1) Banks in Nigieria are usually Public qoated companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

2) Nigerians from different tribes/ religions buy shares in these banks.

3) The ethnic affinities of the board of directors doesn't necessarily mean the ownership of these PLCs by tribes

Anambralstson:
Please mind you words, Union bank is managed by Igbos for years now they are not the owner, Federal Government of Nigeria acquired 51.67% ownership of the Union bank, leaving Barclays Bank Plc of London with 40% ownership. In 1979, that 40% was sold to Nigerian individuals and businesses to comply with then recently enacted banking and investment laws. Yorubas doesn't own Union bank, same as first Bank.

Even though I don't subscribe to the kind of inter-tribal contests going on on Nairaland but your write up is misleading and I need to point it out for the benefits of those reading this comments.

1) Carefully selected pictures of few houses/industries , beer parlour gossips and wishful thinking are NOT acceptable means of comparing developments of States/Countries.

2) If you want to compare developments in Anambra with that of Ogun States, you can compare the following parameters;

a) GNI per capital in USD (Ogun's 2,297 Vs Anambra's 860)
b) Human Development Index ( Ogun's 0.549 Vs Anambra's 0.471)
c) Poverty rates

Typical Conehead

Ogun is far from Anambra in developments, on industries Ogun is enjoying closeness to Lagos, however industry, Agriculture, services makeup GDP, services contributed largely to GDP, Ogun is far below Anambra in services, Anambra is number one leading state in indigenous industries in Nigeria, majority of industries in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo are owned by foreigners and non Yorubas, isn't like that over here, Anambra, host biggest market in West Africa, in national GDP trade contributed more to Nigeria GDP more than industry, the only place relatively developing in Ogun is just the areas close to Lagos, outside those area nothing, Ogun state capital Abeokuta is far backward to Awka Anambra State capital, mind you Onitsha metro is there Onitsha metropolis covers Onitsha North and South LGA, Idemili North Lg, Ogbaru Lg and Oyi LGA, developments in Onitsha has covered many towns, Nnewi is fast developing industrial city. Ogun in next 30 years can't get to Anambra level now, pure fact , this a state I know. Anambra State top Ogun and Oyo in Economy

It's glaring that you have little or no Knowledge of Elementary Economics and I seriously doubt that you truly have International MBA.

However, it will be most unfortunate if it is true that you have MBA from a foreign University and you still judge purely economic decisions by tribal sentiments. I will strongly suggest that you demand from that University, a refund of the tuition fees you paid for that MBA.

#No punes intended.

What exactly is your point? Why muddling up different issues together under one topic/thread?

1) Is this thread about Lagos Vs Dubai? Is Lagos in competition with Singapore?

Does the development of any part of Nigeria disturb or impede the development of Lagos?

Shouldn't we be happy that Lagos, Enugu, Aba, Owerri, Calabar or Ilorin are developing?

2) There is no part of Nigeria that's not developing sir.
It may not be at the rate we want but every State is developing.

In 1990, Gombe and Damaturu were rustic villages but today, you can fly to different countries from Gombe.
Damaturu now have many dual carriage ways with paved pedestrian walkways, functional street lights and many modern housing estates.

kettykings:
i did not study economics , but i have an international MBA , the factors that necessitated the emergence of Lagos are no longer there, as at 1967 -70 when Lagos officially was created as a state ,

Lagos thrived as Nigeria;s capital for more than 25 years with all the oil and gas headquarters and major sea ports located there to bolster the city's economy , everybody saw Lagos as their economic capital and the last bus stop for their big investments but all that is changing very fast no thanks to the next level agenda of the Buhari government and the division of Nigerians into 97% and 5 % who no longer see lagos as their economic capital .

As at the last check, states in the former East are either in the process of building or have already built international airports , some are already building sea ports, some states in the south east are upping the ante by building multi billion Naira complexes for international trade , leather industry , food processing industries, and new era metropolis like the AMC in anambra

Dubai was an abandoned and undeveloped hunting ground for Emirati and other middle easterners.
Seoul of South korea was a devastated capital like the south eastern capitals devastated by war with little or no hope of ever making it , there was more hopes for lagos than seoul that south korean capital, singapore was an over grown ghetto with no hope of ever becoming a major financial center. South Easterner Nigeria Cities like owerri, Onitsha, Enugu was flattened , abandoned, razed to the ground, decapitated with no hopes ever of bouncing back.

Fast forward to 2020 Lagos is still lagos state , Dubai is now a Global financial centre and a major tourist destination in the middle east, The total contribution of the travel and tourism sector to the UAE's GDP was AED 159.1 billion (USD 43.3 billion) which is 12.1 per cent of GDP and it is higher than the Budget of Nigeria.
Seoul is now a major Global financial centre with some of the biggest companies in the world, samsung revenue is in excess of $200b and this is more than times 6 of the Nigerian budget for 2020 ,

Singapore is now a Global financial centre , singapore Tourism receipts was estimated at S$23.6 billion in 2014, compared to S$18.9 billion in 2010, with Sightseeing, Entertainment & Gaming accounting for 24.7% of total expenditure, Accommodation making up 22.5%, Shopping accounting for 17.4% and Food and Beverage another 9.6%.
The abandoned and decapitated cities of the south east like owerri, Onitsha, Enugu are now burgeoning centers with capital inflow from igbos in diaspora , very busy Airports and very high capital transactions in terms of bank deposits and a very mobile work force.

1) There are more Igbos in Anambra, Enugu and Abia States than in Ogun State, yet none of these States have greater numbers of telephone calls than Ogun State. So having substantial Igbo population is NOT the reason for this values

2) So because you know Igbo people living in Agbara, Mowe and Ibafo has automatically changed the demography of Ogun State with heavy Igbo population?

3) There are many Hausas living in Abakaliki, does that mean that Statistics concerning Ebonyi State can be attributed to the Hausa residents in the State?

4) Agbara, Mowe and Ibafo are small parts of Ogun State and aren't even among the LGAs with the highest populations.

5) Most Igbo residents like most other non-indigenes in these border communities (with Lagos State) actually spend most parts of their days in Lagos State where they make most of their telephone calls and only go home to sleep around 9-11pm.

Politics and propaganda mix well with tribalism but economics don't mix well with Tribalism.

Economic motivation dictate how and where people will spend their money , NOT ethnic consideration.

Port-Harcourt is very close to Igboland and it has functional International Airport and Seaport. Why Igbos don't prefer using Port-Harcourt International Airport and Seaport intead of the ones in Lagos?

1. Boycott of Lagos Ports for Niger Delta ports,
2. Boycott Lagos Airports for Abuja Airports for international Flights
3. Universities in the South West for Universities in the East and Niger Delta
4. South West Banks like GTB, Wema, First bank, Sterling for Pro East Banks
5. Relocation of the Nollywood back to the East
6. Boycott and putting a cap to patronage of companies that dont have any base in the East ,cadbury, unilever, nestle
7. Trade tax for goods with no manufacturing base in the east
8. boycott of poultry products from the west
9. stoppage of dumping of goods imported from western ports to the east

While I sincerely believe that the opinions of other Nigerians must be accommodated and their fears allayed but we must know that Nigeria can NOT remain what is it like this without change.

All over the world, policing is a local affairs and each part of Nigeria must be part of it's own security.

If each State has been given the right to protect itself like it was before the Nzeogwu led coup of 1966, there wouldn't have been a Killer Herdsmen crisis today.

Staro:
The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria on Thursday kicked against the formation of ‘Operation Amotekun’ in the Southwest geopolitical zone of the country.

According to the NYCN, the security outfit inaugurated in Ibadan on Thursday is the “military wing” of the Oodua Peoples Congress.

It added that the newly established security outfit is in the league of the proscribed Independent Peoples of Biafra.

National President of NYCN, Alhaji Isah Abubakar, in a statement issued in Kaduna, urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), not to allow what he described as “unconstitutionality” to prevail.

Abubakar said, “Amotekun Group in Southwest is OPC Military wing in disguise and in the same league with the proscribed IPOB. The President must not allow this unconstitutionality to prevail.

“The Southwest Governors must desist from backing nefarious groups such as this one.

“Amotekun is a threat to peace and national security and an attempt to jeorpadize Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“Amotekun is no different from Boko Haram and IPOB Movement in their formative stages.

“Nigerian Police, DSS and Army shouldn’t take this lightly with the governors of Southwest.

“The National Security Adviser should promptly take steps that will avert the looming threat to our national security that is about to be threatened by Southwest governors, OPC and others,” Abubakar said.

I think Ladies should start uploading pictures of any guy they want to start a relationship with, on social media. Be it Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, 2go, nairaland, etc

So that any Lady that is in relationship with the men will come outside and claim him or any body that knows about him can start telling you about him.

This clearly shows you don't know much about Nigerian Political History.

In the 1959 elections: the NPC, Aminu Kano's NEPU, Kashim Ibrahim's BYM, Joseph Tarka's UMBC and several smaller parties had their bases in the North.

In 1979: out of the 10 States in the North, Shagari's NPN only won 4 States convincingly. Southern minorities gave NPN the needed votes to win.
Kwara was hotly contested by both UPN &NPN, the PRP won the old Kano & Kaduna States (now slipted into 4 States), the GNPP won the Old Gongola and Borno States while Azikiwe's NPP won Plataeu State (Now Nasarawa & Plateau States).

1983: Similar pattern as 1979. Different political parties won in the North.

Different parts of the 'North' have different political gladiators with different aspirations.

The 'North' is NOT homogeneous, very vast and far from thinking or behaving in the same way

Nothing will happen, on the contrary it will deepen Nigeria's democracy by entrenching the belief that an opposition party can easily defeat a ruling party.

However, your assertion that the North will always vote for a Northerner is NOT true. It's not backed up with our political reality or History.

Just give one example from 1959 elections till date in which ALL the 19 States in the North voted for only one candidate/party.
