called Mosan on the place where Jakande Estate,Ipaja was built about 42 years ago, which was 'relocated' . All the 12 Jakande Estates were built on previously existing towns/villages that were demolished and these settlements never recovered. |
Penguin2:You and all these your childish contests on Nairaland. Oil & Gas are natural resources (I.e made and deposited by God across several lands and under the sea), thus with modern Technology, crude oil & Gas can be found in so many States/countries if you are willing to pay for the cost. Investment in extraction and refining of these minerals varies depending on many factors. Whether Imo has all the Gas in the whole wide world is nobody's business except those who invested in tapping and making use of the Gas which can be Momoh from Auchi in partnership with John Stew from Hampshire, Andrew Pedro from Castile, Akinlawon from Igboho and Nngozika from Isiala-Ngwa or Total Energy of France. |
Artscollection:Ndi Victim Mentality, Landmark not an Estate but a Beach (a recreation centre). |
This is so unfortunate. Nigeria need to task drastic measures to grow. We need not follow the recommendations/advice of IMF/World Bank or Foreign Trained Economists. For instance, the FG can engage 2 million Youths to produces clothes and another 2 million Youths to produce rice and another 2 millio Youths to produce Sugar for Nigeria through a complex partnership with States that have comparative and competive advantages and the private sector E.g The FG can liase and work with Sokoto,Kebbi, Zamfara,Niger and Oyo States to produce large quantities of cotton to be used to manufacture textiles for the citizens. Polyesters derived from bye-products of crude oil refineries and small quantities of imported wool will complete the raw materials needed to transform all these into textiles which will inturn be transformed into garments at factories in Kano, Abia and Kwara States, which will be sold across Nigeria. |
Juliusganduje:Can't you see that it is the APC candidate that is demanding Letter of apology and compensation from the accuser or force to take a legal action against the accuser?? |
samomoli:You can build a small Refinery in your State and be selling petrol at #200/Litre. |
DaFuhrer:The oil fields in Ondo State are NOT even in the Ijaw areas but in Araromi, a purely Yoruba area. |
DeLaRue:They understand and speak 2-3 languages (Yoruba, Kogi related dialects and/or Edoid languages). I have been there before and I was surprised seeing them speaking Yoruba and asking me to patronise what they were selling and sometimes switched to these other languages |
spencekat:Was Dave Umahi Deputy Governor to Martins Elechi? |
wunmi590:Femi Pedro actually resigned and moved to another party to contest for the LAGOS 2007 gubernatorial election. |
Nawa4nl:Too many ignorant people on Nairaland. States are not ethnic homelands but units of administration. It is difficult to agree on where one ethnic group end and another ethnic start but it is easier to create States based on agreed boundaries using natural landmarks like Rivers, Hills, Ancient depression or sites of Historical events like battles or points where a Prince of welcome etc |
StOla:Olumide Akpata is from Benin city, not Akoko Edo. High chief Olu Akpata and Hon Tayo Akpata are his uncles |
seunmsg:Please stop all these childish tribalism. |
kenny160:Hmn, Yoruba, Igbo, Edo, Ancient Israelites and many Tribes in different parts of the world parctice this LEVIRATE MARRIAGE, including the English Royal Families until recently (King Henry VIII married Catherine of Aragon, the widow of his late elder brother, Prince Authur and King George V married Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, who was betrothed to his elder brother, Prince Albert who died unexpectedly). In 2020, a 40-year old man died in a rural community in Osun State just after moving into his newly completed expansive house along with his wife, children, mother and some of his extended family. The wife was 33years and by 2022, she was been advised to re-marry and she sought advice from some more matured couples in the town because the late-husband family said if she wants to re-marry, then she will have to leave the house. She said, if she re-marry , then she would have to leave the house because it is culturally unacceptable to bring a new husband to the house and she is not willing to leave the house. One of the elders she consulted asked why not re-marry one of the late husband's younger brothers that is nice to her? He said it is a win-win for both sides. Around 2001, i witnessed a hot argument among some semi-educated women in Ogbomosho in which one of the women was trying to shame her former friend and made references to her sexual relationship with one Mukaila. The woman defended her actions, that even if it is true that she slept with the said Mukaila (which i suspected was true) , there is nothing bad in it. she said Mukaila is her late husband step-brother and it was her Late husband that trained him in 'Poly' and that if they like, they both can marry each other because it is better for her than fucking around. |
Slytiger:The 2011 Election in which GEJ/PDP scored 22 million votes and Buhari's CPC scored 12 million was massively rigged. The introduction of Card reader in 2019 reduced these inflated figures and BVAS in 2023 futher reduced the figures. Although some people will not want to agree but the truth is that, since return to democracy in 1999,the 2023 election was the most free and fair |
Nothing is bad in the Isi-Agwu attire. It sells Nigeria to the world. I am a (proud) Yorubaman but i also wear Hausa-Fulani and Ijaw attires occasionally. After Dr Goodluck Jonathan became President in 2010, i know many guy in Osun State that sew his Ijaw style of attire(Etibor) and some young couples who named their kids 'Goodluck'. |
Objectivist04:You may not understand the culture of her hometown than her. What you just describe as 'nkuchi' is also practice in Yoruba culture, the only difference is that it is the husband's family headed by the Family's Patriach that hand-over the widow to her late Husband's brother, cousin or any close relative to 'so lo po' meaning to re-marry her, raised children in the name of her deceased husband or take care of the widow and her young kids. Other family members are also expected to assist the woman by occasional gifts of farm produce and some may offer to take one of the kids to live with them. The Practice is however fading now due to westernization/ Pentecostal christianity. |
JagabanB:It is a pervasive mentality. IPOB guys and protagonists of Biafra understand this phenomenon and exploit it to remain relevant. Every now and then, they scream that other Nigerians hate Igbos or that other Nigerians are the problems of Igbos citing all kinds of topics/ issues to buttress their points. Interestingly, small groups like Efik, Ibibio, Annang, Ogoni and Ijaw who also experience the civil war don't exhibit such mentality. |
SocialJustice:So if someone invest $800million in a business, it automatically means they have $800 million personal money? When the GENCO becomes operational and start making revenues, then Forbes will start to include such as parts of his assets. With the completion of the Project, the networth of Sepco-Pacific Energy Ltd (owner of Omotosho and Olorunshogo GENCOs) will sky rocket. It is just like someone spending millions on an uncompleted building. It won't be counted as his worth but if the building is finished and rented out to banks, corporate organizations or even as residential apartments, then it will be counted as part of the owner's assets. |
SocialJustice:Davido's father that just invested $1.2 Billion on a Power Generation Station can buy this Jet. |
Heffalump:The Educational system in Nigeria is NOT designed to make Nigeria developed but to act as appendage of the developed countries. In our schools, students are thought * to learn foreign languages *what has ALREADY HAPPENED in developed countries, mostly with textbooks written by foreign authors based on their environments Then students are examined on well they are able to MEMORIZE these theories and concepts. This system create serious barriers to most Africans to fully understand and INTERNALIZE THE KNOWLEDGE of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), so real life applications of what the students are thought in schools is minimal. The Overall Impact: EDUCATED Africans subconsciously become 'programmed' to believe that development must come from these already developed countries. Our Plumbers, electricians, mechanics, welder, carpenters and many other artisans are mostly peoples who dropped out from the educational system and opted for informal training which is done in their mother tongues and based on practical learning of what they see daily in their environments which make it easy for them to come and understand the concepts. Nigeria would be far more developed if our educated citizens also have the skills and practical knowledge of these artisans or if the artisans also have the education of the educated class=> We need to to redesign our educational system to provide a unique blend of both categories. |
shortgun:If you have done anything close to investigations and have lived in Nigeria for more than 10 years, then you will know that this is FALSE. Even chronic loan defaulters (that deserved to be banned) would bribe their ways and obtain more loans. |
shortgun:And you simply believe this hook, line and sinker? Have you bother to cross-check this information? Do CBN give individuals loans or dictate to Banks who to loan their monies or not? How many names are they going to write? Can't they get the loans through another companies? Why is it impossible to think independently by yourself instead of outsourcing it to this person who told you this LAMBA? |
DatNiggaDaz:Millions of Igbos live and many thrive in many areas all over Nigeria, outside their homelands. If Igbos are truly hated as some of you like to parrot, these host communities won't welcome and embrace them to this extent. |
ValarDoharis:The Airline is not owned by the Government and i believe run their business by merits. There are merits in the running of Broadcasting Industry, Commercial Transportation, sales and marketing of building materials, production of iron rods, rearing of cattles, establishment and management of Petrol Stations and Private Hospitals and so many other aspects of Nigerian economy. |
JagabanB:It all boil down to the lasting legacies of the Civil War and subsequent discriminations against Igbos in the immediate Military era. This has created a pervasive sense of victim mentality among them. The Social Media give platform to air this thought and propagate it. |
Starboytwo:Na woman you go chase during your one year NYSC service in Ebonyi? I am sure you go don get secret child for Ebonyi |
SmartPolician:The husband still remain black but the wife has transformed from black to semi-white woman. |
Tinubu has no support base. . .what next? |
PROPEACE:The problems of the educational sector can be traced to their foundation. The educational system in Nigeria were designed by the British Colonial Masters to suit their Agenda I.e To produce Clerical officers to assist in running the Colonial Gov't Offices To produce graduates in Arts & Humanities: to learn how to behave and conform to authorities To produce Health workers: who will man the hospitals. The Colonial Masters deliberately prevented introduction of certain courses like Law: they didn't want too many people to be aware of their rights Science, Engineering and Technology: They didn't want the local people to develop critical minds that can make them independent of their Colonial Masters Pharmacy: they didn't want Nigerians to start producing their own medicines . After independence, these courses were introduced but based on faulty templates left by the colonial Masters. We suppose to have changed them. Have you ever wondered that most of the houses in Nigeria were built by Artisan like Bricklayers, Masons, Electricians, carpenters, tilers and others, who had their training in the informal sector outside the educational institutions? Most of the vehicles on our roads are serviced and maintained by mechanics who had their training outside the educational sector. Most of the foods we eat are also produced by farmers ,who had their training outside the educational sector. Law |
PROPEACE:You are still missing the points: It is not that graduates build Metrolines immediately after graduation or not but the ways the institutions were designed was not to produce solutions to Nigerian's problems. This isn't just about universities but the whole educational system. The problem isn't just limited to the Educational Institutions but also the Policy makers in the Government and private sector. In a Semi-Urban State like Kogi, Nassarawa and Ekiti, Dissertations done by Final Year Students are gathering dusts on shelves when they should be given tasks to do, contribute to the development of their environments and then write Dissertations based on their experiences or write some Dissertations that directly tackle the problems in their environments. The system, need not look like what is obtainable in Yale, Oxford or London. |
