Why do you think Archeological excarvation must be done by Government?

Archeological societies, Departments of Archeology in many Universities and even private citizens like you can dig up those places.

Shiver99:
Op’s post while somewhat inaccurate and rather speculative, hits home on why Northern igboland, especially Anambra, Enugu should be excavated as a matter of urgency. There is evidence of an ancient civilisation that according to historians that could date back to 3000bc, where the north-south migration would have began.

It speaks to the corruption and lackadaisical attitude of Nigeria, that one of the oldest iron smelting sites in the world was found in south east Nigeria and no intense follow-up archaeology work was done.

Fortunately, In Biafra, more work will be done to uncover Igbo history, but I really wish Igbo development unions take it more seriously.

Nairaland is a faceless forum. Some guys that haven't even bought a plot of land will be giving expert opinions on massive construction contracts.

I just completed a personal housing project in my hometown in Osun State.

I deeply regretted the parts that I gave to local artisans to do.

One guy collected my money for digging soakaway pit, dug like 1.5 meters and disappeared.

Even in my hometown, I had to go to Sabo and recruited Ayuba Takai and Danladi (both from Kano State) to complete the digging of soak away and waste pits. Many manual jobs were reassigned to these Hausa labourers.

They don't resume for work until around 10:00 am and they like to close by 5:00pm and will be expecting daily payment.

Some days, they may not even come giving silly excuses that they went for chieftaincy meetings or there were ceremonies in town for them to attend.

They will force you to work at their own pace (slow and more expensive) because they are in their own town, they are never in a hurry to meet any target.
They don't live in rented apartments, their foods are mostly sourced locally and their costs of living is very low.

Above all, they are also part-time farmers. They will use your time to go to farms and only come for your work at THEIR convinient time.

GreenArrow1:
So, apart from ranting on Nairaland where No One in a position to properly address your current misgivings is reading what you are saying, what are you gonna do about it? Just remaining a little part of the wheel in the e-machine promoting online hate in the country? You think contracts like these are awarded at traditional council meetings?

I'm currently executing a federal government contract in the middle belt, which (in your own words have been awarded to a Yoruba firm). I have never come online to come and cry that my parent contracting firm are not from the middle belt.
Federal government contracts are bid for and awarded accordingly at Abuja and not based on tribe but on competency and the Nigerian factor of kick-backs. I have a few colleagues of Eastern and Southern extraction who work for bosses of same extraction that have or are currently executing projects in different parts of the country.
Lastly, yes, everyone uses abokis for construction work. No vex, they are ready and willing to work for reasonable pay with less qualms.
It's always better to use imported Labour for big projects in this country where people like you are ever ready to play the "na my place be this" card. Better for the contractor, better for project delivery, better for the client.
Drink some water.
Education › Re: Ongoing Constructions In UNN By Northern Companies! by oyatz(m): 7:54am On Feb 03, 2020
The contract was awarded in Abuja. Many contractors bidded for it.

Most times, people from diverse ethnic groups collaborate to float or manage big companies like this to increase their national appeal.

The chairman of that construction company may be Tunde Folawiyo, Terry Wayas, Elisha Abbo, Emeka Offor or Sir Donald Abang.

#The main problem I have with this kind of issues is the centralization of the Nigerian political structure.

In true federalism, the FG has no business in awarding contracts or running universities. That contract could have been awarded by the Governing council of UNN.

Why should someone in Faraway Abuja be awarding contracts for projects in Ile-Ife, Ijebu-Ode, Nsukka or Birnin Kebbi?

mynaijaforumcom:
Again, it doesn't have to be Igbos. But let us keep in Mind that Igbos, people in Benue, Edo and all the closer locations are Nigerians as well. Not to mention that the project does not even have to be executed by a Nigerian company.

What is prayer? Prayer is individuals' communications with deities.
Whosever we perceive that can lead prayers varies from individuals to individuals and so many people don't even pray at all.

There's no national consensus on who should or can lead prayers.

Religion of Peace kehhuh

What an irony!

I love many muslims (some are particularly dear to my heart) and some members of my family are muslims but I know there many things about the religion that promote violence.

1) The inability of many Muslims to accept that the Prophet Muhammad, though a messenger of Allah but was a MAN, who like all other morning mortals made errors, had his own limitations and his actions were largely influenced by the prevailing Arab culture in the 7th century Arabia.

2) That some parts of the Holy Quaran and/or Hadith's were just opinions/personal views of the Prophet and these may had acceptability in the Prophet's 7th century Arab society but these may not have universal and/eternal applications.

1)The Sultan is NOT the head of all the Muslims in Nigeria.

2) There is NO one central head of ALL the muslims in Nigeria

3) The Sultan is the President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs which is a Sunni Muslim voluntary group of Nigerian Muslims whose membership cut accross all ethnic groups in Nigeria, including Igbo, Ijaw, Efik, Hausa, Nupe, Fulani, Yoruba , Kanuri etc.

Any prince from the different branches of the Oranmiyan royal dynasty can become an Alaafin regardless of his religious identity.

Before the acsension of Alaafin Lawani Agogooja in 1900, all the previous Alaafin were traditionalists (they were neither christians nor Muslims but practiced African Traditional Religion).

Let me tell you one thing,it will be too simplistic to assume that ALL Non-Igbo politicians will withdraw from the race because some people are talking about Igbo Presidency.

Who will ban Non-Igbo politicians from picking presidential forms of their parties?

It will be best to convince the top hierrachies of the APC and PDP to vote for Igbo candidates during the presidential primaries rather than wishing that ONLY Igbos should contest.

DMerciful:
The North does not vote for BEST, they vote for religion! Obj did not even play any politics, he was broke out of prison. His own people did not vote for him in the general elections and likely even in the primaries. The North believes an Igbo president might have restructuring or secessionist agenda hence deliberately sidelining Igbos. Immediately Yorubas mentioned Amotekun, North started mentioning what Igbos must do to have presidency, something that was a taboo to mention like a year ago
Politics › Re: 2023 And The Quest For An Igbo President By Oke Umurhohwo by oyatz(m): 3:52am On Jan 28, 2020
I am a realist. The real people that can grant this Igbo presidency clamour are not the people on Nairaland but the top hierrachies of the APC and PDP. These are the people that can convince their party delegates to vote for Igbo candidates during the Presidential primaries.

Any other way is like talking to the wrong people and asking them for what they don't have.

DMerciful:

We are saying almost the same thing.

1) Most of the masses aren't wise like the political elites. As a matter of fact, if the Nigerian masses are as wise as the political elites, many things will not happen in Nigeria.

2) Most of the people on Nairaland are educated and are young elites on their own.

Road side Mechanics, Vulcanizers, Brothel based prostitutes, Mai Suya, Motor park touts, most primary school teachers, most tailors, Commercial drivers, Fulaniherdsmen, abbatours workers, Mama put operators, Agbo sellers, Okrika traders, most petrol attendants, ALL the Almajiris and indeed majority of the masses aren't on Nairaland or any social media.

These group of people are in the majority in this country and unfortunately, Nigeria doesn't mean anything to them.

They form their opinions about Nigeria and other tribes largely based on what the educated elites pass onto them.

Because they are the majority and are poor, they interract with each regularly irrespective of tribal differences if it will ensure their survival and happiness.

For instance if Adamu the Almajiri in Bauchi transform to become a successful Mai Suya in Yenegoa with enough cash, he can rent a stall with his Ijaw hosts and if he is streetwise, he can impregnate Ada, the daughter of Mrs Okoro who is selling peppersoup beside his Suya joint.

I will not lie, the virus caught me sometimes but I know I love everyone and I have employed more people from other tribes into my company just to build trust and love.
I have never voted on tribal sentiments though my vote for GEJ in 2011 was on sentiment as I felt the North was not being fair to him but it wasn't tribalistic as he was not from my tribe.

Why must we form an ethnic militia to target fellow Nigerians when the constitution guarantees freedom of movement and doing business nationwide as long as we are Nigerians? What we fail to realize is that the south east cheering on Amotekun sees its as a synonym for their biafra agitations and they will rather support anything that will disband the relative peace and unity of Nigeria.
