THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ogbonna Onovo, has cast doubt on the reported brief return to the country by the former chairman of the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.


Mr. Ribadu was said to have paid a condolence visit to the late Gani Fawehinmi’s family in Lagos, recently. The police boss said this on Thursday, in Lagos, during his official visit and commissioning of project and equipment at police formations in the state.


The IGP decried the proliferation of explosives in the country, saying that they were meant for the mining industry, but were finding their way into wrong hands.


Onovo, while reacting to a question from newsmen why the Intelligence Unit of the Nigeria Police was unable to track down the former EFCC boss, stated that it was very surprising to him that no newspaper or media house could get Ribadu’s photograph during the reported visit.


He said: “ I do not believe that Ribadu came to Nigeria. Why was his photograph not taken? It will be very surprising that his photograph was not taken.”


Speaking on the spate of kidnapping incidents in the South-East, Onovo stated that 16 mobile police units had been drafted to the South-Eastern states of the the country as part of the efforts to curtail the activities of kidnappers in the area.


He said that a bill to ensure proper documentation of information on the people buying telecommunications GSM SIM cards in Nigeria was with the National Assembly.


The IG stated that apart from telecommunications providers, banks could also help the police in the fight against kidnapping by providing marked money for ransom.


Onovo, who commissioned over 30 vehicles at the Bomb Disposal Unit and at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, commended both police formations for living up to expectations.


He said that the anti-bomb unit of the Nigeria Police was very dear to him, as the unit was very important in crisis management and prevention, as shown during the last Boko Haram crisis in the northern part of Nigeria.


The police boss stated that he ordered the withdrawal of policemen and women attached to people not qualified to enjoy the privilege, when he noticed that many of them were being used for unethical purposes.


He said unscrupulous police officers would no longer have a place in the force. Onovo disclosed that a three-point agenda, — capacity building, adequate welfare package and intelligence-led policing — was being put in place to ensure that the Nigeria Police competed favourably with other police in the world.


But he said he would not jettison all the policies of his predecessors and would sustain the relevant ones. However, while reacting to the claim of the IGP that Mallam Ribadu did not visit the country, Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, told the Nigerian Tribune that the IG was being economical with the truth, emphasising that he accompanied Ribadu when he visited the residence of Gani and the hospital.


He advised Onovo to check with the Area Command, Area F of the Lagos Police Command, to be properly briefed on the visit of the former EFCC boss to the places.


“I am sure that the IG was not properly briefed. I accompanied Ribadu to the residence of Gani. I was physically present, when he held a meeting with the family for about 25 minutes.


“I also accompanied him, when he went to the hospital where he spent about 15 minutes to pay his last respect to Gani. “The IG can confirm from Commander of Area F, which is the next building to the Ikeja General Hospital. Ribadu’s presence even caused commotion at the hospital,” Falana asserted.


According to him, the security agencies made frantic moves to fish Ribadu out, as soon they got wind of his sudden presence in the country. This, he stated, they did by combing the nooks and crannies of the country, even his home state, Adamawa, without locating him.

Falana added, “As soon as the government got to know that he was in the country, all security agencies were mobilised to look for him in a small village, in Yola, Adamawa State.”

I am a christian, since Daddy Go is not here let me talk to them the way they are insulting my Pastor. A housewife has narrated how she was raped and infected with syphilis by a pastor with the Bishop David Oyedepo-led Winners Chapel in Lagos.

Narrating her ordeal at the Alimosho customary court in Lagos during a divorce proceeding, the victim, Mrs. Bisola Ogunlana who resides at Block 48, Flat 3, Abesan Housing Estate, Lagos, said the accused whom she identified as Pastor Aranilewa Abayomi, tore her clothes and pants and forcefully had sex with her in his apartment in the same estate.

Mrs. Ogunlana, a respondent in the divorce suit filed by her husband, Mr. Olusanya Ogunlana, said the pastor who lives in the same estate with her, approached her late last year after she graduated from the university and promised to secure her a job.

The Mass Communication graduate of Covenant University, Otta, Ogun State, explained that she gave him her curriculum vitae, adding that shortly after that, the pastor started calling her on phone and making love advances to her.

Mrs. Ogunlana said she received a text message from the pastor on 3 January (the first Sunday of January) this year, inviting her to his house to discuss the job he promised her.

The mother of three narrated further that since she did not go to church that Sunday with her husband, she decided to honour the pastor’s invitation.

She explained that on getting to the pastor’s house, he told her everything he had done to get her a job and she was pleased.

The pastor who was alone at home since his wife and children had gone to the church, thereafter started making moves to have sex with her.

According to her, she resisted the attempt to lure her into sex and when the pastor saw that she was not yielding, he forcefully tore her clothes and pants and had sex with her.

“When I got to his house, I met only him at home. His wife and children had left for church. He explained what he had done for me concerning the job he was helping me with. Shortly after, he made some moves to lure me into having sex with him but I refused. He roughened me up, tore my pant and raped me. He also infected me,” she narrated in tears in court.

The act blew into the open when Mr. Ogunlana found his wife at an obscure place making phone calls.

He said he moved closer and overheard his wife telling the person to find solution to the problem he had caused her and that if he failed, the whole estate would hear what he did. He said his wife ended the conversation by calling the fellow a ‘useless old man’.

Ogunlana said after eavesdropping, he went back home unnoticed and waited for his wife. When she arrived, he confronted her with what he had heard and she denied it.

After much pressure, she confessed to her husband that she was raped by the pastor living next door.

Infuriated, Ogunlana said he went to the pastor’s house and confronted him with the allegation. The pastor, he disclosed, “admitted having sex with my wife, but denied raping her.”

To show that he did not rape her, the pastor, he narrated further, showed him some text messages he received from his (Ogunlana) wife.

The text messages, he said, showed that his wife and the pastor had been having extra marital relationship before the alleged rape incident.

Ogunlana explained further that the pastor later apologised to him with the help of others in the estate not to expose the sordid affair.

He said he was in court to seek the dissolution of his marriage to Bisola because he believed that she was still dating the pastor.

The matter has been adjourned till 14 September for continuation of hearing

The Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel shocked everbody in church at the weekend when he asked God to deal with all his assumed enemies.

P.M.News reliably gathered that the embittered governor last Saturday at the Redeemed Church of God, Peculiar People’s Parish, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, took the microphone from the pastor and openly called on God to destroy his enemies.

Daniel, who openly declared war at the wedding thanksgiving of the Lisa of Egbaland, Chief Bisi McGregor’s daughter, took offence at the Zonal Pastor of the church’s prayer that God should intercede immediately in the crisis in the state and engender the return of peace and harmony.

Reacting to Pastor Kuyooro’s prayer after he had taken the microphone from him, the governor insisted that there was no crisis in Ogun State, that it was only a group of people that want to turn the state upside-down and make it ungovernable for him.

At that point, Daniel told the congregation to rise and close their eyes, as he was going to render a fresh prayer against Pastor Kuyooro’s, which he condemned as being improper.

The governor, a son of an Archbishop in the Aladura sect, then prayed thus: “Oh Lord! Those who are standing in the way of the progress of this state, remove them.

“Those who want me to share the money of Ogun State with them, father destroy them, Holy Ghost fire fall on them.

“Father God! Those who want to assume power by all means through the back door, let them fail woefully. Heavenly father expose and disgrace them. Let all of them, including those behind them be put to everlasting shame….”

The entire congregation, including the Assistant Provincial Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church, Abeokuta, Pastor Abiodun and Chief McGregor’s in-laws from Edo State, openly expressed their shock at the governor’s reaction inside the church.

On the entourage of the governor were: Chief Yomi Majekodunmi (Chief of Staff), Akogun Kola Onadipe (Commissioner for Water Resource and Solid Minerals), Are Tunde Alabi (Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Chief Kola Sorinola (Commissioner for Special Duties) Chief Joju Fadairo (Ogun P.D.P Chairman) who came with his wife and Aremo Taiwo Alimi (Chairman, Gateway Television Board).

Others were: Prince Jacob Akindehin (Special Adviser on Road Development), Arch. Kayode Adebayo (Special Adviser on Urban and Physical Planning) and Comrade Wole Oduntan (Consultant on Labour Matters).

On that Saturday night, Governor Daniel shifted his spiritual warfare to the annual Tarborrah hosted by Archbishop Ositelu at Ogere Remo, where he continued his call on the Holy Ghost fire to consume his detractors.

He arrived at about 9p.m. with his wife, Yeye Olufunke and prayed till 3a.m., (Sunday morning), when he departed with his convoy.

Erastus Akingbola, the sacked boss of Intercontinental Bank Plc, has defied the order of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to report to its office in Abuja.

Akingbola is one of the five managing directors of banks the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Sanusi Lamido sacked last week Friday over sharp practices in their banks that have resulted in unpaid debts running into hundreds of billions of naira.

Rather than honour EFCC’s invitation, Akingbola is said to have stayed back in London where he was believed to have sneaked to last Friday when he got wind of his impending sack,

A close aide of the top banker confided in P.M. News that Akingbola left the country for the United Kingdom in the evening of last Friday before the news of his sack could spread to the public domain.

He managed to escape being intercepted by security agents who apparently, at the time, were not unaware of his travails.

Since his sack last week, the embattled banker has not been seen at his residence in Lagos, fuelling speculations that he stayed back in London to avoid being arrested.

Before the banking shake-up last Friday, P.M.News gathered that Akingbola had planned to attend the wedding of his cousin in London. So, when the bubble burst, and he got wind of his sack, he decided to stay back in the UK.

There are indications that he may not return to Nigeria soon in view of the axe that is dangling over his head.

It was gathered that even if he decides to leave London, his next port of call may be Ghana where he owns a mansion and frequently visited while he called the shots at Intercontinental Bank.

The EFCC has already declared wanted Akingbola along with other sacked bank CEOs and directors yet to report to the anti-graft agency, but the erstwhile Intercontinental boss has gone to court to challenge his sack by the CBN.

Pastors Storm Maharajji’s Camp For Spiritual Protection

At least seven pastors and three evangelists from different churches in Nigeria were sighted at this year’s world conference of ‘One Love Family’ of Satguru Maharajji last Saturday at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos scrambling for spiritual protection.

While some of them willingly wished to be seen, others preferred to remain anonymous.

Among those who openly identified with the sect werePastor Adebakin Akingbote of CAC, Monatan, Ibadan and Pastor Asuquo Nya who travelled from Oku-Iboku, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The 53-year old pastor and father of 13 children from Akwa Ibom told P.M.News that he was in the camp to renew his spiritual protection and “there is no more need for me hiding under a finger”.

In his words: “I was a parish pastor of the 7th Day Adventist Church, Uduan, Akwa Ibom State. I was baptised in 1987.

“After I left the Seventh Day Adventist, I established my own church, Living Word Deliverance Mission, Afaha Ikot Udum Parish.

“I suffered too much spiritual attack and I would have been conquered by it if I had not rushed here to meet Maharajji for deliverance,” he narrated.

I first received a tract from my friend, Ifembe. After receiving the tract, I put some into practice. Surprisingly, I could meet face-to-face with the Living Perfect Master. So, I had to travel from my state to meet the holy man in Lagos.

“As to some of my colleagues still in Christianity, I advise them to have a rethink,” he advised.

i think what the pastor did was wrong . Bible says that anybody that marries a divorcee committed adultery with the person. So the pastor has exposed his first wife to adultery and also his second wife is an adulterer for marring him.

Stop saying the Bible said a thing without giving the exact quotation! Read 1st Cor.7 verses 15,,,,its been quoted here several times,,,,U don't pcik up an isolated portion of the Bible to give a general or sweeping conclussion.

For instance,, Deeper over the yrs has insisted having a T.V. set in ur house is a SIN,,,,but in a couple of days, the Deeper Life Church would be launching a satelite T.V. station.Now the question is; how do deeper life wants people to view the messages on the Satelite T.V. station?Some people had argued this in the church, and they left the church because they felt it doesn't make sense! But today the church is launching its T.V. station!

I have nothing against RCCG. Blimey, I used to go there back in Nigeria and have good friends there up till now. The issue at hand (for me as a person) is not about the church per say, my question remains why the wait for 2 years. Certainly the church knew about this.
Why can't the pastor remarry or is the pastor a celebate? Who are we to judge?
What prove have you to show that he knew about this "rule" and if he did, why did the church wait that long?
All the similarities you are trying to bring in are off target.
- Your friend's father married two wives (polygamy)- whereas the pastor has only one (remarried)
- Your friend cheated in 100 level but got caught 4 years later- whereas the pastor got married in the church, officiated and blessed by the church. Never mind the fact that he remained a pastor in the church for 2 years afterwards.

They simply don't care about the scandals because Nigerians re becoming ever increasingly gullible!!! Maybe I sholuld break it down for you. A church is not an ordinary setup (such as school etc). It is a place of worship and where morality is next to spirituality (some may even argue that Morality is spirituality in action). If he broke this rule, why wait for 2 years to act?
