Hmmm..... another location for comparison. Lagos has another ally in the race to become the most flooded city 2021. |
Hmmm.... I will indeed take my pet Croc anytime I'm going out alone... ![]() |
skywalker240:The key to success and I must share this secret with you which is uncommon but which should be adopted at all levels including government is to move investment off shore where there is stability and potential foreign exchange earnings. Do your hustle or whatever you call it but invest a portion of your earnings abroad till this economy stabilises (that is, inflation returns to a single digit) and productivity levels rise once more. Then the cost of living then begins to fall in your case. |
Temptee101:Cracked me up a bit... ...hmmm....but ultimately I do not think so. We operate a democracy. People do not put themselves in power. Mr. Buhari did not force his way there and he is on a clock. If you go down this route, four years from now you will still be blaming Mr. Buhari the way folks were blaming GEJ till very recently when their throats ran dry.In a democracy it is impossible for a single individual to change the course of a country unilaterally. It doesn't work that way. |
ProJectAnatot:Elections have consequences. That's all. Every other thing has been discussed exhaustively on this forum if you have been reading objectively and dispassionately. |
Could remember when a certain Lauretta Onochie used to be the prized bull of the powers that be in the China shop of social media. Today even they are not able to tether her to any pastures green. These people are certainly not emotionally intelligent enough to understand that in politics you donot burn your candles at both ends. In a clime where power and its personalities ebb and flow like the flood water in a dirty drain, it is best not to clog up your chances of getting out of the power equation clean. The people who he works for do not zero sum. |
Skynet45:Oga, the F-35 was never designed to be a dog fighter. Modern doctrine of air combat has ended the days of dog fights. The power of modern engines, the power of modern radars, the power of modern munitions has ensured planes NEVER get within visual range before the fight is over. That is why stealth is the new cutting edge of technology. And the doctrine says, "I will kill you before you are aware I am around and kill you before you can touch me." The days of superior, highly manoeuvrable air frames for dogfights is OVER.... except in third world air battles like the recent skirmish between India and Pakistan. The F-35 has the most powerful radar presently in all air superiority platforms and its long range AA will ensure nothing comes near it within 120 miles. That aircraft can track and attack multiple targets simultaneously and integrate the systems of other platforms such as the F22 to wolf pack. In all simulations to date nothing can match up to it. |
What I like about this man's model of development is the 'bricks and mortar', direct labour system he adopts. There is no doubt he has been able to stretch his resources by ignoring big name multinationals and blue chip engineering firms with their pricey bills resulting from a tendency to capital flight. This is a model the Federal government and governors of Niger-Delta states particularly should study. How to get optimise their infrastructural budgets. I am sure if a peer review is done it will be found out that the cost of Governor Wike's half a dozen or so 'flyovers' will exceed that of an almost double number built in Ebonyi. Those in Ebonyi may not look too nifty and do not carry a big 'badge' but they are functional which should be the way poorer nations begin their development. The next governor after Umahi will have a solid platform of competencies within that state to really accelerate development if he or she is interested. How I wish this was the model with which our airports, seaports, rail lines and power infrastructure was handled. No frills. Just silently, efficiently and without leaving huge financial potholes behind. |
Forty years on lightning strikes again. Indeed elections have consequences. Enjoy. |
Hmmm... I know how he was caught... he couldn't handle the octopus at the seafood restaurant.... that's how.... ![]() Next time.... before attempting to camouflage... learn how to handle the damn octopus... ![]() |
olugabbie:Because they have a Treaty. They are obliged to defend Japan. The average American understands what treaties are about. Treaties have kept America safe since the Second World War and ensured nations like Japan and Germany did not re arm. Germany and Japan have not lost their abilities to become military super powers just because they were defeated in 1945. No one wanted the mistakes of the Treaty of Versailes which were largely punitive and led in no small part to the Second World war. This time there was more carrot and very little stick to the vanquished. And the big carrot in Europe was NATO and in Asia was a comprehensive defence pact with Japan. That Uncle Sam will come running if a bully packs into the neigbourhood. |
emperorshaokahn:The US had no agreement with Ukraine for many reasons amongst which is Ukraine is not a working democracy and are not willing to join NATO. Though they may be an attractive suitor on the fringes of Russia but they are nothing like the west. Taiwan is a different matter. They go way back with the US and have been strategic allies for decades. The only way China is getting Taiwan is through negotiations which the US can accept and mediate in but will not force Taiwan to undertake. China cannot take Taiwan by force of arms. |
dermmy:Then that threat will be counter productive because Japan doesn't have a standing deterrent against China so it will have to invite a full scale US deployment in that case complete with nuclear strike capability. The Cold War of the last century has taught the world threats simply do not work. The nuclear game is zero sum. No one wins. So what is their point in seeking to annex a country that will be turned to ashes and uninhabitable for generations should war break out. The Taiwanese do not want colonization, simple. If the Chinese want to end the world because of that, so be it. |
Xscape1993:Simple: 'Elections have consequences...' What better answer can there be. |
Good gesture in a present clime of sectional distrust. Love conquers all. |
Just as the controversial arguments surrounding the late founder of the 'Synagogue' Church, TB Joshua, I think folks are beginning to ask serious questions about 'Origins'... the spring of these grand people, places and events, not just content with the veneer before approving or otherwise. I think it is a useful evolution of society. Interesting times we live in.... ![]() |
Reads like a B movie script. Glad he survived. We aren't winning this war are we.. ![]() Just bleeding good men and priceless equipment. We badly need new strategies.... |
Sounds familiar. When the season starts all we will be hearing about birthday parties mishaps. |
AjanleKoko:And you too. Are you still alive ... kidnapped or forced into exile by the barbarian invasion.... ![]() |
pacespot:Only industrialization can do that. The Federal government's vision and objectives is to get all of us to the farm. How many tubers of yam or chicken eggs are you going to sell to build a skyscraper. Let us be serious here. |
Am a bit indifferent to the whole thing. The husband was an autocrat and disrespectful of democratic norms and institutions and was propped up by violence and non state actors. So.....in a way they had it coming. Lesson to all. When in power, just do the right thing and leave in peace when your time is up without looking back. |
i know of this place. Sad. |
ablejesus26:He will have the time when the time is right. The principal he is eye servicing is first to every national benefit from appointments to rail lines, gas lines, colleges to ranches. His own is to beef the people he is supposed to represent. Where will he retire to and what will be his legacy there. |
Now you and other like-minded folks will realise that all politics is local and after all said and done when you retire you need a home to return to. The opinions of your people matter. It matters to the appointees and representatives of peoples of other regions that carry their agendas to the highest levels and are first champions of their regions before the nation as we have seen all too well these past 6 years. Keep on pretending that anyone will love your people more than you are prepared to yourself. |
A 'Hold my Beer' moment... ![]() |
Dalil8:Super league things. He has soldiered on. Both Real and Barcelona have not formally renounced their intentions and Ceferin is at sea, incensed like a double crossed pirate and will have them walk the plank at the various boards..... (pun intended).Soccer is a very dirty game off the field. |
...German or British type of flood.... the global warming that affects only Lagos... |
...or you just wanna roll with the power bloc so that the sunshine of amnesty from trial can smile on you. ... a dirty engine cannot produce power. ... if real change is desired, fidelity only must be empowered. ... if not institutions and those who run them will be filled with 'traders' ... using our earnest desires as political capital to feather their own nests. |
.... Indeed, elections have consequences.... |
What is all this nonsense. Everyone knows the difficulty surrounding industrial investment. Everyone knows the high cost of doing business in Nigeria. Everyone knows the challenges around getting sensible credit in this country. There is a refinery emerging and it will succeed at the end because the man has a track record of developing and sustaining industrial investment. If a venture industrialist has tough challenges setting up shop it is rather an indictment of this country and its failed structures not him and it is a stern warning that the much needed economic development we earnestly seek will not happen if we cannot make the pastures green particularly for foreign investment who will be looking at Dangote's successes or failures as a barometer to their decisions about Nigeria. Countries that earnestly seek investment bend over backwards with all sorts of economic stimuli from tax breaks, subsidies and lean credit to ensure it happens. It is not new. It is only new to those who want total state control of our economy to promote their age old rent seeking nature that cannot see through this and see this through. They should let this man and his refinery be abeg. |
So which type of flood is this; UK type or German type or US type... according to the league of 'comparators'. |
Saao:Sister, not wife. |
