Kingback: Look at the animal I'm even arguing with. This was her opinion in another thread on disciplining kids:

This was my response:

My dear, you talk too much thats the problem. You don't have to comment on every single issue.

FamilyRe: House Please Your Thoughts: How Can A Lady Lower Her Standards? by queensmith: 11:00pm On Aug 16, 2012
People really make me laugh on this website, I am ever soo amused.

Sha Sha- where is the op? why can't i see it? I want to see it!

But to the title of the post I will say this, You have no standards, you can console yourself by saying you want to lower them but the truth is you are only worth as much as you think of yourself. The standard of men you go for reflect what you believe you deserve. Nobody is going to treat you better than you treat yourself. It not compulsory one marry, have a lavish wedding, or live with a man. Its really not, love is never forced, and the truth is most marriages we see in Nigeria today are sham. I promise you that only a handful of people have happy marriages don't buy into the hype.
Focus on living and loving yourself, eventually you will learn the things that will truly make you happy. Find yourself.

she obviously wants to marry a moronic insecure man- only an insecure slowpoke will be threatened by a woman with money. Now she needs to decide which is more important, marrying a monkey or having 30million to manage. If it is the former, please wire all the cash to me asap. I could do with 30mil, how much is that in pounds? about 10grand. . .yes that will be sufficient *starts head calculations*

CrimeRe: Nigerian Coupled Jailed For Beating Their Kids In The UK by queensmith: 2:34pm On Aug 16, 2012
aribisala0: Most of our parents did what they did because that's what their parents did.Beating kids is kinda like fast food it is quick and solves the problem immediately for a while. It also puts an emotional gap between them and so often when they grow up they never really talk to each other. I think women display the greater violence to their kids and maybe this in an outlet for society's oppression of women

There is no evidence for it but at the very best they were using morphine to sedate the baby because of excessive crying or at worst even trying to kill it.
Morphine would normally be given in children of that age for severe pain like Burns, fractures or after operations and they would be monitored by machine in hospital . It was this case that made the police re-open the file of the other incidents that happened over a year ago.
I agree with this, not with the women displaying greater violence statement, but of the gaps it creates between parent and child, it causes resentment.

I'm probably still thinking in an innocent manner on behalf of the parents but I'm guessing they used the drug to put the baby to sleep. African women are popular for doing that, self medicating their children. we were actually told to refuse the sale of common otc cough medicine to women for that purpose (I actually thought it was racist).
I don't believe they were trying to kill it, they'd have to be stark raving mad.
I'm guessing it was codeine, but some morphine is available otc so it probably wasnt illegally acquired.

KingisBack: You seem to know everything about nothing.

Like someone said, are you Banky? I doubt you are, but what I don't doubt is that you might have been one of his London side chics at one time or the other.... or ure aspiring to be. Why don't you just sit on the sidelines and watch the bombs go off instead of jumping in the middle of the fray and getting decimated by shrapnel? People are here complaining of how they were duped, and apart from your post above all you've chatted na straight up Barbage (Barbage is like the older cousin of Garbage --- worse smelling and even more putrid. Just so you know).

No be by force to type. Ok, we don hear you and we thank you for your advice. Just remember, this is not Peckham, this is Cali and theres a way we handle our problems here, so we'll appreciate if you sit on the sidelines and let us handles ours. When they take your pounds 2 years in a row, then you can use your advice on yourself and fellow Londoners. But until then.......

Have a seat!
you are a monkey! you have your was of handling things yet the op had to resort to twitter and nairaland to complain about losing her money? well done!

million dollar question, you can say that again.

theres consulting, nurseries, tutoring, you can do retail when employment goes back up dont forget we have many consumers, recruitment, marketing, data management, jaybee mentioned property is a brilliant idea- start small, refurbishing, loft conversions, redecorating, interior designing, party planning/promoting. seasonal but still very lucrative. theres animation, quite a few of those have popped up and are doing good, you can start a travel agents, go outside london and opena corner shop, start a procurement firm force the local authority to use you, visit a local business advise thingy. I haven't tried using them before.
and start networking to identify gaps in the market, im sure theres a million and one things to do the problem is identifying them.

debrief08: Queen, very unfair conclusion, its not about gender, My Mother In law was very strict with her sons, My Husband takes after her in that direction.
Her Parents think even retouching her hair is spoiling her, I wouldn't want to say much about them but they really don't input much in her upbringing.
Her parents sometimes like to talk, if I didn't take her as I would my sister they will talk now that I have taken her as mine they still say I spoil her. She is polite, kind, helpful.
As for monitoring her in the university, I intend to trust her judgement, I have done my best in the little time I have, (over 4 years), she has grown from a rude teenager to soneone focused and goal oriented.
As for catering school, that's our responsibility, she did that when she was on break in secondary school, she is a great cook and baker, she has a great future in catering as a side business. She has told me the business side of owning a black berry, she can post pictures of snacks and drinks.
I don't intend to defy my husband but to clearly explain to him. She is not a direct niece of my Husband but was brought by her parents so she can help us out and we can train her. She was barely 12, I refused to have a little girl as help and told them so but that we will keep her and train her still.
I really try not to be negative concerning her parents
If its because of her parents I understand, but i know if she were a boy it will probably be different. nobody will be suggesting her having a phone means she can get pregnant.
meanwhile most of the 11 year olds in my family all use bbs, its not costly, i'm guessing they all have friends on messenger. And you can discretely steal the phone once in a while and read all her messages. You can take it from her when she's naughty, lol. Try to talk her parents around, its not expensive. Don't deprive her of something soo little.

aribisala0: No they were not imprisoned on the basis of the children's say so alone.

They were not named because the law requires the children's identity to be concealed. So lots of details are missing. Normally there would be medical reports too.
The law is VERY CLEAR and does not distingush parents from any other person and so what would we expect to anyone other than the parents if they had done this? They were not ignorant just recalcitrant. After the first visits by Social services why did they not change their ways or go back to Nigeria so they could kill their children in peace.

Are they the Only Nigerians in the UK huh

Personally I think they got exactly what they deserve because they are animals and the sentence reflects how serious their actions were
Well i guess we can agree to disagree- meanwhile pedophiles and murderers run free. . . .

Just throwing it out there- get a legal person (could be a student gan sef) to write a nice sexy threat to the company's head. Threaten to report them to the US equivalent of the home office for fraud.
This is very dangerous for them as they won't be able to get working permits if the accusations are found to be true, trust they won't risk anything they'll refund you immediately.
If they don't respond, report it to the police and whoever deals with trading standards over there- you can nab them on many things. For one I am 100% sure these party promoters do not pay 1kobo of tax. . . . . . . .

CrimeRe: Nigerian Coupled Jailed For Beating Their Kids In The UK by queensmith: 12:05pm On Aug 16, 2012
aribisala0: 7 years is a VERY BIG tariff in the UK. That sort of sentence is very high and not something you get for "disciplining kids" but a lot worse than that.similar to what you might expent for manslaughter or drug trafficking. In short for SERIOUS crime
Many allegations were made, they were tried in court and found guilty so we can only assume the allegations were "proven".
We cannot know whether they wanted to overdose them or not as no details were provided. One wonders why a young child was in so much pain in the first place to require a morphine prescription or if indeed the morphine was prescribed and for whom. I am guessing morphine was prescribed for the mother with the broken arm but who knows. One wonders how the arm was broken.Whatever the case whether they wanted to or not they did and that is criminal negligence at the very least. we are told that the kids had scars and the father dangled one by their feet over the stairwell. Why?

We also know that they had several visits from Social services so this was not a single event but a pattern of consistent abuse over a long period.
Many Social teams are made up black people and I am black myself.I do not recognize any culture that allows for this sort of treatment for children so the issue of "cultural differences" is nonsense. Are they the first or only Nigerians to raise kids in the UK.Why are they having 6 kids if indeed they are so poor.Did the initial Social services visits not alert them that things could eventually turn out as they now have; losing the kids and prison?

We cannot ignore neither the fact that they were "Churchgoers" and "Christians" nor the claim that they accused their children of being possessed. Now that is one aspect of culture I recognize. THE NIGERIAN CHURCH CULTURE,THE AFRICAN CHURCH CULTURE that buys in to tales of Jesus casting out evil spirits and similar bizarre fantasies. It is quite common to hear of brutal beatings to exorcise demons. This is a culture that should be seen for what it is; Institutionalized foolishness. When parents are captive to such delusions,as it seems to be here, they are often unrepentant and persistent in their bestial behaviour and should be dealt with by the law firmly. We should not provide alibis for their inexcusable behaviour in the name of "cultural differences" or is it cultural defence
Of course it's a big sentence, I personally believe its a ridiculous sentence and they should appeal for a sensible judge to pass sensible judgement. I don't know much but simply going from what is in the article random claims were thrown together to get them convicted. 'my mommy beats me when I don't clean the house?' before nko are they supposed to pet you for not cleaning the house?
I don't subscribe to beating children at all, but if i were a social worker in this case I probably will have the kids taken into care for the simple fact that it sounds as if the parents have too much on their hands.
If they were intentionally trying to kill the children now I will understand a 7 year sentence. cmon, whooping with a wire, that is done- there aren't many 1980s babies over here that cannot say they were whooped with a wooden omorogun, wire, slippers, hanger (my own mothers personal favorite) boy i had a friend that was thrown down the stairs. Again this is abuse- but not with an intent to harm or kill. Its a simple matter of cultural differences, they should be advised it is dangerous to the kids and against the law and cautioned. God if the social paid attention to most of us we will all be in care!
This will never happen in east london, most of the social workers are from the same background, nobody will answer you even if you say they used horse shoes to beat you and showed the marks on your head. Never mind me i'm just jealous, where were these people when my own mother beat the shit out of my yansh? lol

This country works differently from others i'm afraid, everybody has the right to have as many children as they like no matter what they earn. Of course it's not the most sensible thing to do but that is why the gov.t offers support. They encourage family values- in this case the parents cannot cope and it could have easily been with one child. I've never heard of children starving in this country where food is cheap, for that alone they should have the kids taken away- but a 7 year sentence is bloody far fetched.

I do not advocate any sort of beating, so don't get my post wrong. Neither am I defending the voodoo claims. I'm just saying 7 years is a waste of prison space. take the kids and deport them but 7 years in prison is ridiculous. cmon!

Ikengawo: https://www.thedailygreen.com/cm/thedailygreen/images/P7/diy-home-energy2-lg.jpg
look at the typical american home compared to the typical nigerian one. I can tell you it's cheaper to build the home above then your average lower income working class nigerian one because the americans build smarter

An american home is made of plastic, paper, wood, what is essentially chalk and nails.
the entire thing. For novelty they'll use brick to make it have a particular look, but the bricks are small, palm sized and cheap unlike the nigerian bricks which are giant, expensive (for a brick) and damn near impossible to move around without straining yourself.
https://hostedmedia.reimanpub.com/TFH/Step-By-Step/FH04MAR_STONPA_21.JPG
the american brick can fit in one hand.

And i dont know why nigeria uses such ridiculous bricks because you have to use more sand and less cement to produce several that are that size. and factories can't produce them cause they're hard to transport.

the same dumb building goes into nigerian roofs. The American roof is paper tar and sand. That's it. How can weather destroy sand? which sand in front of your house has been destroyed before? Use common sense

Nigerians build homes like they're preparing for a train to run through them. In all reality you don't need such a bulky reinforced home. What what? so that it can echo? boko haram?

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/18/Zakopane-schronisko-2.jpg/310px-Zakopane-schronisko-2.jpg
This is an american roof. It can endure more weather then what nigeria has ever experienced. It can go through hail, rain, sleet, snow, thunder, extreme cold, extreme heat, hurricane, tornado, etc because america gets all of that weather.

You don't need ugly sheet metal roofs that are expensive anyways. Wht not build the same thing out of plastic? what has your roof endured that plastic won't tolerate? rain?

the japanese build homes out of paper and there's no weather they endure that we don't. Did our ancestors not build roofs out of grass?
I'm not sure the homes in the US and the uk aren't built a particular way to conserve heat? That will definitely be a bad idea in Nigeria. But what you said about the bricks make alot of sense! Not actually a bad business idea too- green homes, save cash, save the earth make lots of money! lol
FashionRe: Omotola Vs Genevieve: Who Wore It Better? by queensmith: 8:39am On Aug 16, 2012
For the first time genny actually does ok with her dressing! The simplicity works, the dress is flashy it doeasn't need additional jewelry tola!and the shoes, I prefer gennys shoes even though I think they both made bad choices. Silver sandals will do the dress fiery justice!

I also think they both could have rocked it better without the obvious synthetic looking hair pieces, this dress needs a nice tight bun.
FamilyRe: Spanking Your Child In Public by queensmith: 8:34am On Aug 16, 2012
Culturally we are insensitive to young people. we refuse to understand that even children have feelings and can feel humiliated. It's wrong to humiliate your child like that and you even embarrass yourself in the process.
Things are changing now sha, apparently you can even call social in Nigeria for parents abusing their kids. I overheard a teacher saying she's going to call the police on a parent for abusing the child. I'm glad to see things moving forward.
CrimeRe: Nigerian Coupled Jailed For Beating Their Kids In The UK by queensmith: 8:22am On Aug 16, 2012
Hmm the kids mentioned housework, erm who do they expect to do the housework for them? And the house is dirty and disheveled? erm of course since it seems nobody wants to do any housework.

and i doubt the parents meant to overdose their children, that was probably just ignorance. .that probably still counts as neglect im not sure how the legal term is thrown about.

and the corrie star said she felt sorry for them, i believe this is because they are poor and not necessarily because she thought the children were being abused.

I believe the parents to some extent, the situation could have been exaggerated if the social teams didn't want to acknowledge cultural differences. To them that will seem like an obvious plot to take the kids away.

Regardless beating your children is against the law, I am sure they knew that. Kids are as smart as they are spiteful, what might have been done in spite has now turned into the parents seeing 14 years of prison time. Next lifetime they will know not to be popping children like animals.
FamilyRe: by queensmith: 4:33pm On Aug 15, 2012
ronkebp: And also ask youself what is the rationale behind a girl of 13 saying she wants to wear "a low-cut top" or a "mini skirt". Why does she want to dress in such manner? when she can conveniently wear clothes that can cover her private-parts well.
when you start to have kids, your thoughts would be about "protecting" them and not exposing them to vultures and lions, who will profess unnecessary affection or love to them because of their looks and the fact that they want a piece of the pie.
So what you are saying is we should take pedophiles into consideration when dressing our female children? . . . . . .. . . WOW!
FamilyRe: by queensmith: 4:18pm On Aug 15, 2012
at a point, you really have to sit down and ask yourselves questions about any culture or religion. Its ridiculous to excuse anything by saying 'that is how it's done' and to negatively label what should be common sense as 'western' and use this as an excuse to remain primitive.

Why exactly are the girls told to cover up? what is the rationale behind it? Its nothing to do with decency, the women fear losing their husbands to young females and the men want to excuse not being able to control themselves.
Since the mentality is already being carried that women are weak we continue with this sort of thinking, you are supposed to stop and reason with yourself- if my daughter wants to wear a low cut top why should i stop her? If my daughter has beautiful legs and wants to show it who am I to say she can't? Why cant she show off her banging figure with tight dress she used her money to buy? Who dares to dictate to her what she should do with her own body? How exactly does her dressing harm anybody?
FamilyRe: by queensmith: 12:38pm On Aug 15, 2012
jay bee: Shouldn't provocative dressing be discouraged especially among the youth?
not when we are intentionally labeling certain dressing as provocative down to what the male thinks. My child may like what she is wearing, provocative or not. Just because a man doesn't want to control himself I should discourage her from wearing it? Thats nonsense talk.
