Sibrah:How far with Fowler now? No IGR/Tax/Diversification again? We haven't heard the bull's story for months now. Hope all is well. |
If they can just take Nigeria back to where/how they met it and take their leave, we will pick it from there. They did extreme damage to the economy in just one year without shame. God's willing, we will roll-up our sleeves and get to work to effect adequate repairs. According to the CIA Factbook, Nigeria was already a $1.1trn economy (on PPP basis) at the end of 2015. But all has virtually been taken down by Buhari. With all the household income wiped-out within one year, with productive people out of jobs, with foreign and local investors lacking enough confidence to take needed risks, it is only the resilience of Nigerians that has prevented the country from going down further. And the resilience is thinning out. |
kaltonga:This is becoming alarming in Nigeria at this moment. It cuts across all social strata of the society. At the rate people mutter inaudible words to themselves on the streets, offices, etc only God knows what might become of the general state of mental health of Nigerians in the coming months. Instead of venting the anger out, people have chosen for one reason or another to internalize their frustrations and misery. They are bottling-up their personal failures to the detriment of their health. Almost all the avenues and social structures available to reduce tensions in the country have been taken down due to Buhari's government monumental failure; family is broken due to loss of jobs/income, nutrition is inadequate, entertainment is almost getting ridiculous - nothing is amusing anymore, jokes are dry not because of the contents but because of the recipients' mental condition. Only God can help Nigeria. |
Built2last:One of the grandest conspiracies ever. Even Obasanjo doesn't know more than he is allowed to. Perhaps we will get all the details someday through Wikilleaks. |
There's only so far NEPA bill certificate can take you. This is the saviour of some people. |
All this 'long English' just to deflect their shame for betting their lives, reputation and careers on a totally unfit person as president. All this grammar just for psychological self-assurance and rehab after learning that they have been scammed. Pray, what has happened to that Buhari's 'omnipotent' body language now? Is the battery flat? After blaming Jonathan, PDP, God, Nigerians, etc for Buhari's serial incompetences, they cannot still come to terms with their own self inflicted monumental error which was propelled by their thoughtless choice and sheer tendency to gamble consistently. They have now found an easy and mentally lazy escape route. Did this lady's source(s) not know all this about Daura and Abba Kyari before they staked their existence of Buhari's mega-super powers? How come the source is just waking up to Hajo Sani's overbearing stifling role and 'hatred' for Aisha Buhari now? Ehn! After warning these people not to use their own hands to 'carry jombo' which fell on deaf ears, they are now telling us that their god actually needs help. O ma se o. Their god and personal saviour is now inside a cage made by two 'evil men' and must be rescued fast before it is too late. Eyah! |
Mr Dogora, what about the CRIMINAL SHARIA bill that you are helping to smuggle into the constitution even with your 'free unsolicited' consultancy to the bill's sponsor? The bill went on to the second reading in secrecy; is that also in the constitution? |
It's an extreme economic depression, not recession. |
Na wa oh! These people ehn! Who is blocking whom now? Did they not explain to Buhari the consequences of what he was signing last month? Was he blindfolded? Did he sign under duress? Buhari signs Paris Agreement, seeks help on Lake Chad |
Nobody wanted him dead, he was suicidal. End of story! |
Kiakia:What is happening in Nigeria has gone beyond recession, it's a full blown economic depression. Nestlé does not sell beer neither did UTC Foods. What is going on in the country currently is a severe economic hardship occasioned by Buhari's medieval economic policies that can only be interpreted as economic sanctions on the citizens. |
In another news, Buhari and his APC party are 'diversifying' government revenue through non-oil tax (read: taxes on company profits). Now, they would have to introduce COMPANY LOSS TAX to fund their ONE EGG PER DAY and CONDITIONAL CASH TRANSFERS programmes in order to 'lift millions above poverty'. After all, Guinness, Nestlé, Cadbury, MTN, etc have been LIVING ABOVE THEIR MEANS for the past 30 years, as we are being told by the psychopaths. |
They told us budget 2016 will last till May 2017. Budget 2017 is being prepared to 'reflate' the economy. They have already given up on the 2016 ZERO BUDGET. Are we waiting 8 FULL MONTHS before the economy begins to get out of recession now? What is all this? |
Any news about ZERO budgeting? What's the update? Any information on MTN's N1trn fine? What about the Yuan/Naira swap? |
AntiWailer:Oh! So, this is good news ehn? You've changed your policies at last?
|
Nigerians are under Buhari's local and international economic sanctions. |
Pavore9:That was included in the article for a mischief purpose. DailyTrust 'conveniently' overlooked Yaradua's tenure characterized by stalling, reversals and cancellations of Obasanjo's power sector reforms and projects and the revival of same by Jonathan accounting for the functionality of the several of the gas plants mentioned. |
Buhari should swallow his pride and revert the TSA to where he met it. The CBN is not known to pay a single interest on the money in the TSA 'warehouse', and inflation at over 17% and rising. That means the money is losing 17% of its value. Return back the money to the banks, they will use it to reflate the economy through lending. But more than that, Buhari should be persuaded to resign. He has made his point. God will reward him in his future endeavors. He has really tried his best. Just that his best is not up to what is needed to run an ordinary local government in Katsina State. |
Buhari should be persuaded to resign. He should be encouraged with mouthwatering severance package/retirement benefits. If possible, he should go with one of the planes in the presidential fleet or a new one should be arranged for him. His photographer should be permanently attached to him to take his pictures all the time. His children's school fees should be paid promptly at any school of their choice anywhere in the world. If it's possible, a replica of the Villa should be constructed for him anywhere of his own choosing. They should assure him Dasuki would not be released. His pension should be called salary or estacode so he won't 'reject' it again. His appointed staff will still be around him to pay obeisance every morning and give him a pseudo security briefings. All these and more should be worked out for him. He should be so comfortable in the new 'Villa' that he won't ever be tempted to mount up campaign to turn Nigeria into 'paradise'. The UN should facilitate the agreement while Obasanjo and Dr Ahmed Joda should sign as witnesses for him. Meanwhile, Dr Agbakoba what is this oooo... FG must also create a robust mortgage private sector led market, by waking up dead capital trapped in the national housing stock valued at $7 trillion. ?$7 trillion? |
Buhari should just apologize to Nigerians. Nothing seems to be thought-through before he comes up with reversals of past administration's policies only to come back to the same policy when he has severely burnt his hands. Recall that this particular policy was said to be the one of the most 'corrupt' policy of the past administration. They used the media to tarnish people's image in the most vicious manner. Only to come back to the same 'corruption'. |
mu2sa2:You won't drink 'poison' but you would gladly receive money from tax on 'poison'. And then turnaround to accuse 'drunkards' of hypocrisy? Haba Mallam. Why not practice what you preach? |
MicroBox:National grid? Dr. Malaolu's argument is simple. Sokoto and some other states believe consumption of alcohol is immoral. Not only that, they also believe that gambling is immoral. They have laws prohibiting these acts. That is their belief. Everyone has a right to his/her belief. However, Lagos and some other states don't see anything wrong with consumption of alcohol and gambling and are collecting tax called VAT on the acts. So, for every bottle of liquor that is consumed in Lagos or Benue or Akwa Ibom, 5% goes to the federation account to be shared, to all states and FCT. Now, why should Sokoto be sharing from the tax proceeds from other states on the activities they have prohibited? Your argument againt Dr. Malaolu would be sound if you can present any activity from Sokoto State contributing to the federation account which Lagos has prohibited and which Lagos is sharing from its proceeds. Please do so and stop the diversionary 'national grid' argument. Produce what you feel is good for you and take the proceed then contribute what you can afford to the federation account for sharing by other states. |
GoldenJAT:Perhaps they too argued, like you are currently arguing, about TIMING. Perhaps they too wanted to get the 'system we are practicing right' just like Buhari and APC are currently 'getting it right'. Perhaps they too saw 'things from different perspective' like you. The results? Well, you be the judge. "Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest." - Ecclesiastes 11: 4. |
Femo230:Start from the recent confab report. |
mu2sa2:Mallam Musa, it seems you are the hypocrite here. Alcohol consumption is taxed (VAT), the proceed of the tax is distributed to 'help' you and your state in form of direct monthly allocation from the federation account. How then can you say 'alcohol consumption does not help anyone' when you are directly benefiting from it? That is what Dr. Malaolu was trying to tell you. Why not reject the portion of VAT on alcohol consumption to promote your belief? Meanwhile the bulk of the local food stuffs consumed in the country is not produced in the states where consumption of alcohol is frowned at. And then the bulk of the food stuffs are purchased for consumption from the producers at a price. |
GoldenJAT:You went to the moon and just came back maybe. If so, welcome. Now try and settle down and keep yourself abreast of happenings while you were away. The deafening call for restructuring of the country (which Jonathan himself resisted for many years but caved in eventually because of his second term, perhaps) led him to set up a conference of all stakeholders. The conference came out with far-reaching decisions unanimously adopted. It was thought to be the starting point of the restructuring that reasonable Nigerians have identified as the panacea to the lingering underachieving status of the country. The ACN and Buhari's CPC didn't believe that then just as they don't believe it now. Nigeria is not a nation as you think. Nigeria is a country of MANY NATIONS with different goals and objectives. Each nation is perpetually at each others jugular for the scarce resources. Some nations want to move fast to achieve their goals while some others are comfortable moving slowly. Unfortunately there is no national pace. You would be a superhuman to be able to 'marry' these goals together in an efficient way (even if you are dealing with inanimate objects). Tried as we have, we haven't been able to 'face the situation we find ourselves together'. We have used coercion, we have used persuasion, all to no avail. At every juncture, the suspicion and antagonism is perplexing. No country can 'propel' anything under this arrangement. The earlier your type recognizes this, the better for the country. |
989900:Not true! Not everyone. Buhari has never been for restructuring, he hasn't even pretended or faked it. |
Noooooo! They said the problem is 'corruption and lack of good governance' (two concepts they don't even understand). They said if they just 'kill corruption' (by media trial) the whole country would just turn to UAE/Switzerland the next day. They said if they just drill boreholes and 'feed' 5,000,000 people with eggs (their concept of good governance) people would be 'lifted out of poverty'. |
Einl:Relax, Saturday Punch will soon hear from First Bank's lawyers if what you are saying is the truth. |
Worshipers will tell you that Nigerian banks are corrupt. Based on their argument last year that those sacked were products of corruption, we should not expect anything different. They told us then that sacked workers met their fate because of the 'corrupt way' they were employed which the 'full implementation' of the TSA has put a stop to. Remember they always have ready response to all their failures. They always have a way to explain their failures without taking responsibility. And to those who would demand for the names of the banks, check them there. Even First Bank considered to be a 'quasi-civil service' job is listed. |
Nigerians can only pray to God to avert this. This government and its supporters won't act in time or put any measures in place. They don't know how to face their own challenges. Worshipers would tell us since the past administration did not 'diversify' the economy Zika virus can't be checked. We would soon hear/read 'had the Jonathan/PDP not looted the treasury, Zika virus would not have come to Nigeria'. They are not capable of doing anything themselves. They are only interested in celebrating/commissioning others' achievements/projects. |
ezan:So unfortunate my brother. The whites know thatl we live for the moment and nothing more. They are aware we neither scrutinize the past nor plan for the future. We hardly even make effort to look at trends or connect the dots. When we make attempt to sketch something like a plan, it all ends in shallow wishful conjectures. Then we start making excuses or blaming people, things, circumstances etc. |
