Brendaniel:Bad leadership in Africa, you and I know is endemic. It has its roots deeply embeded in our culture and way of life. Two, the wounds of colonisation are still fresh, Africa is a young post colonial continent that will remain wary of foreign, mainly western incursions and influences. In a nutshell, Africa has not positioned itself and not indicated anyway that it is in trouble and needs help. On the Ghadaffi issue (once again information is key here). America moved against him simply because of the Lockerbie terror attack that he Ghadaffi admitted was organised and sponsored by his government and his refusal to handover the mastermind to Interpol after several attempts through the UN for him to do so. The demise of his government was also hastened by internal conflicts triggered by his meddling in the affairs of neighbouring states which hosted several rebel groups. No foreign troops were involved in his demise. The only thing the UN did was impose a no-fly zone. And with out an Air force his Army could not resist rebel invasion. |
Brendaniel:Do you know that in 1939 under the Lend/Lease Act the United States under President Roosevelt sent weapons to the Soviet Union to help bolster its Army under threat from Nazi Germany though they had not formally entered the war themselves. Do you know those tanks and aircraft sent by America formed the foundation of the great Soviet Cavalry and Airforce of later years and bought Stalin precious time to re arm and prepare ahead of the Nazi invasion in 1941. Do you know that under that same act arms were sent to China to combat Imperial Japan and Britain to aid its war effort before the British could rally to join the Chinese is liberating their country. THHE SAME ACT of Congress, signed by Teddy Roosevelt. If America had not done so, do you know what the world will be today? The Russia that is a super power today, the China that is a super power today. If Ukraine survives as a country and becomes a superpower tomorrow your generation after you that shares your DNA will say the same thing. That America is hypocritical in helping and defending the smaller, weaker guy against oppression and captivity. But they understand. That no matter what they do or have done in history, they will remain the most hated country on earth. But your type will never break their spirit as champions of liberty everywhere in the world. I will advice your likes and a whole host of ignorant, misinformed on this forum to read history before coming here with senseless diatribes. |
SmartGadgetz:No where is 'far away from war'. There is a reason sensible make it the very last resort. This is not 1945. The world today is severely more interlocked. |
kingthreat:They got United Nations approval. |
HitSong:Mexico had good relations with the Soviet Union in the 60'sand 70's. Read your history. In the latter years when Communism ebbed in Mexico the country became a strong member of the non aligned nations. It was only after the collapse of the Soviet Union did Mexico begin to cosy up to the US. Latin America in the backyard of the US had several Communist led governments in the 60's, 70's and 80's. with both the United States and Soviet Union taking turns to exert influence through popular revolutionary uprisings. |
Techsupport:Wheat is not a tropical crop. Even the highly genetically modified varieties adapted to warmer conditions struggles to yield in these parts.Very few countries have the geographical latitude to cultivate every staple or every cash crop out there. If I remember my geography right, I think it is only the United States that has both tropical and temperate climates suitable for everything from wheat in the north and middle, palm in the south and citruses in sunny California. No country is self sufficient in everything. What nations do is to dominate where they have comparative advantage and use those gains to subsidise imports. Why are we not dominating where we are naturally endowed? |
Trust our folks to milk this epic drama in the coming weeks... New Gen Pastors: '.... may you not Kepa at the point of your breakthrough.....' Motivational hawks: '.... don't become a leper because of your Kepa....' Desperate Politicians in the run up to 2023: '....I can assure you my government will never Kepa with your votes....' |
Help2020:Oga the world has moved beyond all that. Both nations have ballistic missile submarines patrolling the globe in stealth constantly. The Russians are often in the Atlantic just outside the maritime border of the US and the US/NATO in the Black Sea correspondingly. With the exception of tactical nukes, you don't need proximity in today's strategic chess board. |
complexBoss12:His country does not want to join the Soviet Union. What is so hard to understand about that. |
Inspirer1:Exactly. Sensible Nigerians should allow them elect themselves. |
I usually do not like commenting on personalities around the next general elections being a stickler for issues, programs and visions.... but on this one, I will say this.... There is absolutely nothing Jonathan is bringing to this country going forward that is worth such a terrible decision. To me it is just an affront to the institutions of democracy, the state of the nation and the peoples who voted him out in 2015. For heavens sake this man lost, and lost for good reasons. Why take sure a huge risk with bringing him back with all the baggage of his regime. Why are we always so fixated with the personal ambitions of these politicians as a people often at the expense of the nation at large. What is Mr. Jonathan coming to do in Aso Rock. This is just so annoying. Can we just find solutions to our collective problems and move forward please. What a mess. We need to wipe the slate clean, get someone completely different in there, with the key skills and competencies first to face the challenges of our time and then evolve a new nation by its restructuring along lines of equity, solidarity and justice. Why tinker with the past. |
anochuko01:That is why it is one of the toughest leagues in the world. The dominating era of United triggered a wave of anti-football advances making domination so much harder. Managers hardly have the time to build winning systems before they are dismantled by opposing teams. In those days a squad can be kept for upwards of three years at the very top but these days it is not uncommon for top teams to change four and five key players a season. Imagine the likes of Jesus in City and Firminio in Pool, players that will spend entire careers at one club already spent and considered surplus while still at their peak. The requirements especially in the Premiership are just too hard and i am so sorry to see a quality manager like Marcelo leave in my opinion.... too soon. But it is the beast.... and we love it. |
Macphenson:Hahaha.... indeed. We did say by the end of the regime, everyone will be completely demystified. Every single excuse has been stripped from the government and governing party. Every single campaign rhetoric has come full circle to stare them in the face. |
Bobbyjay001:Hmmm.... There was an earthquake off the coast of Japan a few years ago. It wasn't the earthquake that was worrisome, but the tidal wave that came ashore hundreds of kilometres and hours later. Things that happen far off can have consequences closer to home. But there is another side of the story. The same tidal wave that crippled a nuclear power plant and contaminated the surrounding towns was the same that redistributed topsoil and fertilized farm lands in other parts way off. The story sometimes is never the key. It is the details, the facts, the 'why' and 'how' that is the key to knowledge. The deeper you explain, the greater the tendency for attention to be gained. If i told you that some folks have made hundreds of thousands of dollars since the beginning of this month because of this war, will you believe that?, while other will lose their entire fortunes and perhaps their lives if they do not know what is going on and take the necessary measures to avert it. It all depends on where they stand and more importantly, what they know..... news. |
Bobbyjay001:But everything you know 'someone' made known to you... by whatever means or media. So rather than keeping shut why not 'transmit' knowledge. That is why every news media both 'reports' and 'opnionates'. The reportage is to 'when' and 'where'. While the opinions is to 'why' and 'how', which is the trigger for further inquest. Believe you me if your colleagues get the reasons and implications 'indeed', most will totally engross themselves in it. 'Light' is unmistakable. |
pocohantas:Totally agree. And the bolded. Very unfortunate. |
greggng:Hahahaha..... ![]() Your work is cut out.... dat one na dead battery. But surely there must be something she is profoundly good at. Just might not tickle your fancy. |
lusid:Knowledge is relative. I am certain the OP's girlfriend 'knows' certain things he will never come to realize in his entire lifetime. The crucible of knowledge is curiosity. Where this engine of nature takes the individual remains a mystery. |
pocohantas: .... Totally agreeBut once again people fill their heads with the knowledge of things, places, people completely off their radar. I mean, what brought Mungo Park to 'discover' the source of the Niger... The summary is simple. People are just wired differently. I am not too sure their nature can all be described in bad light. And I am sure if the OP goes through every response and the debates in between he may have a change of perspective at the end. |
djseanjohn77:Hmmm... which is dangerous. But there is a clincher here... the first words of the para.... What if they do not need to travel to Ukraine... or Europe for that matter. How detailed is our knowledge of things that 'do not concern us'. |
pocohantas:Hmmm..... You see where this argument in general is going. That is why there is no single answer, neither is there a perfect position to take on this matter. Very interesting post that can be debated for weeks on end if one understands the underlying facts. |
Simran94:That is not standard procedure and you have right to demand standards. If he is not your family physician then you need to get one. |
venabili:Those things do not happen with the regularity of a gym visit. And for heavens sake you certainly cannot compare the allure of a healthy person and one which is not. |
rafcrown:The defective structure of Nigeria will GUARANTEE that a poor candidate is elected yet again. It is just appalling that 7, 8 years after we are saying the exact same thing. Do you know what 8 years in the life of a man is, especially in a region where life expectancy is severely limited.... by poor governance. Better realign your expectations and severely dampen them. Your fellow country men are not tired of suffering. |
greggng:Ah, ah....do you want to marry one of the top anchors in CNN, Sky or Aljazeera.... they are already hitched... ![]() Not absolutely necessary. |
Btruth:And if she could extend that knowledge into what she could do or be doing she would not only survive, but thrive and possibly excel despite the circumstances. People will die as a result of this conflict, most will be worse off around the world, few will become wealthy. The difference is knowledge. So there is a case for knowledge. |
alphaNomega:I totally agree. NOT EVERYONE, should be bothered. There are people completely introverted yet are totally competent. While there are others given to sticking their noses in every hole, yet are completely clueless. So which do we say is better. The uninformed or the misinformed.... I also totally agree that there are no biases here. Human nature evenly distributes the good, the bad and the ugly. |
ernnie457:Because very little positive happens here. Nigeria is a back water country. Even within Africa we are only known for ..... well disturbing stuff. PS. I am speaking about Nigeria, not Nigerians. |
DKM123:Don't be so hasty. I know a couple of cardiac surgeons here in Nigeria that I am CERTAIN will not have heard about this conflict or be interested until they possibly apply for a visa their next trip abroad. I will reply/extend this when I give them a call asap. Intellect has nothing to do with this. |
Techguy96:We are already under attack. Oil prices are up and that means everything you will be buying for the rest of the year may follow shortly. There is another reason why people do not want war. Only few get richer. |
Btruth:Perhaps.... because it has the potential to be a global conflict.... because it has shot up the price of oil... and because she may be paying more for living due to the inflationary effects that will shortly hit Nigeria.... |
Theevilone:But few things about Nigeria can affect global events but the other way round... .... you know, when the elephant sneezes.... so you can excuse her....How much do you know about Western Sahara....? a tiny enclave around Morocco that has been at war for like... forever.. |
