I've taken time to identify some reasons why 'we' Nigerians are the root cause of our problems,

Nepotism:- Given obvious favourism to friends and family members who are mediocres is the norm in Nigeria today, people often say there are no jobs in Nigeria, well there are, you only just have to know or be friends with someone who belongs to the political elite. This is among the reason why every sector of the economy is decaying at an alarming rate.

5. Hubris:- I must say the amount of hubris possess by many Nigerians is of tremendous quality! Even an individual whose image has been tainted with all sorts of proven facts on corruption will still come to the public and speak openly without shame. The way Nigerians flaunt their arrogance is alarming, Humility has been flushed down the toilet, gone are the days when LovePeddlers, 419, thieves, Molester, paedophiles and homo sexuals hide, now you see them opening flaunting themselves, you ask a person, who was caught red handed breaking the law why he/she broke the law and their answer to you is "do you know who I am?" Or "do you know who my father is?"

These traits are the major reasons why Nigerians are really the root cause of Nigerias many problems, because they reside in each and everyone of us, to some its much and to others its little, if we can put our negative attitude aside and do what is expected of us, I believe Nigeria be on the same level with many developed countries.

Sincere 9gerian: Is it about the east-west road or about not carrying him(Asari) along(ie free oil money not trickling into his pocket)? The east-west road is a big challenge considering how vast the road is. Though the minister of Niger delta has been unimpressive, the challenges of funding must also be appreciated. The records show that about N100billion is required annually to complete the road in 4yrs. When compared with the total annual budget for the ministry meant to over-see the project, which is N59billion in 2012, the challenges are obvious.
However, I agree with Asari in that the govt should find a way of funding the project. Currently, funds from SURE-P is being deployed to fix some sections of the road. Funds should also be mobilized from wherever to support whatever the ministry has to complete the road.

This is unbelievable

Why did the cop wait for the suspect by his house when his only offence was apparently assaulting his wife? He was not wanted for a drug crime or robbery.

Why did the policemen not wait to see why he turned around or wait to see a knife but instead shot the suspect in head? He could have shot him in the leg or bum but he chose to aim for his head.If that is not murder ,i don't know what is.

This policeman kept on shooting the suspect while he was on the ground and even shot him after yelling shots fired into the radio.That just does not make sense.There are so many errors there that is glaring to anyone who has ever being in law enforcement or ever being trained in the use of firearms.

When one considers the type of weapon the officer was carrying and the fact that the first shot hit the suspect in the head,one shot would have been enough to bring the suspect down but the officer pumped out 14 shots of which 11 hit the suspect. If that is not overkill i don't know what is.

I also question why the officer chose to use his firearm instead of a tazer in a domestic violence case like this.

Graphic footage of a police officer shooting a man eleven times outside a suburban home - killing him - has been released a day after the officer was cleared of wrongdoing.

Attorneys for Ernesto Duenez Jr., 34, showed the video, which was recorded by a camera in the cop's patrol car on June 8, 2011, at a press conference in Oakland, California on Wednesday.

It shows police waiting for Duenez, who was wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident that day, to arrive at a friend's home. They swoop on the home once he arrives in a pickup truck.

Duenez, a passenger in the truck, can be seen climbing across the seats and opening a door as Manteca police officer James Moody runs towards the vehicle with his gun pointed.

Gunned down: The officer, who thought Duenez had a throwing knife, fires 14 shots, hitting him 11 times


Police have claimed the officer saw a knife in the man's right hand and feared he might throw it or charge at him in the frantic, fast-paced exchange.

Duenez's family's attorney says he was unarmed.

On the video, Moody is heard shouting: 'Drop the knife now!' and 'Hands up! Hands up, Ernie! Don't you move, Ernie, don't you move or I'll shoot you!'


The officer is seen firing 13 bullets in 4.2 seconds as Duenez moves to get out of the car.

He was shot 11 times - once in the head, eight times in the body and twice in the extremities - and four were while he was on the ground. He died of gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.


On the video, a bullet wound can be seen in Duenez's back as he rolls around on the ground clutching his chest.

His wife, Whitney Duenez, then runs from the home, screaming at the police officer, who tells her to stay back. She runs to her wounded husband and sobs over his body.

The video also shows that it was not until after more officers arrived on scene and attempted to move Duenez that they realised his foot was caught in the seatbelt, the Manteca Bulletin reported.

The video was obtained by John Burris, an Oakland attorney who filed a wrongful-death federal lawsuit against Manteca Police and Moody in July, through the discovery process in the case.

He released it at the news conference a day after the San Joaquin County district attorney's office decided that Moody had been legally justified in shooting the man.

Police said they later found an eight-inch 'throwing knife' with a four-inch blade in the bed of the truck. Moody, who has been on the police force for 12 years, had believed he was in danger, the San Fransisco Chronicle reported.

And video experts for the district attorney's office said it did look as though Duenez had a knife in his hand at the start of the footage. Yet they lost sight of it and did not know how it ended up in the bed.

He had allegedly been involved in a domestic disturbance that day with his wife and witnesses claimed he was carrying the knife and was known to carry a gun, but none was found at the scene.

Burris said that Duenez had not been armed and was trying to surrender. He added that even if there was a knife 'he made no aggressive movements toward the officer'.


The attorney said he has asked the U.S. Justice Department to open an investigation and pursue murder charges against 40-year-old Moody.

'We have communicated to the Department of Justice that this man should be prosecuted for murder,' Burris said. 'He should be held accountable just like anyone else would be held accountable when they engage in this kind of barbaric conduct.'

In the report, the district attorney said Duenez was a gang member who served three prison sentences for drug, stolen vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon charges. Burris added that the man was in violation of his parole.

The graphic video has been posted on a Facebook group, Justice for Ernest Duenez, adding: 'We once again ask for your help in seeking justice! We need a public outcry!'

Burris added on Wednesday: 'This family seeks retribution. They want this man prosecuted for this conduct and I’m certainly going to do whatever we can with the Department of Justice as well as the US Attorney’s office to see if we can make that happen.'

Duenez's mother, Rosemary Duenez, 58, said at the news conference that she wanted to release the video after she realised police 'would never deliver us justice'.

'People need to see what happened,' she said, the Chronicle reported. 'They need to know what we see, and what we're fighting for.'

Manteca Police would not comment on the shooting due to the lawsuit. Moody has returned to active duty.

The Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory has rejected plans by the Federal Capital Territory Administration to spend additional N9bn on the provision of infrastructure at the yet-to-be-completed residence of the Vice-President.

The committee, which visited the building site in Abuja on Thursday, refused to accept explanations from FCTA officials that N9bn more be sunk into the project.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Smart Adeyemi, who led members of his committee to the site, said such a huge amount was unjustifiable in the face of abject poverty in the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Adamu Ismail, told the committee that the project was awarded in 2009 at a cost of N7bn.

He said the additional fund was needed to provide furniture, fencing, two protocol guest houses, a banquet hall and other security gadgets.
According to Ismail, the proposal is not included in the original plan of the building being handled by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
He said, “We have worked out the details and passed it to Bureau for Public Procurement for consideration. They have sent it back to us with their observation. We requested N9bn but now it came to about N6bn.”

However, Smart said, “The National Assembly is not going to appropriate additional N9bn for the project, especially at a period in this country when people cannot get a square meal.

“The N9bn is far more than the original cost of the project.
“Fourteen billion Naria to me is huge for the Vice-President’s house. If you are even talking of N10bn that would be understandable.

“The reality is that N14bn is indefensible and that is our submission. In Nigeria there are still many people with empty stomach. So we have to look at budgeting in relation to the needs of the people.”

However, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Senator Domingo Obende, urged the officials to submit the details of the additional scope of work for which the fund was required to the committee for proper scrutiny.

The Vice-President’s residence had N2bn allocated to it in the FCTA’s 2013 budget.

Mobile telecom giant MTN, has put on hold the sale of new sim cards and halted new subscriber add-ons following a directive from the National Communications Authority (NCA).

Per the directive, MTN is to immediately stop selling and adding new SIM cards and subscribers to its network until further notice.

According to the NCA, despite numerous engagements with MTN on issues of its quality of service experienced by consumers on its mobile services, the network performance on MTN continues to deteriorate.

Last month, MTN on several occasions had to apologize to its subscribers after numerous network disruptions.

MTN in a statement to Citi Business News has indicated though it is still engaging the NCA on the matter, it will cooperate with the authority to implement the directive.

The telecom operator assured its customers that every effort was being made to urgently address the recent network challenges in service delivery.

MTN is the largest telecom service provider in the country with over 11 million subscribers in the country.

What credible opposition does the PDP have? ACN are just cleverer thieves.I used to trust Fashola until i dug deeper especially in to the procurement of the used Canadian trains where it was clear that the contract was inflated and safety regulations were totally ignored.The only person i respect to take over reigns of Nigeria is professor Pat Utomi. He has been campaigning for years but nobody takes him seriously because he is the right man for the job.Instead Nigerians intentionally choose the worst person for the job.That is why we Africans are regarded as being unable to run our own nations.

You have a point but unlike Nigeria where we just sit down & look ,the SA president has been under serious fire and stands to loose the next elections in December.He is being being attacked from all angles that it is only a matter of time before he collapses under pressure.You see he hid the information from the public and was only found out when the information was leaked.In Nigeria however the government announces such projects to the public because they know Nigerians won't make any noise.You see the deference

That being said ,the majority of the voters in South Africa are blacks without access to internet ,TV or radio so they just vote with their heart instead of their brains.They also happen to have an acute fear of white people so they will never elect a white led party (Democratic Alliance) into power.They vote blindly for the ANC because it freed them from modern slavery.

On that point i strongly agree with you because despite all the "black man bragado mentality" that we all have ,the fact remains that no African country governed by an African has ever progressed for a long time.Still you need to stick to the issue which is : what do we do about saving Nigeria??

I have been blessed in my life and have achieved some level of success since being here.I am looking to come back home but i do not think i can tolerate what is going in Nigeria.I want to do something for my people even if it means loosing my life in the process.If i can find 50 Nigerians with my mindset ,we can make a lot of impact in Nigeria.Nigerians youths need to be jump started into a revolution and there is no one left to do that except maybe Pastor Bakare who seems to be the only one making the right noises right now.

I am for a bloody revolution because unless these greedy politicians have their blood shed ,they will never fear the people.That is just the way it is.We must not wait for the military to take over ,we the citizens need to act now.Our politicians only respect violence,only this democrazy bullsh*t won't work with African leaders.All i require is 50 diligent young Nigerian who are interested in genuine change ,not change for their pockets and something will give.The fact is a lot of us come here to moan and whine but how many of us are actually interested in doing something to change the status quo??

I think i am going to come back home and set up a kidnapping syndicate to start kidnapping relatives of these assholes in Government.
