mrvitalis:And America also built on its own.... so what does that prove.... nothing. That they all came together to do it better, cheaper and more efficiently does not belittle any. I will also hint this to you for a fact. The reason they all agreed to work together was to allay fears amongst themselves about their individual intentions in space. And I think the move has done a good job so far in preventing the militarization of space and in keeping nuclear arms away from the heavens. They can both go alone. America is doing far, far more research and exploration with its allies outside the ISS whereas Russia has next to nothing outside that floating hotel. |
Athemisia:Oga. A rocket engine is generally a collection of rocket motors and fire crackers (boosters). The most powerful was the Russian RD170 closely followed by the American F1. When you put the motors together in whatever configuration and throw in a couple of boosters they are called a rocket engine. The space shuttle is a classic example. Right now the most powerful rocket engine is Elon Musk's Falcon Heavy which comprises of 3 No. Falcon 9 engines and two boosters..... which he says he can increase for missions into deep space. |
ariesbull:I have been telling folks like you what to do to move Nigeria forward. Don't you read my posts on everything that makes for decent life and living in Nigeria. I am science based and do my part in my labs and workshop within the constraints of a nation that does not want to move forward. Read my posts on Nigeria and know my opinions over nearly a decade on this forum. I dislike and will never associate with failure. |
mrvitalis:The only reason they partnered internationally was cost, not technology. It is called 'International' because the benefits are supposed to be for all mankind. The ISS is not the most complicated hardware in space right now. There are far more technologically advanced satellites in space launched by NASA and NASA/ESA.... Hubble, Kepler, Mars Explorer series.... America does not need Russia for anything. Now that Falcon has successfully docked with the ISS to deliver supplies and after a successful crew launch exercise, ROSCOM will not see Americans ever again. The only reason they ever went there was the retirement of the Space Shuttle fleet and the political dillydallying that made no room for a replacement over the years. Now they've seen the private sector is more efficient, its game on once again. |
Athemisia:If you say the most powerful rocket motor I will agree. But the most powerful rocket engines, the top 3 are all American: Falcon Heavy, Delta Four and the famous Space shuttle. The Russian Energia system that is also famous for ferrying most of ISS components to build the station and astronauts when the Space shuttle fleet was retired comes in fourth and in fifth is another famous but retired American workhorse, the indefatigable Saturn V that put man on the moon for the first time and in the process set an unbeatable record for space payload of 77 tons, unmatched till today..... well except that Musk intends to strap two more Falcon 9 boosters making the possibility of a Mars trip all the more a reality. Abeg Russia is nowhere in sight. If not for the US Judiciary, both Boeing and Blue Origin too will be shooting for the heavens. |
mrvitalis:Haba Oga, have you heard of Skylab in the early 70's. C'mon. A country that has gone to the moon 6 times (no other nation can and no other nation will in our lifetime) A country that has 1,300 out of the 2,500 satellites in space with Elon Musk pumping more into the heavens at will. The country that has sent 12 probes to Mars, the only country to have sent probes to all the planets in the solar system including two to the Sun and with their partners in the ESA I can go on and on and on. Oga. As far as space is concerned Russia cannot hold a candle where America is today. They were ahead in the 50's, but as soon as Kennedy lit the torch with his famous speech in 1962 America has disappeared over the hill and gone far, far away. Russia today are just the water carriers for more serious countries seeking space exploration and science advancement. All their key scientists are in the West. |
samuelgodson:The cost of his launches has come down to almost rival that of ROSCOM the last time I checked. And moreover he remains the payload champion with Falcon Heavy. Russia has nothing to match that. America just beat the buzzer on space resource self sufficiency. |
What is the meaning of. 'do the needful'.... A person committed an offense of such grievous nature and you contact him on social media for what... an out of court settlement.... ![]() Wisdom doesn't tell you that your case can be in serious jeopardy at the hands of a half decent defense lawyer. |
Story doesn't add up. The file photo shows the man clearly dead on the ground, bare earth, not at the hospital. The shoe marks on the ground are clearly made by combat boots meaning he was surrounded by uniformed men who could easily have confirmed the death by searching for a pulse. No need to garnish it by involving 'doctors and hospitals". When a man is dead on the ground you call a coroner. |
jmoore:Building refineries are not like buying a concrete mixer, It takes time. The petroleum sector has been largely on the exclusive list for decades. It was only recently that licenses were made available and even then there was no legislative backing for private ownership till even more recently and it was only in the last year that NNPC's monopoly via the PIA was broken. But without the removal of subsidies there is still not marketplace for refined products in Nigeria. So the long road to private participation is the cause why more people have not ventured. The truth is that until subsidies go, there are no guarantees any investment will succeed. No one gambles with 15 billion.... except Dangote of course. |
Jonegonu:They used to have as much as three or four stations. The Odili regime did a bit in trying to IPP. You can imagine if this legislation existed then, how much development will have amassed since. Honestly, poor structure has kept this country in the dustbin for decades. |
Parachoko:I was in Portharcourt a while ago and the establishment I visited was considering migrating from the State grid to the Federal Grid which was more stable in that location. I did see two distinct 33kv lines passing overhead. Didn't quite understand how that worked out in this present power regime. Riverians should enlighten us about this. |
Bullman:Good commentary.... but Please, please, please, do nothing to scratch the image of Nigeria. I always have this uneasy feeling about Nigerians travelling, relocating... especially these recent years... |
qekng40:So what is the best candidate is your opinion. What qualities does the person possess. What demonstrable experiences does he/she have in politics and governance, And most importantly what are the solutions such a person has postulated to the challenges of our time... |
gidgiddy:Exactly. No only good men, for no man is good. Politics does not require good men, but competent, capable and intellectually sound men. Obi has proven that in Anambra in the past and his views ever since have remain consistent on what the big problems of our time are pertaining to Nigeria. Unfortunately the structure of this country guarantees that competence and capability will never ascend to power. That sentiment and affirmative action will continue to rule so mediocrity will be our only experience going forward. It also means for people like us getting a PVC is a thorough waste of time thoughtless of participating in elections where it is Hobson's choice time and again, a straight shootout between bad and worse. Restructuring is the software that Nigeria's democracy needs to function properly. |
Shegzdave:Hahaha.... this is Nigeria's Washington DC.... so we enjoy certain peculiarities. Endless traffic whenever Mr. President is headed for the airport.... and even bus terminal (last week). Sirens, more sirens and mindless road rage by so called VIP's... And of course Protests... by every one from hungry activists and enraged Legislative Aides to the Association of Tailors and Seamstresses protesting against epileptic power supply.... e no dey finish. One day, one wahala. |
pharmaking:Hmmm.... when you think you have heard it all and hit the bottom. |
Serves them right. They thought endSARS was to destroy them not knowing it was to deliver them from themselves. To establish professionalism. What a pity. Lovers of the status quo, how far? |
dacblogger:If the plantain is boiled, not fried or roasted. Beans and plantain is perhaps the only meal you can eat all the days of your life and will do no damage whatsoever to your body. The best meal in this part of the world. |
solacong:That is the key. States like Rivers and Bayelsa and even Lagos for a short while had commissioned power plants, but without the ability to translate them into viable businesses all folded up. |
Is it only to generate? Without distribution, what is the point. What is the point of a farm when you cannot get to the market. |
Before it gets to that, agreements will be torn up and he will be assassinated. Simple. All this noise is just for nothing. Let him try. |
Nice. |
Anyone who supports Putin's aggression should kindly support Cameroon, after all they are just trying to buffer a potential threat from a bigger neighbour.... And no one should talk if they did not condemn aggression against Palestine, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan.... etc. Let everyone shut up and watch. |
A true icon. A multi talented man and one of the founders of the motivational industry in Nigeria. Will be sadly missed. |
Nice. |
Hmmm.... things have taken a very dangerous turn. The West should resist being sucked in feet first. |
Wow. Been a long, long time. Sad loss. One of the few Nigerian actors I actually did watch. |
real777:Hmmm.... when Elon Musks's satellites are not crashing into one another or tumbling out of the heavens and burning up over the Atlantic.... ![]() |
No one will play them. No one will host them. No one will sponsor them. What is the point. It was the ONLY decision that could be taken. Just as Apartheid South Africa was banned, just as Nazi Germany was banned, sports and politics can mix. |
There is a non written agreement in international relations that Heads of State are not targeted by their opposite numbers for assassination. Russia should not open a pandoras box. |
janedonez:No one will play them so what do you do. And if allowed these tournaments will become political with protests happening at stadia everywhere Russia features. It will be a mess. Then sponsors will start pulling out.... It is appropriate they are suspended. There is something about this incident that has really angered the world, particularly the west in unprecedented ways no one could foretell. But there is a precedent for suspending belligerent nations. Nazi Germany was similarly ostracized after war broke out. The 1936 Olympics they hosted was curtains for them till after the war ended. Apartheid South Africa was also kicked out of sports for years until they yielded to democracy. Once the IOC decides your fate, that is the end in most sports. A few will continue due to legal obligations but most will just shut their doors. No one wants trouble. |
