seborrhic:Spot on. You are well informed. The new regime of high tech doping counter measures can remove traces within days so the authorities seek to catch them on a lam. It is now a game of cat and mouse. |
otokx:Honestly the optics are not good. It is almost like a student having a reason for missing term papers. One... okay, two.... hmm, three.... what's happening.... yet she shows up for the competitions.... Just hope she is right. |
lolu2019:Over recent years pro athletics has become a closed cycle profession like other high profile sports whereby sportsmen are never really 'free'. This was due to the high technology doping assumed with designer drugs impacting on performances long after administration. So WADA decided on a more or less year round testing regime to ensure athletes are clean whether in or out of competition. So there are more or less two, even three testing regimes out there. Performance testing, that is testing of athletes that win races, break records, etc. General competition testing that accompanies meets (during and after specific meets and tournaments) and out of competition testing which the authorities try to make as random and unpredictable as possible so that bad athletes are not able to organise the chemistry of their bodies to mask drug taking. So they require athletes to inform them of their schedules more or less round the year. It has been a bone of contention but hey, athletics is now a fully professional sport. An athlete no longer wholly owns his body or time for that matter. Just like soccer clubs and football federations own the player during the season and control a lot happening in their lives. |
9gerian:That is eh. Playing around with your bread and butter.... ![]() |
Opari.... ![]() This is exactly what I was warning about just a couple of days ago...... athletics.... and cycling.... the two leprous hands of sports. I just do not know what kind of temptations these track and field people face that they cannot be rid of the smell of PED's. Just hope it is the indiscretion of schedules as she says and not the real deal. But any suspicion is bound to chase sponsorship and endorsements away. God help her. |
The funny thing is that there are carpenters and craftsmen sitting idle and waiting for furniture jobs to do.....many of them. There are timber merchants and fabricating material merchants complaining of low sales..... many of them. All it takes is for a responsible, intellectual government to sit all parties around a table to work out a deal where demand meets supply to create wealth and build capacity. The United States did exactly that in the 1930's to work its way out of the Great Depression to become a financial and economic behemoth. Our leaders here are completely bereft of ideas on how to drive development and the followers are hardly better. |
At the very least credit must go to him for listening unlike his predecessor. But once again all the rumpus is unnecessary if the nation had a functional Legislature. Nigerians must wake up to realize the importance of their participation in government through their representatives and ensure the Executive has no hand whatsoever in their selection, appointment and the way it is run. The current power equation is too skewed in favour of the President led Executive which is not democracy at best. |
CodeTemplar:Hmmm.... okay, we are all ears... we love stories. |
11 pages and government propagandists are yet to hit the discourse. Are they stuck at the gas stations.... ![]() Elections is easy... governance is another matter... |
The man should be arrested and prosecuted. |
VeeVeeMyLuv:The dollar is not an animate object. It has no feelings. It is a medium of transaction and its value reflects those that use it. If you don't use it or cultivate plenty of it, it will lose value. If you need it to breathe, eat and piss then it will dictate your life. If you grow catfish you will hate eating it. It will absolutely disgust you. |
Okealaaye:That is all you folks know, violence, crackdown, arrest, dismiss, etc while other nations run on ideas, innovation and competence. When they were given licenses wily nily what did they think will happen..... Of course the fuel importers will invade the foreign exchange market with devastating effect and the surge in the dollar is cycling back to raise prices of their offerings. |
I hope folks will not begin to break into parked cars to steal fuel. |
None of my business. Said enough. |
Depriest2020:This is where governance falls flat, the inability to break the cycle by removing the tumor, so the cancer is most likely to remain. Law and Order is always behind the curve in Nigeria. Get to the root of the matter, arrest even if it is just one person, slam a thirty year jail term for economic sabotage and watch how they will rat out the rest and the place will be sanitized by judicial precedence..... but no, they will not. |
Nigerians are experts at irrelevant things. Things that don't contribute a farthing to their quality of life. See what people are discussing while their country regresses. |
Plenty pomp and pagentry, but poor performance. Where the military plays second fiddle to Tompolo, the Prigozhin of the Niger-Delta. |
Pls steer clear of PED's. Track and Field athletes have not prospered the way they should because of this modern day plague. |
Of course the EU has to speak up against the kind of bad governance and institutional failure that leads to the evisceration of Africa and the carnage the passage of hapless citizens fleeing to Europe has come to be. Of course they have to speak up when bodies of African men and women wash up on their shores from capsized dinghies and sunk, dilapidated boats fleeing the effects of failed governments, autocracy and manic leaders. |
But as the ranking legislator from that zone what have you done or are you doing to handle the issue. Because you are supposed to REPRESENT THE PEOPLE BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT, to take their concerns to government, not taking the position of government to the people. The Executive is doing that already in its daily sermons against the sit at home. The Legislator is supposed to reflect the situation on ground, the 'why' it is happening and the 'how' the situation can be ended when he sits with the rest of his colleagues in deliberations. But it appears the representatives of the East almost to the last man conveniently avoids the situation. I mean how will anyone from that region be talking about anything but the South East Question. Nothing else should be meaningful to them, not sports, not Jamb, not border control, not fuel subsidy, nothing else but the challenges in that region. Sorry, Mr Kalu but the meetings you should be holding on this matter should be in Abuja not in Lagos. |
When this nation was serially warned about borrowing and the consequences on the economy some forum economic experts said it did not matter. That all nations borrowed and compared our debts to that of G20 countries. Well today, we barely have enough revenue to run the economy while G20 countries are powering out of their own challenges and gradually lowering inflation. Today, having misled their pet government they are here and unashamedly at it again, talking about things they know little about just to sound politically correct and fan the embers of their incendiary sentiment. Just look at the economy they have crafted. So where has all the borrowings gone, where is the productivity it has generated, where are the jobs it created, where are the businesses it established....because when you invest you should be able to reap in hard times. That is what borrowings abroad does to their economies, it pulls them out of difficult spots or it creates a bulwark ahead of difficult times to come. |
But the gymnasium too can help by installing powerful equipment to ventilate, dehumidify and sanitize their facilities. A gym by nature is not a 'bed of roses'... ![]() |
Funny country. Asking the question when the interview is over. Nigeria's own kind of democracy is by the government and for the government. As far as the citizens are concerned they visit the restaurant but cannot order anything because there are no waiters. They pick whatever is placed on the table. Once again I ask. Who decided that the palliatives be cash handouts. Who decided that 500 billion be made available. Who decided that 8,000 be paid out. Who decided the program will run for 6 months. Because these are the questions almost everyone is asking AFTER THE FACT, in the non participatory democracy we run here where the Legislature which is supposed to be the eyes, ears and mouth of the people appear to be blind, deaf and dumb in all situations that concern the people. Theirs is just to nod like invalids. Covid 19 was a clear case of how all nations handled issues like this and I could remember vividly how palliatives were a long running issue of debate in Congress. I will not even speak about the UK parliament where that issue still reverberates till today and folks there are still giving account to the British citizens. |
delpee:The antidote to this is grassroot involvement through regular citizen led townhalls (not government led and sponsored meetings) where these issues are examined and solutions found. It is an acid test for governance for as soon as people gather to deliberate on the quality of service they get, they are likely to experience an almost immediate push back which will indicate where the problem lies, just like our local vulcanizers pump a tire and run fluid over it to discover leaks, One of the big problem in all of Nigeria as pertaining to governance is the general lack of knowledge as to how government works and how to get a particular government to work for the citizens. Almost everything government does from the first to the last day in office has little or no citizen input. They alone decide taxation but will never disclose how much they collect in detail. They alone decide on what money is spent but will never give detailed account. They alone decide who is engaged, employed to service the citizens in one way or the other but will never disclose the criteria for appointment or selection. The average citizen is made virtually useless in anything concerning how he is governed. He cannot decide for instance which road he wants repaired as his priority, he cannot decide whether he prefers his child at school given free textbooks instead of free meals, he cannot decide practically anything about the quality of his life within any governing structure. These are things taken for granted in other climes where democracy thrives. There it is pure, tailor made service in return for votes. And the people watch as such service and interact with their politicians on a daily basis. They monitor the quality of service doggedly. We have a long way to go in Nigeria. PS: Like the ongoing ruse about the proposed palliatives. Who agreed to the cash handout. Who agreed to the 500 billion. Who agreed to the 8,000. Who agreed to the 6 months. These are the details that show and prove it is not a citizen led democracy at all. And it starts with citizen advocacy failure at the grassroots. Nigeria is a restaurant where no customer orders anything. You just walk in an eat whatever they prepare and lay on the table. Sounds more like a mess hall or a grade school canteen. |
Adesina18111:Because like most of Nigeria the politicians at all levels are not answerable to the people. They owe their allegiance elsewhere so performance is not the ultimate objective and not the determinant of political survival or otherwise. I really don't see how Nigeria can become like other nations we admire without social conflict. We must come to a point where we realise that nothing can be achieved without a class fight. There is just no way to uproot the feudal nature of black african leadership systems to get to the point where the political class respects and fears the people they lead. Our leaders are too comfortable and so often progress in error. |
Lagos is a one party state. There is nothing to shake up the tree of corruption. Governance there is not competitive. Democracy does not exist. |
INTEGRITYA1:Nigerians should be enlightened enough to know that at this time of the year power supply always appears to be better which is primarily due to the climate. The rainy season lowers the air temperature and so people use their air conditioners and refrigerators less which are the main power blocks in any typical dwelling or office space. The other side of the rainy season is the frequent but random equipment failure due to wind, lightning, falling trees and vehicular collisions with installations leading to more power available to unaffected areas. December into March is the acid test for power stability. |
Sapiosexuality:Without querying how effective that program was at alleviating poverty. Till date I don't think a report has reached the National Assembly as a back check on to how much was spent in the 8 years on all manner of social interventions and the positive statistics to indicate this is the best way to alleviate the economic challenges of the average Nigerian and cause him to transit to productivity. |
No comment abeg. We deserve the leaders we get. When a people elect leaders they cannot control they will be spoon fed whatever. Nigerians today cannot decide how their country is run because they don't know and don't care to know how other countries found their own prosperity so they believe everything fed them. I don't think we Nigerians should be thinking about development until we educate ourselves as to what democracy is all about. Can you imagine a Legislature will just approve an issue as critical as this without any consideration as to what the Executive is doing, what the implications are and critique how effective the program will be. No discussion, no debate, no alternative ideas , no guarantees, nothing. Just approve whatever, simply because the people don't care. They are busy dividing themselves along sentimental fault lines. Why should a government decide to spend such an amount the way it likes. PS: To the National Assembly. Have they done a back check to determine the effectiveness of all the palliatives their predecessors approved in the last government before jumping into the same pond. Where is the data they used in determining this as the best course of action. Abeg, Nigeria matter is just..... |
Bayelsa State. A state that receives enough funding from the Federal Government to build a refinery each governing term to make it the oil and gas and energy hub of the west coast. But no vision, no enlightenment, no leadership, and no hope. The true tragedy is that time is ticking. For the gravy train of hydrocarbons is slowly pulling away from the world stage and when oil ceases to be the primary go to source of global energy that place will be left like a waste land with all the pollution but none of the sustainable investments. Then the real problem will come. Can people of vision stand up to be counted by a people ready to sacrifice their today for tomorrow. |
