Built2last: #WorthReading Whistle~Blowers in Police Force Speak Out on #EndSars
Kayode Ogundamisi: So a Compatriot who is serving in the Nigerian Police got in touch with me. The officer requested that the publication of the following, this was after a 30 minutes plus conversation.
For safety I will keep the name of the Police Officer out. Hoping Nigerian President and the Police can take note and verify independently.
1. The extortion of members of the public including #SARS is not with the Police personnel on the road, it is institutional.
2. He claims Police Commissioner's embezzles security vote meant for the upkeep of operational officers. Police divisions are meant to get welfare funds but it never trickles down to low ranking officers who now buy their own uniform, fuel car from funds extorted from public
3. Every Police operational team on checkpoints, raids makes a targeted KPI weekly monetary return to their commanders, DPO's and HOD's who in turn makes return to the CP of the State or the CP in-charge of the unit. These CP's makes return to IGP. The PMF is not exempted.
4. The posting of Squadron Commanders is not by merit. They all make returns monthly by deducting money meant for their boys on special duties (Security covers for Celebrities, rich individuals, escorting night bus for transport companies, securing social party, banks and others).
5. He Advised the Nigerian government to immidiatly ban Police officers from operational "stop any arrest" based on expiration of driving or vehicle license as it is a money making scheme. The VIO or FRSC should focus on this and transfer cases to Police if need be.
6. Police is highly commercialised from top to bottom, funds budgeted do not go to the rank and file, police equipment are meant to be repaired but long abandoned and they get votes every year, officers simply look for funds outside of the force to survive and live.
7. "I have a Phd and head a Police Tactical unit, myself and my unit work with pains and bitterness because they work under pressure to give returns to those above and nothing for them. I can not stop the boys so I lecture part time to make up for my upkeep. The rot is huge"
8. "They should probe training funds, they should ask why Police officers have to bribe to go on study leave. If you do not have a godfather you can not go on essential trainings, when you go, you pay back part of your allowance to the admin team in the office"
9. Nigerian Police get international supports for training officers, when the slot comes, you never hear anything, all international courses are shielded in secrecy and you only see privileged people go, office based staff are sent for tactical command weapons training abroad.
10 The problem of Nigerian Police is not just about fund, it is about accountability, a wholistic probe into the existing funds and then reform.
An average constable drives an expensive car when a DSP who chose to be honest walks on foot, the moral is low within the service.
11. High Returning Divisions: There is a division in Abia State called Ndiegoro Divisional Police Station and Eziama Divisional Police Station. Personnel of these stations just like SARS situated at Aba North LGA goes around on mini buses (Suzuki Every) with POS machines.
12. Every young guy on dread or rugged Jean is a fraudster or suspected kidnapper. A certain Bishop and a Police man called Malaysia in Eziama division takes people on gunpoint to ATM and push them out of vehicles late night. These bad officers can be located by Nigerian Police Force.
13. Anyone entering Aba late night is at risk. These men have been reported on many occasions but only asked to refund the money and nothing happens. The reason they are invincible is becouse senior Police officers get returns. To stop the rot, start from the head.
14. Ohuru-Isimiri Division in OBINGWA LGA is a nightmare to tricycle and motorcycles riders. You can visit to ask members of the public about all these stations in Aba. What happens in Aba is replicated across the other Police divisions across the country.
15. The public are also part of the problem of Police officers when officers do gallant jobs, we are seeing as just doing our job, even when we lose officers. Nigerians have made up their mind that we are all corrupt so even those who want to be honest ask why should they bother.
16. The public must fight for Police officers, do you know we rations ammunitions and guns, the weapons we use against robbers with automatic weapons are outdates, when did anyone offer to visit a Police Station or barrack to see how we live.
17. If #EndsSARS or #EndPoliceBrutality is to be successful, the reform must include speaking with officers who do the dirty work, right now everyone is having a conversation about us but no one is talking to us. Police are Nigerians too, we have to build trust with ourselves.
18. Those talking about Police officers on the streets should check how much a sergeant is paid, not to talk of a constable, you can not pay an officer 59 Thousand Naira a month, he buys uniform from it, transport and feed family and you expect the best from him.
19. The number of Police officers is very small, even if you reform, the number we have can not deliver the kind of magic Nigerians want the police to give. The people should not be anti police but separate the bad from the good.
20. I am telling you that the Police officers adopted by some States who pay them extra are doing very well, crime is low and they are dedicated. Nigeria should withdraw police on 'special duties' with VIP and those with money and influence.
21. The Abayi divisional Police officer recently assaulted a lady sexually and detained her for stealing his money. Let the CP investigate him. Let all SARS personnel be sent back to Police Colleges and Training Schools.
PART 2 of Thread!
As Young Nigerians continue to lead #EndSars #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria yesterday, a Police Officer opened up about his experience. I have since had conversations with 3 other officers.*Statements not independently verified. Key points here.
I will call this particular Police Whistle-blower Officer A. He's based in one of the South West State, ranked as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). "This ( #EndSARS ) protest is the best thing that has happened to the force, tell them to take inventory of custody files" "We write the name of suspect on ledger, if your DPO is corrupt, you will have 2 custody ledger, one is for official, the other one is for suspect that will roga *bribe and then they will be released, so it is like they never came to station"
"Tell them to Probe STS and IRT under Police Force Headquarters, if they are serious, let EFCC check bank accounts of officers from IG, AIG, CP, DIG to even sergeant, any policeman with balance of N5Million is a thief, they can start now."
"People should visit Police College Ikeja, or go to any training school in Nigeria, no way you can produce good officers from those places. I hear the IG praising the tactical college Ila Orogun on the way to Oke ile, is he joking? The place is a disgrace"
"You put Police with their family in poultry and call it barracks, even to get 1 room in Police barracks you have to bribe, if you rent in town, you will hide yourself from criminals and your neighbours see you as one of the bad police, the problem is big"
"Let me tell you, when I joined police, we have fuel dumps, where Police operational vehicles will collect fuel daily and it is full up tank, when you come back from patrol, you record mileage and refill, now no fuel dump, you have to look for money yourself"
"When I joined police, we had tailoring department, we had mechanics, they sow the uniform, they repair Police vehicles, now everything is to contractors, they should probe why Police can not keep subsidiary services, is it not civilians that take Police contract?"
"I have safer highway personnel attached to me they need over 80K periodically, service tyre themselves, change engine oil, service van, where do you think they will get the money from when the official money is not coming in?
"Regular Police officer, your course mate posted to EFCC or as ADC or orderly to Politician or to Celebrity will buy land and build house in front of you, so everybody is lobbying to leave fighting crime, if they are serious, send everybody back to beat"
"Armed robbers and criminals are afraid of #SARS, wait till November and December if we don't have something to replace them criminals will strike, Police can not do without a strong tactical team but SARS has turned on innocent people, that is the problem" Even in Police, other officers fear #SARS. They have become a cult within Police, a lot of officers are celebrating but we know we need a tactical team. Government can probe the officers, sack the bad one create a new discipline outfit" "If they round up all the SARS officers, look at their bank account, interrogate them on what they have done, what they know about killings, separate them from the command, some will confess." "Do you know civilians with money approach Police to exchange family members who have committed crime with innocent people? The person making the proposal and the Police are all guilty, that is why I am now happy the young people are fighting for us" #EndSARS
https://mobile.twitter.com/ogundamisi/status/1316750434833510406 This is serious, we know the problem is with the system the police are in, that is why the protest continues after the scrapping of the notorious SARS |

Stateoforigin: An average Nigerian is a wicked, evil and corrupt classist.
Even if Nigeria breaks into 36 countries, nothing will change. There's something wrong with our mentality and I blame our founding fathers.
They didn't learn anything from the colonial masters. They were just more interested in getting freedom. After getting the freedom, they couldn't inculcate good values on the citizens because they didnt learn it. This continued for years until the Igbo people decided to use the military to worsen everything, the result is what we are seeing today (coups and counter coups)
Just look at this guy? His first shot at leadership and he already failed. Sadly, 98% of Nigerian youths will fail.
How many youths protesting today will restructure the country if given the chance? We are talking about reducing the powers of the president by almost 50%.
We have a warped mentality as a people. That's why an influencial Nigerian wouldn't want to join a queue here but will humbly do so in another country.
Again, I blame our founding fathers, they learnt nothing.
#reshapeourmentality Don't generalize this guy's action to the entire youth, he is just a pathetic person if that story is true. But more importantly is the fact that this protest has no leaders, you can take whatever bribes you want, the protest continues. Let's see which leaders can call the protest to end: NO? And mind you, all these accusations might just be the fabrications of the government to discredit the protest and make it look like it is a ploy by some protesters to enrich themselves so as to wane down on the efforts of other protesters. Who told you that Nigerian youths look up to any leaders before taking to the streets, this protest started spontaneously? |

Bros understand that there has never been a protest like this in Nigeria Thank you for this, exactly my thoughts. If government is bribing few people to leave the protest, they are just wasting their money. This protest has no leaders, it started spontaneously. So it is only going to end when the issues are resolved. Since the news is coming of some people taking bribes, we should watch out for some influencers who will be speaking out against the protest tomorrow. |

Nigeria will only start being a functioning country when all these old politicians are gone. Old people are generally too backward or cannot muster the kind of change Nigeria needs right now, the version of old people in Nigerian politics are the most evil of their kind. Because they know Nigeria is not working but they want to keep towing a broken down vehicle just so they can protect their interests. And the kind of hate these people have for the youths is second to none. They know youths, especially male, are the main threats to anything they ever greedily want. From using their stolen money to lure covetous young women to bed to pushing out others off economic hubs through connection based appointments into lucrative public offices or contracts, youths are not going to be contented with such system for long.
These people will do anything to protect their rogue regime, that is why youths must stand up and take back their rights through this protest. You don't need to have a personal encounter with these old politicians for you to get a sense of what I mean, it is as exactly as I said it. They are your enemies, because they want to keep you as a slave under the shackle of their one-sided rule for forever, so that their children and grandchildren will also rule over your children and grandchildren. I know everybody cannot be a leader, but the current crops of Nigerian politicians don't have the resourcefulness and sincerity of purpose to move the country forward. They are just there to protect their interests at the expense of others. |

We want a country where the children of nobody will become somebody without knowing anybody He no go better for all the people wey make us end like this as Nigerians. I just hope this protest can spur revolutionary changes in the land and give opportunities for all. Some people say Nigeria will be torn apart by a revolution given that there are many secessionist groups. But a country badly corrupt like Nigeria may need to be torn apart in order to be rebuilt. The secessionists want out because of the badly organized state of the current system. I hope this ongoing protest can drain the swamp of the current crops of politicians and clear the path for the next president as a youth, someone of a younger age below 40 who has the clear vision and creativity to move a country like Nigeria forward. The current old guards must leave for the country to take a big step forward in the comity of nations |

The best way to protest is to leave the street and voice out your mind on social media. Such digital approach can be so convincing for any government to resist.
We just have to leave the street first.
Sorry about the loss Nigerians. What do you mean? The street protests are actually the ones those political crooks are concerned about. SARS has been protested against on social media for years, nothing changed. Social media are just there to shed light on the street protests and let the world know what is happening in Nigeria, because Nigerian media outlets are politicised. The real protesters are those guys taking to the streets, not the ones hiding behind keyboards on social media, though their efforts are also commendable. How can people be doing what SARS was doing? Why victimize the wife of James Nwafor who probably never knew what her husband did at work? Even if she knew, what could she have done?

AllOfUsAtManna: killing innocent people is an understatement during his time awkuzu SARS is equivalent to death sentence. if you ever go there even with a minor offense and come back alive and you didn't become a born again, forget it. (yes they can arrest you for two fighting and you'll pay 500k for bail or get killed) there was this my street guy then that was arrested for confronting a rich man's son who tried to bully him. the rich man called awkuzu SARS and got the guy arrested. their way is that even if they arrested you for ordinary two fighting once you enter their hand they'll lebel you either an armed robber or kidnapper. then they'll ask your people for a huge sum ranging 500k above and if they fail to bring it then that's the end. ok back to my street guy. while his poor parents where running up and down to get the money they have already planned to execute the guy tomorrow. early morning like that they came to the guy's cell called him and few other guys inside. while they where taking them out to kill them they got a call from this nwafor demon that the parents of the boy have made the transfer yesterday that they should not include him on the list of those that'll be wasted (their slang for killing) na so they carry the guy go put back to the cell and those guys they took with him never returned their cries where heard after gun shots that's the end of them even the other remaining cell mates where so surprised to see him returned because nobody has ever returned after early morning take out. for close to a week after release the guy was just moping in the hospital he didn't talk anything. it took the efforts of the doctors to give several injections before his spirit came back. hmmmm that was when I learnt that majority of these people being executed are already dead even before execution because most of them even at the point of their execution they won't even show any sign of pain or anything they'll just mope to death because their spirit has already left, what's left is just a breathing body. that's why Bokoharam will just be slicing someone's throat but the person won't show any sign of struggle. reason is that the person is already gone.
it was a chilling experience for the guy.
till today this guy is a pure devoted evangelist that always preach preach preach You people were aware of the crime committed by those awkuzu SARS and you still allowed them to carry on with the atrocities, I think the people in that area were complicit of the crime or were too docile to be called humans. Silence in the face of egregious injustice is tantamount to injustice itself. What happens to massive bombardment of the police station by the people. I think Nigerians were too cowed by the excesses of police and politicians before now. I just hope this EndSARS protest can lead us to something bigger in sanitizing the country. |
